This salon is definitely a hidden treasure in Killeen! I found Highlights Salon & Spa unexpectedly while looking for hair places around the area. I checked their website and immediately found an availability for a haircut appointment and booked it with Roxanne. Roxanne has 10 years of experience with doing bob cuts (as said in her profile on the website), and this was a perfect match for me since the haircut I wanted was a soft-blunt bob cut. Roxanne is amazing and so sweet. She made me feel at ease during my appointment as this was the first time I was cutting my hair short in a very long time. During the cutting process, she would check in with me and ask if the length of my hair was where I wanted it to be, which I appreciated as not many hairdressers I had in the past did this. She made me feel so comfortable and well-cared for during this visit. I cannot recommend her enough if you're looking for a bob cut or any haircuts in general. She will definitely give you the transformation you've been looking for! For anyone curious, I have dark, straight, and thick hair. Roxanne did such a great job that the shorter pieces in the back of my hair doesn't flare out, when it typically does when I cut my hair short. She definitely knows what she's doing! I went in for a balayage, when I left I was happy with the service until I got home and realized the stylist gave me ordinarily highlights instead of what I asked for. I gave her a $20 for tip, her price was high but it's expected with good service. She charged me $179 for some basic old school highlights. Although I got old school highlights instead of new school balayage the stylist was sweet and very attentive. read more

Called for a haircut appointment and the woman on the phone was very friendly and accommodating so I was very hopeful it would be a great place. I get there and tell the stylist that I want to go short with long layers, my hair was to the middle of my back and I cut about 5 inches or so. I know my hair so I need the layers or it'll be too thick, she said she understood. When I got home I realized it was not even, at all. The left side was quite a bit longer, the layers were really short, when not styled it's so frizzy! I called my regular salon in Georgetown and they fixed it, the only reason I didn't initially go there was because they were booked. Won't be making that mistake again. read more

After multiple consultations my wife goes here and pays a very high price to get a balayage done in her hair while keeping her natural roots. After a long 4 hours of getting this done and showing the stylist multiple times reference photos the end result was nothing close to the requested style. I call the salon and ask if anything could be done to fix the mistake made but the stylist only gives me two options. Either wait a crazy amount of time to get a full refund and put back her natural color or only get less than half of my money back and she will do nothing to fix it. Obviously I don't want to force my wife to walk around with the hair she hates so we take the half deal. But this is beyond absurd. If you are performing a service please do it correct or atleast give the customer their money back. Even on the phone the stylist gave me plenty of attitude and was very rude saying things like "I don't work for free" If you plan on coming here,don't. It's as simple as that,the contractors here will screw you over and won't accept that they didn't do what they were payed very well to do. Julie Cole is not only the owner, my hair dresser, but is also a friend! She is fabulous and has done my hair for over 15 years! (The other stylists are also very good.) The salon is clean, relaxing and affordable. I pretty much give her free reign on my partial highlights ranging from blond to caramel, depending on the season. :) Shasta, their masseuse, is also very talented. I only get the Swedish massage every once in a while, but it is so relaxing! read more

Sadly I can't recommend this salon. I hadn't gotten my hair done in over a year. My birthday is coming up and my friend will be visiting so I was excited to finally have it done. I was literally so excited for this appointment that I could hardly sleep the night before and now I'm just incredibly disappointed and sad. The photo on the left is what I asked for and right is how I left. While discussing beforehand, I said my main "want" was to get the dark base color. The appointment lasted 5 1/2 hours which is way longer than any hair appointment I've ever had. My husband took off work to watch our kids and instead of missing a few hours, he missed all day. Total was over $400 with tip (20%.) The price wouldn't bother me if I received what I wanted. I'm not sure how customer would service would be if I had expressed my concerns. I have anxiety about looking in the mirror at myself with others around so I usually glance, say I like it, then wait until I get home to actually look at it. 2 stars instead of 1 because my stylist was very nice and friendly. read more

Let me start off by saying I have been going to Highlights for over a year and a half now. Why? Because the have always done great color and treated me well. I typically do not like to give bad reviews and usually choose to only review places I really like (I like to keep the good karma flowing). However, I just cannot let my past experience go without commenting. I went in this past week and got my usual partial highlight and cut. Everything seemed fine although I was charged $5 more than usual - I felt weird questioning it so just went ahead and paid. Now comes the bad part... While the color of my hair is good, the placement of my highlights is not. My partial highlight doesn't even extend to my crown. When my hair is parted, the crown looks AWFUL. What I don't understand is how I am a regular who has been getting the same color done for a while now, yet this time my hair took over 3 hours to complete and the highlights are literally only on the top of my head? It is my understanding a partial highlight should extend from the top of the ear around to the other ear. It appears I will be finding a new hairstylist very soon. I will miss how nice she was, however. read more

Due to circumstances, I could not do a spa day, but the salon let me use my certificate for cut, color, and a pedicure. Very accomodating! Mary-Christina Sifuentes was my stylist. Don't let her young face fool you, this girl knows how to do hair! The cut was perfect and my full head of highlights looks amazing. Today was my second visit to Highlights but this time I got a 60 minute Swedish massage (the first time I got a haircut). And it was another amazing experience! Shasta is very professional, made me feel very comfortable, and she allowed me to customize the pressure. The environment of the massage area is super relaxing, clean, and comfy. My massage was only $65 plus tip which is a lot less expensive than the other massages I've gotten at other spas and it was a wonderful experience well worth my money. I left a message to schedule an appointment since I was out and about and they called me back as soon as they opened, which is a huge plus! I met with Arianna. I hadn't cut my hair in almost 3 years because of multiple bad experiences and extremely botched jobs so I was a little nervous. But before she even put the apron thing on me, she asked me what I wanted and made suggestions of her own. Another plus! She was very friendly, but not overly talkative. Another plus! And when she was done, she asked me how I would be wearing my hair and gave me tips on how to maintain it no matter how I decided to style it. She even showed me so I wasn't confused. Huge plus.
