These people are amazing. Most kind and sincere people and they don't try to crush you on pricing. I've bought my son 2 bikes there and the owners are so nice and honest it's unreal. Support this local business. There are MANY bike shops nearby and you will not get oversold or overpriced. They genuinely seem like they want more people to cycle and haven't fallen into the trend of selling e-bikes to kids which is super irresponsible and thankfully BSO and PBSO is doing something about it (the bikes not the store). I got an amazing deal on my kids new "wheelie bike" and the owner (and I believe his wife or the other female owner) is always super cool to make adjustments and they are quick and efficient. They helped make sure she assembled it correctly, solving any potential problems, plus serviced both of our bikes so they would be in tip top shape. This is a family owned business. In fact, My parents bought me a bike here when I was a teenager many years ago. They have been around since the 80's. I was looking to replace my bike that I sold, and looked at a few places. I found the best bike for me at this place. I didn't want a bike that was too expensive and I wanted one that was lightweight. I am very happy with my purchase. Dee was very patient as I test drove 3 bikes each a couple of different times. There was no hard sell, or pressure. I went there about a year ago to look at electric bikes, and I found the same friendly and non-pushy service. They provide free adjustments for the first year after purchase. I would recommend this shop. read more

I came into Hillsboro Bicycle Center to have my bike tuned up, and have a set of training wheels put on my son's bike. John was our contact person. He first asked why I had the bicycles ratchet strapped to the roof of my SUV, that would scratch the car...yes I was aware of that. I told him I don't have a bicycle rack. This is true, but also I couldn't put them inside the SUV because doing so caused my little boy, who is absolutely wonderful, but also happens to have special needs, to have a melt down. I'm a single mom, so I do what I can. I showed him a set of heavy duty training wheels I had purchased off amazon and asked if there was anyway to hire someone to attach them. They were missing some of the hardware since we just moved from out of state and pieces were lost. "No, they are missing pieces"...okay, I get it. I told him I was hoping since they were a bike shop, maybe they had some hardware that would fit. "No"-the bike shop purchases high quality bicycle equipment from qualified dealers and all the pieces are included...okay, I get that too-amazon isn't the best place to buy parts for a bicycle. I ask if they have any "heavy duty" training wheels or maybe a set for adults since my son has had issues with standard training wheels and a difficult time learning. He explains that training wheels are "only meant to stay on the bike for a few months" and then the child learns to ride unassisted, and that adult training wheels are upwards of $500....okay, I get it... I show him a balance bar (one of those bars to have on the back of a bicycle to hold the bike steady for the child while they learn to balance) I also hoped to have installed and explain to him that even with the training wheels and balance bar, my son still had issues so I was hoping a sturdier set of training wheels may help...the response "that's totally different than training wheels"....yes, yes it is. He informed me that I would need to purchase a set of their training wheels which they could attach...okay, I get that too-not a problem, I took a look at their training wheels and mention that the weight limit is 66 lbs, and my son is already over that weight...John states "yes, that's because by the time a child is 6 or 7, they shouldn't be using training wheels"...okay, thanks for that. Not really interested in what children "should" be doing...Also somewhere in the conversation there was also a mention that I would need to "teach my son" how to ride....I can only assume he thought I hadn't taken the time to teach him, not that he has certain learning challenges....okay....we aren't on the same page. He then mentions that the training wheels he suggested we attach (the high quality ones from the shop) would "bend a lot easier"...okay-sounds unsafe. I told John thank you and walked towards the exit. I had come to realize there was little hope he could help. John still wanted to show me the children's bikes. He motioned to the ones with training wheels..."these are ones for younger children, see they have training wheels"...and these (he motions to another set of bikes without training wheels) are for children who are 6-7..."they don't have training wheels, because they don't need them"....okay...not sure that I needed "proof" that a child my sons age (who is a newly turned 6 by the way) shouldn't be using training wheels...and I definitely didn't need John to announce that in front of my son....Believe it or not, human beings have feelings. I'm sure that doesn't make him feel good about himself, and I'm sure he is trying his best. The entire experience was insensitive and offensive. I wouldn't recommend John or Hillsboro Bicycle Center...especially if you are the parent of a child who happens to NOT be neuro-typical, or you're a person of ANY age who would like to learn to ride a bike...keep in mind, according to John, the top authority on how and when people should learn how to ride a bicycle, if you're over the age of 5, apparently you've waited too long. Way to make the love of cycling accessible to all! read more

Follow-up review. Five weeks after I bought my bike here I got a flat tire. Small puncture. Brought it in and was immediately greeted, tube replaced and out the door within 10 minutes. Only charged for the tube. Really pays to support a local retailer. read more

We called the store, looking for a bike for our granddaughter. This was during the pandemic crisis, when nobody had bikes in stock. There was no answer, so we left a meaaage, and we figured that was that, and continued our search. Well, not only were we surprised when Dee called us back within 20 minutes, but she had THREE models that might work for us! AND she would hold one till we got there over the weekend. When we arrived she had sold one of the three, but allowed our granddaughter to test ride the other two, as well as another in the shop. Dee was patient with us, as our teenager had a difficult time deciding. After (finally) making a selection, Dee set up the bike for our granddaughter, and gave her some instructions on how the gears and brakes worked. And we were on our way. It was a pleasure dealing with a family-owned business that has been there for 36 years. And it was easy to see how they have succeeded through two generations of family ownership. The store was the successor to one her father-in-law had in NY and then moved it to Florida 36 years ago. It's now operated by Dee and her husband. The owner John was very attentive and his wife was lovely on the phone and in person. John allowed me to test ride different bikes and was very well informed about each one, gave me pros and cons, tips and everything I needed. I bought a European-style city bike that was perfectly assembled and calibrated to my height and reach, all for a great price. i needed a mirror for my new e-bike and after reading the glowing reviews, i decided to go there. well, the reviews are good for a reason, they deserve them! i bought the mirror and John kindly installed it. then i asked if he could put my rear fender on because i was able to do the front myself, but the back fender nut and bolt was way too tight. I never quite met anyone like this guy in a bike shop. I live in the neighborhood and went there once or twice not steady though. This time Went in with my bike to get flat fixed. He Fixed charged me 30 dollars and i was on way. I then almost immediately started having rubbing issues against wheels. He looked at it then adjusted some screws but he didnt mention that the tires were wrong size, he just said its good now. I then not knowing situation took to miami and rode. Wheels started rubbing again so i took to bike shop and they were ready to fix brakes saying it was brakes. Then after i said i didnt want to pay for brakes his partner said wuick fix is wheel needed to be pulled back. That helped but i still had problem after awhile. I took back to hilsboro bikes. He then said it was fender. So he removed a perfectly good fender. He then after another time said nothing wrong. I finally said screw this and took it to manufacturer which is local and they said the bike shop owner put wrong size tire on and knew it was wrong size and had to know it was wrong. They changed tire and it worked well after. This guy at hillsboro bikes Instead of refunding my money, admitting it was wrong size or changing to new tire he continued to bs me almost getting me to spend more money with him. Lost a good fender and lots of aggravating time. I havent been back nor will i return but nothing quite like this owners bullshit. Real money hungry lowlife and watch out! read more

Great service! I needed a general overhaul of my road bike before a 2 day charity ride - tune up, tires, and new clips for my bike shoes. I asked Dee about my bike seat which was uncomfortable. Instead of trying to sell me a new one, she told me the seat was a good seat and asked me to wear my bike shorts when I came back to get the bike and she would check my seat placement in reference to my body. When I went back, my bike looked brand new, rolled so smoothly, and my new clips were the manufacturer clips, not a generic brand. Dee and John together looked at me on the bike and determined the adjustments that needed to be made to alleviate the issues I was having. On top of this great service their prices were super reasonable. Honestly, for service like that, I'd pay more. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

I don't live here yet, but i stopped in the Hillsboro Bicycle Center just to see what they had to offer and ask about the local bike scene. You see, my nice Marin hardtail got swiped in nasty ole Cleveland Heights, right out of my garage. I suppose it was really for the best, since I hardly got to use it in all that snow, so I am sure the thief only had my best intentions in mind. I'd likely have fallen and broken something anyway. However, heading toward the land of sun and fun, I think I'll need a new bike to get around and for exercise (I don't know what it is, but people seem a lot thinner here than in Cleveland, go figure), so I asked the fine folks at Hillsboro a number of questions concerning bikes and the biking habits of the South Floridians. Props to the friendly and helpful nature of the proprietor, minus a star for the lack of a varied selection (no Marins) and the dearth of off-road trails for mountain bikes (not really the Bicycle Center's fault, but hey, I gotta dock someone). Came here straight from a bike shop around the corner who said it would take 2+weeks to true my front wheel and install a stem. When asked if they would just true the wheel (which is literally a 5 min job), they wouldn't. (BTW shop was completely empty) Hillsboro took care of my bike on the spot and was very helpful. They found a solution to my hard to fit stem on my customized bike and I walked out of there within minutes. read more
