If you're looking for a place that is "pretty and modern looking", this isn't what you want. Money isn't spent on esthetics, paintings, chandeliers, modern office furniture or any other unnecessary item just to market the place to relatives. Those corporation owned nursing homes, and there are many, care about financial returns for their investors and paintings on the wall are a cheap way of getting relatives to place their loved one in their facility. Hillcrest on the other hand, is privately owned by a family who is still involved and are part of the community. The staff at Hillcrest is absolutely amazing and I'm perplexed how they are able to find people who obviously love the elderly regardless of their needs. So, if you think mom or dad would rather look at the nice paintings on the wall and sit in the lobby on modern furniture, Hillcrest isn't for you. But if you feel mom and dad would like to be in a well-kept and nice place and be attended to by the very best people who demonstrate real caring, Hillcrest is where you want to be. Fyi, do your research especially on Medicare.gov before you make decisions about nursing homes. Medicare does extensive inspections and reporting of all nursing homes and the results are on their website. You will find that most nursing homes do not meet or exceed the 4 stars that Hillcrest is given, a testament to the efforts that are put into the care they give the patients. But then again, Medicare doesn't grade on how much investors earn in profits by rubbing two nickels together and forcing managers to find the least expensive and fewest caregivers. Medicare doesn't grade on how decorated the place is as they know the esthetics are just for selling the family. Medicare grades on the caregiving! One other piece of advice, do your research on the nursing home ownership. If it would take a lawyer to do a forensic analysis of ownership through multiple shell corporations, walk away fast. Those homes will put their profits well ahead of your loved one without a thought. My mother went to Hillcrest at the age of 98 and at the time, failing in mental capacity and she was already limited physically. She is nearing the end and every day she has been there I have had nothing but absolute respect and appreciation for the staff at Hillcrest. Hillcrest has been wonderful over the past eight years that I've been employed here. (still currently employed here) The staff are always learning new and improved ways to maintain their education in the medical field. Person centered care is top notch and second to none. Daily you will find multiple staff for every department. The staff work well together to give prompt and gentle daily care for all residents. All residents are encouraged to be active in exercise groups if not here for therapy. Our goals are to keep your loved one as independent as possible for as long as possible. Maintaining their dignity and right to decide is very important for each plan of care. Daily activities run from 8am until 9pm daily. Multiple different courses offered at each meal for all diet types. Supervisors who are available to all staff 24 hours a day. Many who are here on their days off. When you look for employees who have "bought in" to their career, you will find them at Hillcrest in Round Lake Beach. I can personally say that we do and always will go above and beyond for our residents and staff. We are family, we do provide person centered care and will always provide a clean environment for your loved one. We encourage family to volunteer so they can see day to day operations! I can't say enough good things about this facility. When I read the one star ratings I think it's unfortunate that they rated Hillcrest as low as they did. The quality of service my mother-in-law received from the day she moved in to 23 days later when she passed was five star. I have been to many nursing homes in my life and this one might not be the prettiest of them but the quality of care is what matters most. I hope everybody reading this review never has to put a love one or they themselves have to go into a nursing home to live out their final days or years but if you do, I strongly recommend Hillcrest. read more

As someone that has done business with them, I can say the owner is always trying to take short cuts and this shows in the way they do business and take care of their facilities. If you have a loved one that needs help...look elsewhere. There are a lot of better choices. STAY AWAY :-( read more

Very large list of pros here, but very large list of cons. The pros include; supervisors always seeming to go out of their way to help, nurses make the job fun for the CNAs, and also safe for the residents. Most employees do their two hour checks on time and how theyre suppose to. Residents seemed happy and enthusiastic 99 percent of the time. Cons; there is a enourmous hispanic click that cause mischief with other CNAs and bother the residents by speaking spanish in front of them. One of the residents acctualy talks back at them and asks what theyre saying about this certain resident because he can not speak or understand spanish. There are certain CNAs who do not work as they should, Hillcrest over works their night shift staff (One CNA, she had upwards to 30 incontinent residents on one hall who all constantly need to be turned, changed, and checked on.) There have been incidents where all CNAs go on break with out telling the 5th CNA which is a major saftey violation and against facility protocal. Janitors without their certifications or being enrolled on a CNA class have been known to work on the floor. I give the facility one star because even though they do have a clean, well kept, secure facility. They do have major violations. Not to say those precautions being obliterated are a major saftey hazard, but they still are unsafe situations proformed every day that can easily be fixed. read more

My mother is currently in Hillcrest and I could not be happier that we chose this place! The interior looks a little dated (older wallpaper and whatnot) but don't let that fool you! The care provided here is great. The staff is very professional and knowledgable, but what I like most is how friendly and enthusiastic everyone is. We had been to another nursing center previously and it was very low energy, the staff was not very helpful, and my mom was very unhappy there. Since she has been at Hillcrest she has made friends with a lot of the nurses and staff and they make a point to interact with her on a personal level and have fun with her. She told me she considers them part of the family now. I cannot say enough nice things about Hillcrest. My mother and family all love it! read more
