A very nice park for playing, picnicking or taking your dog to the adjacent Dog Park. We came upon this almost by accident. Looking for a place to have a picnic lunch after the Corvette Museum and before visiting the Lost River Cave. This is a park along Cave Mill Road. The full name of the park is Bark Park at H.P. Thomas Park. It is off the north side of the road and has a large area to the entire park. There is a small parking lot with spaces for about 20 cars. There is a building overlooking a green that has bathrooms and several tables under the patio away from the parking lot and overlooking the fields. The sign for the park was slightly hidden by the overgrown shrubbery. There are large fields directly in front of the building and a dog park that is off to the left as you face away from the road. The dog park seemed rather busy with many people parking and bringing their furry family for playtime at that part of the park. It was a very pleasant place for a picnic with convenient facilities and good location under cover. A solid place for a pleasant break in the Bowling Green area. read more

Pros: this is a very large all grass park with a few trees and several benches (additional benches added in mid 2019). The parks dept cuts the grass faithfully every Tuesday and they have done some very helpful maintenance by filling holes and planting grass near the shelter area. There is a water faucet for humans and dogs (turned on during the summer months). There are always poop bags available. There is limited shade available from the trees and the canvas cover that is put up in summer months. During off hours, there are very few people at the park. The small dog park is very similar, but about a 1/3 the size and there are hardly ever any dogs in it. Cons: the users of the park rarely pick up after their dogs, so there is crap everywhere. The parking lot is quite small, so at peak hours, you sometimes must park in the grass (no big deal). Overall, an excellent dog park. read more

We took our dogs to this dog park while we were traveling through bowling green Kentucky. The park had two fenced areas which were for a large dog and the other a small dog fenced area. There were just a few dogs at the park while we were visiting the park. The park had a small parking lot and it was a short walk to the fenced areas but we had a large enough area to play. The park had a pavilion with picnic tables and very clean men and women's bathrooms. This was a great place to find and a needed break while traveling through to our destination. read more

For socializing with your dog, you can't beat this dog park. They have two sections. One for dogs under 30lbs and the other for larger dogs. They have poop bags for owners to remove the "presents" left by their pets. Also, there is running water to fill bowls and seating areas. The spaces are plenty big enough to play with your dog and secured by fencing all around. Parking can be difficult from the Cave Mill Rd side at times. read more

This dog park is a classic case of "you have to take the good with the bad". It really just depends on the day and the people and pooches in attendance if you are going to have a good time or not. The cons: There are too many out of control dogs, with equally out of control owners. I can't tell you how many times my dog has gotten snapped at, bitten, or bullied at this park and the owners of the out of control dogs have just sat by and left it happen. Going along with the owners that don't bother to keep their dogs under control comes the owner that come to the park, let their dogs loose, and ignore them. The owners are often reading, or too busy chatting to monitor their dogs properly. Guess what happens when dogs are monitored?! Yep, you guessed it. 1. dog fights (it just happens) and 2. dogs poop, and when the owners are "busy" neither situation is dealt with. Unhealthy or unaltered dogs. What else can I say. I have seen some dogs that REALLY needed a trip to the vet attend this park.There really should be a membership fee and required vet records in order to get a membership. We travel to Chicago, often, their dogs parks are beautiful, I wish ours was more like theirs. They require memberships, up to date records, and dogs that are under control. You have to pay to be a member, but comparatively to the costs of caring for a dog, the fees are small. I gladly pay the dues and I am only there twice a year at most. Some may say they can't afford it, well then you probably can't afford to properly care for your dog either and shouldn't have one. There's a "cool" (in their eyes) kids club. That's right, a group of 20-40 somethings that make their selves at home. Lawn chairs blankets the whole she-bang. That's all fine and dandy except they are rude and get pissy when your dog goes in "their" territory. Yeah, I know get a life. Some of the little dog people bring their little dogs on the big dog side then get mad when your big dog accidentally runs their ankle bitter over! I say ankle bitter because there is a small dog that insists on nipping at my dogs legs, it's so irritating to me and especially to my dog. People let their dogs "swim" in the water bucket. It's gross. There is a nice cement pad with benches, but the area around it, a constant mud hole. It's called mulch invest in some. The pros: When the good dogs are there with good owners it is a lot of fun. The area is pretty big and the gates are double to help prevent escapees. The poo bags are rarely empty, and the running water is usually available. I personally don't attend this park anymore, simply because it needs so many improvements which mostly pertain to the attendants. read more

This dog park sounds great on paper, but in reality, there are several issues that need to be addressed. 1) When walking from the Cave Mill Rd. entrance, there's no obvious sign stating which side is the small dog or big dog side. There also aren't very many bag receptacles for waste. 2) The park is HUGE, and the ground isn't level. This means your dog can easily run out of sight. I like to be able to see my dog at all times, in case another dog is aggressive or being too rough with my dog. There's also the concern that a dog could pick up something unsafe that's been dropped by someone or that a dog could slip out one of the gates, while out of their owner's sight. 3) There's no water fountain for the dogs. There's just a faucet and two buckets, but the buckets are often dirty. There's usually quite a bit of mud around the faucet area, presumably from the faucet being left on or because the buckets constantly have to be emptied and refilled, to prevent them from becoming nasty, muddy water. Having a doggy water fountain would conserve water (because the buckets wouldn't have to be rinsed out over and over, to get the caked mud out) and it would be more hygienic than drinking from a bucket full of standing water. 4) There is barely any shade. It makes it miserably hot for both dogs and owners during the summer time. There's a tent the owners can sit under, but dogs can easily run out of sight. I've noticed that this often means owners just continue to sit under the tent and don't supervise their dogs once they get out of sight. This has presented a problem multiple times, when one of the dogs was being aggressive or playing too rough with one of my dogs, and the owner isn't even around to correct their dog. ____________________________________ Of the issues I listed, #2 is definitely a deal breaker for me. I've had too many issues with other dogs chasing my dogs and running them over (intentionally), being aggressive, or otherwise being too rough with them. It's impossible to bring two dogs and keep an eye on both of them, because they often go to opposite ends of the park. Due to the hills, I can't even watch both of them from a distance. It's hard enough keeping up with ONE dog at a time, because I constantly have to move around the park to keep them within eyeshot. From now on, I'll only be bringing them to smaller dog parks, where I can give my dogs the appropriate supervision, to ensure they aren't attacked by another dog, stolen by someone, or accidentally allowed to slip through the gate. read more

So, I wanted to write a review since the rest are all too old. It is a nice wide open fenced area for dogs to run free with the wind in their fur... My PRO's 1. Lots of doggies and their parents! 2. This park is HUGE! Lots of secluded areas to play with my dog without leashes or distractions. 3. Did I mention all the DOGGIES?!?!?! Some of the cons have been taken care of. There is a proper water fountain now. It's still a little muddy but its a dog park so it's to be expected. My cons are: 1. There is not enough seating in the little dog area. There is plenty on the big dog side, I wish it was equal. And the water fountain on the little dog side is gross. 2. I wish there was a public dog agility course in addition to the wide open space. (let me know if there is one somewhere else and I just don't know about it!!) It would make better trained dogs and thus more pleasant interactions between dogs/owners and others. A note to the dog owners who complain about aggressive dogs. If you take a few dog training courses, even look some up on the interweb, you can learn how to make a dog like that back off and not bother you or your dog. It will not do any good trying to change other's behaviors, you have to learn how to handle yourself. read more
