If you're visiting the quiet side of Acadia National Park, don't miss Clark Point Cafe. We loved it…read moreso much we went there every single day during our vacation. This is truly one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to. Everything was exceptional -- the Eggs Benedict, tartines, Turkish eggs, fresh bakery items, and all the different superb coffee selections. Every meal was fresh, unique, and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and relaxing, with friendly service that made us feel at home every time we walked in. Clark Point Cafe became one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Acadia's quiet side!

This was my second time visiting & I ended up ordering even more than the first. I originally…read moreplanned to try a new spot, but nothing else was open around that time so I came back here, and I'm glad I did. I started with two toasted bagels with cream cheese. They were fine, not the freshest bagels I've had, but they had a good amount of cream cheese, just okay overall. The croissant was large and nicely toasted, likely not baked in-house (gave off Costco croissant vibes), but it came with a really tasty berry spread. The blueberry scone, however, wasn't great. Not a fan of the texture or flavor on that one. For coffee, I tried the dirty chai and a regular drip coffee, both solid and satisfying. But the real showstopper was the lavender latte. I'm obsessed. It was fragrant, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Easily my favorite part of the visit. I also had the BLT sandwich and the smoked salmon tartine. Both were delicious. You could tell the same ingredients (pickles, veggies, capers) were used across multiple items, but it still worked well and tasted fresh. Lastly, I ordered the Dutch baby pancake. The presentation was lovely, and it was freshly made, but the flavor was just okay, I've had better. The overall experience was really fun. People around us were checking out my food and even asked for recommendations. The staff also acknowledged our spread, which made it feel even more welcoming.

This is one of those adorably quaint places that makes you want to uproot your life and move to the…read moreplace you are vacationing! Then, you think about what life on the Island must be like in the dead of February and remember that is maybe not such a great idea. But, if you visit Mount Desert Island and are smart enough to visit the "Quietside", this place is worth a stop! I've been here each of my last three annual summer visits. You will see a large pink sign for Mansett Little Farm along the road on the way to the Seawall (a beautiful piece of Acadia National Park). You'll also see a sandwich-board sign advertising "Cookies and more". If you speed by, stop, turnaround and come back! You won't regret it! I never know what treats I might find available when I pop in, but I know there will always be something good. From the famed Whoopie Pie to raspberry bars to cookies and lemon squares - they are all so good. Oh, and the Hermit Bar - a New England specialty - SO GOOD! And - this place is totally on the honor system. Only once have I actually met a friend of the owner who was apologizing the the limited selection that day (I still got plenty). Prices are marked and a basket with cash change is there. I'm guessing it works, as this is how it's been and continues to be. Rumor has it - some of the treats are available in the local market as well. But, really, make the trek here and experience this gem! It's totally worth it!

This isn't the only place in Vinalhaven that serves coffee, but it's definitely the best coffee on…read morethe island (no offense to any of the other fine establishments). Their cold brew is fantastic on a warm morning leading into a hot day, and their croissants are flaky and perfect. The chocolate ones are especially good. They also have a dark chocolate brownie that's positively decadent. I can't speak for their sandwiches, sadly, or the delicious confections on display every day at the counter, piled high with Maine blueberries...but I will say that everything in there was clearly made fresh daily, and looked...well, good enough to eat. They even had a basket marked "yesterday's baking" for discounted goods from the day before, displaying both their dedication to supplying fresh bread every morning and that wonderful waste-not, want-not island economy. There's also a small counter of meats and cheeses, some wine, oils, and preserves on shelves near the back of the store, and a beautiful display of vintage teacups along the wall opposite the counter. The teacups are $20 each and come with a cup of tea, and after a week of popping in for my morning coffee I couldn't resist. I am now the proud owner of a beautiful vintage teacup. The barista wrapped it up for me snuggly enough that it made the journey back home without a scratch, even in a car full of nonsense and two sunbaked millennials. Now I'm back in Boston, where there's a coffee shop on every corner...but to be honest, none of the cold brews I've had here quite compare to Downstreet Market's.

I came to the island for one day last week during our 4 day trip to Maine. I saw the sign for a…read more"zap frap" so got excited and I told my friend i would get us two - my treat. When I walked in I saw that there were pies on the counter and our group (outside) had not tried a Maine Blueberry pie yet so I figured I'd order two slices as a surprise. I walked up to the counter where there was a young girl standing there who wouldn't even say anything to me. I was right in front of her at the counter and she had seen me. I spoke to get her attention and she said, "oh are you here for..(I didn't hear the rest but it was something she was expecting or someone coming)" I said "no, I'd like to order, where do I order?" (Since it had been a decent amount of time of her being aware I was there standing in front of her counter and her doing nothing). Nobody else was in the store except my friend, my child and I. She said, "you order with me". I said, "Ok, I'd like two zap frap's and two slices of blueberry pie please". She paused and said, "just a moment." She walked away, into the back, as if something was odd. She came back with a woman who said, "can I help you?". I said, "yes I'd like to order two zap fraps and two slices of blueberry pie". She paused, rudely looked at me and told a guy, "go ahead and get it for her". I was the only one standing at the counter. Behind me was my friend. I felt very odd by the interaction and I can't adequately put it into words. It was beyond rude, almost like a hateful kind of rude. I didn't know what it was but it felt like something was wrong with me being in there. I am Asian with tattoos and a biracial child. I have manners.. My friend who is Caucasian (relevant to the story) was sitting down at the table watching the whole thing said, " it appears you just got discriminated against." I said, "I felt exactly that way but didn't want to say that in case i was wrong!!!" Of course we don't know that, but something was off. My child had to use the bathroom. I handed my friend my card and asked him to pay with it so I could take my child to the bathroom. When I came out my friend told me I had paid over $27. $27 and change for two frappacinos and two slices of pie. The pie and frappacinos were excellent, don't get me wrong. It was the interaction that was completely weary and if not discrimination, beyond rude. I do agree with my friend that there was something else happening. Even if it wasn't discrimination- at a very low level of expectations- what happened to customer service? What happened to, "hi, can I help you?", and then to charge me $27 for it? I don't care how good the food is, I would never go to this place again.
