Great service and nice people. Both my husband and I have been here a few times and I feel that they do a thorough check and evaluation. The process takes a while, but that isn't bad if they do a good job. I love that they check our insurance first and help to use the insurance money most effectively. I needs new glasses and contacts and we figured out the best deal. They also showed me where some budget frames were that my insurance covered and only cost me $20!! I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience really bothered me. I arrived for my appointment and parked in a space that was marked as Reserved for the building. When my appointment ended and I went back to my car, I discovered that I couldn't leave because the doctor had parked directly behind my car, completely blocking me in. There were multiple other open parking spaces surrounding me. When I went back into the office and explained that my car was blocked, they said "Oh. That's the doctor's car. She's with a patient, and you'll have to wait." I waited at least 10 minutes, anxious because I had to get back to work. The parking area wasn't clearly marked as reserved for doctors, and there were plenty of other open parking spaces available. When I finally spoke to the doctor and explained that I needed to return to work, her response was, "I am at work." That comment came across as incredibly dismissive and arrogant. My time and job matter too. If the parking space is meant to be reserved, it should be clearly marked. Instead, I was inconvenienced and made to feel like my schedule didn't matter. The lack of professionalism and respect left a lasting impression, and because of this experience, I will not be returning to this office. So we had my kids eye checked here after years of going to a "real eye doctor" due to an insurance change. Boy, was this place awful. From a terrible in-store experience to VERY questionable doctors and predatory sales practices, this place is the pits! They don't understand insurance and jeez, they can't check your eyes. It was so bad we went to a real doctor who was not trying to just pressure you to buy overpriced glasses, who had a very different prescription. I'm embarrassed that this dump has a prime location downtown. Beware and avoid at all costs (of which they have many). read more

When I got my glasses I told them I couldn't see out of them. It's something with the lenses they weren't right. I was told nothing could be done wear them for a week. Here is the issue. The store sold me frames that broke twice in a year. After calling them I was told to come over and they will replace the glasses second time. However it turned out they no longer have the frames in stock which is obviously not their fault. However the issue was with employee who was not only surely but arrogant and disrespectful raising her voice and pointing her finger at me. When I told her to stop, I was told that she "speak with hands" and Dr Carla is not her boss so there is nothing I can do. Dr Carla is actually quite nice and I left a message to speak to her but there was no call back. The other issue is their sales tactics. They want to sell you frames but they are uninformed of what actually works best for a customer and which frames are the most durable. Armed with this info I would have made a better choice. In other words buyer beware so if you want to be bullied and disrespected MyDrEye in Grayslake, IL is your place. From now on I will buy my glasses elsewhere. read more

I would probably not come here I went to my appointment on April 6 to get glasses and the staff said 15 business days for my glasses to come and it's been a month and one week in the half I haven't got mine glasses I called and ones of the staff said something about my insurance that it would probably come in the end of the week but it didn't and I call again about my glasses and they said they call the place that is been over a month my glasses hasn't came in yet and I pay about 200$ ... I would rather go to a different place it shouldn't take this long to have glasses ready read more

I have had two decent experiences here, but my last experience was total rubbish. The doctor did a great job with the exam, but that was the end of the positive aspect. Four weeks after my visit, I called to see what was happening with my perspiration contact order, only to be informed that the order was never placed (paid for in advance obviously). The staff member then told me he was placing the order as he was talking to me and I would have them in 2-3 days. It's now been 2 additional weeks and still no contacts, and here's the kicker....they will not refund my money until I receive the contacts and bring them back to them. So the quick response if someone asks me if they should go here, absolutely not. I also emailed the corporate office to try and get a refund for the contacts I have not received and never heard back from them either... read more

Horrible. Absolutely horrible experience here. Sent the entire family to this location after I switched jobs and received new vision insurance. First child needed new contacts - the doctor forced him to get away from his normal pair of contacts (Oasys) and into whatever brand they pushed on him (Biofininity Energy). After two weeks, the kid couldn't wear the contacts because his eyes were so red and watery, so we had to exchange them for his normal pair. During the first visit, I decided the second kid needed glasses. We ordered a $400 pair of Ray-Bans, but the glasses absolutely fell apart in two months to a point where a lens was popping out every time he put them on. (To be clear - I call them kids. But they aren't - the older kid is 16, the second kid is 14.) We sent the glasses back, and the eye "doctor" said the frames were defective and new ones would be ordered. However, they didn't bother to say how long it would take to get new frames. That took three weeks... in the meantime, the glasses we falling apart every time he put them on while we waited for these new frames to come in. After not hearing from them for two weeks, I called them to let them know the "scratch-free lens" I intentionally ordered had scratched because the lens kept popping out and hitting the floor. During this complaint, the woman on the phone kept abruptly putting me on hold, then said no one ever took an order regarding the replacement glasses. The final straw and the reason I am leaving my first YELP review ever was because this morning - I received a phone call saying the frames were in, I went in to pick up the new frames and the woman said the lenses were not in yet. I was told the frames would be arriving Monday - two days later. I started to say something when the woman stuck up and wagged her finger at me and literally said "It's too early for this..." Finally, my wife went in for a contact prescription order, and the doctor couldn't figure out her prescription after the eye exam. Instead, she asked my wife "what is your current prescription?" My wife told her, and the doctor said "We'll just stick with that." Then, they tried to sell her the same brand of contacts my son had... instead, kinowing the problems my older son had, my wife ordered a sample. The samples ALSO took two weeks to come in and, of course, they didn't fit correctly. Luckily, my wife was smart enough to order Oasys online and is waiting for the prescription to come in Monday or Tuesday. Bottom line: Don't let the beautiful interior of this place and the quaint downtown of Grayslake fool you... I've never seen a business be so inept and fail an expensive order like this before. Literally - everything I ordered didn't fit, didn't work, or broke after 60 days. Then, when confronted about the problems, I received excuse after excuse until a finger was wagged in my face and I was told "It's too early for this..." This place is ridiculous. read more

Seems to be one mistake after the other. Had eye exam, orderes glasses. Day asked if I could ship my glasses because of covied and that I could just call them if they didn't fit correctly. I said yes. Then I start getting calls that my glasses are ready for pick up at the office and I need to schedule an appointment. They forgot to give me a receipt or my contact lens prescription after my exam so I had to weave through the maze of customer service to get a prescription. They put the wrong brand of contact lenses on my prescription so I was unable to complete an order at a 3rd party contact lens supply place. I called them to correct the problem and they said they would fix my prescription and then email me the correct one. They then sent me the prescription for my glasses, not my contacts. Pull it together folks...sheesh read more

After calling for an update on my glasses after weeks, I received a text message and email yesterday saying they were ready to be picked up. Packed up my infant this afternoon and drove out to Grayslake. Was told at the door I needed to make an appointment. Nothing in the text or email says to do that. "Your glasses are ready for pick up". That's it. So they left me in the cold with an infant and told me to call and make an appointment. Just hand them to me through the door! They're paid for! Unreal. Now I have to go back in a few hours. Major inconvenience even without a baby to haul back and forth. Won't be back after this. Too bad, I liked Dr Carla and the staff. read more

I've been here several times since I moved to the area almost two years ago. I've gotten two sets of frames and lenses here as well as two sets of replacement lenses for frames I already had (one from Spex and one from another shop). They have always been super helpful and eager to make sure I'm happy with my vision and lenses. I also came here for an exam when I was having trouble with my vision. Marnie (?) sent me home with some prescription drops to clear up my eyes (apparently contacts and dry eye add up to me not being able to see). That worked to a point, but when I went back a few weeks later I still had issues, so then she treated the dry eye with over the counter remedies. Two weeks after that, I could see! THEN, when she finally did my exam, I found out that the prescription I had gotten from my last optometrist was wrong. Like, waaaaaay too strong. Marnie took the time to find the right prescription and made sure it was as weak as I could go, so that I wasn't causing unintentional eye strain. I've noticed a huge decrease in my headaches as well. I also like that when I have problems with my eyes (dry eye, little vision changes--probably due to dry eye) they recommend home/over-the-counter remedies rather than just prescribing something OR recommending contacts that cost ten times as much OR recommending lasik. They offer several types of contact lenses, it seems like all of these places are always pushing the new greatest thing, but I prefer my Acuvue 2's and they didn't push back when I didn't want the newer lenses (which drive my eyes crazy). I don't mind them offering new products but when the lenses I have are more comfortable, I want to be able to get them again. Only downside is, I think the frames and lenses are on the pricey side. I have a strong prescription and a history of eye disease in my family, so I'm willing to pay more to be sure it's right. read more

DO NOT ORDER GLASSES FROM HERE. I regret not reading the reviews before going to this location. I had been going to the Hinsdale location because we absolutely loved the doctors, selection, and the rest of the staff. I have no one to blame but myself for not reading the reviews and sadly it's the reason I had to wait 7 WEEKS to get my glasses. The doctor is absolutely amazing. I don't blame her at all and if I had to get an eye exam only, I would definitely go back with Dr. Carla was probably the quickest appointment I've ever had and that considering we were chit chatting during the appointment. Staff is another story. We had the "lovely" chance to have Judy or Julie help us. I can't remember her name because I refused to deal with her beyond the time it took to get the glasses ordered. She was so rude. First she asked if she could see my ring and I said sure, she grabbed my hand and took the ring off so she could try it on. I let it slide because she clearly had no common sense. Then she kept telling me the glasses I liked looked bad on me, even though my husband also liked them. Based on her attitude I assume they work on commission because she then asked if it was too much money which is why I didn't want them. Thankfully my husband was there or I would have gone off on her. The real cherry on top was when my husband and I ordered the same frame but different colors. Our wonderful helper said it would take 7 business days to get our glasses. We received a call 3 days later that my husbands glasses were in. They had given him the wrong frame color to start. Then he noticed that he couldn't see well unless he moved his glasses higher. He asked the person if they should have measured him and he said absolutely. Our helper didn't think it was necessary to measure either of us. They told him they would order his frame again and the lenses after they measured him. A week goes by with no word on my glasses. They told us my frame was now back ordered. The lenses were sent to a different location. My husband gets his lenses in and they ask him to go in and make sure they are correct and fit properly. The frame was exactly what we had picked but they said the lenses were wrong so they had to reorder them. Another week goes by and they let us know that the wrong frame they gave my husband was supposed to be mine. They entered ANOTHER order for my frame. Another week goes by and they don't know what's going on with his lenses but my frame came in. It had a huge scratch on the front of the frame so ANOTHER order is entered. My lenses were correct but they had an imperfection that looked like condensation. They ordered my lenses again. After 5 weeks they finally have my husbands lenses and frame. At least one of us was done with the fiasco. Now at week 7 I finally got my glasses and lenses that were correct. After everything they simply told my husband that this never happens. The reviews say something different and I hope nobody else has to go through this again. read more

Simon, the new manager, was excellent in listening to my problem, reviewing my prescription, checking my focal points and then ordering new lenses. His professionalism is exemplary! Worst customer service I have ever received. I had my exam July 31, 2020 and charged my credit card almost $500 and never ordered contacts. The keep giving excuses on why the money hasn't been refunded and they keep saying to give it another week and here we are almost 5 months later and still haven't returned my money even though I have a statement from them saying they are refunding it. Went to this location in the past and purchased glasses and was happy with their service. Went back to order sunglasses and they said that they would order them, but required a deposit. Gave them cash to order the glasses. They called back and told me that the frames that I ordered were no longer made. I went back to get my cash back and they said that they could only mail me a check back. I asked were there refund policy is posted. The technician said that they don't post one. By far the worst experience I've had at any eyeglass store. I had better service and better products at Lens Crafters. These folks had to remake my glasses 9 times and they were still bad. They kept telling me the lab messed them up. After I finally got them after 3 months they were to big and hurt my face. When I went back for a smaller lighter pair they said no. This place has cost me time, money and a lot of grief. I've been a local business man for 20 years and have been wearing glasses for 52 years. I've never been treated so carelessly with something so important. Find another place this place is a joke. Follow up with Pierre He did nothing for me and refused to remake my glasses. He did nothing to help. More follow up! After months of waiting and battling with Spex I was able to get my money back from the credit card company. I was not able to get Eyemed to reinstate my benefits because BRIAN lied to them and said they took care of me. They didn't and they haven't. They stole my money, lied to Eyemed and ruined my glasses 9 times and left me hanging. As a local 22 year resident and 20 year local business owner I have always looked out for Grayslake. My daughter went in for an eye exam, and they said they wouldn't give her the prescription information until they receive payment from the insurance company. This is like a doctor saying they won't tell you what's wrong with you until they get paid from the insurance company. Insurance check has been sent, but we waited a month before we could find out what she needed to be able to see! This is dispicable. Spex ought to know there is alot of competition out there. Tried to support local, but will not be going back when this proves they are about nothing more than the almighty dollar. I thought I got something in my eye the night before, and went to a clinic because I couldn't seem to flush it out. The clinic recommended I go see an eye doctor as soon as possible because they were suspecting a tear in my cornea. I called MyEyeDr. and they got me in within 2 hours. I ended up having a significantly sized tear in my cornea! They treated me and the care they provided was outstanding. Besides being nice, everyone had such a great personality, so I scheduled an annual check up with them! read more

I have been getting glasses and contacts here since it was Village Vision, but no more. Last year I put the new glasses on and immediately knew something was wrong, but they would not believe me. They insisted I try them for a week. So I brought them back after a week and finally convinced them to actually look at the glasses. One lens was made wrong and mounted in the frame 90 degrees off, and the astigmatism was left off. Then they tried to bill me a second time, which also happened the year before. This year when I tried my new glasses on I couldn't believe they had screwed up again. They examined the glasses and confirmed everything was correct, that the problem was me, and they needed to 'educate me' on how to see. Yet with the progressive bifocals, which I am not new to, I could read close up through the top of the lens but not the bottom. Doesn't take a genius to determine the lens was upside down. Yet they denied it, insisting it was made correctly. Dr. Carla has always been great, and I will miss seeing her, but the front staff is completely incompetent. They spend more time figuring out insurance than the Dr spends on your exam, and they think they know more about your eyes than you do. read more

I have been going to this location for years and had awesome service when it was SPEX. They also had a wonderful selection of quality frames. Dr. Carla is terrific and I would continue to see her for my eye exam. The staff is inexperienced at best. I did not order glasses after my visit. I took my prescription and am going someplace else. The customer service person kept having to go to talk to others to get answers to my questions. They had a poor selection of rimless frames and did not seem to understand the ones they had. Their answers on the one group o f frames I was interested in were inconsistent with the information from the manufacturers website. While everyone was polite, it was a lousy experience. The new company that owns this place has definitely downgraded it. read more

Spex has a great selection of frames but be prepared for pricey glasses. Our glasses were expensive but they are quite stylish and the complex lenses are great. The person who helped us was pretty pushy, trying to get us to up the options on the lenses and not very helpful with insurance issues; overall very bossy. (disliked this very much) read more
