The staff and service are good, but the course itself needs significant improvement. It plays reasonably well, but the greens are in poor condition, and some areas of the course appear overgrown while others lack maintenance. The cart paths are a wreck, and the layout is confusing, largely due to ongoing work that doesn't seem to lead to improvements. Highland Park Golf Course is steeped in history. It is where Bob Hope 1st played golf. The Blue course hosted the Cleveland Open in 1964 & '65. It was the first course to offer 6 figure prize to the winner of a PGA event. Greats like Palmer, Nicholas, & Tony Lema played there. The greens on the Blue course are typically excellent and fast. That said, the fairways and rough are almost never well kept... but the blue course is a great place to find one's game and learn how to strike it crisp. Very good value for your money. Remember too that the Red course is for chops, the Blue course is for players. read more

This is the worst course I've ever played. The fairways are in awful shape, when there are cart paths they are worse to drive in then the grass. The worst thing is, since this course is so bad, the clientele is awful, terrible golfers with no etiquette. Be prepared for a 5-6 hour round. read more

On the other hand, the course still has much room for improvement and is now, 2026, charging fees like it is Manakiki (Cleveland Metroparks course that is in a completely different league in all respects). Although the greens are in good shape, sand is virtually non existent in the bunkers, fairways were not bad Tuesday morning May 19, but if you stray from the fairway by as little as 1 foot, your ball is buried in 6 to 15 inches over overgrown grass and weeds. There are also areas 15 feet off the several greens that look to be uncut for several months. This is not a championship course and it is extremely frustrationg to look for 1 to 3 golf balsl for a foursome every single hole. I do not recommend this course until some major chages are made to the course upkeep. read more

I play this public golf course in the Friday Women's League, which has just celebrated 50 years of golfing here. The course is going through a wonderful transformation and update. The clubhouse is updated with a new computer system, pro shop, new paint, carpet, kitchen, and dining room which is very nice for events. There are two practice putting greens. Rumor is that a driving range may be in the works. Rotten trees have been cut down. More work is going on this summer to fill in fairway holes and new car path. Each staff member is knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to help the guests with information and suggestions about the course/s. Starter was very unprofessional and ruined our round before we even got started. He rushed us onto the tee box before our tee time and then hounded us to drop our balls on the green after the first shot. We didn't even get to finish the first hole, only to be stuck behind a foursome waiting to tee off on the 2nd hole. He said "tell your lady friends they need to drop and the green and get moving" to one of the men in our group. This was our first time at this course and we will not be returning and do not recommend. read more

This was by far the worst overall golf experience I've had. The course was in poor condition, the greens were torn up and the fairways had what I can only describe as "pot holes" and "speed bumps". On top of the poor course management, the 18 hole round took just over 5 hours. My father and I were waiting on the foursome ahead of us, who was also waiting on another foursome the entire round. Highland Park has been getting better. At one point a few years ago it was simply a dump andI had to be convinced to go back. I've watched a few people like Sue, who works there, come in and walk that course on a regular basis to make and suggest changes. No one is friendlier than she and Melissa. The course needs more investment from the city for sure. Expectations: Highland is Not Manakiki! No fancy meals and as of yet no good brewskis. Minimal eating opportunities while there. But it's close and inexpensive. The blue course doesn't drain well relative to the red course. The grass can be a bit long, but that is changing. I even took a few swings this winter. It was wet, but great greens. One thing to note is that in the summer, the greens can get too dry. Also, you can always get some nice views of wildlife- Turkey, deer, rabbit, hawks, and every note and then a coyote. Overall, it's not the best golf course courses in the city but it's good enough to come out and play neighborhood golf. The staff is friendly, especially Sue and Melissa, and very responsive. Over the last two years the course is getting better and as long as it stays going positive, I'll keep playing there. And since it's always easy to get a tee-time last minute, I enjoy just dropping by for a quick nine. read more

This golf course is fantastic. Both courses are well maintained and very fun to play. The carts are cleaned and sanitized after every use, during this COVID pandemic, and are always ready to use when you get there. The employees are very nice and personable, except the old guy who is the starter most of the time, he is not pleasant. Despite that one guy, everyone here is great and he does not stop me from wanting to play this course as often as I can. read more

If you're slightly below average or beginning golfer, this is the best course in the area. The price is right: $35 for $18/with cart on a Saturday morning. You won't find any water, few bunkers & even fewer tight fairways. But if you're looking for a place to tighten up your game or develop a game at all, this is a great spot to do it. read more

Good cheap place to play golf on the east side of Cleveland. I would be very careful leaving your clubs outside the clubhouse. I have heard multiple stories about clubs and even full sets of irons being picked up by some of the people that hang around there. Keep a watchful eye. read more

This is a classic Cleveland public golf course. While the new management has really cut down on the overwhelming amount of geese shit, it's still the same run down convenient course to go play. They happen to have one of the best burgers in Cleveland with the toasted bun. I highly recommend grabbing something to eat. Be prepared to have lots of extra balls with you as they do you no favors leaving all grass clippings behind. read more

Highland Park reflects the worst course management in the region. While the Metroparks' courses are gems, Highland is an embarrassment to the city and region. Sprinklers are left unattended flooding greens and fairways. Still other fairways haven't scene water in weeks and are rock dry. The greens are in horrible condition and the tee boxes reflect neglect and incompetence. It's a mystery to me why the incompetence is tolerated. Every other public course in the region is in great shape. Only Highland seems to feel its primary mission is to give the geese a landing pad to crap everywhere. I hope some day Metroparks will take over at least one of the courses. read more

The course is in abysmal condition. The fairways have heaps of dead grass on them. The rough is littered with dandelions and weeds. Just kiss your ball goodbye if it lands in the rough. It looked like it hasn't been cut in two weeks. The pace of play was very slow. No doubt because of the course conditions. Please stay away. I'll never go back again. read more
