Usually, when we go to a restaurant, it is the main event and we select a place accordingly. But when you are heading to an early concert and you don't want to arrive with an empty stomach, the calculus changes. Despite a heavily pizza oriented menu, we ordered fish and chips and it was quite respectable. A decent glass of Chardonnay, a homemade cannoli and cheerful service added to our enjoyment. This is not fine dining by any measure. But a well crafted straight forward menu at a decent price is not a bad accompplishment in a college town. Second time here and they didn't disappoint. Started off with the truffle fries as an appetizer. Next came the Mac and Cheese as the entree. It was the absolute best Mac and Cheese I've ever had. I met a colleague from work at Highbrow, I'd heard about it for some time and wanted to give it a try. For starters we had the truffle fries, sticky ribs, and calamari. All were solid with my favorite being the sticky ribs. For my main I had the grilled Caesar salad. It was good but overdressed. I'm giving 3 stars because the service was pretty slow although the restaurant was not at all crowded (only 4 or so tables occupied). Also, it was very hot. I didn't realize that there was no A/C, I felt it was difficult to enjoy the meal. I'll be back for sure but not until fall when it's cooler out. read more

She had a decent pizza, and I enjoyed the brussels sprouts, but my pizza (balsamic, tomato, & arugula) was actually inedible. Crust and cheese were way overdone, vegetables tossed on top couldn't disguise it. The waitress apologized but the item wasn't removed from the bill. Waste of a wood fired pizza oven. We've tried it a few times now and the pizzas are consistently mediocre. There is just nothing that sets them apart. Also, how do you mess up a margherita pizza? It's just supposed to be fresh mozzarella, but High Brow makes it with shredded regular pizza cheese which totally ruins what should be the most basic of all pizzas. We've ordered it twice now and it's been made this way both times. No self respecting pizza place makes margherita pizza this way. We had a birthday party at Highbrow on Saturday 10/17, the same day as the No Kings protest. Northamnpton was very corwded that day, however we had reservations for 7. We arrived and were seated right away, and drinks were ordered. Shortly after we ordered our food, mostly pizzas and a few entres and waited 90 minutes with no follow up from the wait staff before we asked what the hold up was. The staff said they were very busy however the restaurant was not even half full and wait staff were standing around talking. They said they can only make 5 pizzas at a time and were handling many orders. After getting a bit irrate, I asked again and our food came 1 hour and 45 minutes after ordering and not all at once, rather with me waiting for my entre while the party waited to eat to my objection, before my food arrived. The food was not very good and certainly not worth the wait. After all this waiting, I would expect them to comp us drinks or something for the inconvience. The final insult was they put an automatic and unearned 20% tip on the bill due to the size of the party. While I often tip 25%, the standard is 15% and subject to the judgement of the client, not the establishment. I found it was much better under previous management when I was a big fan of the place. It was clear they make a priority of take out orders over sit down service. I will not be returning. read more

Oh my Lord. This was the best pizza topping that I have had in over a decade. The short rib and sweet onion pizza was amazingly good. I never would have expected it. The onions added a sweetness to it that went perfectly with the sauce. Cheese was a blend of asiago and mozzarella. I loved it. (I had it on gluten-free crust because I had to. It was ok, but not the best crust I have had. Still, the slice was five stars. My adult daughter had the Mac and cheese with chicken on it. The serving was huge and delicious. The pasta tasted like it was made locally and the cheese was amazing. It was enough for dinner and two lunches to take home. There were a bunch of great looking dinner items. We stopped by early on Saturday 11/16, hoping for dinner. Most of the place was empty. I waited a few minutes before I interrupted the woman at the hostess station as she was very busy on her phone, and then with a social conversation with a coworker. Clearly annoyed with my presence, she told me that I could not get a table and would not be able to for at least two hours. The owner helped me in a bind a few months ago, my kiddo wanted a wood fired pickle pizza she had had while on an adventure in the Berkshire and he helped recreate it for her birthday. She was so grateful and others from the party enjoyed it and called to order it again! I've been meaning to try them out for a long time, but my parter is gluten sensitive, and lactose sensitive so it's hard to drag her to a pizza/pasta place. I have fond memories of pizza paradisio, so knowing the linage of highbrow made me very excited to try it. And then... Covid. Fast forward to tonight. We had a craving for wings and our usual spot for delivery was suddenly closed. Doordash recommended highbrow, and the wings in the image looked good. I tossed on a chicken, basil, and fresh Roma tomato pie and a cannoli for myself for dessert. The wings were exquisite. The meat was so tender it slid off the bones. The sauce has an almost Thai flavor. There's hints of ginger. And a creaminess that suggests... dare I say it? Peanut butter. The wings are clearly baked in the oven and had a crispness that was just perfect. The side of blue cheese was also very good. A lighter feeling version of this dressing than most use, with a perfect pungent kick. A side of carrots rounded the dish out. The pizza was very good. A little cool by the time it hit to us. I imagine it's even better fresh from the oven. The crust was perfect. Crisp on the edges, with a lovely smoky flavor. The cheese and topping were generous, and of good quality. There wasn't much sauce, which I would have liked a little more, but it was flavorful. The cannoli was perfect. Clearly filled to order. The shell was crisp, the filling was dense and creamy. I came to Northampton to visit a friend who was spending her birthday weekend. I liked how there was free street parking available right outside the restaurant. I got the blackberry margarita which was very good and not overally sweet at all. Unfortunately it was a little downhill after that. I listed we were there for a birthday and we were still placed at a table that was objectively way too high traffic and essentially a hallway. It was the junction between the waitress stand and the loft area staircase. I asked to switch and the waitress said no although there were a few other 2 person seats available. They didn't explain why the table was for the other 2 person reservation. It was a little disappointing especially since we were celebrating an occasion and I noted this on the reservation. I understand restaurants want to maximize but when guest have to be brushed by multiple passerby's it's hard to enjoy the meal and conversation. We were able to order our food quickly which was nice and it took about 45m to come out which was long but I understand they have many evening take out orders in addition to a full restaurant. The pizza came out hot which was nice. But my friends pizza was CHARRED BURNT around the crust, truly a ring of black. The price is about $15 for a small pizza and cocktail were $13. I didn't see too many entrees of meals higher than $35. ThThis isn't in particular to the restaurant but I was followed by the police who ran my plates and found a parking ticket and suggested I pay that. Overall not a friendly place for people of color when I saw the table I immediately regretted using my real name on the reservation and I likely will never return again. Issues. Came in for a friends 30th birthday dinner. I'm going to be honest here: We weren't sat right away even with a reservation & we waited 45 minutes for services. We had called ahead of time to see what their corkage fee was and they happily told us they don't have one, great! So we brought a bottle we wanted to enjoy and then they said they couldn't open any outside wines. Confusing as we had called, the receptionist must not have known what we meant. Anyways, due to the extended service wait and unease with drinks we weren't happy right off the bat. Almost wanting to leave. But eventually we ordered and the food came. It was fine. Pasta under-salted, pizza dry but some flavor. It wasn't bagged food. The waitress was kind. She said the manager was going to come over and talk to us about the wine, but he or she never showed. I wanted to love this place so bad- it's been on my list of must visit restaurants for quite some time now and I decided to stop in today for lunch. I ordered the chicken Milanese lunch and a spicy margarita. The margarita was OK, but didn't really taste any spice in it. 35 min after ordering the lunch crowd was all starting to empty out and I was left as the last person in the restaurant hoping my food was coming out soon. 50 minutes after ordering I was told there was an issue with the ticket system and my order never went through, but they were working on it now. Food eventually came out and chicken was good but didn't notice any crispy artichokes as the menu mentioned (although could have been buried somewhere in the overdressed arugula salad covering the plate) and there were no shoestring fries as the menu mentioned. The bartender was great though and made sure my second margarita was spicy to my preference. Not giving up yet - will give it another try but definitely a bit let down from expectations today. We were in Northampton after moving our kid into college and wanted a decent nice dinner. We came in without a reservation (on a Tuesday night) and were told about 30-45 minutes to wait or we could sit at the bar. We went for a walk and came back; they hadn't called us yet but when we popped in to check, they could seat us outside (our preference). They have a decent menu and nice wines by the glass, 5-ounce or 9-ounce pours, which was nice. We had the Caesar and each got a pizza, though they were big enough we could have shared. I hate leaving bad reviews at restaurants because I'm in the service industry, and I get it! That being said, I've been here 3 times in the past 6 months, and everytime I say I'm never coming back due to the wait time at the table, the time it takes to get drinks, food, apps, and even the attention of the waitstaff. The last time I was there we waited 45min -1 hour for our food, and never had the chance to ask for another drink because the waitress was ignoring us. I've been in the weeds PLENTY of times, but when my table keeps looking around and seems antsy, I can tell!!! I understand they may be short staffed, but even then the experiences I've recently had have been unpleasant and unacceptable. I hope they can turn this around because I love HighBrow! read more

This was such a disappointment! The staff was friendly, and that's all that was good about this meal. We ordered a large Margherita pizza and truffle fries sans the aioli sauce, for pickup. First the pizza. For the price, it's wicked small. It wasn't fully cooked although the crust was burnt. The cheese wasn't melted and it was cold by the time we got home only a few minutes after pickup. Then, the truffle fries were soggy. The flavor was mediocre, but also over-priced.
