I needed "FINSHER 2009" embroidered on an Ironman jacket we purchased/ordered from a race in Idaho. It took 6 months to get that darn jacket from KSwiss and they didn't even get the order right! We wanted "FINISHER 2009" embroidered right under the words "Ironman Couer d'Alene", is that so tough? Not wanting to wait another 6 months to get it fixed I turned to Yelp to find an Embroiderer who could do the job. I thought it would be a good idea to fix the jacket as a "thoughtful" Christmas gift. That's where I found Hill Country. I'll be honest, if it weren't for Yelp,I would have never stepped foot here or given this place a chance upon 1st glance. The place is located on the east side of 35, across the street where the old Concordia Univ. used to be. Kind of a sketchy area. The place is old, the sign a bit beaten down looking, the work area inside unorganized and messy looking. However, I will say the nice owner took my picture of what I wanted and got the job done perfectly the next day. There seemed to be a couple of other customers dropping off and picking up items, each time I was there. They all seemed to be regulars who like to just shoot the shit with the owner. Overall, Hill Country got the job done, the way I wanted with quick turnaround. The way I see it, they were just nice good ol' friendly folk, so don't judge the place by the way it looks, they did a great job! read more

My company decided to have some trade show blazers made. We ordered some rather flashy blue peplum jackets from Target of all places, and set out to find an affordable embroiderer in Austin. Trusty Yelp showed me the way to RL at Hill Country. I have nothing but good things to say. RL took the jackets the day he got back from his Christmas/NY days off, kept me posted on their status, and when he had a question about how large of a logo we wanted, he mocked up three sizes and had me come in to see what I thought. After that, they were very quickly ready. I think it all took 2 or 3 days total, and I did not have a rush on the order. The embroidery came out looking great and were all well-placed (and ladies, don't we all know that there is a certain spot on your chest that you would NOT want logo'd?? Well RL knows that, too, and he won't put anything there). So what did all of this cost? A one-time $50 set up fee (so we can take in new stuff to be embroidered with our logo in the future without paying another set up fee), and if I'm remembering correctly, the cost of embroidery was $7ish an item. Very reasonable. I'm currently looking around my bedroom wondering what else I might could have embroidered. I love a good monogram. I'll be back. read more

I've never had anything monogrammed or embroidered in Austin, so I reached out to a few companies requesting quotes after doing a Google search. I needed seven small canvas pouches each monogrammed with a different first name. The fastest email response and best quote both came from Hill Country Embroidery. I worked with Brad on my project and he was so nice, professional, responsive and patient when my shipment of pouches was delayed (twice). He helped me pick out a font and thread color, which was so helpful, and turned around my project lightning fast to make sure that I had the gifts in time for my baby shower. We needed to get a single polo shirt embroidered and needed it within a week. Other shops we called either wouldn't touch an order that was so small or else told us it would be several weeks (with a hefty price tag to boot). Hill Country Embroidery was fast, friendly, and professional. In fact, they went above and beyond the call of duty. I had done the embroidery digitizing myself, but our first attempts at getting that to work failed. Hill Country Embroidery went to extra effort to get the file opened and converted and didn't charge me extra for this. Hours aren't posted anywhere, but they're 9-5. We had a simple job-- needed a name embroidered on the back of a uniform. It was done the same day for an entirely (overly?) reasonable price: $8. This is the kind of place where the owner is there every day and makes change out of his wallet. Super friendly. Closed early the day before because one of his employees was becoming a citizen. Super super cheap so I think it's worth It! But only thing is they have a difficult time following your instructions of what you want so I would recommend to triple check when the man writes down your order so there's no mistakes when you pick up your order. How long does it take to acknowledge a customer at the front? I entered the store and noticed the door chimer sound. I began to wait patiently expecting someone to greet me at the door but no one showed. Then proceeded to yell HELLO to get someone attention. Still no one greeted me at the counter. Then peeked my head around corner to find Brad at the desk. I then assumed he didn't hear me and yelled HELLO again to gain his attention. Still no acknowledgement. At this point I'm getting frustrated with their "high" level of customer service! I then hear the phone on speaker and assume maybe he didn't hear me... but as he quickly puts the phone to his ear as I say hello again, I can clearly hear his conversation. I then realize he heard me along. Finally, a young gentlemen comes from the back behind a door and greets me. I explain to him I spoke to Brad over the phone and through email and was trying to get some hats embroidered. He was kind and stated he would go get Brad so he could help me. After informing Brad the young man left and went back behind the door he came from. Brad not once looked my direction and still continued to talk on the phone. I'm genuinely thinking this whole time he is dealing with a customer on the phone. At this point I began to listen to the conversation, he is talking about credit scores and interests rates, meanwhile I been standing around for 10-15 mins on my lunch break trying to do business with company. I was going to my friends bridal shower and wanted her lingerie to be special. So I looked everywhere to try to get "Mrs. McClain" embroidered on it, but everywhere had a minimum or had a really long turn around time. I noticed Hill Country Embroidery had good reviews so I stopped in. The owner was very nice! They were busier than ever but he was able to finish my embroidery in 2 days, and it turned out Great. It was a hit at the party and all for 7.00$ He is your ideal local business that truly cares about customer service. He could have turned me away because he was too busy, knowing that 7.00$ probably wouldn't be much profit to him but he didnt. He did the job perfectly and turned it around in a timely manner. I tried to go to this place because it was highly rated. I went twice last week and it was closed. The hours aren't posted on the door so there's no way of knowing when it is open. I called and left a message and nobody called me back. I went twice today and both times the owner wasn't there. It's almost as if the business is a front for an illegal operation. I dropped off my son's Christmas stocking to be embroidered in March of this year and I was in no rush to have it done. I just stated I needed it by the Holidays. R.L. who owns and runs the shop is nothing but the BEST!! Not only is his work flawless and the price the best in town, but he is just NICE. It is so refreshing to deal with good people, and R.L. is great. The shop isn't fancy looking, but you will get exactly what you want. R.L. will spend all the time you need making sure you convey what you imagining. Then, if something goes wrong (even if it isn't his fault! - I messed up the initials for one of my monograms) R.L. will make it right. The shop is incredibly busy, but he gets things turned around in record time. Born and raised in Austin, TX, he's been at the current location for more than 12 years, and a visit to the shop is like a visit down nostalgia lane. I went in with my fiance to get a jacket embroidered for a gift. We sent him the vector file the day before and brought in the jacket the next. After a short consultation about the size, colors, and overall look of the test swatch he made, he went into his shop and finished it in about 10 minutes. As an apparel designer myself, I was fascinated by the equipment he had and he invited us into the shop to see the machines up close. We felt as if we were just talking to an old friend. He's super busy as he works with all different kinds of companies and usually will do large orders, but he still takes the time to fit those of us in who only need one item embroidered. So,....because the work they do is really good, I decided to give these guys another shot. So i take 7 of my shirts to get done on which looked liked they had a pretty busy day to take the time to help with my order. I told them what I wanted, told me it would take a few weeks which was fine with me and sure enough, they where done like they said it would be. Kelly who took my order was amazing and beared with my torrent of emails to get me exactly what I was looking for. Hill Country Embroidery and inparticular, RL may provide quality products, but his business practices are very poor. I had multiple shirts embroidered in the past from this business, but always had a friend place the order and pick them up. I called this business over a 3-week time period and left at least 7-8 messages identifying myself as a previous customer who would like to place an order. I know my calls were received since the voice mail message was changed at least 3 times and other friends left messages and had their calls returned. If the business doesn't want the work or doesn't want to deal with an individual that's their perogative, but have the common deciency to return the call and say "I'm sorry, but no". I have ZERO respect for someone who has no respect for others. That also goes against the creed and moral fiber of an organization that RL belongs to! read more
