10/10!! This was an amazing first experience! All of the staff at High Country Adventures are knowledgeable, passionate and caring for all customers. Greg D. Was the BEST guide I could've asked for! He has 37 years of experience which made my very comfortable for my first time white water rafting. Andrew (I believe) the safely instructor was fun and engaging as well!

Primitive campsites at High Country Adventures are awesome!

Absolutely the BEST outfitters on the Ocoee! We camped Saturday night on an incredibly spacious primitive campsite. There were lots of campers around us, but no one was close. Bathhouse could use some updates, but it was still fine. The real highlight was the white water rafting. We had so much fun, and Benji, our guide, was a hoot! So entertaining, so knowledgeable, and so skilled at navigating the River. We will absolutely be back and plan on telling all of our friends to visit!

This is was my first time going whitewater rafting with this company; High Country Adventures. On a beautiful late fall day, we [my friends then with my coworkers] did the three-hour adventure with guide Corey D. then with Gabe. As you arrive at High Country Adventures, I would say that the place is quite easy to find, and the employees were friendly and informative. They made sure we knew what to do in the water before we went in. As we were traveling down the water, both guides warned us before all the crazy rapids. We were well prepared, those that were in the group and have never gone whitewater rafting felt safe. No one came out of our tube! The river has between class 3-5 rapids which seems intimidating but wasn't too frightening. We even got a chance to swim in the river in a calm stretch. When we got back to the building after the trip, our guides directed us to where they sanitized all the paddles, helmets and life jackets. It was organized and well run. All in all, an excellent experience, if you have never done it, try it with these guys! You will have a phenomenal experience. You might get hooked like I was! To the point I came back again with my coworkers.

BOOK IT NOW! This place was awesome!! Easy to find, super friendly staff, well organized and we never felt unsafe! Even the bus ride was full of fun!! Amazing! Check in was quick and easy. The instructor in the begining was fun as she gave us insightful directions for our safety. Parking was sufficient. Bathroom stalls were tiny! The bus was crowded, not socially distanced. So bring your mask. Marshall was playing great sing along, energetic tunes. Our guide, WILSON aka Sunshine, was excellent and very patient with us. Rafting requires group coordination and the ability to follow instructions. Let's just say some people have a harder time than others. Wilson was nice, great energy, very personable, knowledgeable, and strong enough to pull the raft and us out of the water. My son and I flipped out of the boat. Wilson didn't sweat it. In a calm, caring voice he instructed the crew how to get us back in and he pull me in with ease. What a great lifesaver! Oh, and guess what, he has pretty good singing vocals :) We had a great time rowing downstream. Pics are expensive especially since they don't print them. You babe to download whatsapp to receive them.

Today I had anxiety because it was my first time rafting!! From the moment I stepped onto the property it was welcoming!! From the people in the gift shop to the guides everyone was amazing. I need to send a big shout out to Wilson our guide. Wilson was patient and very helpful with directing us and making sure we were safe. Wilson is an amazing guide and I'm so glad we picked him for this experience. He was very personable and told us so much information about our journey. We came through a wave and loss two of our members but Wilson was fast to act and got them back on the raft safely. Needless to say after being on this journey with Wilson I want to come back and do rafting over and over again. Only bad part was no Social Distance on the bus!! There should have been two busses... also the ladies room is way to small.. Thank you Wilson you are fabulous. I hope you do great things with that History Degree.

From the purchasing of tickets to the reservations to the river trip to the end at the store this day trip was awesome. First of all when I called for reservations they were booked the weekend we wanted and it was our son's 12th birthday so I was bummed but booked for the following weekend. Well less than an hour letter the sweet Payton whom I had booked our trip with called me back to report a cancellation and said she thought of me and asked if I wanted that spot. I of course took that time slot and was thankful and impressed she had recalled our discussion and took action to improve our trip. Oh and read the fine print, there is a $4 per person raft fee plainly stated when you purchase your tickets. The drive was beautiful from our home 29 miles north of downtown Atlanta and per our GPS is an hour and a half, less than most of Atlanta's daily work commute. This part of Tennessee is rural and beautiful. We arrived at 7:30 am as instructed, 30 minutes prior to our 8 am reservation. We had received an email confirmation stating this as well. We attended a safety session and basics with the 8 am guests and the guide who led the safety meeting was Gavin. He was funny and great at instructing the entire group. From there our groups were paired off in boats and we set off to receive equipment and board the bus. The bus ride was not too long and we put in near the dam. Right away you hit whitewater action. It was a beautiful day with crisp air, sunny skies and a cool breeze. The water is cold and refreshing. Gavin wound up being our guide and he was professional, helpful, fun, provided information about rocks and names of rapids etc. He was so great. We loved having him lead our boat! He us exactly what you imagine when you envision someone passionate about the river, the outdoors and their job. Back at the outpost we grabbed our keys from the clerk, hit the bathhouse for a change into dry clothes. Then you have fun watching your photos on the screens. The shop has everything from stickers to t-shirts, water shoes, croakies, coffee cups, picture frames, etc. Photos are so great you can't choose just one. Don't forget to tip your guide! Or be like us and put Gavin's name on the envelope and not put hey this $10 bucks is from us lol. This is a great day of adventure and family fun. Ask for Gavin and have fun!

There were 23 healthcare workers in our group looking to have a lot of fun and to decompress from the craziness of our world! High Country did not disappoint! We were in 4 rafts with a guide in each raft. The guides kept us fairly close to each other and stopped and re-grouped us occasionally that allowed us to still interact and have fun with our Team! Hannah was the amazing guide on our raft! She was very informative, light hearted, thrill seeking, and kept us all safe. The other 3 guides ensured that all of our group had an amazing time! Launch and take out sites are low energy and stress. Highly recommend! read more

Our family rafted the Middle Ocoee this weekend. Our tour guide was Angie. She was great . She was very knowledgeable about the river and the rocks . She really seems to like her job . She pointed out past fire damage on the mountain ridge and also did safety watch for the other boats in our group. She was concerned with safety, but gave us options for an exciting whitewater rafting experience. She kept us entertained and even told us some good jokes. I went here for my birthday a week ago and had a blast. We had a group of 6 and the weather was cloudy with a light drizzle and we still had a great time. A group of us took a rafting trip over the weekend. I had purchased it on Groupon a month or so earlier. High Country was very communicative and provided good information that prepared us well. Unfortunately, our experience on the river did not match it. The 1st problem occurred when another raft in the group got stuck upriver and we were forced to wait for about 45 minutes while the problem was identified. We had no idea what was going on. We just sat in the raft on the riverbank. We had to rush down river afterwards missing some of the experience because there was another trip scheduled that needed our rafts and guides. The 2nd problem occurred when a member of our party was hit in the face with the guide's paddle. It caused a cheekbone fracture. While the guide did everything in their power to help, there was no way to communicate with anyone to get her off the river for treatment. She had to complete the trip and ride the bus back to the checkin point. read more

I have been rafting on the Middle Ocoee twice now, most recently with High Country Adventures. I had a really great experience with them that was definitely comparable to the other rafting outfitters in the area. While white water rafting could be a terrifying experience, they are really good at making you feel prepared for the trip and walking you through what to do in situations on the river. After about a 15 minute tutorial you will get a life vest, helmet, and paddle, and board an old school bus. There is then about a 30 minute drive on the bus to the river. Our rafting guide "Wolf Pack" was phenomenal. She was really knowledgeable about the river and made sure that our boat was safe and had a blast during the trip. For those rafting or doing other High Country Adventures, there are campgrounds on the property. We camped for 2 nights with a group of 12 and had a really pleasant experience. The rates were reasonable, the bathrooms were clean (and even included hot water!!), and our camp site had a picnic table and fire pit. I definitely recommend the rafting and camping experience at High Country!! I will be back! read more

My family and I went to High Country on my 19th birthday. Our instructor's name was Sara and she was the team leader. At first, we were super nervous because she TOTALLY DID NOT need our help to carry that giant boat down to the lake. As soon as we started rowing, she was so fun to be with. We laughed and screamed the whole ride and the birthday girl (me) even got a special 'fishie' makeup treatment. For anybody that wants to go whitewater rafting, this company is amazing. I had the most amazing time last here weekend! We were invited by our friends from Atlanta, we drove up from Chattanooga! The weather was perfect! On the bus ride there we had a small chat with LJ not knowing that he would turn out to be our boat guide, and let me tell you, he was the most amazing guide we could have ever asked for! Super entertaining, super knowledgeable, super fun! His spirit made our trip even that more exciting! We all plan on coming back and plan on booking the one and only, LJ! This was my first time white water rafting & I had a BLAST!!! Our raft guide Bandy made the trip down the river the best, so much so that when I come back I will make sure he is our guide again. They make sure you are well protected with a helmet & vest, we had one person fall in but it was funny & we made sure to get him back in. Great time here. read more

The employees here was super friendly and knowledgeable. The journey began with the signing of the waiver, a safety debrief, then you're off to get the equipment, and finally the bus ride to the starting location. Our particular guide pointed out cool facts and knew tricks on how to gain momentum for a more fun ride. The rafting was fun, and the duration was just right. There will be an area for swimming so brace yourself. Parking was pretty plentiful. Remember to look for the Groupon deals since the bf's group chose this place for that sole reason. And don't forget to bring a change of clothes as the restrooms and changing facilities were nice, until a wooden stall with no light. read more

Today was our first time white water rafting and we chose to go with High country Adventures. We certainly not disappointed. From the lady at the check in counter, to the instructional people, to the bus driver everyone was so friendly. Once we got up to the put in we were matched with our guide, his name was Ethan. I can't say enough good things about Ethan. He was so nice and very informative on what to do and not to do. It was our whole groups first time. He kept the trip safe as possible and fun. Very Knowledgeable and and a good time. We will definitely be bringing more friends back and doing this again.There are changing rooms for after the ride to get out of your wet clothes. They have picture for sale at the front store and merchandise. read more

I took a group of 8 to high country adventures today. Our group got split between two guides: Henry & Dean. Both guides were exceptional and made the experience 10xs better. Dean was so knowledgeable and amazing all around. Henry was all around just a good time. If you're looking to go white water rafting, I highly recommend high country adventures but specifically dean as a guide. I never would have had such a good experience without him. read more

By far a very exciting and fun experience and our guide Potter was sooooooo fun I fell out and it thundered and was lightening but for me and my husband it was supperrrrrrrr fun and yes we will go again!!! We arrived later cause we were stuck in traffic. The hours online said they were open until 630, we arrived at 530. We drove along way to float the river and were so excited. As we approached the office the young lady was SO RUDE. I honestly couldn't believe it. She could have nicely delivered the same message that they were closed and had already sent the last group down. I tried to explain to her that somewhere I read they were open until 630. Which makes you think that they will let you float the river up until then. Especially cause it's light until 9. There was plenty of sun left in the canyon cause that did cross my mind as we arrived later. As I continued trying to defend why I thought it was open late, she looked me in The eye with the meanest look and said "yeah I get it". I can't even explain the meanest behind her look and walked into the office. There were two other adults around who just let it happen. We also have tattoos and thought that might be the issue. Either way, wow, I have never been treated so horribly. I am a business owner and would never treat anyone the way we were treated. I was definitely angered in the moment by this little snot. But we didnt let it ruin our evening. We continued on to Deer Creek where they had a fun family vibe. They had blow up stuff in the water for the kids, kind people who helped us out with our purchase and a lot less expensive and much safer per High Country's reviews. We were not disappointed and happy it worked out better. I still will tube a river and take my happy self to where I hear it's better Anyways to the Weber river, I should've listed to peoples recommendations. High Country, for being apart of Happy Valley you might want to find some happier employees. read more

High Country Adventures has been rafting on the Ocoee River since 1978. We offer trips on the Middle Ocoee with up to Class IV rapids - The Class III and IV rapids tumble down 269 feet during the course of the 5-mile ride, which continuously traverses such colorfully named stretches at Double Suck, Tablesaw, and Broken Nose. The rough-riding waters flow through steep, scenic gorges lined with pine forests before paddlers take on the last ferociously frothing waters at Hell Hole.For those feeling even more adventurous we offer full river trips that include Class V rapids and the Olympic Course from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. History

Established in 1975.

High Country Outfitters began in 1975, when four friends with tremendous passion for the outdoors, realized the need for a full service outdoor store in Atlanta. Gerald Marshall, Bubba Sloan, Denny Mays, and Ned Buxton founded High Country to be a place where you could experience adventure and learn from qualified instructors to paddle, climb, and travel through the backcountry with ease. Spencer was also an absolute blast to surf the river with... very friendly, knowledgable and well-traveled... he had plenty of amusing stories to share and kept us all very engaged. I should also mention that Spencer was also seriously great at gaging our comfort level vs. our spirit of adventure... therefore, he was able to navigate us down various paths of the river making it challenging and thrilling for us! While there are plenty of white water outfitters to pick from, we intentionally picked a smaller outfitter and we were so glad we did... we felt our experience was more personal, less generic, and seriously less crowded! I only wished I had sat in the front of the boat where the photographer was situated... that would have made a fantastic birthday photo. The only other "disappointment" was that Cascade Outdoors advertised about their HOT SHOWERS which was super important to us and was one of the main reasons we chose Cascade Outdoors... but there was NO hot water available and the lack of being able to take a good shower after the rafting trip did impede on our other plans. Other than that, Cascade Outdoors and our guide, Spencer, offered us a fabulously fun white water experience on the Ocoee River! We can't wait to return!!! :)

I was looking for somewhere beautiful to get a panorama of Chattanooga (+ more) from an awesome vantage point, and I found this spot on Google. It's a bit of a winding drive to eventually arrive to the site, and when you do, parking is extremely limited. It's either you got luck or God on your side, to park right where the "rock" is, but I was very fortunate. The steps are very large and irregular getting to the actual "site", and if you are not fit --- just go slow. However, once you arrive --- it's like heaven. A view from the heavens overseeing the Tennessee River Gorge, Prentice Cooper State Forest, and valleys. Spending 20-30 minutes after getting up their will clear your mind. A view that you should not pass up!

This trail was a bit more challenging than others we've done. For context, I enjoy long hikes on…read morerelatively flat, well-defined paths--l'm not a hardcore hiker. So, from my perspective, I'd rate this as a moderately difficult hike. The trail is about 3.5 miles round trip and took us around 2 hours, not including the time we spent enjoying the view at the top. The summit is absolutely worth the effort-the view is breathtaking. Be sure to bring plenty of water. Thankfully, the trail has lots of shade, which helped keep us cool and protected from the sun.

Earlier this past week. I decided to give the Ocoee a try for the first time. It was a bit unnerving at first being on a crazy river full of rapids, but our guide Charles was outstanding. I can honestly say, I want to go back as soon as possible. First of all High Country is a really classy company. The actual location is very inviting and well kept, yet still has that adventurous feel to it. We drove past a couple different businesses of the same kind before picking High country based on their yelp review and the way it looked from the road. The one next door seemed alright, but just did not look as inviting from the road despite having similar reviews. From a professionalism standpoint, this group of "guides" are unbelievable. Our guide had an impressive the knowledge of the area, river, different kinds of rapids, to what to do and what not to do. I know I have an office job, but seriously the entire time when we could catch a minute to actually stop laughing at his crazy stories and jokes, he was giving us all kinds of cool information about the experience. They just made me not feel like it was my first time, and had it not been for our quirky guide Charles, I am not sure how we would have felt. Not to say the other guides were stand up professionals, we just did not get to speak to any of them in length. His jokes are hilarious, not to mention all of the guides with this company have a really great team aspect. I felt like at no point was I ever in any danger, despite the fact we are rushing through and getting pounded by water going through certain areas. I wish I could have given him more in tips, we just didn't at all expect the kind of service our guide gave us. He claims it is his first year? We in the boat were in unanimous decision that could not possibly be true. All I can say is, if you are considering trying rafting, you really should not think twice about this company or guide. I can't speak for the others by name, but they were just an absolutely knock out group of guys and girls who exude what a white water experience should and could be even if your not am avid "paddler". Next time, I think we are going to camp and do the river 2 days back to back. Thank you High Country for helping facilitate such a great experience. 5 stars from top to bottom. If there was a 6th I would add that as well. Also, I cannot believe that a rafting company has such nice bathrooms. I am not sure if that is common place or not? GREAT all the way around! Not a big person on reviews unless it's stellar or horrible. And this one is no doubt stellar! The guides deserve the kudos and the company deserved the credit for hiring such. Booked the weekday special with my two sons (12 and 14) along with my oldest son's friend. Check-in day we took the sunset kayak on the lake with Fozzie and Sarah. Enjoyable and relaxing! Guides were fantastic and interacted with the kids well. Day 2 we took a caving trip to Petti John's cave guided by Corey and again had the privilege of spunky lil Sarah who maneuvered among the cave like Catwoman. The caving trip was more than I expected from them but just what I would have wanted; so I am looking forward to the next trip and perhaps more cave! And Day 3, of course was rafting. The kids were looking forward to being with either Fozzie or Sarah but their rafts had crew by time we exited the bus. So we met with Baker who was yet another fantastic guide! I would have been nice to have had Sarah been a guide for all three days but we wouldn't have had the joy of experiencing yet another superb guide. We stayed in one of the cabins on site and have no complaints other than the A/C units seemed to need an upgrade; they didn't cool the entire cabin well (it was summer time - July). Other than that, well outfitted for our stay. Quiet / Peaceful. Myself and the kids are looking forward to making it her next year! read more

High Country Adventures is a first-rate experience for white water rafting! The cabins are cozy and accommodated with furniture, kitchenware, and bedding. Unless you go out, you'll need to obviously bring whatever food you want to prepare there. We spent a Saturday night there, and rafted Sunday. Things you'll need to bring: Bug repellent Clothes that WILL get wet Sunscreen Toiletries Food to prepare in the cabin and snacks We had the pleasure of dealing with excellent customer service representatives that define the word HOSPITALITY. We felt like we were family, and that we already knew the people that we dealt with! We felt so comfortable. We didn't meet anyone who treated LESS than a dear friend and a much appreciated guest. On the river, it was so exciting! Our guide was so personable and sincere. We had Wolfpack! She's the coolest! She was easy to talk to, and never made us feel like we didn't know what we were doing, even though at times we didn't! Also, they have a great souvenir shop!!! Check it out! They have really cool hats and shirts and lots of other stuff to remember your time there! We are definitely going to make High County Adventures a yearly tradition for our crew! FANTASTIC!!!!! I have rafted with many companies -- with this one the last four times! I will never use another company! The owner and assistant are so professional, yet personable -- and so accommodating! We went with a large group and stayed in the cabins. (If you have a large group, you can rent two sides of the cabin and open the optional adjoining door!) The cabins are perfect, the guides are fabulous, and the staff is helpful. The guides at High Country are very well trained, helpful, and so much fun!! Our group had a blast! High Country also gives great instruction to the rafters prior to ever getting in the water!! Rafting Class 101! LOL Also, once you get in the river, they review what you learned on the ground just to make sure everyone knows what they are doing before heading down the river!! I highly recommend staying over night in the cabins and rafting with High Country Adventures!! Happy rowing!! read more

I had an amazing time at High Country! My youth group and I went up there and we had an absolute blast! Probably the best time we have ever had! It was so much fun being able to just chill and goof off at the cabin (which was very nice and clean by the way) and then we had SO much fun rafting the next day! It was great! Our guide, Frank "The Tank", was great! He was very well trained and knew so much about our surroundings and the river! He was so funny and made you feel so comfortable and safe! I knew I was in good hands! The rest of the staff would talk to you like you were a good friend and I felt so welcomed! The were very organized in the office and knew exactly what they were doing and where everything was! The views there were absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to go back! We bought a Groupon to go river rafting on the Middle Ocoee River and it was surprisingly an easy drive from Atlanta. Once arriving the environment was clean and working like a well oiled machine. We had Brooke as our river guide and she was amazing. The whole staff was full of energy. We saw a lot of other rafting companies when on the river and the High Country staff was well groomed in comparison and the boats were in great condition. Brooke was so knowledgeable of the river and its rapids. She told us the whole High Country staff goes through rigorous training to make sure they are the best out there. She definitely took care of us and made sure we not only had a blast but that we were all safe. We will definitely be back! read more

I was on alabama johns raft, and about halfway through we ran into someone else well all passengers including himself came out. WE KNOW THIS IS A POSSIBILITY. He reacted TERRIBLY to the situation. Instead of laughing it off as the rest of my crew did he threw a fit. The reason we came out is because we ran into another group. He went to a random girl wearing the same colors as the people we ran into. He yelled something about surfing, and then something about jack Daniels being expensive. His reaction was very uncalled for. Made a fool of himself in front of at least 50 people, and made the rest of my experience miserable. read more

Highly recommend High Country Adventures ! Their entire staff was full of life and ready to give you an adventure. We loved them so much we went back the next day for The 6hour day! My Buddy Adam and I took our boys to High Country this past weekend (5/30/15) and we had a great time. We were able to manuver the upper and middle sectiosn of the river without incident. I've been down the Ocoee a number of times, but this was my first trip with High Country Adventures. I found them to be well organized, friendly and well versed in how to run this river.
