I had my poor baby Dunn pass away on March 13. It was sudden and he had no known medical conditions. I found him in my back yard after 2 hours of being at Lowe's. Beforehand, he was playing and happy. Only 6 years old. So I was worried about my other dog... I'll get to that part after this.. I took my 6 year old pup Abbie to a new Vet Clinic (Not Countryside) today to get checked out. I got her blood work done, HeartWorm test checked, yearly vaccines that were due anyway, Lyme Disease check, and she had a limp Friday so we checked that out too and got her some anti inflammatory (he thinks it's a sprain). Last year Abbie had a tumor on her side. Without hesitation the Old Vet (Dr. Dibbern) told me that he needed to remove it immediately and send it off for testing. I was like oh okay yea, so worried that something was wrong! She went under anesthesia and $500-$600 later she was out recovering and waiting on results. It's was a fatty tumor, not cancerous. Today I had the new vet check out her new tumor and he told me that he can do a needle test to check the tumor to see if it's just fatty. The needle test was $27. I was like are you serious? My last vet said it needed to be removed. He said it's not wise to put dogs under anesthesia if there is another way. Dr. Dibbern has always had a sort of attitude but I never really paid to much attention. But Friday he was an absolute condescending jerk! When I took Dunn in who passed away, He didn't look at Dunn, didn't even look in his direction. He tried to tell me that he could have passed due to me not using the medications/ preventatives he supplies at his office! When I asked him if he could just look at Dunn he told me NO!!! When we were done the Tech said " I'll let you say your goodbyes before I put him in the freezer", Wow thanks for being so kind. This new vet told me about all the different preventive meds that are prescribed he offers that are substantially cheaper than the ones I mentioned were pushed on me. I was so mad! Countryside Vet was my old vet, and he should be ashamed of himself. After looking at his reviews over the weekend there are many others that have had the same problem with him! He does not have your pets best interest at heart! He is about the money. And when you ask him questions he is so Condescending and just plain rude!!! If you deny the most expensive meds he talks about how your putting your dog at risk! So this weekend I will be writing / reporting him to the Veterinary Board. Not only did he not give a s*** about Dunn dying, he put Abbie through a procedure that wasn't even necessary! read more

While these people seem to care about animals they lack the quality of service to earn any higher rating. They do not train the staff how to handle animals that are nervous about being at the vets. The doctor seems obsessed with ears to the point that he will overlook other issues going on with the animal. I was not impressed after several visits and will not be returning after giving them a shot. read more

I took my dog, a Pit Bull Mix puppy, to Dr Dibbern based on decent google reviews - some people said some negative things about Dr Dibbern's attitude, and I wish I had listened. The first time we took my dog there, we waited 30 minutes for our appointment - which was extremely frustrating. We then were quizzed by the vet tech about what kind of food we feed - Dr Dibbern was apparently consulted to create Hill's Science Diet - and as a result pushes it pretty hard on everyone. I don't see the point in telling everything to the vet tech, who then goes and tells the vet, and he asks you anyway when you get in there - so there is another 20-or-so minutes wasted. Dr Dibbern loves the sound of his own voice - he poked fun at my boyfriend having been in the army (his son is in the navy apparently), made fun of the fact that I'm not originally from the USA (from Australia) and generally talks down to you. We adopted our puppy from the MD SPCA - and he had demodex mange when he arrived there, had been cleared of the mange, but he was still a bit itchy, so we asked if this was because his hair was growing back, or something else. He proceeded to lecture us out of books about what both kinds of mange were, and how even though the demodex mange may be gone, he may have gotten the sarcoptic mange. APPARENTLY, it is difficult to scrape for that mange, so he decided to just treat without proof. Granted, not invasive (just a solution on the skin), but it is sometimes frustrating to be charged for a treatment for something he may not have...? And we were informed elsewhere that the original demodex treatment also treats sarcoptic mange. Like all pit bull puppies (and every other puppy I've had who is teething) - my puppy likes to chew fingers a little, especially when he gets excited. So Dr Dibbern showed the way to 'stop it permanently'. He shoved his fingers in my dogs mouth so he could 'get a taste for his fingers' and then proceeded to make my dog bite his own cheek to the point where he was yelping. This was horrifying to me, and I was in such a state of shock that he would hurt my dog. There are better ways to stop this habit that don't require pain. Dr Dibbern finished my dogs vaccinations, and gave him the lyme disease vaccination (we live on a property that is frequented by deer - so this is definitely important) and told to come back in three weeks for the booster portion of the vaccination. All in all? We paid almost $400 for the mange treatment, six months of heartworm, tick and flea preventative, lyme disease vaccination and general checkup. Due to a family emergency, we were not able to make the three week later booster shot appointment - and when we called to reschedule, were informed that we would have to start the lyme disease vaccinations all over because an extra week would render it all ineffective. Which it turns out is untrue. When we took our dog in the following week, we got there to find someone else had been scheduled at the same time as us - and so once again we got to wait. This time, instead of just the lyme disease booster, we had a few questions - our puppy is still itchy on his legs (he had an allergic reaction to one of the trees in our yard that has since been removed), and he jumped over the back of the couch a few days before the appointment and had been limping a little since. After the vet tech took down the information, she went through and relayed the information to Dr Dibbern. I heard some snide comments come from him (if you are reading this Dr Dibbern, your walls are not completely sound proof - if you want to say rude things, make sure I can't hear you), and then we finally got to go in we had to explain everything again. Now comes the moment I almost walked out (and should have) - I informed Dr Dibbern which leg was injured, and he made a comment belittling me for informing him which leg, because he's a vet and was apparently an equine vet and thus didn't need me to tell him. He saw the look of shock on my face, and said: "Just having fun with you dear." I certainly wasn't having fun. I should have walked out. He hardly touched my dog, made him uncomfortable by forcing him on his back when he wanted to check his leg, and then informed me that he would need x-rays under anaesthetic, three scrapings to check if the mange had returned and the re-start of the lyme disease vaccination (all to be performed under anaesthetic). I asked how much this would cost - all up it was going to cost upwards of $450. When I was paying $55 for him to hardly even muster a little care for my dog and be rude to me, he informed me that there was not a single plant or tree that could cause an allergic reaction in a dog in this area. There is ONE in Florida, but not any here. I am a science teacher - and I know this to be completely wrong. After a second opinion - I was informed that I had been overcharged for unnecessary treatments. AVOID THIS MAN ALL COSTS - HE IS ARROGANT AND UNCARING. read more

The one star is for Dr. Dibbern not for any of the other staff in the office. I have to agree with other reviewers that he has absolutely no bedside manner and talks down to you. He lectures and goes on and on about how he is such a great vet. I had a few bad experiences with my older cat who had various problems. He treated her for an abscess that eventually healed after hundreds of dollars in bills. (I also believe that I was overcharged by this practice.) Later on, when my cat declined rapidly and was obviously in agony and dying. I called Countryside to see if I could come in and have her put down. They showed very little compassion and said that they did not have any appointments available. I had to cold call other vets in CT and found Ranson Animal Hospital. They told me to bring her in that afternoon and were very kind and respectful. They even lit a candle at the front desk that signifies to others waiting that there is someone saying goodbye to their pet in the office. Dr. Wilt was so nice to me and to my cat. He did not hurry me at all and gave me some time to say my goodbyes. The charge was very reasonable. Dr. Wilt is a great vet! read more

Cliff notes- Dr. Dibbern is about as unprofessional and arrogant as humanly possible. Overcharges, makes you feel like a bad pet owner pushes Hills Science Diet on you and gives your animal medication it does not need. Long version- I had an appointment yesterday to take my year and a half Rottweiler in for a routine check up. I adopted him from a friend about 8 months ago, right after he had been fully vetted- rabies, heart worm test and medication, front line- the whole nine. When I got to the office I had to wait a little, then I was taken back by a nice assistant. She was gentle and even gave my dog a treat. Then... she started asking me what brand of food I fed him, how often he ate, what brand of treats I fed him ect. She told me that they had to do a blood test for lyme disease and for heart worms before they would give me heart worm medication even though I had told them that he had not missed a dose.- ok fine I can deal with that she took blood from the dog and left the room. A few minutes later she comes back in asking specifically what brand of treats I was feeding him, I pulled it up on my phone for her, she left the room again. She opened the door and called me in to another room where I met the Vet, Dr. Dibbern. For 45 minutes he belittled me on my choice of dog food (Pedigree Large Breed) my choice of trests (Tractor Supply 4Health Joint Treats) - told me my dog was overweight (he's not) gave me a 15 minute monologue about how wonderful he is because Hills Science Diet chose him to help them develop their food products, after I told him twice I don't need to know every single detail about the food. Fished for information about what I did for a living and how much I made. Meanwhile his poor vet assistants were standing there waiting for him to shut up so they could give shots. He managed to get my dog to growl at him, which has NEVER happened. He vaccinated my dog for almost everything imaginable, including bordatella after I told him that he will never be going to a kennel. Gave the dog a flu shot after convincing me that if he got the flu he would die. Sold me an $80 27 lb bag of diet dog food and basically made me feel like the worst dog owner on the face of the planet. I am not a bad dog owner, my dog is part of the family, sleeps in bed and is spoiled rotten. This guy might know what he is talking about when it comes to vet medicine, but he is absolutely one of the most arrogant, abrasive, sarcastic, rude people I have ever met. I feel bad for his vet assistants and any future clients he may have. If you are smart enough to read this before going there cancel your appointment. Pick anywhere else. This guy is a complete jerk. read more

The +3 stars are for the rest of the staff who are beyond wonderful and sweet to both the animals and customers. And they offer cheap routine services. We go here to update our dog's shots and get his medicine because it's cheaper than anywhere else. The reason for the -2 stars is the doctor here is an arrogant jerk. Plain and simple. He talks down to his customers and brags about how good he is and how you don't need to ever get a second opinion because he's "the best judge of (whatever problem his is diagnosing) in the whole state." He will try to sell you on expensive procedures or medicines your pet does not need. So, we recommend getting a second opinion. Don't let him do the x-rays or surgeries suggested. If you don't believe me, ask around. After he suggested a $6000 invasive and potentially damaging surgery that two other vets said our dog absolutely did not need, we asked around and found his reputation is less than stellar. But if you need to just simply get in-get shots/preventative medicine-get out, then this is good place to do that. I *hate* writing negative reviews but we might have racked up a credit card trying to save my dog from something that was totally not necessary and harmful. read more

Snake oil saleman. Said my dogs had ear mites and gave me a bunch of meds they didn't need. Was a jag-o with my one dog, who was really scared. The lady there was nice, but he's a know it all. Go to Ranson Animal Hospital if you want a vet with good bedside manners. He won't overcharge or over-treat your pets. read more

Perhaps time to take down the shingle. Not wise to berate clients and your staff or to recommend costly surgeries that are not needed. And hearing the same spiel over and over again about food types and feeding/weight sounds like a theme for all your clients who have left reviews. Too bad because I thought you were a good vet for the last nine years. After last week you lost my business. P.s. You missed a diagnosis altogether. Clients beware your dog may not need a ACL surgery. Office staff, there are other vets to work for. If I was spoken to that way I would have walked out then and there. read more

Spent $700 cash on my puppy's first two visits for shots, etc. Third visit to get him neutered was only $240, but my husband forgot to leave cash in the morning, so I scraped up $120 and told the receptionist I'd pay the $120 balance the next morning when I brought in his fecal sample to ensure he had been cured of ghiardia. However, apparently Dr. Dibbern wouldn't release my puppy to me until I paid up! So my husband had to use his corporate card over the phone and explain to his boss (who is an attorney..) just to get our post-operative $1,500 18-week old puppy (a lhasalier) out of there! If this vet is this inconsiderate to me, imagine how inconsiderate he is to the pets he treats?!? (Including that mean trick he uses to ward off hand biting, which though certainly administered pain to my little puppy as evidenced by his yelping, didn't even work by the way.). We always pay our bills and I gave him cash at that; I realize I owed him money (that I said I would pay in the morning whilst incurring NEW charges re: the fecal sample matter), but this just seemed unreasonable. My advice is to go somewhere else; pretty sure I got ripped off paying $1,000 to this rambling, hard-handed schmuck for normative services rendered, anyway. Bottom line: If he wants to wield ghetto business tactics, he should go do business IN the ghetto (maybe as a loan shark or bail bondsman), not in normal, nice society (while charging Park Avenue prices no less).) After investing a few conversational hours with this vet during our first two, rather longgggg instructional appointments, and in light of the fact I am now rearing a sweet, adorable puppy who makes my life brighter and my heart shinier, in the (sudden and abrupt) end, I was just left with a reallyyyy bad feeling about my entire experience here. No thank you to THIS bad energy. Yuck! I advise going to a vet in nearby Loudoun County, which is where I will be going in 8-10 days to get my puppy's sutures removed. Will never go back to Countryside Vet/Dr. Dibbern! Please note I am a property manager and donate regularly to help my and other areas' stray cat issues (I recently paid to have 30 cats here spayed/neutered/chipped, etc.. I love animals... .. so I'm no stranger to the animal/wildlife arena.... and the normally compassionate and reasonable people who operate it, and so I can say with confidence that Dr. Dibbern is his own breed... stay away - terrible place for you AND your beloved pet.) read more

Just recently moved to this area. My cat had a problem with his ear, it was late night, so we took him to the Emergency Vet in Winchester. They said he had an ear infection, and gave us antibiotic ear drops, and to follow up with our regular vet. We made a follow up with Hillside (because they were the closest to where we live), and did not check reviews first. This vet had us there for over an hour talking about everything all the while his nice assistants were holding my cat down on the table. He said he has a special tool that looks into animals ears, and takes video of what the camera sees. He showed us a video of "our cat's ears" full of ear mites , which the Winchester Animal hospital must have missed. So we had to buy two bottles of ear mite medicine (one for each ear, so there would be no transfer from one ear to the other (now if there are ear mites in both ears, what was he worried about transferring?), he then went on and on and on about the amount of drops to put in my cats ears. Must be the size of a large pearl. Not a small pearl, not a marble size peal, but a large pearl. Then proceeded to tell us which shots he needed. He had three large syringes on the table next to my cat that was still being held down by the assistant. The first injection, my cat pulled away, so he had to stick him twice for that one, then started talking again while holding the second syringe. My poor kitty was scared, stressed, and being held down all this time while the "VET" kept talking, and talking and talking...... The assistant finally said, "maybe we should get back to the cat". And he gave him the other two shots. After an hour of lots of talking, watching a video of ear mites, we paid $225, and went home. For two weeks after that visit, my very active (almost hyper active) cat became very lethargic. He ate, and drank very little if at all. Dr. Dibbern said my cat would not be acting normal for about a week due to all the vaccinations. After the first week, my cat only got worse, so after the second week, we took our cat to a different vet. Our cat had a temperature of 103, had lost a pound, and was dehydrated. He gave our cat fluids, and injection of antibiotics, and more antibiotics to give him once a day at home. This vet (Dr. Masters Hillside Veterinary clinic) was all about my cat. He even admitted, he does not give vaccination boosters to older pets cause they just don't need them. My cat is 14 years old, and has never gone out doors. We love Dr. Masters. If you love your pets, keep them away from Dr Dibbern. If your pet does have ear mites, simply put 5 drops of olive oil in them a few times a week (the olive oil suffocates the ear mites) then lightly remove the mites and debris with a cotton swab (being careful not to push the swab into the ear canal). The staff at countryside are all great. They just need a real Vet that loves animals more than he loves himself, or money! read more

I took my dog to Dr. Dibbern when he started to get sores on his face, and later developed lumps behind his knees in his rear legs. The doctor checked him over carefully and quickly diagnosed the Lymphoma, that eventually took his life. Dr. Dibbern was caring in my opinion, and never tried to force anything on us. I appreciated his care, in fact. I'm not really sure why others gave him bad reviews. read more

I had my dog taken there because this was the first appointment available at any of the three area veterinary places around. I wanted to get him seen as soon as possible. Around the time of the appointment I received a call, telling me it is customary for the owner to be there for a history, I said fine I'm on the phone I can give you a history, he is in pain and needs to be seen and given medication. I also told her I needed to work to pay the vet bills and my friend was very capable. Later when I spoke to my friend who took him. She said the ARROGANT vet said no one should be allowed to own this breed, they have nothing but problems. I saw RED when I was told this. I called up and told them what I thought of that place, it can't be called a business there is no customer service! He also wanted to run lots of test. I guess he was practicing his choice to run expensive test to go with his SUPERIOR ATTITUDE. Surprising after I told them to send all test results to my home because I would not keep the follow-up visit, they offered me a refund. Which was more than a the entire visit to my vet the following day! My baby is doing much better now, no thanks to CountrySide or all the expensive test! read more

My Mom and I were not pleased with this vet at all. He likes to hear himself talk. He tries to sell you only his vaccines, flea/tick control, and food. He talks down to you if you feed anything other than Hills or Purina (which Hills has just had one of the biggest recalls). He also says vaccines before 10 weeks do not count and he was wanting to re-vaccinate my puppy when he just had a vaccine ( but it wasn't from him). He honestly thinks he is perfect. He treats his clients like they are idiots for example by explaining how when a puppy eats it poops. He talked about this for 20 minutes! And not to mention made our puppy scream by showing us how to shove our fingers in his mouth to prevent play biting (when I had already said he was not mouthy). He physically opened our puppies mouth to demonstrate how to make him yelp...our puppy left terrified and shaking! That is not how a first puppy visit should go it should be all positive. The actual physical part of the exam was not more that 2 minutes and was by no means thorough. Please save yourself the time and seek another vet. read more

I have been taking my dogs to this vet since I moved to the area in 1993. I like and respect everyone who works there. I like the doctor because he's direct and no-nonsense. His care kept my old German Shepherd going for over 15-1/2 years. Her first vet appointment was with him when she was 5 weeks old and the vet was there for her last appointment. In my experience from taking a lot of dogs there over the years, this vet knows what his is talking about. If he doesn't know, he researches. As long as I live in this area and the Countryside Veterinary Clinic is here, this is where I will be bringing my dogs. read more

I took my cat in to get his yearly vaccinations last week and ended up losing an hour of my life. The tech took me into a room where she weighed my cat and asked a few questions about his general health and how long I'd had him, etc. Then I was brought into another room where Dr. Dibbern proceeded to belittle me for using Frontline. He told me that I looked red and itchy from having fleas...I don't have fleas and neither does my cat. He then talked trash about my hometown, which he apparently used to work in, for the next half hour. He told me stories of his 35-year-long beef with an animal control company that no longer exists and tried to convince me to buy 3 more vaccines for my cat which he did not need because they were 2-year shots he'd had a year ago. He tried to sell me expensive flea and tick medication and dewormer as well as some kind of $800 tooth-whitening procedure. That awful man talked my ear off and insulted me and my hometown (which he hasn't been to since 1981) for over an hour while my poor cat sat on a table with some obese tech holding him down like a prisoner. After listening to his conspiracy theories about counterfeit flea medication and how he's the only person who knows what brand is the best, I asked him to please just give my cat the 2 shots I'd originally come in for. This took 10 seconds and then he handed me about 20 brochures before I was finally allowed to leave. If I'd purchased everything he'd tried to sell me, it would have cost about $250...the vaccines I got cost $80. He's a pathetic old man who missed his true calling to be a used-car salesman. So long story short, Dr. Dibbern is a con artist. If you take your pet to him, make sure you remember what you came for and be firm. Don't let him steal your money. read more
