This time it wasn't my Yelp suggestion to come here, instead it was from my one minute apart younger sister, who is also a Yelper that mentioned this place to my mum. I told my mum for Christmas I don't want the same ole holiday meat of turkey since I had that for Thanksgiving. I wanted something more tasty: fried fish and shrimp. Preferably a grand tasting fish: Red Snapper. Yup, oh boy yes, that good ole thick and ocean tasting red fish. Upon our arrival, my mum, sister and I walked to this fairly large building with a mountain high of stairs. Once inside the fish market smelled of its native catch and it was strong. However, the owner seen how we crunched our noses up in disgust. She immediately started to ease the smell by cleaning the floors with some mopping solution. That masked the odor a little bit until we left. Anywho, the fishes were laid up eyes open and staring at us. Although, these fish were already dead laying on a bed of ice to keep them fresh. The prices listed were affordable and market by a pound. My mum picked out some gulf shrimp and a few pieces of red snapper. I also seen what tilapia looked like as the fish isn't very pretty, but my mum adores the taste. The Atlantic salmon was beautiful looking. There were many breeds of salmon. The sheepshead fish was definitely cheap and the taste of it is amazingly soft and delicious. I sampled the one my sister caught. We proceeded towards the cash register to pay and as we assumed our meat to be sky high, it actually wasn't. Additionally, when it came Christmas Day, I had myself a full meal of pan-fried red snapper and shrimp. The taste of the red snapper was delicious. For me, I enjoy eating fish that tastes from its natural habitat, it really delights my appetite for more. My dad butterflied the shrimp and wow the taste was incredibly yummy. Consequently, there's plenty of parking. The location is just near the Pier 8 restaurant and on a strip of other fish market competitors. So, choose wisely. Now, I'm glad to say my Houston family visits this fresh market often. No more shopping at Fiesta for freshness. read more

I'm pretty disappointed, I ordered 1 sack of crawfish (37 lbs) got home and started sorting and washing, already have found 4 pounds dead in one sack. A complete meals worth. Wont buy from here again. read more

I used to come to this place for blue crabs, they were very good. I also buy shrimps here regularly. However, lately, they play tricks : they put large shrimps in front of the buyers, then when asked, they get from the rear, this way, they sell you smaller ones! you know, smaller ones means they charge you more. I am not going back for shrimp for sure, I will continue to check the crabs since you pick what you buy. read more

I typically buy from Rose's Seafood, which is down the street, but I decided to check out this wholesaler yesterday. This place is different from all the others. My observations: -The lady that handles the cash register (I think she is the owner or at least runs it in some way) is the best person to ask specific questions. -Not all the males assisting are knowledgable with what is wild caught vs. farmed. Dude told me "all the fish is wild." I definitely saw tilapia and I think I saw catfish. Tilapia and catfish sold in the US are always farmed. -Compared to Rose's, they can sell half a fish versus buying the whole fish. -The crabmeat they were selling comes from New England -Their prices compared to Rose's were on average about the same read more

An innocent stop for seafood (we adore fresh shrimp and live three hours from the coast) turned into an amazing experience. We got shrimp, crab and red snapper, Lisa packed the cooler and off we went, to a car that wouldn't start. There we were, seafood in the Texas Gulf Coast 100 degree afternoon and a dead battery. Lisa saw us from the Emery's window and asked her brother Scott to come help us. Hubs had extracted the jumper cables, but several cars conveniently looked the other way, but then Scott came. He connected the cables, used a wire brush on the post and did his best to feed us enough juice to jump the car. It would not work! So this young man, who had never in his life laid eyes on us, hands my husband the keys to his truck so that he can go get us s new battery! Half an hour later, we are on our way again, better for having stopped at Emery's and meeting these awesome siblings. I went to Emery's today, 6/25/2017, for JUMBO lump crab meat. What I got was not lump crab meat..... I actually can not tell what it was; but, I can tell you it tasted awful, smelled even worst, and was the size of one small clove of garlic. I have been using jumbo lump crab meat to make stuffed shrimp since 1970 so I have keen eye and taste for crab meat. I sent my son in for the crab meat and did not look at it until we were in at home in Houston. I will never waste $35.98 at Emery's again. As a matter of fact, I agree with David Z J L, they play tricks. No, they seemed to have scammed me. Rosie's has been my place to shop and I will never go to Emery's again. Dealing with this place was a disaster!!! Incompetent workers with no knowledge of their product. Simply asked if they had black drum, 1 person said "yes they did but its only 1 left", waited for over 30 minutes to come help with them telling me that they didn't have the fish in stock... They deserve a zero if you ask me but since that doesn't apply, I guess the 1 star will have to do. Get a better staff!!! read more

I have bought oysters every where and last week I bought a gallon here at Emery's and it was the BEST oysters I've ever bought they were very fresh and tasted delicious. -1 !This place is the worst of the worst. I went this morning and paid good money for a 34 pound bag of crawfish. Mind you it's the middle of April. They should be at least medium if not huge, got the bag home and they were full of little things that looked like they should've been served back in February. A complete rip off. Avoid this place! I was planning a crab boil for several people and needed a large amount of blue crabs. I called ahead to check on availability, and the staff at Emery's Seafood assured me the crabs would be ready when I got there. I have never been here but my wife has and she said it was amazing. She bought a couple of fishes and they took it to the back and filleted them for her.
