Prior to the new ownership and their expansion of service into plumbing and whatever else they are doing, they were top shelf. Based on my recent experience, they seem to possibly be creating problems for their customers The original Hill Country Refrigeration installed the HVAC systems on my new build home in 2017. I've had them perform annual check-ups on my 4 HVAC units the last few years. Have never had any issues. This year, within a month of their visit, I've had to replace two motor starters, for about $275 each. The service manager told that after an annual inspection, starter failures are common. Maybe so, but two in the same timeframe seem less than coincidental. I'm not buying that explanation. And if I'm running this business, I'd want to know why these things are frequently failing after check-ups. I'd avoid these guys for whatever type of service you're looking for. I don't trust them. read more

After of my two HVAC units, installed by HCR on Valentine's Day 2025, stopped working last evening, I called the HC Refrigeration # and was shocked and delighted to hear an actual off-site person answer, take down my information, and promise to put me on the call list for this morning. Thankfully I heard from Technician Kyle Rodgers at 8:45 this morning and he arrived right when he said he would, diagnosed the clogged drainpipe issue, and set about to fix it. I appreciate the time and effort he took to handle the problem efficiently and effectively, and the fact he gave clear explanations of the issue and how he'd remedy it as he went along. I'm very grateful to Kyle and happy to have my house cool again. read more

Tyler responded to my call. He was there within 15 minutes. Nice young man. Went to examine the unit, said I needed a ______ (I have no idea), replaced it and it was up and running within 20 minutes. The whole service time was 30 minutes. Where else do you get service, punctuality, time management and efficiency? So recommending to anyone who asks me. read more

Saturday September 2, our air conditioner quit running. I called Hill Country and left a message. No response that weekend. Apparently they don't need business on weekends. I called Monday morning, and the receptionist was pleasant, remarked that I had done business with them in the past, and noticed that they had installed the air conditioning unit in the house I built near Junction a few years before. Sent a man out Tuesday after noon, who looked at the unit for a couple of hours and came down and told me something about a compressor, and that he had to return to Fredericksburg with a new unit. Brian, good man, US Navy veteran. I gave him a $20 tip for some cool beers after that hot attic. Never heard a word from Hill Country after that. Called several times during work hours, left messages ; apparently not interested in my business. Have spent all week without AC. Temperatures in the house up to 88 degrees in the afternoons. If you care to be treated like that, give them a call ! Care to respond , Hill Country - you won't talk directly to me on the phone - and as for the $90 bill you sent me, it doesn't work as well as Charmin. read more

Steve V., in particular, went out of his way to help me with a very difficult warranty situation, saving me thousands of dollars. I can't say enough about this company. I called on a late Saturday afternoon that my air conditioning was not keeping up in our rental cottage. Keith was here within 30 minutes. Diagnosed the problem and took the fan motor off. Keith went back to his shop and within the hour had it fixed and running like a dream!! Excellent service! read more

Hill Country Refrigeration is one of those rare companies that restore one's faith in the service industry! Last week, water began pouring through a light fixture in the ceiling in our entry hall. After looking around in the attic, I determined the source of the problem was an over-flowing pan under the AC unit. I called HCR expecting to get a recording because it was after hours but the phone was answered by the most delightful woman - chipper and friendly, she told me, with sincerity, that she was so sorry we were having a problem. She said that their after-hour's technician was on another call but that she'd get a message to him and he would call us with an ETA. Less than 10 minutes later, we got a call from Steven who said he was on his way! He was pleasant, courteous and exuded competence and confidence- the problem was corrected in less than an hour. He suggested that we make an appointment for a technician to come out soon and place an overflow/trip device on the unit so that if the drain pipe ever became plugged up again, the device would trip the unit to shut off preventing another ceiling leak. Two days later, I received a call from another technician (Daniel) who was between calls and had time to come over and install the device. He was every bit as pleasant and enjoyable as Steven. I got up in the attic with him so he could show me what he was doing and, while up there, he gave me an overview of how our system works. I've always known that it takes an extremely bright and well-educated person to do what they do but I'm blown away by the level of expertise and the vast knowledge it requires. Whatever issue one needs help with, it's sometimes difficult to find one who is highly skilled and competent in his or her field. When you do, it's hard to find one who is available when you need him or her. For that person to be friendly, cheerful, respectful and polite seems too much to ask for! And for two people in one company to be like that---well, just seems too much to ask for!! read more

Called Hill Country Refrigeration this morning to come out and check why our AC unit wasn't working. Within a couple of hours their technician showed up, asked if he should put on a mask, and immediately starting to trouble shoot the unit. His name was Steve and I learned that he previously served our country in the Navy. He found the problem with the pan drain being plugged and fixed that. He also founds some safety cutoff wiring that was improperly wired and fixed that. He then proceeded to check the outside unit and found that the amp draw on the fan was off and found a capacitor that needed to be replaced and he checked the coolant charge on the unit. I was very impressed with his professionalism, knowledge of the systems, and over courtesy. Thank you Steve for your service to our country and the service on our AC unit. Thank you Hill Country for hiring veterans and providing a great service. read more
