I first learned of McCrearys Automotive from my 80 something year old inlaws. They were driving…read moredown route 8 in Seymour when they experienced an issue with their Toyota Highlander revving high and coasting to a stop. They immediately headed to their long time garage Seymour Auto only to learn that Seymour Auto no longer worked on cars. This was very upsetting to them because they don't like change. However the folks at Seymour Auto suggested they go to McCrearys Automotive which is their neighbor. They took that advice. Bill McCreary took them right in. After a bit of a discussion Bill suggest they leave the car with him. He also kindly offered to drive them home. They took him up on his offer. The next day Bill spent time inspecting and driving the car. He came to the conclusion that they had simply knocked the car out of drive causing the engine to rev high. He charged them a nominal fee for his time. This left them as well as me with a favorable opinion. He was honest and kind. Then back in October I needed help. My Nissan 2015 Murano developed a serious issue while I was leaving my job in the Seymour Industrial Park. McCrearys was the nearest garage and even though it was 6pm I decided to stop thinking I would just leave my car and deal with it the next day. Well as luck would have it Bill was working late and took a look at my car. Spent a solid hour discussing my issue. The next day he calmly suggested I stay calm and take a cautious approach to my problem which was also the least expensive approach. I agreed. While my vehicle there he also performed the 60,000 mile maintenance as well as brakes and an oil change. His quotes and timing were exactly as promised. No bad surprises, quite the opposite actually. You see last mother's day someone backed into my Murano and the front end plastic got all whacked out of place. Bill managed to get it all back in place like nothing ever happened. The charge for that was $0!!!. I should add Bill also worked with my schedule. I stopped at the shop on my way to work and he then drove me to work. When the car was done he came and got me. All in all I have been very impressed from the beginning and I remain that way to this day. It's great to find a garage and mechanics that are skilled and honest. McCrearys has a customer for life with my family. I recommend them to my family, friends and coworkers.

I wish I could give this place NEGATIVE 100 stars. Long story short, my car needed a new engine…read more Before ordering the engine i asked the owner 2 simple questions- were they familiar with JDM engines, and would it be a problem to switch out the EGR system, since Japanese engines do not have them. Owner said they were familiar and it wouldn't be a problem. The engine arrives, and it is NOT the engine I had ordered. No big deal, that's the engine place's problem for sending me something other than what I ordered. Had the owner of Ace Auto bothered inspecting the engine before signing off on it I could have avoided that particular issue altogether. Fast forward to installation- they hit a snag. It turns out they had NO IDEA how to switch out the EGR valve and port. That's right. After being told it wouldn't be a problem I had to look up how-to information and send it to them! We had a verbal agreement that they would keep my old engine until the used one was running in good shape. I picked up my car, pulled out of the parking lot, and pretty much pulled right back in. There was this grinding sound when the AT went from 2nd to 3rd. "Oh, that's just a shield. My welder broke so I couldn't fix it. Bring it back next week." I did bring it back the following week- to fix the grinding sound, and figure out where an oil leak was coming from. All told, I brought my car back to them FOUR times after the installation over the course of 2 months. They never fixed the grinding sound. They never fixed the oil leaks. And I had to have the car towed the fourth time because the oil leaks had gotten so bad it was actually gushing out of the engine. Had I been driving with that oil leak it is possible the engine would have been DESTROYED. I left my car with them for almost two weeks. Picked it up after hours only to get home and notice the oil is leaking from the same places it had been all along!! I called, and was told "well, we don't have time this week, bring it next week." I brought it somewhere else to get a real diagnosis, and what do you know? It was the same seals Ace Auto supposedly replaced. And then some. I called Ace Auto and spoke to the owner, and he said my car will always leak, and a shop will tell me anything to get my money. After having the work done at this other shop my car has not leaked a drop of anything. And it turns out that the grinding is something that is stuck in between engine and transmission, and the engine would have to be pulled to fix it. Also, they did not install the engine correctly- they replaced no seals, they did not take any of my BRAND new engine parts and transfer them to the new engine. AND they sold my old engine without my knowledge. How they still have a business I have no idea. AVOID these shysters. They have NO IDEA what they're doing. PS- they also broke the light switch above the backseat AND my air conditioning doesn't work. really could have used that the past few days. IDIOTS!!!

Since my sons car is rear wheel drive with front end damage they put it on dollies. As a former wrecker operator myself I do understand police tows, state rates, and additional cost and was ready for a whopper of a bill for it to be towed from Naugatuck to Wolcott. Not only did they not try and take me for a ride, they were professional and polite. A big thank you to Eric for a job well done!

My original mechanic was outstanding--he took pride in his work, communicated well, and I had complete confidence in him. Unfortunately, after he left, my experience steadily declined. To be fair, some of what happened may have simply been a series of unfortunate events, including my engine blowing while at ACI and not with me. However, what ultimately led me to take my business elsewhere wasn't just the mechanical issues--it was the complete lack of communication. The biggest problem was dealing with the head scheduler. I called numerous times, left messages, and rarely received a response. I understand that some projects take longer than others, and I would have been perfectly fine if someone had simply told me, "We can't get to your car this week because we're tied up with another project." Honest communication goes a long way. The one bright spot was Brett. He always answered my calls and assured me he would speak with the scheduler. Unfortunately, the scheduler almost never followed up with me, leaving me constantly wondering what was happening with my car. After years of frustration, I finally decided to have the car moved to another shop. To make matters worse, the waiver they required me to sign before releasing my vehicle was, in my opinion, excessive, unprofessional, and left a very bad final impression. I genuinely wanted this shop to succeed because my initial experience was so positive. Unfortunately, the lack of communication and customer service ultimately outweighed everything else. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend ACI Dynamics.
