My dog is very anxious going to the vet. This was our first visit and everyone was extremely nice and professional. They have a cat side and dog side. We entered the cat side bc sometimes people just aren't very smart. Hats off to the the vet tech and vet. They took their time with her and did their best to make her comfortable. i brought my english bulldogs to hillside for 20+ years, i was fortunate and my boys were never sick. but recently dog developed a small aggressive infection in the back of his neck. i was told the soonest they could get me in, was three months !!! i pled and begged the staff to just let me come to the parking lot, and you can send somebody out to take a quick 2-minute look, i was told "that's not our policy" but, all through covid-19 that's how business was conducted in the parking lot ! so when it comes to keeping their doors open during a crisis, that was policy... i finally found that out of state it would take him, but unfortunately the infection spread all through his body. and now, my beautiful boy is dead!!!!!! thanks for nothing hillside!!!!! read more

HORRIBLE!! DO NOT GO HERE FOR SPAYING!!! We had a NIGHTMARE experience that the vet isn't taking any accountability for! Our dog was recently adopted after being retired from having a couple litters for a local breeder. She is four years old now. We knew that dogs who are no longer puppies have the chance for a more complicated spay but never thought they would do such a terrible job on our poor dog. Spaying dogs post litter is extremely common. Honestly, they could've killed her and almost did if we didn't take action that costed us about one THOUSAND dollars! The surgery was performed, and we picked her up around 3:30pm to arrive home around 4pm. We used a ramp to place her in the car and she had her e collar on the entire time. She was never active, as she was half asleep still from the anesthesia. After arriving home, we checked her incision to see that there was some blood and a clump of staples on her belly that appeared to have fallen out. After further inspection we realized HALF OF HER STAPLES WERE OUT. Our dog was potentially sent home with half of her wound OPEN AND BLEEDING! You can imagine how scary this would be for a dog owner! Of course, the office closed at 5pm that day and we had to find another solution to a problem that should've never happened. We ended up taking her to an emergency hospital after many places turned us down due to the nature of the issue and overall risk. We finally found an animal hospital that would take her, and we rushed her there. After they examined her, they told us there were no signs of tearing or trauma that could've caused the staples to come out. It was simply that Hillside/Grace Sollenberger, did a horrific job spaying our dog. The surgeon at the emergency animal hospital did an amazing job. She opened her back up, checked everything internally, cleaned her up, and properly double sewed her wound instead of using staples. Hillside/Grace Sollenberger did an absolutely HORRIFIC job on our dog and sent her home in a bad state. We brought this to their attention, and they have told us that there wasn't anything else they could've done.... seriously? We had to spend 1k to have another doctor fix their mistakes (in addition to what we paid Hillside) and that's the only answer we can get from them. For being a location that does that procedure every day, they did an awful job, and we greatly regret putting our dog through that pain. It was a truly traumatic and costly experience. We hope our dog recovers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

I followed Dr Sollenberger from the practice in Hagerstown where she was when the practice there closed because she is a wonderful veterinarian, and I think in the time we've been coming here we've seen all the vets & they are all amazing !! I would, and have recommended this practice & would not feel comfortable going anywhere else. I travel way out of my way but that's ok, I know my kids are getting premium care!! read more

I have been there a few times and the front staff have always been pleasant. They are professional and are always kind and loving towards my pets when I bring them. Also, their prices are the best I have seen anywhere else. I have no issues refilling prescriptions through their online portal. Prices on there are a little higher than my other place in Frederick but the care is wonderful. I've only taken my pups for routine visits so I cannot review what their emergency care is like. The vets are very knowledgeable and have great bedside manner. I'm happy with them. read more

They have wonderful, caring vets, one of whom we have used over the years who does acupuncture on our dogs and it helps them quite a bit, and one of their vets actually came to our home to euthanize one of our pets many years ago and we were very very appreciative of that. Hillside put my sick cat on their cancellation list even though he had never been seen there before. Some other CT vets were quoting appts. that were weeks away and others were not even taking new patients. Not only did they put us on the list, they called back a half hour later and had a cancellation for the next day. I was able to drop him off in the morning to be seen. Dr. Broeker was very nice on the phone, explained her diagnosis and treatment and patiently answered my questions. I was very impressed and am seriously thinking that this will be my cat's new vets. I cannot say enough good things about Hillside. The vets and the office staff have been both knowledgeable and kind. We began going there quite by accident 10 years ago. Our dog appeared to have a stroke and her regular vet couldn't see her for days! I called Hillside sobbing and without ever having seen our baby in the past, an extremely kind woman calmed me and said to drop Lucy off and a doctor would see her in between scheduled appointments. We sat in the parking lot and waited. Two hours later, we were called in to talk to a vet. We have gone there with all of our pets ever since. Dr Masters is a wonderful, kind, caring and loving vet. I took my Rottweiler in the day after Christmas for a double eye infection and an ear infection, he saw us right away and was very gentle and caring towards Remmey. He gave us the right medicine at a very very very reasonable price. Today was our follow up visit, at 7:45 am - I was 5 minutes late and nobody made me feel bad for it, I was escorted right to a private room and Dr. Masters was there within 10 minutes. Remmey is doing great and Dr. Masters was very friendly again. The follow up visit was free, he even gave Remmey two treats! I would absolutely recommend this Vet to anyone with an animal they love. read more

My only real issue is they do not carry the flea medication that my dog loves, and I do not want to change to something new if he has no issues with it. The service is usually polite and quick. I've taken my dog here several times without any problem. My only wish is that when I ask for a copy of his vaccinations they look better than what they gave me on the printout. If I could give 0 stars I would. My year old kitten, Rosie, stopped eating, stopped drinking, and had diarrhea in May 2019. She lost at least a pound and was very lethargic. I took her to Hillside, they did blood work, gave her medication, and said they would let me know what the blood work care back with. A week passed of giving her two different oral medications and I never received a call from Dr. Luckily, Rosie started to eat, drink, and act her normal self. Fast forward to June 2019, the symptoms came back again. I took her to the vet on 6/29/19 to see what was wrong with my kitten. Dr. did the same EXACT blood work again on Rosie and gave me the same EXACT medicine that we received in May 2019. Rosie's health was declining daily and I was told to force medicine into her. I called back on Monday around 5:00pm because I still hadn't received the results of her bloodwork. Once Dr. finally answered, he said the bloodwork came back normal, but there were a few diseases she still could have. I was then told to force feed Rosie three syringes every three hours. This was extremely traumatic as I'm not a verified vet, barely could get her to take the medicine, and now had to force food into her. I called back a few days later because Rosie was still not eating on her own or drinking. She would hide throughout the house so I wouldn't give her medicine or force feed her. I called Hillside again and stated that Rosie still was not eating after force feeding her for almost four days. They then gave me a medicine to rub in her ear to stimulate her appetite, which worked that day. Fast forward to July 2nd 2019, even with all the medicines and force feeding, Rosie's health was still declining. Dr. recommended euthanasia as he THOUGHT she might have FIP. Not wanting to spending another $700 on more tests to put Rosie through, we opted with euthanasia because she was having trouble breathing and still was not eating and drinking. Fast forward later in the day was the most traumatic experience I will ever have. I brought Rosie in to be euthanized at 3pm on July 2nd 2019. I was brought to a room where Rosie and I waited until 3:25pm for someone to come in and sedate her. No one told me that once she was sedated that she would try to vomit up any recent food or medicine. So, there I stood holding my almost paralyzed kitten up as she was violently gagging. I knocked on the door and asked the vet technician what was wrong with her and she stated that sedation can cause an animal to vomit any recent food. THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW AFTER THE FACT. Around 3:35pm, I held my paralyzed Rosie as she struggled to breathe, waiting for the doctor to kindly grace us with his presence. He didn't come in our room to fully euthanize Rosie until almost 4:00pm! And he had to audacity to say, "Well your mom did say she want going to eat again" and "She looks extremely dehydrated" and "Her stomach is very bloated, so probably FIP". This man never said sorry and wasn't sympathetic AT ALL. Mind you I'm a 21 year old and I did this all while my family was on vacation. This vet is the absolute WORST. We tried to adopt another cat, and when the adoption center called to ask for Rosie and Snoodles medical history, ROSIE'S WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND AND THEY HAD NO RECORD OF EVER TREATING HER! They tried to cover their tracks by "hiding" her medical history. AVOID THIS VET AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! read more

To be honest, I only take my cat to the vet when she absolutely needs to. She hates car rides and I hate paying vet bills. However, in our times of need, Hillside Vet has provided my little kitty compassionate, affordable care. They're easy to schedule appointments with and offer pet drop-offs where you can leave your furball for the day and they will check on them when they have a chance. This is super convenient. Everyone that I've interacted with has been professional, friendly, and obviously an animal lover. Watching the doctor pet my cat as if she was her own made me feel confident leaving her in her care. read more

My greyhound was in distress 3 days ago. I took him to Hillside to leave him until the Vet could make time for him. I called back almost 4 hours later and he hadn't even been looked at. I explained AGAIN that the dog seemed to be in pain and needed attention. I received a call from the Dr. Tumbler that 50/50 chance malignant spleen and needed to be operated on now. I told her to get right on it. A call back and yes, it is cancer and was growing on his aorta. He was put down. I was and am devastated. She asked me if I wanted him back and I said I can't have him back anymore. She reported I either take him back or she had to cremate him and dispose of him or I must take his ashes home with me. She said these were my only options...and she cremated him and I was charged $80. Historically they have never charged me to dispose of my animals. I believe she took advantage of my distress and charged me for an unnecessary procedure. And the staff is still the same incompetent, rude, uncaring, unsympathetic humans. They haven't changed for years. I must find another Vet. read more

Took my new 5 month old kitten there on Nov. 3, 2018 for her first visit to get her shots and everything needed for a rescued kitten. To make a long story short, soon after I returned home I received a phone call from Dr. Schmid saying she had given my kitten the wrong shot---she had given it a Lyme disease shot for a dog. She explained that she and Dr. Masters had called the company that makes the vaccine and they said they "thought" she would be ok and then told me what signs to look out for In case it would have a negative effect. I was stunned--I asked her how that happened and she said the colors of the labels were the same---green! I think that stunned more because I thought doctors read labels before administering medicine or vaccines. My kitten was pretty miserable for 3 days--stopped eating--and just wanted to be in one spot and sleep--my guess is she was lucky ,as that was probably due to the Lyme disease shot on top of the other shots that she had plus some soreness from the vaccinations in the both hips. It could have been so much worse!!!!!! This was shear incompetency as far as Im concerned. Not reading what you administer to an animal is beyond comprehension. The doctor had no bedside manner and was in a hurry. As I was paying the bill and ready to walk out the door ,her assistant came running out to get the cat again because this doctor had forgotten to check her ears for earmites--an important issue for a cat that has possibly been an outdoor cat most of its life. The doctor said "these things happen"---well something like this SHOULD NOT happen and certainly can be avoided by READING!!!!! Never again will I walk thru that door with any of my--just beware! They said they would return my payment for the visit---its been over a week now and I have yet to see it-- read more
