I am not usually one to leave negative reviews, but after getting a second opinion and looking deeper into other low star Google reviews, I feel that it's important to share the tactics of this dental group. This place instills fear in patients with unethical money grab practices and pressuring patients for same day procedures. I came here after getting on a new insurance and could no longer go to my old dentist as he was out of network. Reviews were overall good for this place so I figured I'd give it a try. I was having no oral pain or discomfort, just knew I was overdue for a cleaning. I was told I had multiple cavities and stage 3 gum disease. The way I was told about the gum disease was extremely bizarre. After the examination, the dentist showed me a chart with the stages of gum disease and images for each. She asked me where I thought I fell on the chart. I guessed one of the lower options and she then decided to tell me I had stage 3 gum disease (on the higher end of the spectrum). I was so caught off guard by the approach and immediately felt extremely uncomfortable by the way that was shared with me. They pushed for me to get treatments same day but I knew I needed to GTFO. I got a second opinion from another dentist and he was shocked at the approach and alleged work I needed done/ disease diagnosis. My new dentist says I just need a good cleaning. I'm really glad I went with my gut and didn't let them pressure me into getting work done that day. Get a second opinion before consenting to any work! read more

Went in to have biannual teeth cleaning. The person at the front desk was friendly, welcoming and pleasant. I didn't have to wait long before I was called back. The procedure of cleaning and polishing my teeth by the Dental Hygienist went fine, except for the fact that she was bouncing back and forth between myself and another patient. This is because she's the only Dental Hygienist. So my appointment took a little longer. This is the only reason I am giving 4 starts instead of 5 stars. The Dentist came in and checked my teeth out and then I was on my way. I don't like going to the Dentist, but it's good self maintenance and hygiene. The waiting room and dentist room was nice and clean. So if you looking for a Dentist, give them a try. read more

Needed a cleaning and scheduled an appointment. My first appointment was rescheduled 2 days before it happened because of required training for the doctor. Was it an emergency? Then I came in for my rescheduled appointment at 8:30. Was taken back for X-rays at 9, saw the doctor and talked to the healthcare coordinator who explained my costs etc. everyone was very nice. But they then explained that they didn't have a hygienist available to do my cleaning for another hour. So I should take off 4 hours from work for a cleaning? Gtfo. I won't be back. My disabled mother went to appt told Dr 45 minutes late , my mom can't wait that long said she would come back . She came back only to be told they still hadn't got her referral and was told the endodontist was not a microendodontist although when my dad made the appt on the phone they said he was . I got regular teeth cleanings in San Antonio before moving to Austin and trying this place out. They told me I had 5 cavities and needed unnecessary work done. They filled a tooth and filed it down wrong so my whole bite was off. I had to pay to come back and fix it, and when I went to a different dentist, they told me it was such a big filling they should have put a crown on it since it was already cracking. My experience here has been positive. I have come here all year, dispute moving father away, I still drive here because the experience is worth it. To everyone who is complaining about being overcharged, that is not the same experience I have. The staff has gone over the charges with me each and every time I ask. Even the hygienist will go over the charges with me in the room during an exam, as well as the front desk folks. They have helped my teeth get 100% better. Well, it started out fine.......I met the dentist, Lisa Ochoa to have a crown put on. I had gone to another dental office two days before, and did a series of X-rays, and forwarded them to the office, so I would not have to go through that again. When I first met the dentist, I asked if she could just look at my X-rays, and see if there were any issues. Of course she said, patting me on the arm like she was a dear friend, complementing me on my appearance, (classic narcissist behavior). Her bio in the office says she believes that the relationship between herself and the patient should be an honest and special one. Ha! That never happened, in fact the dental assistant, who hopes to one day go to school to be a dentist, was doing most of the work. Anyway, the crown was just applied an hour ago, so we will see if Lisa is as good a dentist, (or should I say her assistant), as she is a narcissist. I would advise looking elsewhere for dental work, this place only sees dollar signs. Lots of negative reviews here, my bad for not looking for advice here in advance. read more

I would like to thank the team at Austin Modern Dentistry for my care and their expertise in giving me options going forward on my dental dilemma.  I was previously told elsewhere that I would need all my upper teeth pulled for dentures.  Then Dr. Ochoa stepped in and advised me that my uppers were still good, solid teeth, just ground down. Her suggestion was rehab, where crowns and bridges were glued permanently to my existing teeth. It was completed in only two visits and finished on September 25, 2024. The whole experience has been life changing. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I've had two crowns put in here and both had issues requiring multiple appointments, time off work, long pain. The dentist tried to blame me for these issues. First I had an infection from the first crown (after I witnessed staff fight and complain about lack of supplies this makes more sense) and the dentist refused to acknowledge the infection. My primary doctor did and gave an antibiotic. My crown issues went on for MONTHS of intense pain. My last visit, staff were bashing the dentist for hiding in her car when the place was super busy. The dentist blamed me not having a night guard for reason for my pain, even though she made me a mouth guard months before. We left our last appointment as she wanted to see my mouth guard to adjust it and to contact her in 2 days with an update on my pain. I called to make an appointment because still had pain and she cancelled my appointment unless I was willing to get another crown on the opposite side of my mouth. When I was last in, they left everyone's chart open. I read names, gender, birthdates and why patients were in. Two people were in before me that day for ongoing crown pain. Weird. Their online booking system doesn't work (since March of 23) and they know it. When you mention it to them they just acknowledge "oh yea it doesn't work" so that paints the picture of the customer service you get here. Super rude office manager. Very sales focused opposed to patient care. Can provide examples. I left a review on Google and they replied "please call us if you'd like to discuss" yet when I called the owner who supposedly posted that comment didn't want to talk to me.... I know multiple friends and coworkers who had terrible experiences here. Do yourself a favor and save your time, money, and avoid the pain they provide. Will never go again since they over bill you and will not go over the bill with you. I have called several times to meet with there billing department to no avail. I have personally gone over bill and they owe me money. When you go in they ask you to sign a statement that you are responsible for all their charges. The price for dental work they gave means nothing. My estimate for dental work was $2519 and I have made $2911 + Delta dental insurance $340 =$3251 total payments. They still are asking for another $1002 more with no explation of work preformed. Stay way! read more

I've been a patient hear for years. They have helped me so much getting my "grill" fixed. They use advanced technology and I thought it was fascinating they could "print" my new tooth the same day. I have my kids go here as well, and they have been honest about cavities. My kids have had no cavities, but concerns and real solutions about how to improve their oral health. I have been to other dental places where it feels cavities are for profit. The only compliant is there is a high-turn over in dentists. I have had many dentist at this location. The office staff has always been very professional, friendly, and helpful. They went through a period of time where appointment took awhile, but that has changed. My kids are fast in- and out. I wish I could give zero stars. Do not schedule here. They cancelled my appointment and notified me the DAY BEFORE that it was cancelled because it was booked incorrectly. When I called to reschedule I couldn't be seen for another 2 month when I had already been waiting 3 months for my appointment. I think it's shitty to notify someone their appointment has been cancelled a day before as if people don't have jobs and have to make arrangements to leave work for their appointments. Also, when I had an injury to the mouth and needed a root canal and veneer, instead of directing me to a cosmetic dentist they pocketed my money and did the procedure themselves and the veneer was not done properly. The dentist was extremely thorough which made me feel like someone was finally telling me the truth and being as clear as possible with my treatment plan. STAY AWAY. This place has often made me wait over 15-30 mins after my appointment time. I have patiently waited. I walked in exactly 10 mins past my appointment and they had already canceled at 7 mins past because this is when they left the voice-mail. I've had MANY issues here over the years in which dentists have told me many erroneous things before. One was that I couldn't get a dental implant for a particular tooth for reasons they listed (I did get it elsewhere), but I kept returning due to proximity to my house. So frustrated. I had an appointment in October for a check up and teeth cleaning. My regular dentist I've been going to since 2010 was closed due to Covid and I was desperate for a cleaning. The dentist came in saying my x-rays looked great (I've only had one minor cavity in my life) and then freaked out on my when she saw my gums. She practically screamed "YOU HAVE GUM DISEASE". Well, I was a bit frustrated as I have never had been told this in the past, I floss daily, especially since I had Invisalign and I had even tried to see a periodontist with my last dentist and they said it wasn't necessary because even though I had some recession, my gums were pretty healthy. I asked her if I could just get the cleaning and she said NO!! I was beyond a regular cleaning and I needed a $420 cleaning instead. I am on the lowest plan on my insurance (since I was always told my gums were healthy) and quite a ways off from my new plan year where I could upgrade to afford all these future costs. I lost my one of my jobs during Covid and this was a big expense for me. A big and UNECCESARY expense. The hygienist was so young, though very personable, but I certainly didn't feel like it was a deep clean. I feel like I was ripped off. What could I do...I didn't want to go more months without a cleaning. Today I went back to my regular dentist. A new one I hadn't seen before but she said I DO NOT have gum disease. Nor did anything in my history indicate I did. The hygienist reviewed multiple x-rays with me showing that my gums have stayed pretty stable through the years (she's been cleaning my teeth for five years now). While it was agreed that I should look into get a couple gum grafts, my gums are healthy and I take good care of them. I felt bad because I actually had called them in frustration that my previous dentist (now retired) didn't say I had gum disease. Why would he? I DON'T!!! I feel ripped off. I am about to have foot surgery and this was money I desperately need from my flexible spending to cover this future surgery. I was supposed to go back in January for some kind of four month follow up that my insurance wouldn't have covered but I just knew it didn't feel right and cancelled it. I just got all my records from them and told them to lose my number. The front desk staff were always so nice, but the dentist has a horrible bed side manner and clearly is just seeing dollar signs. Reception area is neat and organized. Very quick check-in. I was treated immediately and quickly went through my check up. Doc was thorough and engaging regarding my teeth and gum health. He explained in details the many options not just what he recommended. Also before deciding on treatment, my health insurance benefits and potential costs to myself were covered in detail. If I could do negative stars I would. The sad thing is the dentist is great, but the office and admin will make your life miserable. I went there for treatment and was quoted $501 after my insurance coverage. I paid that and a year later got another bill for $968 for the that service. It took multiple calls and meetings with them and my insurance to prove they overbilled me $532. Then while waiting for insurance to pay an additional portion the office lost the insurance payment. I've been calling for months and no one will call back. On top of that they billed my insurance for cleaning my teeth and that was never done. It is so poorly ran and no integrity to take care of their mistakes. My husband and I really liked the dentist, but it's not worth the bad billing and admin processes to risk being changed hundreds more a year later and spend 6 months fighting them to bill it accurately. I've even had to file grievances with my insurance to hold them somewhat accountable. read more

Only giving this place one star in hopes that the dentist here is more professional than the office staff. My insurance carrier gave me this facility's phone number and said it was an in-network facility. I may have an abscess tooth and am in a lot of pain. I have been waiting over a month for this appointment. The office staff has called me six times for my insurance information, which I provided to them each time. It is now five minutes before my scheduled appointment time and I received yet another call from them stating that they are an out of network facility, but can still come in and pay out of pocket. BEWARE. There are other reviews similar to mine that I wish I'd seen before booking an appointment. My regular dentist was booked for the month. I really needed a cleaning, so I scheduled one with Austin Modern Dentistry. I've always had great teeth and never had any issues. I'm 43 and I've NEVER had a cavity. The dentist at this office, Dr. Ochoa, came in and looked at my teeth for 30 seconds and said immediately that I had 4 CAVITIES. And that I was in need a deep cleaning. To make things even worse, they refused to do a regular cleaning, so I walked out WITHOUT getting my teeth cleaned. This was such a waste of my time. And very disappointing because that's why I made the appointment in the first place. When I got home, I made an appointment with my regular dentist. It turns out that I have 0 cavities and my mouth is in perfect shape. No fillings or deep cleaning needed. Austin Modern Dentistry wanted to charge me $536 (which was the estimate I was given upon leaving the office) for dental work that I didn't actually need. Very shady business. Absolutely do NOT go here. I have been going to an amazing dentist in Austin but unfortunately had to switch due to insurance. They told me I had Gingivitis when I had not even been warned of such a thing my last 4 years at my previous dentist. True reason for this was so they could try to convince me to come in for a deep clean every 3 months. The appointment took TWO hours and they tried to skip giving me a regular cleaning (which is the reason I came in the first place). This office was my default provider through a DHMO. I looked at reviews for places my insurance would cover, and thought this office sounded like one of the best, so I scheduled my intake appointment and a cleaning, which was easy. The first visit (March 2015) was quick for all the X-rays, cleaning, etc. The X-ray tech and hygienist were friendly and explained most of what they were doing. The dentist said my teeth looked great and that I didn't need anything done, not even the fluoride treatment many offices might try to up sell you on. I left feeling great. The second visit (October 2015) was quicker than the first because no intake or X-rays were needed. The hygienist did her work quickly and with care. The dentist was a different friendly woman, inspected my teeth (they looked good again), and left the fluoride decision up to me. I left happy a second time. I take good care of my teeth, and these professionals recognize that. I don't feel up sold or like they push any extra work. Scheduling three appointments (with reminder emails) has been easy. I have recommended this office to others, and will continue to. read more

Sharing my experience so that hopefully others can steer away- Austin Modern Dentistry is NOT LOCAL- it is a chain. I feel this is important information as they don't operate in a way a local place would- lots of sales tactics and pressure to get dental procedures done that you probably do not need!! I went in to see them about a gum recession and not only did they do a gum laser treatment that further damaged my gums, they tried to tell me I needed work on 4 teeth and quoted the procedure at a whopping $8000. The periodontist on site also told me if I didn't get the procedure done in the next month I would lose my teeth. When he was doing the exam, he literally felt my gums for like 2 seconds and was like YEP- you've got a BIG problem. I remember leaving and just crying because I didn't know what to do. I ended up seeing a privately practicing periodontist who told me I MAYBE needed work on one tooth, and later saw another dentist who told me I was fine and could just maintain cleaning to prevent further damage. The dentists and periodontists (don't remember his name) should be ASHAMED of themselves for working so hard to go through dental school to...scam people? Really? That is what you would like to contribute to this world? It's honestly disgusting and I WISH I would have more thoroughly read the reviews of this place before trusting them to care for my body. 0/10- stay AWAY from these scam artists. read more
