I guess we got the trifecta today. First, we were seated in the outdoor space where the heaters must've been 500 degrees. It literally felt like purgatory -couldn't stay there. Once we relocated to another table, no one came over. I had to get up out of my seat and go look for someone after at least 10 minutes plus to find out why no one came over took our drink order or anything else. Then the third thing was the soup wasn't hot. We sent it back to be heated . The place is mid if you ask me . I don't get why it's so crowded all the time, people must just be used to substandard. read more

This is a very good spot for lunch or dinner. From the moment we walked in, I noticed the decor and the sound (a quiet spot). They had tasteful holiday decorations. Great spaces for private parties. Our server was lovely. She checked in us a lot which can be annoying at times but it's her job. She clearly took it seriously. Now the food. I had the fish and chips. It was very well prepared and presented beautifully. The taste of the fish was a little lacking. I loved the CRUNCH but it was not seasoned very well. I would definitely go again though. The food was bomb 10/10. We started with old bay wings a Maryland must have. Followed by the crab dip which was the best we ever tasted; however, we needed more garlic toast to consume it all. The brisket hash -- tasty with whole slices of meat on top of home fried potatoes and topped with made to order scrambled eggs. The classic burger was just that with juicy yumminess. The shrimp and grits were giving tender plump shrimp with a whole lot of grits. We finished the meal with a slice of Smith Island cake -- layered with decadent chocolate. Stopped in for a quick dinner and had a fantastic meal in their bar seating. The crab cake had good flavor and not a ton of filler (so a respectable MD crab cake) but it felt a bit modest in size by comparison to some of the heavy hitters I'm used to locally. I had dinner at Michael's Cafe last week with two friends after work. One of my friends picked it; she said she'd been before and really enjoyed it. She is a picky eater and between the fact that this picky eater had picked it for dinner and its name (Michael's Cafe just sounds like a strip mall spot that would make wraps to me?!), I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is beautiful (modern, cool, but totally appropriate for its cuisine/theme), and the menu really interested me. It's definitely full Chesapeake Bay - oysters, crab cakes, three kinds of crab soup, crab imperial, etc. But the menu had a ton to choose from - something for every taste/palate without anything on the menu seeming out of place. A friend I was eating with wanted to share some plates, so we shared: tuna tartare (raw tuna, avocado, cucumber, scallion, soy-ginger vinaigrette, sriracha aioli, and tortilla chips); the Greek salad; and the cauliflower bites (crispy fried cauliflower marinated in buffalo sauce, bleu cheese, scallions, and celery). The three of us also shared a side of their fried Brussels (gold fever, bleu cheese dressing, bleu cheese crumbles, and scallions). My picky eating friend got a bleu cheese burger. Two of us had their Super Filthy Martini (vodka, vermouth, olive juice, and bleu cheese olives). See a theme here? We really bleu cheese-d it up. I loved the Brussels (and I often find that dish boring), tuna tartare, my friend's burger (I tried it - yum), and the martini. The Greek salad was fine (standard and a good version). For me, the least successful thing we ordered was the cauliflower bites (instead of being marinated in buffalo sauce, they seemed to have a thin drizzle of buffalo sauce on top, which means they ended up being quite bland except for the bleu cheese sauce), but even those weren't bad (they were well-fried, just not as flavorful as I had hoped based on the Brussels. The service was good, and the restaurant was just comfortable. I enjoyed the meal so much more than I was expecting to! Successful Friday happy hour!! Michael's is pretty decent size restaurant--one side seems a bit more casual than the other side. We sat at the bar for happy hour and the bartenders were friendly and attentive. I was able to sub out the ginger beer for sprite for my Moscow mule (I know ginger beer is the whole point butttt sometimes it's too much) and I'm glad the bartenders accommodated me and allowed it. We ordered deviled egg flight, bang bang tacos, buffalo tenders, fries and cream of crab soup. Everything was delicious and I felt stuffed leaving. I would definitely return. read more

We went back to Michael's in Timonium, and once again it did not disappoint. This time we caught the evening vibe, and it was on point. I ordered the short rib with mashed potatoes and green beans--amazing. We also had the walnut and blue cheese salad and the chicken wings, which were banging. I was full before my main course even came out lol. But what really made the night was our bartender, Shekirah (sorry if I spelled it wrong!). Her personality, attention to detail, and the way she genuinely cared about the service she provided took everything to another level. She made the best drinks and brought great energy the whole night. This is officially one of my go-to spots now. I've been a frequent customer at Michael's Cafe for years and have always spoken highly of this restaurant. I've even created content showing my love for it. My partner and I come here often, celebrate birthdays here, and recommend it to other people regularly, which makes this experience even more disappointing. We ordered cream of crab soup, two New York strip steaks, buffalo wings, mashed potatoes, broccolini, and Acqua Panna water. Something was clearly off with the food ....whether the steaks were old or the grease used was old, I'm not sure, but both of us became extremely ill afterward. I should've taken the steak back the first time it wasn't cooked properly and I sent it back to the gym for proper preparation. I was up around 3:45 AM dealing with diarrhea for hours and vomiting, and my partner also became sick as well. I contacted the restaurant hoping for concern and professionalism, but the interaction was frustrating. He said he'd call back because he had to discuss with a more experienced manager. Once he called back, I believe the manager's name was Justin, and he stated a partial refund was "all he was allowed to authorize." He told us the chef only authorized a 50 percent refund I didn't know chefs had anything to do with refunds ‍ I understand mistakes can happen, but the lack of empathy and urgency considering two loyal customers became sick was disappointing. As people who genuinely supported and promoted this restaurant for years, this experience left a really bad impression. When I walked in, I was greeted with lots of holiday decorations, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch and made the experience even more romantic since it was Valentine's Day. I visited here for the first time on yesterday for dinner. There is onsite parking which is convenient. The waiter was kind and showed us good service. There were many good options on the menu. I ordered the single crab cake dish that came with fries and cole slaw. We received our food in a reasonable amount of time after ordering and I enjoyed the meal. We were sitting in a booth in the bar area. I like the way the wall space was used in that area. It created a nice, chill vibe. There were lots of TVs showing all of the sport games. OMG!!! The smoked gouda creamed spinach and truffle mac & cheese was SOOOOO GOOOD!! This is my second time here and the first time I think I only had the bar food as we were outside. This time we dined in for lunch and I got to experience the full menu. I ordered a burger which was good also but I couldn't get over how good the sides of spinach & mac were for just $6. In this 2025 economy those prices were perfect I will definitely be back. They were in the middle of some minor esthetic repairs out back but it did not interfere with the service. I had to handle business in the Towson area, so I decided to swing by Michaels for lunch since I had a good experience the first time I was here. I ordered a couple of lemon drop martinis, which were definitely on point, before ordering the braised short rib meal... which came with garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, and crispy onions on top. I also had an order of shrimp cocktail. Did bar seating which allowed me to enjoy the wonder & quick service of Olivia. She was energetic, friendly & had perfect timing. Most importantly, he drinks were right right. My braised short rib came out nice and hot. I have no complaints. The shrimp were a good size and came out pretty chill. I compare all shrimp to Loch Bar shrimp, because they're always perfect. Michaels' shrimp were that top notch, but def doable. Nice & clean restaurant... Tons of people socializing in the bar area which is always pleasant. Never have a problem with friendly chatter or networking. T.V.s!!!!!!!!!! Thursday late lunch (4:00 PM) at the side bar. Not too crowded or noisy. Service was a bit odd. Was it his sense of humor? In any event it was off putting. The meals were good. My wife ordered the rockfish Nicholas and I went with the shrimp and grits. Her dish contained half a dozen lemon seeds (not good) but the fish was expertly done. The shrimp and grits was tasty, although not done in what I would consider a traditional method. It was thicker than I like and gained its heat from candied jalapeño bacon. The corn kernels added a surprise sweetness. As I said, it was good. It was different. The happy hour fried cauliflower appetizer with buffalo sauce was terrific. read more

Went here for brunch and everything was amazing! The chicken and waffles was a pleasant surprise, as it was much better than your standard chicken and waffles. The chicken had a corn flake crust, and the waffle was crispy on the edges and soft and fluffy in the middle. It comes with a whipped pecan butter and maple syrup on top. SO good. Probably the best chicken and waffles I've had! Loved its unique flavor. My dad had the crab cake benny with home fries and he loved it. We also had the espresso old fashioned; it was made very well with a great balance of espresso and whiskey. Our waiter was super friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was great. I arrived at my reservation time to the front entrance where a sign greeted me at the host stand instructing me to walk all the way around to the back host stand, even though a woman was standing at the front stand not saying a word. I made my way to the back of the restaurant to again be ignored at that stand. Major DeJa'Vu here - this seems to be how they operate. A hostess was there, organizing menus or something. Ignoring me. Then a server approached and they chatted. I said excuse me I have a reservation. I was then seated in the restaurant area at a table with crumbs all over the booth seat. I cleaned it myself before my party arrived. Thomas C was our server. He was nice enough to do separate checks for six of us which I appreciated. When one of my guests exclaimed they no longer care for this restaurant it started a chain reaction of the same sentiment for all six people. I admitted I had hesitated with this reservation because I just can't seem to get excited about this place lately. The prices have gone up, the restaurant is extremely loud, the servers and hosts are not the friendliest and the vibe is just not what I'm into anymore. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich which was good, along with the parmesan fries. They weren't hot, but I didn't bring it to Thomas' attention even when one of my party told him their sweet potato fries were cold. I was impressed when a manager quickly approached and brought my friend an extra plate of hot fries. That gets five stars here - they immediately made it right. Upon finishing our entrees and libations we declared this our Last Supper at Michael's Cafe. With so many classy and tasty restaurants in the area, we have more to choose from when we want a nice affordable delicious meal that will offer excellent customer service and clean booths. read more

They got me. I received a "Happy Birthday!" mailer from a marketing group partnering with Michael's offering $25 off a meal as long as we met the two entree minimum. It expired 8/31 and I wanted to use it while it was still good. $25 is 25 bucks, right? A friend and I sat in the back bar to avoid the noise of the main bar and dining room. We were seated at the Michael Jordan booth. The bartender was also our server. She was professional, courteous and very efficient! We perused the menu. So many offerings made for challenging decisions! After much deliberation, we decided on the following: Starter: Fried Green Tomatoes topped with lump crab meat in a bed of and drizzled with lemon beurre sauce. Friends main event: A salad with a nice blend of greens accompanied by numerous shrimp. I ordered the Rockfish Nicholas - A rockfish filet topped with lump crab meat resting on a mound of basmati rice in a bed of that wonderful lemon beurre sauce. The food came out quickly, plating and presentation beautiful and, as expected, very tasty. We were both extremely pleased with our selections. Dessert? Get behind me, you Satan! We caved into their Crème Brûlée and Berger Cookie Sundae! The latter had chocolate and vanilla ice cream, two Berger cookies topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup!! Despite some ice chunks in the chocolate ice cream, this was a decadent treat. A chocoholic delight! A delightful lunch!! Check, before the discount, was a bit over a C note. I was blessed by my friend's generosity as she picked up the tab for my belated birthday celebration and reaching the half way point with some medical treatment. Michael's isn't one of my go-to's, but make no mistake - this is elevated dining. And looking at the price points, I may be able to slip in for some of their pub grub which is competitively priced (their entire menu is as well). read more

Made last minute reservations for the dining room on a Friday night for a date night. We ended up being seated in the bar but it was no biggie. It took a while for our server to come take our drink orders but after that, she was great and very attentive. We started off with the crab dip which was delicious. For entrees we ordered the lobstah roll with chips, New York strip, and a side of truffle fries. My bf raved over the lobster roll and the butter sauce that came with it. I kept munching on the homemade kettle chips and ended up taking half of them home. My steak was good but tbh I was expecting a little more out of it due to the price. The menu didn't list that the steak came with sides so I was pleasantly surprised to see it was served with a salad and potatoes. The truffle fries had good flavor but were cold by the time they got to our table so that was a bummer. We finished our night with one scoop of the taharka brothers honey graham ice cream and a brookie. Both were phenomenal- I would come here just for dessert. I ate here the other evening as one of the spots I wanted to try for my birthday. Overall, I had a really good experience. Brenden, our server was very attentive with an extremely nice demeanor. Meal- I am a "soup" girl and must have a bowl each time I dine out. As of late, my go to soup has been a half/half of cream of crab and Maryland crab. I must say Michael's did not disappoint. Every spoonful consisted of flavorful crabmeat. My entree consisted of 5 huge seared scallops on top of risotto and spinach with a cream sauce. This meal was so filling that I had no room for desert. My usual classic margarita with a sugar rim was made to perfection and poured into a nice sized glass. One last thing, the butter for the bread was whipped and had a sweet flavor, loved it! Now the ambiance, it was crowded, from the parking lot to the restaurant but what do you expect when the food and service is good? My mom and I were seated in a room where a party of 15 would soon be arriving. Another couple were seated in this area and everything was fine until the group arrived. It became extremely loud and I as well as the other couple struggled with having a conversation with the person we were seated with. We noticed how the teenage girls were walking on the chair to get through as opposed to simply saying "excuse me" to family. It was disturbing to see. The other couple and I locked eyes when we saw what was taking place. The other couple subsequently paid their bill and left. My mother, who originally thought about getting dessert, wanted to leave too. I'm sure having these two extra tables in an area which is primarily for large parties was Michael's way of accommodating everyone but for me, this was a thumbs down. We loved our lunch here. Michael's deserves to be crazy busy, and surprisingly was not for a rainy Friday lunch. Everything was superb - the food, the service and the atmosphere. I had the blackened chicken sandwich on special and my tablemate had the Baltimore Hot Chicken. Both were superb, as were the fries my sandwich came with. We'll definitely be back. A word about the menu: do bring your shekels. Michael's is steadfastly intent on making the $15 (or less) lunch a thing of the past. Our bill, which included one soft drink, totaled well into the $40s, pre-tip. A word about the parking lot: ingress and egress is challenging for the rear parking lot. The secret saucse entails accessing from Timonium Road, a few hundred feet each of the traffic light. Turns into and out of the York Road apron are tough from the north, or headed south after. read more

This was my first time having dinner at Michael's. I had a Birthday Certificate so went tonight with Hubby. I ordered the rockfish it came with rice a some crabmeat on top. Hubby ordered the crab and ribs. The food was good and we had a great server. I will say finding the area to be seated was a bit confusing , you have to walk past the bar and go through the double doors to get to the hostess area . This was a nice surprisingly quiet atmosphere. Service was quick and friendly. Came here during the lunch hours for a friends birthday so the brunch menu was what I had to choose from. There was a few items that I had my eye on. Breakfast and lunch items but didn't feel like combining certain foods lol. I decided on the cereal French toast. It was pretty good and definitely sweet. This place is amazing. A buddy and I needed lunch. Desperately. Found Michael's on the map and went. From the outside we could immediately tell that this is not just a random low-key lunch place. First, it's huge. Then there are two parking lots, meaning a lot of customers. And inside it's just really really nice. We sat in the indoor patio area. Per Megan, our fantastic bartender, this area is new as of just a year or two ago. Huge selection of foods from basic sandwiches to high end steaks to a raw bar. We just got sandwiches, cuz lunch, but we were really thinking about the higher-end fare. Very happy that we found Michael's. When we need lunch in the area again we'll definitely return. This is the second location not Michael's cafe that I have tried. And it is by no means second. I did an early Sunday morning because they were featuring the Ravens in London game that was ealr morning (9:30 am). When we first got there they were in disarray because the manager had gotten into an accident en route. But they pulled it together and operated as a well-polished team. The ambiance was great. Nice decor and well well-kept and well-cleaned restaurant and bar. There were plenty of screens so that you could see the game from every angle. The steak and eggs were well cooked.the steak was very tender. The eggs were scrambled and topped with cheese. Very tasty. The breakfast potatoes were well seasoned and had a great flavor. But they were cold. The pancakes were plate sized and had a great flavor. It needs to come with more syrup though . That was a lot of pancakes. The eggs over easy should have been ordered over medium or over hard. The bacon was perfect. The piece de resistance was the grits. They were piping hot, perfect texture, and were smothered with grade-A cheese. We also ordered an Irish coffee and a coffee with Baileys. Both were good. The coffee was very good.
