    High Falls on 02/04/2024

Such a beautiful spot to check out the High Falls! (See the videos attached in this review of this natural beauty taken on 02/04/2024) It's located right next to the Genesee Brewing Company so we parked in the parking lot before heading over to check out the falls and afterwards we ate at Genesee Brewing Company..a great day for sure!! I definitely recommend a visit to the High Falls if ever in Rochester, NY! Till next time, Rebecca

High Falls Terrace 'pocket park' is a new park right next to the high falls and Genesee Brewery. It has it's own entrance and parking lot with sign, and the grounds are designed with colorful benches and lounge-type seating, plus a paved (accessible) walkway. It feels inviting, even though each time I have visited there haven't been many other visitors, and, it's already starting to be graffitied over. I've always felt this little area was sort of a 'secret spot' in Rochester. Before it was designated as an 'official park,' I would park at the brewery and walk over to see the falls from the elevated viewing platform. You had to know it was there though, as the platform was hidden by overgrown shrubbery and weeds, and there was a large billboard there that kind of distracted you. But the platform (which was painted with a 'ground mural' showing barrels in swirling water) has, in my opinion, been one of the most underrated spots in Rochester for viewing the high falls. In spring/summer/fall, you get a great overview of the falls, the gorge and the city skyline; in winter, though the spray from the falls can cause ice build up, you can get some amazing views (and beautiful photos) of the frozen gorge. Since the 'official park designation,' the city has made an effort to maintain the grounds (mowed grass, garbage removed, newly planted trees) and encourage visitors to use the viewing platform, especially since the Pont de Rennes bridge is under construction and currently not accessible. Since summer, I've been here 4 times with groups of visitors to Rochester, and everyone is always impressed by the view. I definitely recommend this park and encourage everyone to visit! The more visitors, the more the city will invest in and maintain places like this, which highlight some of Rochester's best natural resources.

We stumbled a little bit trying to find where the trails started. Initially we were following an online map, but we stopped at the park office to grab a paper copy for easier navigating. The park office is definitely not what I expected - it was a bit neglected, and nobody was there. I was hoping there'd be someone to talk to! Maybe they're just not in on Sundays. So off we went with our paper map! Lots of beautiful buildings - we really enjoyed the cobblestone house. Tree lined paths. Parking lots placed in convenient places. There was a cute little playground by the largest pond, and my daughter really enjoyed the abundance of lily pads. We were already feeling exhausted due to the heat by the time we found a trail entrance, but the trail itself was nice. There were teal colored trail markers nailed to the trees along the way, although the path itself was pretty straightforward until the turnaround. According to the map it should have circled back but there was a sign there for private property, so we hiked back the way we came instead. They had some absolutely gorgeous looking shelters. I'm not sure what the price point is, but it would be a great place for gatherings. Beautiful and peaceful, even if a little bit confusing our first time there. We will definitely be going back again (on a cooler day) to explore some more!
