Our family Eyecare practice. We began utilizing Grayslake Eyecare because of proximity, but have stayed because of the care most of the staff provides. Standard eye exams, and testing along with a corrective eyewear room to shop from and try on/select products. We recently brought our son for his school exam and the doctor was great about explaining what was happening and going slowly through the process. He ended up needing glasses and there was a great selection of kids frames available for him to try on and select from. My one negative is that there is one woman in the eyewear room that almost seems bothered to be there and to be helping. But if you can avoid her, you'll likely have a great experience. read more

I've been coming here since I was in the 3rd grade; the office has been updated and has maintained a fresh, clean, welcoming environment. Despite being very busy, the front desk staff are incredibly kind and efficient. I showed up early for my appointment time and was taken back almost immediately to take pictures of my eyes and all of the other quick procedures I don't know the names of. The new doctor they have on staff is so sweet and welcoming. She answered all of my questions and laughed with me when I thought I nailed the vision test (I did not nail the test, lol). Not once did I feel rushed or like I was wasting time. I'm so sad to be moving in the next year because I will greatly miss this place! I've read some of the other reviews, and they don't match my experience at all. It may be because of my age, but I know what it's like to work in the service industry; having someone stomp around your office demanding free services or waiving fees always ends with a threat of a nasty review on yelp, lol. Please be kind to the people who often deal with poorly behaved-adults. Anywho, I really enjoy this place and the staff that work there! read more

This was my first visit for an eye exam, having been recommended to them by Allen Optical, who took care of me before I moved to this area. When the exam was over, I was ushered into the showroom and asked to wait, reminding me of a car buying experience. He advised that the eye exam fee was $175.00. Upon questioning, the fee was reduced to $84.00 because I am a Medicare patient. (The exam fee at Allen was a net $65.00 and included a pupil dilation, test that was not performed during this exam.) The sales person then quoted prices for glasses, including the 30% discount. I wanted to ask him why the prices aren't 30% less to begin with but I didn't want to give that impression that I was a smart aleck. I doubt that I'll ever go back. read more

Not good at all. The overcharge, they let someone make an eye appointment for a diabetic exam with no plans to do one. They charge for an aspect of the exam that was not requested or necessary without disclosing the added cost. So basically, I left with no change at all to my RX, no diabetic exam and $130 bucks lighter (WITH INSURANCE coverage for the basic eye exam). I told them that I wasn't in need of new glasses or contacts, btw. My mother, friend and husband were all waiting to see, so they just lost 4 clients. I feel like I just got robbed. I do not recommend- I had better service and walmart and costco all over the country while my husband was in the military, and the DID dilate my eyes without any problem. read more

Very friendly and very thorough about the Covid19 virus and my eye health.

I have had glasses for over fifty years, and this has been the worst experience that I've ever had. The doctors and opticians were all friendly, however, friendliness doesn't go far if you can't do your job. I had an appointment in March to check my script and get new glasses. I am severely nearsighted and have been in bifocal/progressive lenses most of my life. The exam and new glasses procedure went smoothly. A week later, I pick up my new glasses. I had difficulty with the reading portion, but assumed that just needed to the new script. After several days of trying, I gave up and went back to my old glasses. I also scheduled a new appointment to figure out what was wrong. I saw a different optometrist and she told that the previous script was incorrect and they would remake my lenses. At this time, I asked for a copy of my script. This script seemed closer, but I couldn't use the reading portion at all, and I dealing with alot of eye stress. I ended up getting an out of pocket eye exam from a different clinic. The results were shocking...The script that they gave didn't match her results nor the script that was in the lenses. One of the lenses was made so poorly that it had almost no reading script in it. Your eyes are too important for this kind of shoddy workmanship read more

Unprofessional and the doctor shows no compassion. They don't have hand written prescriptions, instead they say calling it in to the pharmacy is easiest for them....that's great IF THEY ACTUALLY WOULD CALL IT IN!! The associate said they would call in the prescription right after he was done checking me out, when I got to the pharmacy...nothing had been called in. I called the office and was RUDELY told they would call it in after they were done seeing their patients (mind you I had double pink eye and was suffering with pain, burning, drainage). They don't return phone calls and won't bill secondary insurance. I am in the healthcare field...they are completely unprofessional! Finding a new eye doctor! read more

I went here 5 years ago and had a very good experience. I've since moved and recently called asking for my (pupillary distance) PD. This is apparently the measurement most I care facilities withhold unless you've previously purchased glasses with them. This is there way to make an online purchase more difficult for you. Kind of a scam. Anyway, I called and was told because the PD can change over time (not really Google it) there's a $50 charge to measure again. I told the woman I don't need to be measured, but only want the previous measurements. She said she understands, but there will still be a $50 charge JUST TO TELL ME THE PREVIOUS MEASUREMENTS. I told her LensCrafters etc. doesn't charge for that. Her response "we're not LensCrafters's. ". You would think this small boutique business would be more accommodating than the larger chains... Nope! Big money grab! In response to John K. You state it's been your policy for 10 years as if that means something! It only means you guys decided to charge $50 to take 1 minute or less to provide the patient their PD measurement. Which by the way, is the patien's legal right to obtain. You just hit them with an insane $50 fee to read 1 number. I understand your attempt to protect your business, but let's be honest here. I didn't want any of the services you mentioned. I only wanted the previous PD reading I already paid for. I'm not paying $50 for 1 number to be read. And yes, withholding PD is the move companies like yours make to keep patients from buying the same glasses online for far less money than you charge. That's exactly why all the online sites provide a ruler and simple instructions on how to measure PD. Also, PD rarely changes for an adult. This is a fact. Even if it did, it's my call, my "risk", and my medical record. It's such a clear money grab. Your response is laughable and obvious. In the past consumers had to sit back and take it, but now we can post on sites like Yelp to help others from getting ripped off. It's a shame. I was okay at first with giving 3 stars for previous services, but the clear attempt to coverup this scam deserves far less. read more

The eye exam and contact fitting went well. I was really impressed with the doctors and their thoroughness. However, that's where it went down hill... There's a lack of communication in the front office when it comes to orders. Got a call 2.5 weeks after my first appointment to tell me my contact trails were ready for pick up. I showed up the same day and there was only a right lens ready. They had me wait in the office for 15 minutes while they scour for the left lens only for them to tell me they couldn't find it and they'll have to reorder. I had to call them a week later asking if they got anything in, nothing. Called again a week later, got put on hold for 10 minutes and was finally told they were going to call their Lake Zurich office to see if was there. Was called back 5 minutes later stating that it was in lost in the office this whole time and back tracked saying that it was in a shipment from Lake Zurich. The second bad experience ( because we needed more than one..) my husband's glasses got scratched up after rough housing with the kids. He was leaving in two weeks on a business trip. He called up to let them know what happened and made an appointment to order replacement lens. A week later got a call to let him the lens ready but when he showed up he was told the person at the first appointment was supposed to take his frames and it was going to take an additional week at the least! He did get his glasses on time but we were left frustrated and ready to take our business somewhere else. read more

This place is unbelievable. I got a half fast annual check and they did not even dialatemy eyes. I requested that they make sure to not leave the glass frames straight over the ears and to bend them (that didn't happen). I have left a couple of messages for them in the last couple of weeks, but no calls were returned. They promised that they would be done in 2-2.5 weeks and I just received an automated text this afternoon (over a month, since I paid them for the glasses on the day of the appointment). They sent me a text this afternoon, so I called an they told me that they close at 5 pm. I walked in at 4:45 with a mask on and he told me to go outside (couldn't they have told me curbside pick up originally or when I called earlier in the day). He came outside with my glasses not bent as I requested and he said "because of covid they probably were delayed and gave me no reason why they didn't call me back or send automated text to that they were delayed in the manufacturing (neither did he say sorry). Hopefully, these glasses are correct, but I will never ever recommend this place to anybody. I feel ripped off in customer service and feel raw from this no care attitude. I wish that I could give them a negative 2 for a review above. read more

I've been going here for awhile now so I was already happy with the care and professionalism of this place. However, I am even more impressed now that I brought my dad here. He was having trouble with his old glasses, couldn't see appropriately, so I suggested he go here. Not only did they identify a cataract problem, they suggested we get that taken care of first, before continuing with getting new glasses. This may seem like an obvious thing, but 2 years ago when we went to a different optometrist, they made light of the cataract issue and encouraged us to get glasses then. Even though he could barely see the letters of the eye test. That doctor basically said my dads vision couldn't be corrected and that this was the best they could do. Fast forward to today, my dad got the cataract surgery, can see better than he has in 50 years, and we went back to Grayslake Eye Care for a follow up. Due to a severe astigmatism, my dad still needs glasses just to correct his vision to absolute clarity which is something we never thought he would achieve. Told me I needed glasses before they would give me approval to go get cataracts surgery, paid $800 for a pair glasses, use them twice before my cataract surgery. Had to have a new pair of glasses made because the left Eye wasn't as clear as the right. Complained about the price and why I needed The original glasses before my cataract surgery They said they were sorry if they misled me about original pair of glasses. This place does not send test results to doctors as asked during the visit as well as a 2nd request. They assured me they did but did not. I had to pick up the test results and bring them to the specialist after their second failed attempt to get these to the specialist. This delayed my childs life altering medicine to be seriously delayed due to their negligence. They are Seriously over priced. They try and swindle you to buy more than needed items and additions to your glasses without telling you, which are not required. They do not send you contacts when ordered. Very poor business practices. Glasses and contacts with excellent insurance should not cost over $500 for 1 person. I have never have never paid this much any place over my last 30 years. I had a great experience at Grayslake eye care & Associates. The staff knew exactly what they were doing and made the entire process painless and simple. I normally go to American eyewear or the places in the mall nothing really special for eye care, but this time I wanted to try a real eye doctor business. When I first went in there I didn't know anything about once a day contacts, Dr Troy and Dr. Scott Pouyatt both put me on to the once a day contacts and I ended up buying them for a year supply and I love them. Also Tasha and Chris the associates there were very helpful and knowledgeable as well and even repaired a two-year-old bent frame that I had. highly recommend this place, check it out nothing to lose! read more

The doctors there are friendly. We have had issues each of the last two years with our contact orders either being different than what the prescription said or lost or late or something. They are generally apologetic and they give us samples to use but it is frustrating. read more

The office is nice... Staff is relatively friendly. Saw Dr. Oliver. The eye exams are short and sweet. Instead of charging $20 for dilation, they charge $20 to take a picture of the retina. So same thing, without the hassle of not being able to drive for 3 hours. It is nice that they can get glasses back relatively quickly, within a day or two, for uncomplicated prescriptions. The cost was ... Eh. $75 for a contact exam was not covered by my insurance, but is $25 less than Target Optical charges. It was around $300 for my exams (glasses, contacts) and frames/lenses. My family has been going to the Grayslake EyeCare center for over 8 years and the way we have recently been treated is unacceptable. We tried to get our rebate, which we have gotten every single year with no problems, but unfortunately Grayslake Eye Care did not deliver. After numerous calls trying to get it figured out Sam was very unhelpful after stating that she would help us, which she didn't. The manager was very unprofessional when we tried calling to fix this problem, and actually blamed the problem on us, as the paying customers, that we did not do our part. It's really immature that as the business owner he won't fix the solution and provide proper customer service. After all these years we will be taking our business elsewhere, because this isn't the eye care center in the area. I'll go to a center that actually cares for their customers and is able to assist them and their issues in a friendly and timely manner. read more

Go somewhere else!! Front of the house staff are not trained to measure progressive lenses. They are very unprofessional, and they lie. I was told I could get the specific highest-level digital lenses that I requested prior to payment. Tosha lied to me the first day but gave me a receipt for exactly what I asked for, knowing that this is not what I was ever going to get! I was measured for progressive lenses by Tosha initially, then again on a second visit, and then by Courtney on a third visit. Neither one measured correctly. Could not see out of any of these lenses at any point. They were both very rude and told me that I was the problem, that they had made them 3 times and they were NOT going to remake them. I then called several times asking to have Dr. Pouyat call me. No call. I then called my insurance company, and they told me I had a totally different lens brand than the one I had specifically asked for. They told me they don't even have the lenses I had requested and that Tosha knew this when she was keying it in on day one to get my pricing. Because no one would call me back, I then wrote an email to the office spelling out what had happened over the past several weeks, which finally got a response from the Antioch office manager. She had been asked by Dr. Pouyat to measure me and make yet another pair. I agreed. Dumb idea on my part! I told her my right eye hurt when I wore them, and I couldn't see correctly. She then told me after inspecting the lenses herself, that they were made wrong. When my left eye was looking out of the distance portion of the lens, my right eye was looking out of intermediate portion. This proves they don't check their lenses before they are given out! So, finally got my 4th pair of lenses, and the progressive measure was finally correct. Thank goodness, right? Not so fast! This time, they were not digital lenses at all. I specifically asked for and paid for digital lenses. This was my ENTIRE reason for getting new lenses in the first place! I actually received a lower quality lens than what I paid for and lower quality than the pair I was trying to replace. I'm out $305, which they will not refund! Where else can you go get bad service, the wrong product, lied to and all for $305. Go somewhere else!! read more

Awful, awful, awful. They misinformed me about my insurance, so I paid cash up front needlessly. Promised to deliver contacts asap, never did get them because the doctor was always "out of town." Kept insisting they couldn't order my lenses until the doctor saw my records from previous doctor, so I made countless calls between their office and the previous office asking about faxing records, which previous office couldn't release until Grayslake Eye Care sent my signed release form, which they took three weeks to do. It was a nightmare. Everyone there treated me as if they were doing me a huge favor by just talking to me. It was the worst situation I have ever experienced with a medical office. read more
