I drive down there and she Mike at the gun counter if they had any, because I didn't see any where the 9mm ammo is. He said "We don't have any". I told him that was odd because it was clearly on the website. He looked bothered about my question and he responded " They might come in tonight" and that the website doesn't update. I said ok and continued shopping. As I was walking I saw a display full of the Blazer 9mm ammo as advertised. I thought WTH! Mike just told me Academy never received a shipment. I bought some. I then picked up a soft rifle case for my new .22. I asked Mike if he had a Winchester Wildcat I can see to measure my new case, he immediately said "NO". I walked over to the .22's and the first thing I saw was a Wildcat. He has no clue and didn't bother to check. He got the rifle and attempted to disengage the bolt which he was unsuccessful. He didn't see the bolt release. Lol! You can't make this up!! He helped me measure but in our conversation he said "I don't own any firearms" but you're working in the firearm section right? Mike has no clue about anything in the firearm section and should be transferred to another section of the store. Anything but firearms and knives.

But my wife has recently become a "backpacker" and I wanted to get her fitted for a legitimate backpack so we made an exception to our black friday rule and went to the only place I would go to locally backpacking and other outdoor gear, River Rock Outfitter Even though the shop was filled with customers, Keith and April, the owners, immediately greeted us. When April finished with her customer she began the process for fitting my with a backpack. This process which included measuring her torso, what type of backpacking it was for day hikes or multiple day/night trips, types of weather, trying on multiple packs (with weigjts in the pack) took approximately 40 minutes, maybe more, but it was such a pleasant experience, it only seemed like minutes. My wife and April found the perfect pack but since it was not in the color my wife wanted, April placed in on order. We'll return in a day or two, try it on again and walk out with an early Christmas present for my wife we will now be able to share and enjoy many more years of backpacking together with a comfortable backpack. Recently I bought a rifle at the Fredericsksburg location, intending to pick up the weapon on 30 June. Upon arrival, my weapon was ready but the Va State Police check was not processed due to horrendous volume of checks being done before new VA laws went into effect on 1 July 2026. So, I had to go home, driving back 50 miles to where I live, and then returned a few days later when Sportsmans called me and told me my VSP check was complete. I picked up my weapon in a few minutes and went home, as these guys are very fast and efficient in their processes to buy guns. Two days after I got home, I received a credit for 50 dollars for my purchase, which I can assume was due to not getting my weapon when they told me to come to the store and pick it up. I did not ask for any refund nor did I suggest any, but Sportsmans gave me one anyway. This is the type of business model that makes life long customers and shows a level of caring about people that I do not see often in any business. Thanks for the 50 bucks and it was a pleasure doing business with this location. (in case anyone is wondering, I am a retired Fed with a LEOSA permit, so there is never any issue with a VSP check for a firearm purchase, with 47 seconds the least amount of time I had to wait for my check to clear the VSP).
