Went here last night and it was a BAD experience. The hostess greeted us asked if we had a reservation which I replied no to. Then she proceeded to push stuff in the tablet and say "well I have a table but we need it back at 630 for a reservation" which was extremely rude because it was 5pm. This sent the message of "well you can eat here but you need to get out in a hour and a half". There was maybe 4 other tables being used so it was pretty empty at the time. By the time it was 6pm we had been brought waters and one appetizer. Our waitress came to our table 3 times saying that our food was almost out. From the first time she said that to when we actually got our food it had to have been at least 20 minutes. I ordered chicken parm and my chicken was very hot but my pasta was cold. Kinda pathetic since all the other people hadn't ordered yet or ordered at the same time. The owner who was in the kitchen area wasn't really doing much. At one people it looked like he was texting on his phone. Our waitress brought the wrong food to two table near us, to me not a big deal mistakes happen but as she was walking away to switch the food she made a rude comment to the people that must have been upset. Went here with a large group. They have a nice lower level seating area for larger groups. Nice selection of wines, beer on tap, and cocktails. I tried a few of the beer selections. Our group tried the sticky wings, ribs, truffle fries, calamari, and mussels - all were very good. I got the duck pizza which had caramelized onions, fig, arugula, and some other things. We arrived on time and the host girl told us it would be 10 more mins. About 20 mins later she left to go deliver some pizza and didn't even say a word to us as she walked by. This place is great. The manager was super nice, funny, and helpful. He gets a 10/5 easily. I want to give this place 5/5 but two things: the mac N cheese wasn't very good. Flavorless.. it was lacking a sharpness to the cheese. I'd suggest a sharp cheddar or shave some on top to mix in. I ordered a duck pizza but received a mushroom pizza. I ate most of the mushroom mozzarella and just assumed that they may have infused a duck broth into the dough, but again I didn't taste it. I just assumed it wasn't a good "duck" pizza. I've been meaning to try them out for a long time, but my parter is gluten sensitive, and lactose sensitive so it's hard to drag her to a pizza/pasta place. I have fond memories of pizza paradisio, so knowing the linage of highbrow made me very excited to try it. And then... Covid. Fast forward to tonight. We had a craving for wings and our usual spot for delivery was suddenly closed. Doordash recommended highbrow, and the wings in the image looked good. I tossed on a chicken, basil, and fresh Roma tomato pie and a cannoli for myself for dessert. The wings were exquisite. The meat was so tender it slid off the bones. The sauce has an almost Thai flavor. There's hints of ginger. And a creaminess that suggests... dare I say it? Peanut butter. The wings are clearly baked in the oven and had a crispness that was just perfect. The side of blue cheese was also very good. A lighter feeling version of this dressing than most use, with a perfect pungent kick. A side of carrots rounded the dish out. The pizza was very good. A little cool by the time it hit to us. I imagine it's even better fresh from the oven. The crust was perfect. Crisp on the edges, with a lovely smoky flavor. The cheese and topping were generous, and of good quality. There wasn't much sauce, which I would have liked a little more, but it was flavorful. The cannoli was perfect. Clearly filled to order. The shell was crisp, the filling was dense and creamy. They did not have anyone assigned to take out or the hostess area. Random servers just kept saying my pizza was in the oven. 15 minutes later I was handed a cold pizza, and the server acted as if they did such a great favor finally locating my cold pizza, and did not care the order was cold. We ordered the braised short rip pizza. The ribs were great. The quality of the crust was bland, and hard. The pizza overall was jaw hurting to chew and extremely dry. Sauce also had no flavor. I also noticed while there someone's appetizers of muscles was sitting the entire 15-20 minutes I was there and just kept getting moved from shelf to shelf. So gross. Keep taking applications my friends because you are waaay understaffed! Went FRI a night before a 7:30 show and waited over 40 min for our arugula salads to arrive. Finally told the waitress we had to be out in 1/2 hr and to bring it all (entrees, etc) at once - 10 min later she did. But she brought me fish & chips rather than the tuna appetizer I ordered. I ate it anyway because we were hungry. And I told her about it when I paid ( we were charged full price). HighBrow in Northampton MA review from last night! Overall we gave them a 8 out of 10! Definitely a return to restaurant for us! With the new regulations due to covid we think they did pretty well. We had a pleasant server even though it was a hot and muggy day our only complaint was that we were melting! Fully covered from the sun was nice but needed more air flow! But again not to much they could do about it with current situation! Now on to the food! Blueberry Mocktail super yummy and refreshing! White sangria no complaints here! Truly one of the best restaurant meals I've had in a while. My friend Emily and I were visiting the town of Northampton for the day and were recommended to try this place by one of the local shop workers and I am now going to recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the area. It's a small hole in the wall kind of place with indoor and outdoor seating and a very cozy homey feeling. We got the truffle fries, rigatoni bologense and short rib pizza to share between the two of us. Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh tasting. My husband and I ate at High Brow the night after Smith College graduation. The menu looked like a nice variety of selections. I ordered the halibut with herb risotto and asparagus. The wait was quite long although the restaurant was not overcrowded. Understaffed maybe? I received a beautiful piece of halibut, perfectly cooked. But the dish was so over salted! The top of the fish was salty plus there were olives and capers, all salty. It was terrible! I cut off the salty top of the fish and did not eat the olives and capers. Placed on online order at 3:20pm on Saturday, and order was confirmed with a pickup time of 4pm. I get there at 4pm, and they inform me that they don't open until 4:30. What!? They told me they wouldn't start my order til 4:30 and I had to come back. Very chill spot and nice shaded alley setup for outdoor dining while under covid. Nice chill waitress and my lady quite enjoyed her artfully presented Caesar salad with three big whole anchovies as the center of the whole presentation. When it came to the pizza however, it just wasnt hitting for me, especially the crust which was almost more like a pita wrap type consistency or something. The flavors mimicked somewhat more delicious white pies I've had at other times but only in a far more muted and muddled fashion. It's important to note that I am a Native New Yorker and freakish pizza obsessive so take that for what it is, but at the same time understand that I would most certainly not ever eat the pizza here again under my own volition, and it serves as general reinforcement for the talking point that pizza should generally by in large be avoided outside of a few specific geographic areas. read more
