I know this place is hit or miss but damn! Lately it's more miss than hit. It's bad enough that the" jumbo "shrimp are always smaller than they should be but the seafood is getting ridiculous. I bought three five lb drums and all of them had worms. You expect them in the big bulls but this size? Also they didn't even try to remove them. They just left them there like they were an added bonus for me in case I decided to go fishing and they just provided me with free bait. This place is just progressively going down hill. Baybrooks is like a fusion of Golden Seafood and Rose's, both just down the way. Why? Well, their selection is just as good as Golden, but much cleaner like Rose's. There was a young Asian kid worker (think his fam owns BFS) who helped me pick out some snapper at around $3/lb. He also gave me some cooking tips. I'll be back, but as I mentioned in my last review of Rose's, you should hit up all three nearby markets first and do some price and quality comparisons. read more

I should probably hit up Golden Seafood the next time I go out just to price shop, but I did hit up Rose's as well. Before I made the hour drive to Baybrook I called ahead to see what prices on crawfish were like. I was skeptical and planned on skipping this place for Rose's cheaper selection, but when Rose's could only supply me with only 34 lbs of the 100 that I needed, I dropped by Baybrooks. So the prices are higher than Rose's, but the crawfish they sold were of the jumbo variety. "How big is jumbo?" They showed me some of the biggest mudbugs I've ever seen in my entire life and for only 20 cents more a pound than Rose's small mudbugs. I actually started taking pictures! Pros: Holy heck those crawfish were huge. Lots of variety. Very nice people. Not as clean as Roses, but Baybrook's crawfish were actually a lot cleaner. I have been deviating from my usual Emory's jaunt because I do not care for the male owner (brother of the lady that usually assists me), and I think the last 2 times I purchased from there, the shrimp were approximately 2 days away from spoiling. When I ventured to Kemah's seafood district this time, it was raining and this place has covered parking along with a stinky elevator. Either way, I didn't get wet--but I may have gotten cheated. I identified the shrimp I wanted and asked about de-veining. The gentleman told me the machine was broken (first fail). He also seemed more interested in the several other, seemingly regular, Asian customers that were bumping into me and literally walking all over me (second fail). I chose to purchase 3 pounds of the largest shrimp; however, I did not stand and observe them being placed into the bag (my fail). When I got home to begin the task of de-veining and de-shelling, it was clear that smaller shrimp were mixed in with a few larger shrimp (last and final fail). I mean really: just because I may be a new, non-typical customer that doesn't feel the need to oversee everything you do does not mean that you take full advantage of my trusting nature. I won't be returning, but I will definitely be on the hunt for another seafood vendor that appreciates my business, understands the benefit of honesty, and enjoys my company. read more

Great customer service and product!!! Every year we have a huge crawfish boil for friends and always stress whether or not crawfish will be available at our usual place. A friend recommended these guys and she was right. We went in a week ahead just to check them out. We were immediately greeted by several friendly faces. Mike helped us out and told us he saw no issues getting 130lbs of crawfish that Friday. He said he would call me Wednesday afternoon just to give me a heads up if anything changed. He followed through and called with a confirmation. We arrived Friday morning and were able to get 180lbs of crawfish with no issues! They were good sized and all healthy. We cooked again the following day because they were all still alive. We've used a place in Texas City for many years and have always felt they were rude and annoyed by are business. So happy to have found this place. We will be switching to them for now on. read more

VERY AFFORDABLE & FRESH! Wow this place is cheap! Was looking for a place to buy fresh salmon and 3 of my friends suggested this place. I couldn't be any happier. The price here is 3x less than the amount I was paying somewhere else. I ended up buying the whole salmon. They cleaned the fish, scaled it, and filleted the fish for me as well. I didn't have to do any dirty work when I got home, all I had to do was cook it! It tasted amazing. High quality fresh fish and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Went here after Rose Seafood because they would not sell me a cut of the king fish. This place had a cut of king fish filled with roe which made my mom so excited. They also had fresh shark meat for only $1.59 per lb. The guy who was helping us was pretty bad with prices. He told me that 3 lbs of salmon fish heads at $1.09 per lbs was over $10 bucks, so I had to check everything I bought twice from him. IT was better to see them clean the fish there than at Rose's Seafood, and they also had love crabs which was not at Rose's. The place is smaller than Rose's and I am actually only comparing this to there. I think the next time I go into that area, I will try some other places to have a better comparison of prices, quality and customer service. read more

Baybrooks is my favorite place out of the other fish places on the Kemah waterfront, I occasionally buy from the others but Baybrooks has been very consistent with price and quality over the years compared to others. They almost always have about at least 4 or more sizes of shrimp and have a discount for I believe 5 lbs or more. Crawfish has been as good as I've had. The seafood is fresh. It is always a little more expensive than others but still cheaper than Rose's seafood. However, the customer service is not that pleasant. Especially the "Asian looking" guys and looks like they are brothers, who both have black lips and the face always grumpy and mean looking. They are very rude to me every time I come there. I spend around $200 to $300 each time and I asked the dark lips grumpy looking guys for help to bring down to the car and he REFUSED TO HELP AND POINTED HIS FIGURE TO THE ELEVATOR AND TELL ME. .. "USE THE ELEVATOR OVER THERE" .....OMG... WHAT'S A CUSTOMER SERVICE! I've haven't been back since. The people there always act like they don't need customers. If I could give minus stars I would. Picked up two bags of crawfish yesterday to take to family in midtown. Opened them up less than an hour after picking them up to start cleaning them. I hit up about 3 or 4 seafood places on Waterfront and to me, Baybrooks was the best by far. They had the best variety, a good selection of spices and auxiliary items, and as was mentioned, Snapper. Cheap. Lots of fresh, gulf, shrimp in all sizes. By far the best customer service of the places I visited (friendly, helpful, provide leak proof bags with ice for all items). I will update this after I actually eat the fish, but I had a very pleasant experience at this fish market. We were greeted when we entered, almost immediately an employee asked us if we needed assistance and he was very patient to answer questions that we had. While we pondered if we wanted some shrimp to go along with our fish, the employee said he'd work on filleting our fish and he'd be back. We got the shrimp from another helpful employee and then waited for our fish to be done. The checkout process was smooth and courteous. When we got home we took the fish out to separate and prep it and the fillets were clean and cut quite nicely! I will definitely return to Baybrooks in the future. They don't have as much fish as Rose's, but they are definitely more friendly, courteous, and appreciative of their customers. Rose's on the other hand acts like you owe them something and the employees couldn't care less about providing prompt and courteous service. read more

I've been here several times, to buy red snapper and shrimp. I've watched them filet the red snapper in the back, just came in off the boat. It was so fresh when they dropped it on the ice it was still bloody, no fishy smell, more like cucumbers. Price is great, too, at about $3 per pound depending on time of year. They will load you up with ice too, if you need to keep a big order cold. Good place. read more

I usually do not yelp places I go to eat or shop, because of my laziness. Then again I had to yelp Baybrook Seafood since I have been going there for my fresh seafood for years. I was there for Memorial weekend and shopped for my party. When I step in to front door I was greeted by the employees right away and ask if I needed help. Even as busy as they were they acknowledge me promptly. I ended up buying shrimp, fish, crabs and crawfish. I was planning on only getting some fish and shrimp. Then after seeing the size of the crabs and crawfish. I had ended up buying that too. I would have to say that every time I come there I always come home with more then I was planning on purchasing. I have been to all the other stores before, but was never satisfied by there service, freshness, and prices. I have never had any issues with there seafood after my purchase and cooked it for my guest. Baybrook Seafood is my number one place to shop. read more

I have gone to Baybrooks for years (even before the hurricane demolished the building). However, the last two times I have gone to Baybrooks, I have received very poor customer service. While I like the seafood, it is inexcusable to have rude, unfriendly workers. The workers don't smile, they look as though they hate their job and they rush you to hurry up and order. We were there today (Sat.) around 2 pm, it was not crowded and we were a group of 10 women. I spent $100 and I'm sure many of the other ladies spent almost as much. Many of the ladies complained about the service once we boarded the bus. If I am paying for something, I should be able to choose what I want, not what you want me to have. If you say you want the small shrimp and before they can bag it, change your mind to the larger shrimp, they become very upset and begin hastily throwing your items into the bag. My motto is 3 strikes and you're out, so they have one more opportunity to keep my business or I will take it to one of the other seafood markets located there.
