My friends and I tried High Tops in Timonium for the first time yesterday, and the experience was extremely disappointing -- not because of the server, who was excellent, but because of the manager. I ordered the Alfredo with salmon and my friend ordered the chicken Alfredo. We were excited to try a new spot, especially after seeing the dish online. What came out was nothing like what was advertised. The Alfredo was soupy, oily, and had zero presentation. I took one bite, and my friend didn't touch his at all. I let our server know, and he handled it professionally. When the manager, Missy, came over, the tone immediately shifted. Before I could finish explaining the issue, she cut me off to say she "normally doesn't take anything off the bill but will this time." Her tone and attitude were unnecessary, especially considering I was calm and respectful. I tried to explain that both dishes were inedible, and she cut me off again to say she could only remove one. I told her we didn't even want a refund -- we were willing to switch dishes -- but she then told us the kitchen was closed. My friend let it go, but the dismissiveness was noted. When the revised bill came, the math didn't add up. The Alfredo I ordered was $30 with salmon, yet the difference was only about $4. I checked the receipt and saw she added an 18% gratuity -- nearly $30 -- even though our original receipt was printed at 8:17pm and we received our food well before that. When I pointed this out, she claimed the invoice was "reprinted" and she "had to add it." That was not true based on the timestamps. She then told me she would remove it but made a point to say the server deserved a tip. I let her know that wasn't a concern -- he was the only person who provided good service. The entire interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. We were the only Black group in the restaurant, and although the server and another employee were also Black, the manager's assumptions and tone made it clear she thought we were trying to get something for free -- which was never the case. The issue was the food, not the pricing, and definitely not the server. We were excited to find a new hangout spot, but after this experience, we won't be returning. read more

This sports bar is very similar to others in the area. Packed on game days, but they do have a ton of TVs. I got a Sierra Nevada beer and the crab dip. The beer was good but the crab dip was lacking flavor. However, if you do get the crab dip it is a hefty serving size. I won't be rushing back here. read more

If you're looking for a laidback bar vibe, Hightops is the perfect place to gather with friends or grab a quick meal with the family. There are tons of seating options regardless of the season. Their outdoor section is so fun in the warmer months. During the colder months, they do such a good job creating a cozy warm atmosphere with a fireplace. We went last night with friends and sat outside. There was live music which was fun! Around 9, a DJ came out and they cleared part of the floor for people to dance. Wasn't expecting that but the staff were really nice when they asked us to move. The food was good! Ordered their crap dip pretzel as an app and burgers and a wrap for the main meals. Stopped by Hightopps on a Sunday for lunch, and it was pretty busy. We were seated on the lower level, where the lighting wasn't great--even during the day. I was torn between the wings and a salmon BLT, and the server recommended the wings. I went with the honey Old Bay wings and fries, but they were just okay--I've had better and probably wouldn't order them again. The bay fries are sooooo good, and I usually get the salmon BLT while my bf always gets the crabby smash burger. Portions are super filling, the Cajun pasta is also really good! Came on over to high tops after an event at the fairgrounds. They have a huge lot with plenty of parking. It was walking distance from the fairgrounds and the lot is actually shared with them. The outdoor patio was closed since it was chilly and raining. Inside wasn't super crowded. Most people were at the bar area. I have been here many times before mistily when I went to school in the area. Got a seat at a high table in the bar area. Waitress was nice hard to make our order. We had the wings with mild flavor. This was my first time at Hightopps and I visited with a friend who had been here several times years ago. She mentioned that they had done several renovations since she had last been. They also had a nice outdoor patio area that unfortunately, we were unable to get to since the weather was awful. We sat at the bar area and the restaurant was not too packed around 5. It did have some larger parties coming in throughout the night. We were greeted right away as soon as we sat down. There were several bartenders who kept checking in on us to make sure everything was good. We ordered the crab pretzel, fries, nachos, and fried pickles. The food was sub par with none of the dishes really standing out. The menu just has your typical fare. I do appreciate that they offer smaller sizes. I love pickles, but it was way too thick for the fried pickles. The crab dip was spread so thin on the pretzel. The nachos were ok with some of the chips already soggy when it came out not to mention the huge piece of ripped lettuce. If I could give it zero stars, I would. This was the absolute worst lunch expereince and service I have ever seen. Let's start with the positives: The parking spot was close to the door Negatives: 1. Three wait staff for the entire patio. 2. The waitress takes our order but leaves in the middle of it to help place meals at another table. 3. The wrong food keeps being delivered to the table, including insisting that I did not know what any of the four kids had. This happened twice. Do you write down a table number? Do not know the table numbers? 4. The food comes out, first meal, wrong (kitchen fault for not making it grilled chicken vs. crispy (it happens), but she forgets two kids' meals. 5. Ask where said kid's meals are, "oh, they are coming." 6. Ask again, same response 7. Realizes the kid's meals are not coming and puts in a new ticket for the food. No, I am sorry, no, let's get a rush on this, general lack of giving a darn 8. The manager comes over, makes excuse after excuse, like the owner is in Aruba, we are understaffed, but the whole time was saying there are no excuses for this bad service. Met some friends here from Maryland and they have been coming here since it was a wooden dive bar.....those were the days because it's not the case anymore. First impression this place is huge! Different levels, different bars, dining inside and outside TV's throughout it's so big that you don't feel like you are crowded despite a full parking lot. I can imagine how busy this place gets on game days. Staff was plentiful and nice throughout. Now the FOOD we started with Jumbo crab pretzels topped with the crab dip and Jack cheese OMG fantastic, a guilty pleasure I even could see myself hiding in a dark alley eating them out of a paper bag. Friends wanted the fried pickles and I'm not a pickle person but they enjoyed it. ENTREES I had the crab cake sandwich and it was fantastic! Nice size and flavor and the fries were very good! My partner had the salmon club and he loved the jalapeño bacon but didn't like it paired with the cilantro mayo...overall he liked it. Great place! UPDATE 9/6/21-I'm assuming they were short staffed. We sat at the high top bar tables and no one came to say they would be over or they were running slow. We sat for at least 20 minutes where workers were putting down umbrellas, shutting off fans, etc. but did not even acknowledge our presence. This was around 8pm. I am hesitant and sad that I won't rush to come back now after that experience. I am understanding, but they should at least let people know and take a drink order. Wow, this place is huge! I cant wait to visit when the weather gets warmer. There's multiple bars and dining areas. This is a laid back place and the servers were super friendly. Great drinks and good bar food. Nothing fancy. I had both the Lemon Crush and Grapefruit Crush. There was just enough alcohol. For an appetizer, my table ordered the steamed shrimp which were what you'd expect from steamed shrimp. I chose the Crabby Melt as an entree. It comes on an English Muffin. I was really surprised by the amount of lump crabmeat. I enjoyed the Crabby Melt, but I will say it needs more flavor. They are taking few COVID-19 precautions. Loss of power sent us looking for a place to eat and perhaps with some A/C. We found the place to eat but unfortunately no indoor seating on a Friday afternoon so we were out in the heat. That being said, this was a very nice place to have lunch and spend time with family. Our waitress Brooke should be singled out as awesome! After yesterday's server at another place I won't mention, we needed someone who was at the top of her game. She provided the attention to presentation, checking on beverages, and always about the food to make sure we were happy and satisfied. So now to the food. Children had Mac and Cheese and Cheese Pizza respectively. Thumbs up! Kids happy and parents are happy. They also had tater tots and what can you say other than they were crispy and not mushy. Adults had Jalapeño burger, Calamari, pulled pork, and a shrimp chicken salad. The only thing we had that wasn't good were the old bay potato chips and Fries. Sorry but aside from kids getting tater tots, the chips and fries were a disappointment. So why 4 not 5? Although portions were outstanding, service outstanding, food quality was only good. The drinks excellent, and price as expected. No indoor seating really is why I am giving a 4. The fries and chips are probably liked by most but I don't care for the seasoning. Came here as a group of 5 on 5/25/2022. When we asked for a table, we were told that they could not accommodate a table for 5, but they would add a chair to a 4 person table and we could "squeeze in." We asked if they could push 2 tables together to make it more spacious. Initially they said that they couldn't accommodate that request, but ultimately they did put 2 tables together for us. Initially the waitress came over quickly and took our drink orders. After our food came, we barely saw her. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes each time we wanted another drink, and at one point we had to just go up to the bar and get it ourselves. I ordered the Parmesan wings and the crab burger with no bun. The burger patty was definitely a frozen patty. The crab dip was good. The wings were crispy outside, but they had an odd texture inside and no flavor. My friend got the nachos and there was so much lettuce on top that it looked like a salad. The chicken on the nachos was also flavorless and dry. Giving them an extra star for the ambiance, the white claw Wednesday deal, and the open mic night. But aside from that, the food was mediocre at best and the service was not great. For the amount of money they charge, I expected better. read more

We said we needed a few minutes. He came back with water and never returned to our table even though he was in the same area running drinks and food. We sat for 30 minutes before deciding to leave. Bathroom outside by the bar was disgusting. I acknowledge that is more because of customers rather than the establishment.
