Hello High Definition Solar was recommended by a friend that works in Solar manufacturing. that was in reality the real mistake. here is my feedback on a single call with HDS. I've received a call today from HDS, they started to explain me their processes and how they want to conduct their business. I tried to explain what I wanted. I already got in contact with multiple companies and got few estimates. My "ask" was simple. I want to buy a full 7K Solar system, no lease or else. I've explained to the lady I wanted all questions collected by Phone then they would be welcome to visit me with a organised proposal. Many other companies were fine with my plan. HDS was not a fun conversation, they were just pushing their method, we need to come visit and explain our business values, need 2 hours, etc etc. I could not place a word so I got tired of it, While the operations manager was still speaking I told her Bye and hangup, I was just done with them. Ultimately, I did not have any bad call experience with any other vendors, HDS did not really care to listen about my needs (The Customer), it was a pain from the start, I already have good estimates and will decide on my solar system very soon, I know it will not be HDS. My advice, be more flexible with new customers, you guys are rolling your method, it is exactly why people walk away. It felt people are at the office following a single old script. read more

I'm giving this company 1 star only because it doesn't let me rate 0. I've had 2 sales come over to my house. The first guy John was nice and patient, he explained everything and gave me a quote after, but the price was a way out of our pocket I told him I need couple of days to think about that. A week or so he called, I told him our electric bill is only around $50 per month, so it's not worth to spend 20k for solar. About one month later a rep called me trying to schedule a home consultation with me because of some what reason their price is dramatically dropped, so I made the mistake to agreed meeting their sales manager(or so) Steve. He spend 1.5 hrs to trying to convince me the pg&e will increase for the next year, also mention that I will be paying more electric just because I just moved in so the bill that I payed now should be double after months. After 1.5 hrs, I realized that if I don't interrupt, he would keep talking until I sign the contract, but I actually have other errands to run, so I told him that I appreciated his time, I would really think about it and if I ever want it I would call him back. Then he looked so pissed and started to insult me, I've never seen a sales person like him, he had the worst attitude ever. I don't understand why would a company hire someone like him, after reading yelp review I finally realized a company who has 9 out of 10 one star review, no wonder their customer services is terrible . Had solar panels put on my home in Daly City a few years back and recently added more solar panels this year. Although it took a bit longer to install than expected because of the pandemic, they gave me a small discount for having to wait. Ali worked with me on this and I appreciate his persistence to make sure I was a satisfied customer. read more

Looks like the reviews of this company greatly vary from person to person. My experience with them was great though. I've had my system for a couple of months so far so I cannot comment on the total amount saved per year. It is late spring so there is a good amount of sun and I can check it on our PG&E statement that it is producing enough power. (We will see how we do in the winter months). I got referred by a friend and I already had an open mind about solar so the sales part was relatively painless. There was a slight drop in the communication between the sales team and the inspection team on when I wanted the inspection to occur. I told the sales person the day I wanted the inspection to occur and on the day of the inspection I called the main office and they said they were not aware of my date. They quickly remedied the situation by sending someone out in the next hour, so my date of inspection requirement was still met. The inspection went well and I had panels up within ~2 weeks of my sales visit, which was a lot quicker than I expected the project to go. I really appreciated the visit after the fact to explain the system and how it all works with PG&E. Other than their slight hiccup for their internal communication I would say they were very accommodating on how I liked to communicate (text, email), and my crazy schedule. I'm happy with the service and the panels provided, I'll try to update this review in a year on my savings and how accurate the initial quote was. read more

I would not recommend them. Sales guy was here 2.5 hrs. What disappointed me is that most of the time was spent not on what is important (electrical condition of house, exact parameter of roof, performance of panels etc) but in scaring us into buying solar NOW. This was followed by numbers wizardry about how we will save a ton of money, followed by financing models. Notice the price of the system was not mentioned yet (almost 2 hrs in..). Then when I noticed the financing illustration was 3200/year for 25 YEARS, I knew something was wrong ($80,000???). They wanted for a 10 panel system (around 3.1kW, micro inverter based, certainly newer tech) - $29,000- Of course, 15% or so off if we decide TODAY. Classic door to door sales push- not worth it even if they are also a roofing company (not that the roofing comes at a great discount). Went to a very reputable local Berkeley solar company- same type of newer tech, 3.66kW system, for around $7000 less even after the "super" discount. Exact same warranty (10 years work, 25 year equipment). Whatever technology they install cannot possibly be worth it- once you go Enphase micro inverter based- the panels themselves will not make a ton of difference. Suspect bigger companies might be even cheaper (maybe tech and installation not as high end). Experience with local company was fantastic - technology and installation focussed. And it was the company owner - not a sales rep working on commission. read more

Had this solar system installed in 2016. Does it save me $$ on my energy bill with SMUD? HELL NO! It has only cost me more. The salesman grossly miscalculated our annual usage and undersold us on a pricey system. So now I get to pay more $$ for energy than I did before...the finance bill and the monthly SMUD bill. Trying to get these guys to resolve the problem is a job within itself. No call backs, constant chasing them down, calling, emailing, sending website emails.. GAH! What they do is called FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICES.. If you are looking for solar don't go these folks.. RUN! Run to any other solar provider than this one. If I could give negative stars... I would. OH.. and don't call the main office.. the 'Director of Operations' Janae Greene is combative and uncaring. Had trouble getting them to the point of offering a bid. They were 45 minutes to the first appt. Consequently we rescheduled another when we had time to meet with them. We figured everyone is late now and then, it happens lets show a little grace. At the second one they would not meet with us because both my wife and I were not there. They did not tell us it was required, that both must be present. So two times we set aside 90 minutes in our schedule and no meeting. This "both must be present" is a classic"time share" high pressure technique to close people on the spot. Also, when they called to schedule attempt number three it was also high pressure on the phone to set a third attempt. So these three or four red flags made us pass on talking to them about a bid. Very competitive business and if this is the way they act before 30-40K job you can only expect it to go down when they have your signature on an agreement. Be cautious and trust the Yelp reviews and not the ratings on the sites that you can pay to have a high rating on with consumers. read more

we have used hi def twice in the last five years to install solar panels on a very high, delicate tile roof; it was an excellent choice both times; very high quality work, very courteous and workman-like; we recently had a reporting problem with our microinverters on one of our 12-panel arrays; hi def sent someone out to fix it in two days and it was fixed in two hours; all well done john k, oakland, ca read more

l have the worst experience trying to get them to fix a defective solar panel despite a still good warranty.

I had them install a Gaf High Definition roof with a 50 year warrantee. The roof itself reflects the sun away so the attic stays cooler and gives the heating and air conditioning a break. They took off 6 solar panels I had previously bought from them, and replaced them when the roof was finished. They added 6 new panels which brings the total to 12 panels. Last they put on all new gutters. The different crews arrived on time, worked diligently and cleaned up after themselves. They all had masks on and worked safely. What was most important to me was that they answered all my questions with willingness and I asked a lot of questions as the work progressed. I really appreciated their patience with me and my constant questions. read more

The actual 2+ hour home call is a huge waste of time, filled with old fashioned lies and absolutely ridiculously high prices. Buyer Beware - don't fall for the liars who come door to door with false promises - they want your telephone number, a day/time to lock you in for 2.5 hrs of wasted time and hope to dupe naive or trusting folks- don't let them in your door! read more

We has High Def Solar install our panels over 4 years ago and have seen a 60% reduction in electricity charges from PG&E. They recently came out to investigate an internet reporting issue that was resolved in about an hour. Good company, good people. read more

Had 2 people come over for a consultation. The first person went through all PG&E bills with me and figured out what size of a system I need but the price he was quoting me was way higher than solar city so I didn't go with them. Half a year later a sales rep called me, telling me that they have a significantly lower price now for an industrial size system and they would like to come over for another consultation. I agreed so another guy came over, who was unbelievably rude. Not only did he have none of the information that the first guy collected, which meant that we had to go through all my bills again but he actually insulted me that I didn't save all the info and if I would be serious about buying a solar system that I should be better informed. That was the point when I asked him to leave. On his way out he threw a few more insults my way. If you want to be treated like a valuable customer I'd recommend going with a different company. read more

We expected sales person, installation and we paid cash. What we got is this company dropped the ball numerous times . From October to February it took. We paid cash to avoid high interest that would result in paying double. We had no way since February of checking to see if solar was working. Sales person never showed up to put application that monitors panel. After posting my sadness of the neglect on yelp we immediately got a response and application to monitor panels. The next day Ali showed up and straighten it out. But now were still pay as much as 80.00 a month. So it's easy to see we didn't get enough panels. 11 is what we were told we needed. We expected sales person to know how many we needed to almost eliminate bill. So now we get a call from them stating we are paying to much lets set up a visit to correct this. Good we thought and expected to buy more panels of course. Well this person said we should wait a year before purchasing more. We agreed yet why wait let's end this and pay less sooner. We ended the visit rather then hear war stories and waste our time. So this visit resulted in nothing, so now we get another call to set once again another appointment to solve our problems. So day before we get a call from yet another sales person who says we will have to buy more panels and of course we know that. He tells me we miss treated the gentleman that came the week before. Not true and it's our fault we don't have enough panels and we also sign agreement for eleven panels. We expected someone from this company to know what's best but actually I guess we should know. Yet the last person to our home said he would give us a deal on panels if we needed more in a year. We also asked and asked again was eleven enough. We were told it's not worth selling back to PG&E. But hey we don't care what they pay us, we just don't want to pay them. In the end I let sales person that called that we are done with this back and forth with High definition solar. We'll just get another Solar company to do add on panels. read more

We had High Definition Solar System installed. I was promised a seamless professional solar experience. The sales experience reminded me like dealing with a new car dealer. Start high and then start giving discounts. You really don't know if you got a good deal or if the salesman is laughing at you behind your back. I was assigned a designer to submit the plan of my system to the power company. It took 3 submissions of her design before SMUD accepted the blueprints. Hardly professional! She was clueless on how to do her job. Design and plans for a solar system should be simple since they are submitting a plan for each system they sell. It should be the similar system except the amount of panels change depending on the size. Due to her delay by submitting a faulty design twice I lost over a month of solar power production. The installer did a excellent job and took pride in his work. read more

They just completed my solar installation. I found the salesman was very knowledgeable. He stated from the beginning his price was good for 12 months but if we purchased the same day we would get a discount. From previous reviews I knew they would negotiate as long as I was not trying to take advantage of them. After the agreement was signed about a week later they came out to inspect the roof and make sure the roof was OK. We did have a problem with the roof but they figured out a solution. I liked the idea that each panel had its own inverter and if I want to add on in the future it will be real easy. The installation team was excellent. They cleaned up, were polite and Mark explained everything. While High Definition Solar may not be the cheapest they are not the most expensive. They do offer a quality product, service and price. This is not a company one wants to do business with. They came to my neighborhood going door to door and I had a nice chat with the two young men who were making the rounds. I took a chance and set-up an appointment with the company because I was genuinely interested in their product. Unfortunately, a bit of due diligence revealed that there positive Google reviews were all gamed, their Yelp reviews were bad, and the other positive press they had came from a business review service that is pay-to-play. So, I wrote them a note and cancelled my appointment. They called back, left me a nice message, and I thought that was the end of it. I was wrong. They now call me almost everyday. I've started blocking their main number and now they call on other numbers. There are many good options for solar in the area, High Definition Solar is not one of them. read more

My wife and I had an excellent experience with the HDS team. From a very friendly and thorough initial consultation, to project scheduling and management, to install, it was a very seamless and easy experience. The only minor hiccup was that our electrical panel needed to be upgraded, which added an extra day to the install (we were made aware before purchase that this might be required pending inspection). Experience with HD Solar also referred years ago as Synergy. I bought a home about 3 years ago and was looking at ways to save money including buying an electric car. A young 20-25 year old door to door salesman comes to my door with his pitch on HD Solar. I spent about 30 minutes talking with him and I explained that I am not new to solar technology and understand its benefits. I am aware Gov and CA rebates, credits, net-metering, ROI etc. All I asked is what discounts they provide. Of course he mentioned Financing after I indicated to him I would buy the panels out right, discount on out right purchase and advertisement display on my front lawn. I made the mistake and gave him my number to schedule an appointment in a few months or at least a year, so that they could measure the consumption of my Electricity bill. Since I just bought the home. Almost every month I received a call and made a note to explain that they could not gather enough data to calculate what I needed and emphasized to call after a year. That didnt happen and they continued to call every month at least once a week. A year and half had passed and I reviewed my bills. On average I was paying $30-$40 a month on electricity. I had replaced all lights to LED, purchased appliances that were low consumption, put clothes outside to air dry since there was NO RAIN, have IOT devices to power off equipment, Monitored when we would use electricity the most and when rates were higher. I decided at the time Solar wasn't right for me. So I finally picked up a call 2 years later and the sales rep was courteous and pleasant to speak with. I explained my situation and indicated that it was not the right time to purchase solar knowing it will cost me between 15-20k outright just to get Net-Metering. Typical information about no hassle guarantee on quote, quote lasts a year, consultation is free, engineer will show you how to save money (My case is how to save on the $30-40 I am paying now), explain on ROI, inspect roof (They are also roofers), benefits of solar and on and on. Again I said I would contact them if I considered taking the next steps. A few weeks later I get several calls after 6pm weekdays and random calls on weekends from an out of state number. I decided to pick up the phone while driving home after work and it was a new rep for HD Solar. I let her know I am not interested at this time and to remove me from the call list. That wasn't the case and the calls continued for another year. By that time I marked the number as blocked. I got a call from a 925 area code thinking it was family 6 months ago and I spoke to a rep in their headquarters in Concord.I let him know I wasn't interested and that after re-evaluating, I knew clearly I did not need solar. They continue with the same pitch and I started to think why not schedule them for a quick consultation. Once I started to open up about scheduling, he asked another unusual question that is normally asked by time share companies. "Can you and your wife" be there for the consultation. That's when I realized this company is scripted and out to make the quick buck. For those that are not aware, the purpose of the question about having both husband/wife or partners being there is so that they can make the proposal so attractive that your partner would end up trying to convince you to sign right there and then. This is also a strategy so that they would not need to do the proposal twice and another way to convince you to sign a contract especially when they begin to tell both husband and wife that this deal is only given at that moment. There are YELP reviews here that mention some of the strategies and tactics they use that are very true including the never ending calls. So when I told them that my wife would not be available on some of the set dates I chose, he was trying to convince me that she should be there. So he wanted to work on a schedule to which both husband/wife was there. That was the last straw for me. I told him I will call them if I considered going with them and to remove me from the list. Moving to this morning almost 3 years later. I got a call from the rep and I explained that I do not want solar at all. I indicated to remove me from the list and I would call them if I wanted solar. He asked if I had contacted other solar companies and I indicated I did not want solar at all. I gave him the formula of $50 I spend on electricity, times that by 12 months and times that number by 30 years which would equal $18K. I understand PG&E can increase rates whenever they want to, but at the rate my family is going with electricity costs its better I cut costs for TV/Internet service which is double the cost of my electricity. He provides me a sales pitch and I acknowledge it and indicate I do not want solar. Please take me out the list. We shall see if the calls continue. This has been 3 years of non-stop calls. I would not recommend this company. read more

I just want to pass along high praise for High Definition Solar (formerly Synergy Conservation) who sold me and installed the solar electrical system on my roof. The process started with an in home visit by a very knowledgeable salesperson who explained my options and showed me the micro inverter technology in the panels they use. After I signed the contracts, a site inspection was done at my house for panel placement and to explain where the components would go. And my electrical bills have dropped by over 2/3 from what they were previously. I am very happy with the system. The only negative experience (which is why I deducted a star) I had with them was with the subcontractor used for the actual installation. Their lack of experience with San Francisco County codes caused numerous inspections and delays. However, I understand this sub is no longer used by High Definition Solar so this should no longer be an issue. I highly recommend talking to High Definition Solar if you are considering the solar route. read more

The gentlemen that came out to do the install were so nice and kept everything clean each day they were here, they were very polite and professional. I have had my solar for a year now and am very pleased with the solar and the results I am getting from my panels and I even have called them year later with just a few questions and very nice and professional . I really didn't get too far down the road with High Definition Solar. Just a heads up they do actually require both spouses to be there or they won't proceed or give you a quote. Both my wife and I work and so we split house duties--there is no way we are both going to sit through a sales pitch or quote estimation if just one of us can and then report back to the other. So the salesman just left. I guess that is their business model and if that's what they want to do, fine, but I was a little bummed that apparently I'm not mature enough to correctly report back to my wife! read more

High Definition Solar is a great company! They didn't use any high pressure sales techniques, they just gave me the facts and we ended up saving a ton of money on our astronomical PG&E bill. It was because we were in the higher tier where we were paying about 4x the baseline cost. We wiped that out and our bill went from $400 to about $175. The system will pay for itself in about 8-10 years... We're not moving so it really just made sense, not to mention reducing our carbon footprint and helping the environment! read more

We did a shotgun approach to choosing our solar contractor. We started our process at the end of November. After reviewing several options and learning enough about solar to make us semi experts. We decided to do business with High Definition Solar. With the end of the year looming. High Definition was put to the test. They needed to get our solar installed before the end of the year. Rain and the holidays put this in serious doubt. The good news is they got it done with plenty of time to spare. The not so good news was the city inspectors were behind on their work. We called to double check this (just to be sure) . Correct city behind by 3 weeks. We thought we were out of luck for tax credit til the next year. What do you know somehow , someway HDS made a drive into the city office. When they came out - the city expedited our project. City inspector came out to our house and stated clean job and signed off. We paid extra to work with High Definition Solar. Our business decision was well worth it. We went with High Definition due to their professionalism. Not a fan of their do it today sales approach. We are a fan that everything they claim to be, everything they say they are gonna do. THEY DO! In all of our many years of hiring contractors - this company is the most well thought out and carefully planned. Every single employee that we dealt with were eager and willing. Extremely customer service oriented organization. These people know how to run a business efficiently. Not an easy find when working with contractors. read more

This review is only for my initial sales call and estimate with HD, which concluded earlier today. After reading some of these reviews, I was warily expecting something more akin to a timeshare hard-sales experience. This was not at all the case. Chuck and I did spend over 2 hours discussing solar, but hey, that's because there is a LOT to discuss on a topic this complex. Chuck was level-headed and knowledgeable. I did my part by having my power bills for the last year out and ready, and by brushing up on the basics so that we could have a more in depth discussion on the topics that mattered most to me. I may end up not going with HD (or even installing solar at all) but I would not hesitate to advise others to at least have an initial consultation with HD Solar. And don't just plan to sit through a monologue, be informed and engaged and you'll get more out of the experience. read more

I got a call from High Definition Solar, (probably because I asked for quotes from the website Solar Reviews). A rep went into a short presentation on who they are, etc. and also said he would need to get my high and low monthly and total electricity use for last year plus total cost. He said he would set me up for a house visit the next day, Tuesday but he had to transfer me to his scheduler. Hummmm... he couldn't set it up? She came on the line and we agreed on Tuesday, 10 am. Tuesday came and went and no visit from their rep. I called their office, left a message asking what happened. No one called back to apologize or anything, but the next day, Wed. a rep appeared at the door at 10. Must have been a scheduling error, he said. Let's meet now. I need 1 hour 15 minutes of your time. By that time I had read their terrible reviews and said, don't have time now. What I want you to do is go to Google earth, check out the roof to see if it suitable for solar panels. I'll give you my high, low, monthly use for last year, plus total use and year's total bill, and my email address. Send me a ball park quote and we can go from there. Can't do that, that's not the way we operate he said. I need to get your info from PGE. How about tomorrow? No, I said, I want a quote through email (others do it that way). He again pleaded his case to no avail and left. Since then I have gotten two phone calls from them trying to set up an house visit. They want me to work for them and not them to work the way I want. read more

Bad customer service! Watch for the hard sell with no follow through or printed material with the offer they are telling you. They may or may not contact you if they decide not to show up for an appointment. Story: A salesman approached me when I was working in my front yard. He sold me hard on making a home assessment appointment and could not provide any printed material with the deal we were discussing but assured me if I made an appointment the company would provide me with the details. Seemed fishy. I decided to make an appointment because it was free and didn't think I had anything to loose (I was wrong, as you will see). The sales guy calls the office on his cell and puts me on his phone with a woman who asked a bunch of personal information including details on the ownership arrangement on my house? Treated me like I had to convince them to consider working for me. Should have hung up right then, but no, I made an appointment for the following Saturday at 10 am. Since they only had a couple of slots available I had to arrange my calender to fit their availability. The day before the appointment I received a call from a woman from the company. She said they could not make the appointment that they had pushed so hard for me to make. I rescheduled for the following weekend at the same time since they did apologize for the late notice of the change (why did I do this?). Well, Its now about an hour after my second appointment time and nobody has shown up. No phone call, no email. I called them. No answer. This invokes the three strikes law of terrible customer service. After the fast talking hard sell with no printed material to support it, probing personal questions, then cancelled and missed appointments I am no longer interested in this company. I would hate to have made the mistake of working with them and found out the hard way that they don't show up and don't answer the phone when the system craps out. Don't plan your day around meeting these people as I have twice, they clearly don't value your time. I will be contacting the competition. read more

Don't do it! I have their solar on my roof for more than a year now. I'm a victim of their lies. Do your math very well. Include your APRs on your loan or loans (they might make you do two loans, combo loans) It's not worth it. Also, PG&E will send you a lump sum bill for the year, so don't spend the money you thought your saving. Don't fall into their tax credit pitch. Their Vice President called me himself today. He said they are not tax experts. The question is why are their sales employees using the tax credit as their pitch if they don't know your tax. We had our HD Solar panels installed about 6 months ago. We had a great experience from the moment the lady came to our house for the initial consult all the way to the end of the project. The workers were all very professional and friendly. Our panels are excellent and I love the converter idea which allows you to add more panels when you want. Our PG&E bill went from approx $200 per month to $34 per month. Of course we are paying for the panels as well so it comes out about the same however, we now know we are helping environmentally and at some point we will only be paying the $34 The guys also set you up online monitoring which is great. I recently had a rep come out to see how everything was going. He was very friendly and I appreciated the follow up. Now for my rant on this yelp page- this company does not deserve to have 2 star rating. The system yelp is using to determine which reviews are recommended versus unrecommended seems very faulty. There are higher reviews in the unrecommended section then in the recommended section...this is ridiculous. I highly recommend HD Solar as we researched and met with a few other Solar companies and HD Solar is by far the best. read more
