Interesting place off Exit 80 on I-81 south. Not an easy find (thanks Waze!) but well worth it! You order outside at the smaller building then can eat at picnic tables or inside a larger bldg. Enough of the buildings! We shared a half-pound of brisket and half pound of pulled pork. The brisket may be the best we have had anywhere. Tender, moist, flavorful - Highly Recommended! Headed from Raleigh back to Tennessee and decided to take the scenic route. We're so glad we did. We always keep an eye out for roadside BBQ when we're traveling through the South, and this place did not disappoint. Forget fast food--if you want barbecue that's tender, flavorful, and melts in your mouth, make the stop. The owners came out and chatted with us, and you can tell it's a family-run place that takes pride in what they do. Very clean. Beautiful views. Wonderful BBQ place. Ribs and pulled pork were flavorful, tender, and didn't need a sauce. They did have a very good sweet sauce and a mustard sauce to enhance the ribs. Music to my ears, and shortly was music to my taste buds. Delicious pulled pork, and my buddy had a pound of non- sauced pulled chicken. He liked it. Collard greens were spicy and yummy, cole slaw with a vinaigrette style dressing that was a welcome change from all the mayonnaise based cold slaw dressings. Very tasty. Best of all were the black eyed peas. Like a wonderful veggie stew, very savory with onions and a thick consistency. I could have made a meal of the black eyed peas. Dropped by this gem on the way home from out of town and was met with amazing service and the best barbecue sandwich I have had in a long time. The issue I find with most BBQ spots is that they over complicate the most straightforward things. Here they just got it right. Taste like my granddaddy smoked this pork on his smoker back in 1989! I had a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and added the different sauces. I also had some greens. My family had brisket and beef rib (falling off the bone) along with greens and macaroni and cheese. Stopped here for lunch after reading the good reviews both here and on Find Me Gluten Free. There's a lot of seating both indoors and outside. I had the BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos and they were really good- the pork was tender, and the sweet BBQ sauce played nicely against the jalapeño peppers. The staff was friendly. This was one of the best BBQ restaurants I have ever eaten at. It's also open on Sundays which is an issue that plagues restaurants in Wytheville. We were staying in the area back in June and noticed the restaurant right next to interstate 81. They were all out of brisket but we got pulled pork and chicken. The sauces were incredible (especially the vinegar base sauce) and the meat was tender and very flavorful. I was happy with all the sides as well as their cornbread. You order your food at a window and they bring it out to you. Service was excellent and the friendly owner / manager came by and talked to us for a while. I will definitely be stopping here again anytime I'm in that part of Virginia. read more

I'm always afraid that when I order brisket, it will be a small portion and ver dry and no flavor. This time I was mostly wrong, it was a good portion and flavorful but it was somewhat dry. I did get the Mac and Cheese along with the collards and they both were delicious. The sitting room was a nice option to sitting outside and the room was very clean and presentable. My family and I loved this BBQ! Being Kansas transplants to Virginia we are accustomed to KC style BBQ, but we do like to try different styles and this was definitely unique at least as far as the side dishes. The burnt ends brisket was not necessarily unique, but it was superb in quality and taste. I got a side of chili which was like no chili I had ever had before but was delicious, and the same for the cole slaw. Mac and cheese and tater salad were excellent too! The ribs were excellent and the Carolina style mustard sauce was probably our favorite thing we ate. The burnt ends were tender and saucy and the collards were sweet and vinegar-y. Let me startoff saying this is HANDS DOWN the best place I've ever ate since moving to VA, Potentially even was the best BBQ ive had in my entire life (in my personal opinion)... Majority of food these days gives me major stomach issues, this was the LIGHTEST/EASIEST food on my stomach issues that I've found, exploding with flavor with no recoil on my stomach!!!! I got the short beef rib and it was fall-off-bone tender, freshcollard greens with a bite to them & mac n cheese = EVERYTHING WAS OUTSTANDING!!!! Didn't even need TUMS after demolishing it all down fast! Atmosphere was super clean & kept up with, really peaceful and wasn't crowded when I went (I have bad social anxiety). Only issue was I've been going thru a lot personally in life, and lady up front snapped at me about hitting my Nic Vape once, I apologized and immediately put it up, but then she just had this attitude about anything I said after the fact. I understand she could very well be going thru it in life as well, but there was no visible sign in the lot walking up to outside patio, plus was only couple ppl there... I was in the wrong although sign was on complete different building, but I also apologized and then just was given this negative tone of voice and looks at me by person waiting on me and felt somewhat uncomfortable. Whatever this person is going thru I hope things get better, I didn't take it personally because I know how life can drain your mood and everything. We were staying in Wytheville for the weekend. After reading reviews we decided to try this bbq joint. It's easy to find, and parking isn't marked. Just a gravel lot. It's an order at the window and pick up type of place. They give you a pager if you decide to eat there and have indoor and outdoor dining. The service is friendly as you order. They are happy to answer any questions. Their plates come with a good bit of food: protein, two sides, bread and cornbread. I went with the brisket. I was sad to see their collard greens were sold out. So I went with Mac and cheese and black eyed peas. I've tried a lot of barbecue and this was good, just not the best I've had. Portions were decent. The brisket was smoked well and had some good seasoning on the bark. It wasn't extremely fatty, but cut be cut easily. Everything had some spice and pepper, even the sides. It was overwhelming at times where I couldn't taste the flavor of the meat sauce or sides. The sides were a little cool like they had been sitting. Mac and cheese was okay. The black-eyed peas were bland aside from the pepper. I got an end piece of cornbread so it was a little dry. So overall everything was okay and I probably would have rather carried this out. The only other thing that we didn't like was the soft drinks are cans. And $1.50 for one is a little high. Had we known we would have done take out and use the drinks we had at our cabin. They would benefit from a soda machine. Overall, a decent bbq place. I would go again and try some other things. read more

Our son and his girlfriend had the pulled pork, also delicious. I had the smoked turkey, which was amazing. Several sauces that were all good. The sides were nice accompaniments to the meal, but mixed reviews. The vinegar style coleslaw was very good. Compliments on the potato salad from one person. Cornbread could have used some honey.
