Horse Cave KOA is one of the best campgrounds I have stayed in. Friendly staff and extremely well kept grounds. The bathrooms/showers were unbelievably clean and updated. Stayed here in one of the covered wagon. I thought it would be hot but each wagon a ductless mini split and it worked quite well. The view of rolling hills made me think I was truly living in a covered wagon. The bathroom house was literally right across from the covered wagons so getting up in the night to use the bathroom wasn't so horrible. The pool was ok, seemed a little greener than blue and the water was so warm from the heat that it was more like bath water but still refreshing. Overall a great stay here! read more

KOA is clean. Staff was friendly Has internet but can't stream as you have to watch ad before you can use it which I didn't care for. Pool was closed Sept 10 which was a bummer as it's 85 today. I didn't use bathrooms or laundry however people I talked to said there very nice & clean. read more

The campgrounds has cabins teepees and even conestoga wagons as well as full and partial hook ups for RVs. Bathrooms are more like home with showers and/or tubs, toilets and sinks. Exceptional clean. Campsites 38-44 are on the edge of a sharp drop off which was a little concerning when setting up read more

With being a KOA worker I'm a bit disappointed with this place. When we first got here the site had alot of standing water at the water supply. I though it was from the previous Camper. Once I hooked up and turned it on I saw that it was the valve. I went to the office told the young girls, she said she would tell maintenance. Well nobody came so 3 days later I went back and talked to an older lady....had a guy out in under an hour and fixed it. The trash at the Pavillion next to the playground was full for our first 4 days here and the smoker/grill at the playground is rusted out and way past being able to be used. NONE of the pull through 50 Amp sites are level, make sure you have plenty of lego or wood for leveling. The whole park is on the side of the hill so you get a good view of the surrounding from any spot. The sites are in a step pattern separated by the roads. We were impressed with the bathrooms, they are updated, big and clean. There's a big play area for the kids which they liked but the favorite part (jump pillow) had a hole in it and isn't working. The girls like to feed all the animals we come across so seeing 3 horses at the barn and ducks at the pond were great. We didn't use the laundry room but it was big and nice. read more

We booked a stay in the wagons and i have to say, i was weary. I heard covered wagons and saw some reviews of the camp site and i wasn't very excited BUT we arrived and went into the wagon... omg. Stayed in a deluxe cabin, it was a little run down with a broken window and light fixture. It was not as nice as the previous KOA we had stayed at. They had a really neat looking slide but said it was only for use on weekends. Mini golf course was pretty rough looking. I liked that they had a nice playground, volleyball court, free coffee, connect four games and the bouncing pad. read more

We have stayed at many KOAs and this was very disappointing. We did the reservation online, fully disclosed our length w/slideouts, and nowhere did it state that it was a curved pull through site. Very unlevel -- at least 6"from side to side -- choosing the best area without it being worse, The only place for a picnic table is in front or behind the rv as the road is so close s and not able to put out the awning either. The description of the site should be more forthcoming! read more

Stayed here on my husbands birthday weekend and really enjoyed the covered wagon, but man this camp ground is wayyy too close to the loud interstate. Thank God we had our sound machine with us or it would've been a rough night sleeping. The wagon was a neat experience but there were mozzarellas sticks left in the microwave from the previous campers and a drink laid over on its side in the freezer....... Not to mention the spider webs on all of the light fixtures. Highly disappointed in the location and cleaning done. read more

I have stayed in campgrounds all over the west on several cross-country RV trips. This is the best. They had so much to offer old school, playground toys, Conestoga, wagons, teepees, tree, houses, lots of nice pull through sites with fire pits and wood on the honor system. This is a nice campground! We didn't see the deer, but a family of ducks stayed near our cabin. The deluxe cabins are cute, perfect for a small family. I was concerned about the heat and if air would circulate well. We brought two fans from home and that helped keep it cool. There were some rotting spots of wood in the cabin and carpenter ants. The door had a peg on it that my arm kept running into so that was frustrating. The door to the bedroom was missing it's latch so it wouldn't stay shut. The playground seemed well kept. Mini golf and pool were aged, but again well kept. I could not compliment the staff more, they were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. read more

Worst KOA we've stayed at yet, and we have stayed at many across the county! Site was not long enough to park our 34' RV, plus towing - this was all disclosed when booking - so we had to pull in the site and jack knife the trailer. After squeezing into the VERY UNLEVEL site we were not only 6" downhill, but now leaning to the right as well. Parking the rig to fit in left the "amenities" you pay for unreachable - so other than power we were practically dry camping... My husband went to talk to the front desk/manager - we were told the owner won't be in until tomorrow. About 20 min later the very mouthy/rude receptionist called us to say that "they don't want unhappy campers and we can just leave!" All this on a Friday night of a holiday weekend. RUDE and terrible customer service! Honestly, not up to the "KOA" standards. Trash in fire ring, cigarette buts all over and the dog area's fence has huge holes in it where my dog went under and over to the other side. read more

This campground is literally next to 65 right off of exit 58. So there is tons of highway traffic 24/7 nonstop. I got a better rate calling that reserving online. Check in was interesting. I have been camping most of my life ranging from pulling my travel trailer to tent camping. This weekend, I went tent camping. I called and spoke to the lady and asked for a rv site with electricity since all the tent sites were booked. She happily assisted me. I arrived and checked in. The young girl at the desk took my payment and asked me if I wanted a koa card. I said "no" and she said good choice. She also asked if I would like firewood. I said "yes, 3 bundles" and she was not thrilled with me because she had to count out the wood and deliver it to my site...... The site.....I'm in a tent, no shade, uneven And forever away from the only shower house/ bathroom in the park. The campground is on 4 levels. All the sites are pull through. The only good shaded sites are the cabins. The poor petting zoo doesn't even have good shade from the afternoon sun. There are no activities. Pool is average size inground home size. The younger employees really don't care about their job. They really just enjoy smoking and driving the golf cart around. Bath house is small. 2 toilets on men's men's side and 2 on women's. They are clean. But I can't get over that there is one one bathhouse. 93 sites and only 2 extra toilets?!? Stairs to bathhouse (which is connected to the office) is not lite up. There's no handicap accessible anything here. I'm just really amazed how this is acceptable. If you are grilling food, you will need a grate or tripod. Sites just have Fire ring. read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews, but it's 4:30 in the morning & I'm ( literally) not a happy camper. We stopped here on our way to Tennessee. It was 9pm before we got here & we were tired. Needless to say, we did not get much sleep. We were in the pull thru sites & literally next to I65. The noice from the expressway kept us up all night. We definitely will not be back. read more

What a disappointment this place was for a KOA Holiday Campground! We were unable to reserve a full hook-up site, although there was one open all week until the Friday before we left on Saturday morning. We were in a site with no shade and we could not level our RV at all. The best thing about this place was the bath house (only one location with about a dozen shower/toilet stalls, but we had to drive to it because of the distance from our site. The playground equipment was old and rusty; sitting on the edge of a big hill. The kids did enjoy the jump pillow! When we were ready to dump the black & gray tanks, because the dump was on the incoming side of the road, we had to go out of the park to turn around and get lined up with the dump. Problem was, the place was so unleveled, the tanks wouldn't drain. We found a full hook-up site that was empty, parked there long enough to dump the tanks. All in all, this place needs a lot of work on the infrastructure. And just because it's called a KOA Holiday...it is over-priced for what you get. I thought KOA had higher standards than we found here. We will not return and will read reviews in the future before staying at another KOA. read more

I found a lot of improvements to this older KOA, and I was very pleased with my 1 night stay. Front desk workers were very pleasant. There are many outdoor activities to do, aside from walking or running, there's a pool (weather permitting), mini golf, inflatable bounce dome, basketball court, catch-release pond, dog play areas, & playground with a mix of new and older, but in good shape equipment. The older swings (2 sizes--little kids and older kids), and seesaws, appeared to be quite safe, and brought me back to my childhood...I recently turned 60 If you don't have an rv or tent, there are a few other lodging options...small and medium cabins, along with nicely appointed Conestoga wagons--yes you read that correct, and they are heated-cooled-bunk beds-looks like a queen bed-with a patio that has a grill, park bench, picnic table, fire pit with 4 chairs. There's also Tree Houses...yep you read that correct also-which have patios underneath . So if that isn't enough, they even have a couple a TeePees with modern interiors. The rv sites vary in size and hookups, so check when making your reservation. Sites have picnic tables, and fire pits. There are bath houses and a laundry facility. I would definitely stay here again and would also recommend it to anyone looking for a fun place to unwind. BTW, I-65 is 200 yards away but is unnoticeable inside my rv...and outside, it'll nearly lull you to sleep! read more

As others said, it's close to I-65, so it's convenient for days trips but close enough to hear the road noise because the camp is uphill from the freeway. Bathrooms are very clean, showers are in good condition, and the off-leash dog area is a great touch. Back in trailer/RV spaces have very good shade, but closer to the interstate the pull thru spots are in full sun. Lots to do in the area within a 45 minute drive, making this campground a great choice for your home base. read more

I honestly hate to leave a poor review here, but people should know what they are getting into. When you pull in, it looks beautiful, covered wagons, trees, etc. What they don't tell you is the full hookups are down the hill basically in a parking lot with no trees whatsoever. The sites are extremely unlevel. It took a while to get our rig level. Everything is super far away too. If you want to use a bath house you have to take your car. I have a feeling this part of the campground was added in later. The worst part. I-65 is right there. Trucks brake all night. The road noise is so loud I slept with a pillow over my ears. You also get way too much light pollution from the freeway to enjoy the evening sky. I was just super disappointed with the whole experience. If you are stopping over one night to see Mammoth Cave, you will be fine, but any longer and you will be miserable. Way too spendy for what you get. read more

People are very kind I would recommend as a great place to stop over night maybe teo to see mammoth cave IF comstant highway noise doesmt bother you. This was the WORST campground we've been to!!! We called on the way to inform them that we were delayed by traffic and accidents. We arrived after hours only to find the site they assigned us was scribbled out and occupied. The second site was also occupied and had been there for the past MONTH!! We called the office and had to leave message. Someone called us back and said they must have given us the wrong site number and to go to the one next to that. We didn't fit! Our 40' motorhome and car in tow on a dolly was jutting out into the road! Plus the grade was so steep we would never have been able to level it without the wheels coming off the ground. By now it's almost 10 pm and we're tired (drove 15 hours) and angry. The woman said just find another site up top and we'll get another site in the morning. WHAT???? Now we settle on a roadside- literally- "site" to plop until daylight. In the morning we were given "the best site" that everyone requests. This was directly across from the playground... Which we SPECIFICALLY requested originally to be the furthest site from! The site accommodated our vehicles and length but had a pretty good grade to it. The huge dead tree with a big orange "X" on it concerned us as it was directly over our motorhome and seated in the strong winds and rain we experienced the last night we were there!!! We heard the shrill screaming of children at 7am on the playground as they ran among the broken and delapitated equipment. The swing set had broken chains. The wooden pirate ship was rickety and rotting with nails sticking through the floorboards. There was discarded and filthy children's UNDERWEAR and socks that were there for the four days we were there!!!!! The ONLY good thing about this KOA was the kind and genuine lady in the office during the day. She just had hip surgery and sat in there from 8am-7pm with her walker next to her. She chatted with us about the best things to see and do in the area. Her advice was spot-on and we enjoyed the day trips she suggested. Without her presence we probably would have left the morning after we arrived!!! KOA corporate should really do a site visit here to see how these owners are representing their company. Even though they did comp us for the 1st day, we would NOT stay here again. read more

It's great that they are right off the interstate, but you can hear the traffic. It's not overly loud, just not the quiet you normally expect from a campground. We had one of the tent spots with water and electricity. Unfortunately, we had the one tent spot that was set up for a RV (a 110 plug on the pole). when we said something at the front desk they were surprised and quick to give us an adapter to use. The restrooms were very clean and well kept, in fact they close them for a half hour every day to clean them. The employees were very friendly. The showers weren't very hot, but being the beginning of September it was acceptable. It could have been the time of night that we went and just low on hot water. Although small the pool was very nice. The mini golf course did look as though it needed some up keep. My kids enjoyed playing but you could see some of boards and they found out that the ball could get stuck in one spot. Over all it's a nice campground, and despite the interstate noise relatively quiet. We had a great time. read more

The dog park is amazing and the pool was really warm. The blob was really fun and the community with all of the animals felt really welcoming. I love the fact that the animals can be on your picnic table as soon as you wake up. And the fact that we could play 18hole mini golf for free!!! read more

I wish I would have taken pictures. The cabin we stayed in was nice. It had a satellite TV, kitchenette and bathroom with shower. They provide the linens and blankets. Outside the cabins have a fire pit, Adirondack chairs and a picnic table. The campground itself was pretty small but the cabins are worth the money if you're just passing through. Its not the nicest KOA I've stayed at but it met our needs for an over night stay. The best part was the staff. We left and received a call about a hour after we left. We had left our daughters blanket and a few of her stuffed animals behind that she has had since she was a baby. If we made it all the way home it would have been a pretty emotional event upon realizing we had lost those items. The housekeeper found the items while cleaning the cabin and held them for us at the office so we could come get them while passing back through. Awesome. read more

We had a great few days here while visiting Mammoth Cave. The amenities were great, the bathhouses were clean, and it was very convenient. We stayed in our RV but the wagons had a gorgeous view! The sweet gal in the office was very helpful and hard working. My only complaint is the dryers in the laundry room took at least two cycles to dry. This is a great stop! read more

Most relaxing koa I have say. Horses , chicken , and cat are super cute and friendly but only think I dislike is the bathroom are so far away. Also, the shower were dirty when I went in there and the water never cold it very very hot hot hot water so be carful with ur kids in those shower they are so hot. read more

My wife and I stayed on sat 6/16/12. It was fantastic! Staff was helpfull and friendly. Bathrooms were clean. The pool was great. This koa is located right off the highway (65). You can hear the traffic but it didnt bother us. The campground was clean and peaceful. The giftshop and office is nice and airconditioned. We had great cell signal and free wifi that reached our campsite. This koa is very close to all the attractions. Horse cave & cave city are great places. Thanks for a fun weekend.
