Always such a treat to come here! Excellent service, fantastic food/ drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. Enjoyed the chick pea flour fish n' chips tonight with a glass of Malbec. Not the best pairing but I love my red wine and fried food! entree is served with truffle aioli and house made ketchup. Yes! I'm happy!

The Blue Heron never disappoints. Most recently, we enjoyed roasted olives, whipped feta with honey, scallops and hangar steak. Everything was perfect, including our cocktails and the donuts we enjoyed with a glass of port for dessert. Fantastic service and a fine dining experience that isn't fussy.

    Pork chop.

Significant decline in food from pre-Covid. First time was Michelin star quality, now it's less than average. Everything is over cooked and on the bland side. That's OK, but they are asking Boston waterfront prices. I had a tough, grainy pork chop ($35), with over and under-cooked Brussel Sprouts, and something resembling risotto. My son had a dried out carcass of duck. He didn't finish it. My daughter had the salmon which she said was ok, but she was not impressed. The soup of the day was potato-leek, and was a bland starchy uninspired concoction. The wait staff is terrific and accommodating. Everything seems to be off in this once venerable establishment. I won't be back.

Nice resturant with friendly and attentive staff. The food was very good and the main entree was a good portion. I had the pork chop.

The menu that accompanied my Christmas gift of a Blue Heron gift card mentioned "Blue Heron Sunday Supper", a three-course meal for $35. Is that currently available? Has anyone experienced this? What were your foiled choices? Recommend?

Reviewed by Frog E. Green, Local Insect Control Specialist…read more As a longtime resident of the landscaping district immediately outside Hope & Olive, I've sampled many dining establishments in the area. Most offer mediocre lighting, poor insect traffic, and zero ambiance. Hope & Olive, however, continues to set the gold standard for frog fine dining. I arrived yesterday evening and secured a prime outdoor window-side table (vertical seating available for amphibian guests). The view was excellent, featuring lush greenery, attentive human patrons, and a climate-controlled observation deck. The appetizer selection was promising. Several small flying items passed through the area, but I decided to hold out for something more substantial. Excellent decision. Approximately midway through service, an enormous grasshopper practically launched itself onto a decorative hanging orb provided by management. I was immediately impressed by Hope & Olive's commitment to fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The entrée did put up a bit of a struggle. However, after a brief period of strategic positioning, professional stalking, and one lightning-fast procurement maneuver, I was able to enjoy the entire grasshopper. Portions are very generous. In fact, the meal was nearly as long as I am. Service was outstanding. The nearby humans appeared fascinated by my dining experience and refrained from interrupting me while I consumed an insect roughly the size of a canoe. After dinner, comfortably stuffed, I retired to the interior of the decorative orb for what can only be described as a food coma. It served as an excellent after-dinner lounge. As for the human food, judging from the smiles, laughter, and complete lack of attempts to steal my grasshopper, it appeared to be quite good as well. Pros: Farm-to-frog dining Excellent grasshopper acquisition opportunities Beautiful garden views Comfortable post-meal napping accommodations Curious but respectful human audience Cons: Grasshopper only appears once per evening Difficult to fit into your mouth, but that's a "me" problem Would hop here again. I swear the woman could read our minds, anticipating our questions. Now to the food. We started with fried brussel sprouts. Huge portion. Flavorful, not overcooked, just the right amount of crispness...and those bacon pieces!? Yum. I had the chicken wings and a beet salad. I'm a Buffalo, NY native folks, and thus have had my share of great chicken wings. Johnny's wings were on par with anything I've had in the Queen City. My only suggestion to make it real Buffalo style is thick blue cheese dip. The other meals served were amazing - two pasta dishes and the fried chicken. All tasty. Everyone loved their dishes. The prices were very fair for the quality and quantity of food brought to the table. I'm surprised at the 4.1 Yelper average. The meal and service we had tonight was excellent.

We ordered the calamari for an appetizer and it was very good as usual. Calamari (fried) is served atop an aioli that's heavy with garlic. For my main course I opted for the branzino with seafood risotto. I would not recommend this dish. The branzino came out slightly warmer than room temperature with a big dollop of room temp butter on it. I wonder if the intention was to put the plate under the salamander to warm / crisp things up prior to service but was forgotten. So I scraped the butter off the fish and onto the side plate it went. I was hoping for crispy skin but alas it was not to be found on this dish. Off came the skin and onto the side plate as well. The fish did have a good flavor to it. The seafood risotto was swimming in butter and was not edible. There were several mussels (in the shell) in the risotto, as well as small bay scallops, and several shrimp. The scallops and shrimp were incredibly overcooked and the mussels so gritty that they were inedible. This place used to be my favorite restaurant. I think that this is the last time that I'll dine at Johnny's in Amherst.

He…read moreis genuinely one of the best bartenders I've had and has pretty much single-handedly locked me in as a Saturday regular. The Saturday Pop of the Week is SUCH a fun concept -- a boozy popsicle served in a glass of champagne -- and I genuinely find myself wanting to come back every Saturday just to see what he comes up with next. The one pictured was lavender, mint, lemon, and vodka popsicle (THAT HE LITERALLY CAME UP WITH) in champagne, and honestly... the PERFECT drink. Refreshing, creative, balanced, and just sooooo good. But what really makes the experience is Anda. He knows his drinks, knows the food, and gives incredible recommendations and pairings. The oysters were fantastic, including the dressed oyster with strawberry granita, which I probably wouldn't have thought to order on my own but absolutely loved. Then he recommended the cinnamon bun brioche donut and OH. MY. GOD. It was unbelievably soft, warm, heavenly, and the perfect way to finish brunch. I will never get over how soft and light it was. Beyond knowing the menu inside and out, Anda is just so relatable, personable, and genuinely fun to talk to. He makes sitting at the bar feel like part of the experience rather than just somewhere you're having a meal. Every recommendation has been spot-on, and he somehow makes my experience at AOB feel memorable every single time. At this point, Amherst Oyster Bar has become my go-to and one of my most frequent spots, and Anda is honestly a huge reason why. Great oysters, ridiculously good food, creative drinks, and a bartender who clearly knows what he's doing and makes you excited to come back. Couldn't be more pleased -- or more wowed -- by my experiences here. And yes, I will absolutely be back next Saturday for the next Pop of the Week!
