Clubhouse Sandwich was great! Nice people.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great restaurant/bar with a "locals only" feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was good and not insanely expensive. Waitstaff was fast and responsive.

Crispy chicken salad and a nacho

If I could add more stars than 5 I would. Great food, wonderful service. This place had such a chill feeling. The staff really knows how to make you feel as if they are a good friend you've known for years. My co-worker and I stopped in for our lunch hour. They had us in & out with perfect timing. No complaints!!!! Can't wait to go back for happy hour. The chicken on my salad was so good, juicy & crispy- wasn't rubbery like a lot of restaurants are. The nacho was hands down the biggest (best tasting) thing Ive ever seen- absolutely meant to share. I'm excited to go back and try other things on the menu- there was so much to choose from.

    12oz Cut Prime Rib

Ordered prime rib 12oz to share with my husband, very disappointed. More than half of the prime rib was fat. It was semi warm and not much flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere at high rocks is good but this is the 4th time I have ate here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only thing I like is the club sandwich. Very disappointed in the food at high rocks. I would think the owners would expect their cooks to know how to trim the fat. Granted most prime ribs have some fat... but not 3/4 of the steak. Not to mention our server was not as attentive as I was hoping. She wasn't bad but not great either. Very disappointed. I don't know if I'll come back again. If I do, it will be for the beer and the club. See photo below

Food was mid and service was slow overall it's what you'd expect out of a low budget steak house tucked behind a Safeway from the praying eyes of man. Server was nice.

Quiet place with several sports channels up and running, acknowledged upon entering, older place hanging on kind of feel, perfect if you're trying to avoid boisterous crowds. Waitress is cheerful and that's important tonight...Amanda, thank you for being pleasant!

The new owners are doing a good job providing good food, reasonable pricing and welcoming customer service. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was pretty fresh! The indoor fireplace is cool too. I would recommend this place for hang outs, larger parties and sports watching.

Included dinner salad. The blue cheese dressing was just ok. Didn't have that blue cheese punch for me.

I was here for work, the restaurant was right next to my hotel. Service was a lil slow but not a deal breaker. I was shocked how good the ribeye was. Literally fork tender, drinks were good, service was a B+. Took 40 minutes to place my dinner order. The gal behind the bar was working the whole time and attentive. So I'm not mad at the wait, the food was worth it. Good atmosphere and great food for a fair price. My dinner was the food highlight of my 3 week stay in Portland.

    a plate of food

I just ate at High Rocks after a few years' absence and ordered my favorite, the Rueben, but what I received was a flimsy, tough, burnt sandwich. The salad was great, the Irish coffee was good, but I wouldn't walk across the street for the sandwich. In bygone years the sandwich would have been on par with Rose's. When the waiter asked if I wanted to take the 3/4 of leftover sandwich home in a box, I just said "you've got to be kidding..." I was told they recently changed management which often means things improve or go completely on the cheap side. 'Nuff said.

So I understand that they have new owners? Is anything else changing?

They now serve breakfast starting at 7AM. Give it a try. Been 4 times, had 4 different things all good. Talked with the new owner 3 times now and getting cooks that enjoy cooking is a priority!

They rearranged upstairs adding another pool table and some lounge couches. They have pushed all the tables and chairs against one shorter wall, in a line making it tight quarters and forcing you to sit next to strangers. There is no elbow room. It wasn't busy up there so I tried not to be bothered with this. Our waitress greeted us immediately. Brought our waters, menus and checked on us 3-4 times. She was great. Our food was NOT great let alone, ok! I ordered the shrimp scampi/risotto dish. It came with a side of garlic bread. My husband ordered the lemon capered chicken and my daughter the smash burger. My food and my husband's food tasted like I was eating CREAM OF SALT with garlic and the bread was even more salty. He was starving and just ate it, I only got through about half. It was so salty. My daughter said her burger was dry and tasted weird. She didn't finish it. Her fries were good. We didn't complain. We were hungry and uncomfortable being squished up like that. I just wanted to be done with the whole experience. I won't say that I'll never be back. I understand that chefs and restaurants staff are human and mistake like over salting a dish can happen. Prior to this past weekend, hadn't had a problem with food, staff or seating. However, I do hope someone in management/ownership sees my review so improvements/changes can be made. Not only with the dishes that are being served to paying customers but the seating arrangements upstairs. Those tables and chairs are far too squished together.

Verdict Bar & Grill in Oregon City is a really cool whiskey bar with a speakeasy-style atmosphere,…read moregreat drinks, and seriously impressive bartenders. I stopped in recently to pick up a to-go order and ended up sitting at the bar for a drink while I waited. I was greeted right away when I sat down and given a food menu. The place was completely slammed, but the two bartenders were absolutely dialed in. They were mixing signature cocktails, pouring wine, draft beer, and spirits nonstop while still checking in with guests. Watching them work was impressive -- the focus and efficiency looked more like professional mixologists than typical bartenders. The space itself has a great vibe. You enter from the 8th Street door and it feels like stepping into a hidden basement speakeasy. The interior is dimly lit with a huge illuminated whiskey wall. The bar is centered in the room with booths along the outside, making it a really cool date-night spot. While waiting for my food I ordered a Fort George City of Dreams Hazy IPA, which was cold and fantastic. As soon as I saw the cocktail menu though, I immediately regretted not ordering one of their house drinks -- the 8th Street Margarita looked especially good. I also noticed that all the whiskey drinks coming out had these beautiful crystal-clear 3" ice cubes, which is a great touch and shows they take their cocktails seriously. I originally came in because I've been ordering the Buffalo Mac & Cheese from their food cart about once a month for the last few years. Their Oregon City cart recently closed, so this was my first time getting it from the bar. My to-go order took about 30 minutes, which was totally understandable given how busy the place was. The staff stayed friendly and attentive the whole time. The Buffalo Mac & Cheese was still very tasty. The macaroni was great with a creamy cheese sauce and good buffalo flavor throughout. The chicken tasted like it may have been frozen at some point and was a little chewy compared to the crunchier chicken I remember from the food cart version, but overall the dish was still really good and something I'll definitely order again. Great atmosphere, skilled bartenders, solid food, and a really unique whiskey-bar vibe in Oregon City. Next time I come back I'm definitely sitting down and ordering one of those cocktails. Tip: Sit at the bar if you can -- watching the bartenders craft the drinks is half the experience.
