I have been to Hilary twice for haircuts, and each time has been less satisfying. Oh, she cut my hair in the style I wanted, and she was very friendly and personable, but both times, toward the end of the haircut, her friend came in and sat down to wait and chat. I felt rushed and felt that Hilary was distracted and in a hurry to get out of there. Maybe I'm strange, but when I'm paying someone to do my hair, I want their full attention. Also, both times when she thought she was done, I still felt that my hair was too long in front of my face/eyes. The first time I got her to adjust it before I left, but it sort of ended up ruining the shape of the cut and I was not happy about that, but at least I could see out from under my bangs. This last time, I had the same problem. Recalling what had happened before, we decided not to take too much more off and she told me to go home, style it as usual, and if it still bothered me in a couple of days to give her a call and she would fix it for me. Well, it did and I did (call her--left a voice mail) and guess what? It''s been a week now and she still hasn't called me back. Somehow I'm really not surprised. 5+++++ I purchased a Living Social deal and this is the second time I have struck absolute GOLD with a stylist. I can hardly believe it. Hillary is outrageously talented and she knows what works and how to create beauty with whatever you have. I have this thick mop of dry, sort of curly-sort of not hair. It is a nightmare for so many hairdressers (I know... I hear it all the time). Not from Hillary. She asked what I wanted and then pointed out what was and wasn't working and how she could remedy that. I didn't have a whole lot of expectations really. I just wanted a trim and shape up. OH.MY.GOODNESS!! She is cute, interesting, friendly, personable, tactful... and I don't even enjoy talking to stylists that much!! I really did like talking to her (and my last review regarding another stylist - she was awesome too!!? Maybe I'm changing? NO... these ladies are different!! She's taken me from the mousy blah grown out bob I had when we first met, to sleek layers, all types of bangs, to red, to blonde, back to brunette, and now a beautiful trendy ombre. It is really rare to find a stylist that is just as talented with color, cuts, and styling. My hair always looks fresh and up to date, yet perfectly suited to my style. Hilary is extremely friendly and has a lot of knowledge about how to cut hair. I went in with a vague idea of knowing that I just wanted my hair cut short (like above shoulder length). However, since I have a round face shape, she told me about how cutting it too short may be too dramatic for me, but she still honored my request of cutting my hair short. It was better than what I could've imagined for myself and now I love my new short hair! Definitely would recommend her to anyone! I went to Hilary for the first time on Sunday and after 3 hours of color, cut, and style the shade wasn't what either of us had in mind. She invited me back that following Wednesday for a retry in Toner and A blowout prior to my trip the next day. She stayed late to do it and was so gracious and amazing through both processes. I found it odd that there was no receptionist that called or emailed me prior to my appointment to remind me of my appt. I had an hour and 1/2 drive. I never give negative reviews but my experience with Hillary was horrible. She complained about her boyfriend the whole time I was there, I couldn't find the salon, but other than that first appointment was ok. I couldn't make it to an appointment due to a business meeting and when I tried to reschedule she said that I wasn't allowed to come back and her appointment book was full even though other reviewers states she made quick schedule changes wtih them, that was not the case with myself. The salon is foxy mermaid but it is hard to find, I referred my mom's best friend to her and she disliked her hair because her bangs were uneven. The salon is hard to find, there is no receptionist, and the customer service was horrible. read more

Unfortunately, Hilary does not know how to cut short hair. She tried to give me an asymmetrical look and cut a patch of hair toward the back of my head so ridiculously short (1/2" or less - no joke) that I can't do anything w/ it. When I style it, it looks like I have a patch of missing or matted down hair. That's not even stylish or funky for "keep Austin weird!" She spent a fair amount of time talking about her personal life, such that she couldn't possibly focus 100% on giving me a good cut. Thankfully I only paid $22 for the Living Social coupon - and got what I paid for - and would never pay the full price of $60 for a shoddy cut like that. I will be a first and last-time customer. First impressions speak volumes and will make or break a business. Does anyone in Austin know how to cut short hair? I've had so many bad experiences and they all want $50-60+. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to cut hair. I don't know how many times I've said, "worst cut I've ever had." Well, this is just another one to add to the list. I now cringe whenever I get my hair cut b/c of how many times I've walked away w/ it all jacked up. I never understood paying much for a haircut. I went to expensive places, I went to cheap places. After some expensive places, I came home and cut it again myself. A few times I found "THE" place to go and paid an arm and a leg for a haircut and found it to be the same. Why not go to one of those cheap places, then? But I went here on a whim ( and a groupon) and wow, what a difference. I love my hair. It really looks good. She really does care.
