We drove two hours just to eat here and were really hoping to love it. Unfortunately that was not the case. It's a large restaurant with various rooms for seating and you seat yourself. There were only a couple diners inside but we were overlooked and not served for a while. Our waitress was nice and fairly attentive. The color scheme and decor inside made it very dark and dreary. The menus could use a makeover and good cleaning (as mine had hair in it). We ordered water to drink and it had a horrible taste to it. I stopped drinking it after two drinks. We ordered the chicken nachos as an appetizer. An employee (not our waitress) brought it to the table with 3 small plates. The top plate had grease/food smeared across it. I told the employee and she stated she stuck her hand in our food (then proceeded to wipe her hand down he clothes) and stated it was probably from the chicken on our plate. The chips were completely stale, the chicken tasted like it had been reheated, and there were next to no toppings on the chips. We ordered the catfish platter since they self proclaim it to be award winning, country fried chicken, onion rings, fries, sweet potato fries, hash-brown casserole, and tossed salad. The catfish was a good portion but under seasoned. The country fried chicken was ok, but it was slightly overcooked and really thick. The white gravy was ok. The fries and hash-brown casserole were also under seasoned and the sweet potato fries were overcooked. The onion rings were "run of the mill." The tossed salad had huge slices of tomatoes and the lettuce core so we had to pick through it. The hushpuppies were dense and the tartar sauce was heavy on the pickle juice. Despite the disappointing meal, we still decided to order one slice of chocolate pie. The meringue really was "sky high" and tasted pretty good. The chocolate was heavy on the coco and a bit gritty. Tried a new place close to home, cute interior similar to ramseys and very homey. I'm very picky with places because I have high expectations. It has to be full of flavor and a good portion. We got great portions at a great price. $13 for a sirloin (not pictured) with two sides, Ribeye $19 with two sides, Alfredo $12 with Chicken $14 huge portion, open faced roast beef with one side, also a huge portion. I even asked if the Alfredo sauce was watery before ordering and took a chance just because I didn't want a sandwich or steak. It did not disappoint! My husband got the open faced roast beef. I geuss the owner's thought it would be great to start an awards club for breakfast and call it " powered by toast". They doubled the price of sausage biscuits as they were 2 for $4 , but they charged my friend $4 each. A bit much for a store bought biscuit and a frozen little patty. The real kicker is I started ordering BLT's for breakfast as they "toast " was right. Then after a couple of weeks they served me what looked like a good looking sandwich, then the owner stood back and watched as I took a bite. The "inside" toast was burnt totally black. They ( owner and cook, I think) watched and waited until I took that first bite and complained about the charcoal they served. Then they took my sandwich back to the kitchen and moved the bacon, lettuce and tomato onto the warm buttered bread they usually serve. My understanding is that you could't take food back to the kitchen after it had been served. Weak watered down coffee, no spoons, and they also decided to block off our regular seating area the last few times we went. No more. They lost a group of regulars and received another negative review, my last about this restaurant that wants to be a bar or something. The morning cook and the owner are just a couple of bullies. The broccoli was well seasoned, as were the brussel sprouts, although a bit salty. The sweet potato fries are a home run!! And the potatoes are beautifully textured made of real potatoes. I in no way liked the buttermilk pie. I can't understand why this sugar bowl would be enjoyable, but the waitress said it was her favourite so people do like it. Not for me. The club sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had!! Being from Michigan, you don't see corn pudding often, so I had to get it (even though it didn't go with my dinner haha) and it was great. This was an excellent place! I wasn't expecting to find such a good breakfast place with room to spare on a Sunday morning. Service was excellent and friendly. We really appreciate it when the wait staff are friendly to us even though our large numbers probably seemed intimidating anyway I thoroughly enjoyed the big man breakfast. I had eggs, bacon, a slice of pork, biscuits and gravy, and toast. It was all very excellent! Great flavors all around. This is our 1st trip here with new owners. The station has a smaller menu than the main restaurant. Buts a great place to watch a ball game. We got a day off finally and decided to give this 40 mile trip a shot. We rode our bike to Biancke's for lunch. Friday. Place is crowded but clean. Definitely a lot of locals eat here. Staff was very friendly, helpful with answers and recommendations. Wife had the cold plate which had turkey, Swiss cheese, cottage cheese, peaches, cucumbers, tomatoes and chicken salad. She says it's very fresh and taste great. I had the catfish sandwich that waitress recommended as well as the house chips. The chips were great, the fish didn't have a fishy flavor and was good. However, it had a soggy inside, maybe result of slightly undercooked maybe. The size of this catfish is HUGE. Sticks over each side of the bun by 3-4". Must be 10" overall. This is a fantastic family owned restaurant that's been around forever in Cynthiana. They have a pretty big variety of things on their menu and some of the best pies on the planet. We started with an appetizer of Chicken Nachos for the table. It was a bed of tortilla chips topped with chunks of chicken, cheese, tomatoes, peppers, and onions. Really great flavours and plenty to go around so that was a rousing success. For my main course I got the Beer Cheese Burger. It was a half pound burger topped with homemade beer cheese, and bacon served on a grilled bu. The sandwich would normally also have lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and mayo but I left them off and got extra beer cheese because that's what I was really excited about. It was a super tasty version of beer cheese and had really bold flavour. They really let the beer flavour shine and with a perfectly cooked burger and bacon it was soooooo good. The plate came with fries which I got an extra side of beer cheese to dip the fries in. Trust me you want to try this. For dessert I got a piece of one of their famous pies. I went with butterscotch meringue and boy it was sugary bliss. This restaurant is worth going very far out of your way for to try both their pie as well as their dinner options. Friday night, 75% empty! Service was Poor! One of us ordered Onion Ring appetizer, it didn't show up and the food was delivered. When asked, the lady went back, came back and said it'd be out in a few. Later, no appetizer, she said the kitchen was backed up with all the fried appetizers, she'd ask again. I all you can eat fried catfish, made it through the frier on time! Well, dinner about done, onion rings show up! Waitress Never asked if a reorder of all you can eat fish needed more! Biancke's has amazing pie. I'll start with that. This is where I'll order homemade pies in town. Also, when my husband and I came here earlier in the spring for a nice dinner together, we were impressed with Biancke's: delicious food (amazing fried pickles!) at reasonable prices within a quaint, historical restaurant. Come as you are or dress up a bit. Fast forward to December, our next visit: We wanted to eat quickly in town before Cynthiana's tree lighting ceremony and this was the only place open. Well, because of that, it was packed. When we walked in, there was one large table in front available. My husband and I tentatively sat at the table. Five minutes later someone came by to take our drink orders and inform us she was looking for menus. Our drinks came but no menus. After another five minutes, more people trickled into the restaurant. My husband and I took survey of our lack of time left before the lighting, the yet-to-come menus and spacious table.... decided to leave, and gave our table to a large group that came in. We went to pay for our drinks and they told us not to worry about it. I felt so bad leaving but we were short on time and they were clearly understaffed for the night. (We got food from the BBQ food truck down the street.) We returned an hour and a half later with some friends who had yet to eat, thinking it would be better now that the crowd dissipated. There were a few more empty tables, but we were brought to one in the back room. And then... We were forgotten. Ok, not really, but it sure felt like it. We waited awhile for menus and drinks; other tables in the same area waited a long time too. The lone waitress didn't ever come by. By the time we all got our meals, we were so tired of waiting that we were ready to go. We are fast. The fried pickles were tasteless. I couldn't bear to eat them. Soooo disappointed. Everyone else enjoyed their food but was eager to leave. We gobbled it up, and hastily paid before dashing out the door. I don't know... We must've been there on a bad, busy night. I got a Buffalo chicken wrap with fries and it was delicious. I will say, it fell a part fairly easy and could have used more chicken, but regardless it was good. I use to live in Cynthiana, KY many years ago and enjoyed this restaurant on a regular basis. I know stop in from time to time and enjoy a great home cooked meals at a very reasonable prices. I would also recommend you try their homemade pies. They also have rooms to serve large groups and banquets. Take some time to look at the pictures in the walls of Cynthiana History. You will notice old school buildings, graduating senior pictures from early 1900's, covered bridges, old court houses, floods etc. This is a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal. Cynthiana is also a very charming community. A little Biancke History The Biancke saga in Kentucky came to a beginning in 1890 when Guido Biancke took passage from Italy for America. He left his home in Lucca, northwestern Italy, and came to Richmond, Kentucky, where his brother-in-law, Joe Guinchigliani, Sr., operated a restaurant, fruit and vegetable business. After two years' apprenticeship, he left his brother-in-law to return to Lucca to claim his childhood sweetheart, Clementina Poppini, in marriage. They returned to Richmond and soon afterward branched out on their own, opening a combination restaurant and fruit stand on Pike Street, in Cynthiana, in 1894. Their first child, Amelia Whitaker, was born in Richmond in 1894 and her brother, Joseph D., was born in Cynthiana on January 29, 1896. In the time that has ensued from 1890 to...[1970]..., "Biancke's" has come to be a family word in Harrison County. Clementina Biancke was quite a character. She stayed in her business, literally never leaving the store. Although it was only a block away, some say "Miss Tina" didn't see the court house until they moved from the Pike Street store to their present site on Main Street which they bought from Randall Kerrick, April 5, 1930. read more
