Worst customer service ever. Quoted us 30 min wait. When we inquired to see where we were on the list we were told that "we should leave if we were in a hurry". Finally, after waiting over an hour and completely ravenous, at this point, and on Mother's Day of all days, we were approached by the owner who requested we leave for treating her associate ( who had told us "we should leave if we were in a hurry") rudely when we were simply inquiring about our wait. We can't even review the food but no food is worth this disrespectful, horrendous treatment. We've put up with unfriendly staff for a while but this was on a different level. If you value being treated like a human being, this is not the place to go. read more

This hinterland hidden gem in a historic farmhouse on one of the oldest biodynamic CSA farms in the US is uncompromising in its quality, presentation and politics. In a region where espresso is nonexistent, this place not only does it but does it right. And their food, far from the slipshod imitations typical of rural cafe fair, is top-quality, elegantly presented and rigorously PC in its sourcing. And it's reasonably priced. For under 13 bucks (my grateful 20% tip included) I can get a lunch of cappuccino, half a bacon and avocado panini and a cup of cold fennel and red pepper soup: half the bowl red and half green, swirling together as one spoons up the perfectly-balanced purée, which exposes the fresh veg beautifully. The simplest things come carefully presented here. The under-$4 sugar crepe is arranged in a fan, with a whorl of not-too-sweet whipped cream, blueberries and orange. Add to this the selection of lemonades (ginger, mint, etc) and high-end tea list and elegant baked goods, and you've got a backwater sleeper hit that would blow most hip downtown cafes out of the water. What a gem of a place! We were elated to find this lovely indoor cafe while on a recent road trip. We hit it right and managed to have a small dining room all to ourselves, equipped with a small play kitchen which was perfect for keeping my daughter busy until the meals came. The staff was incredibly gracious and accommodated all of our requests, big and little. I had a fantastic crepe with eggs/cheese/greens/bacon which was farm fresh and delicious. Perfectly sized. Everyone in my party seemed very content with their meals. Afterwards they invited us to walk around the farm which was busy with summer CSA pickups. As a bonus we were able to buy fresh bread and cookies (which were delivered twice a week) via an 'honor jar'. It was a fabulous find for our road-weary crew. I'm so glad the greasy-spoon diners were closed as this place was far better, and much healthier to boot! ALSO worth mentioning the clean rest rooms, picnic tables outside, and neat 'pole swings' (found off the parking lot) for the kiddo's! read more

The Hill Top Café in Wilton offers a modest selection of breakfasts and lunches made with mostly organic and local ingredients, including the superb produce, meats and diary products from the attached Temple-Wilton community supported farm. The dishes are nicely prepared and presented, and simply delicious. Some might find the prices on the high side for a country eatery in southern New Hampshire; we found them quite reasonable in view of the quality. During our visit the small staff was coping with a rather large party, which slowed the service considerably. Our server made us very welcome, though, and with good company and an excellent cappuccino, the time passed quickly enough. This small gem of a country café is well worth the short side trip off Rte. 101 if you are in the Wilton area. read more

My husband and I thought this was a wonderful restaurant and a relaxing experience! The atmosphere is low key with an artistic ~ simple flare. We frequent restaurants on a regular basis in large cities and small rural areas. The tomatoe beet soup was amazing, wonderful bread/sandwiches, and very friendly staff. I work in the health care field, so cleanliness is important to me - no issues during our visit( smile.) This is quality fresh- healthy food that you can really taste and appreciate. The establishment is on a working farm, and you can purchase farm eggs, non-antibiotic yogurt, feta cheese, etc. The three young men we spoke to ( one with glasses), the other one was rworking on the farm, and the one in the front of the restaurant, were fantastic. They get an A+ for customer satisfaction. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience - we will be back with friends! read more

On this spring day, our first time here, we arrived to find the parking area to be populated with large puddles. After walking through the mud, which constituted the passible parts of the parking lot, we entered a nice seating area. Walking through that room gets you to a smaller room with the counter were you check out the menu and order. That room also has one table for six. We ordered a chocolate and traditional croissant and a breakfast sandwich on a toasted croissant (egg, spinach, avocado and cheese), it was great. I lived in Paris for a year, these were the best croissants I've had in NH. A must have if you trek out to Hilltop Cafe. The people working here were great, but the clientele drive me a bit nuts. Couple of crunchy moms with what I think were 2100 kids running around in circles and rolling around the floor, dirty, farm floor (remember the mud parking lot). They were seated at the table by the counter, and even the staff was a little frazzled by the brood. After we sat, I couldn't help but notice that a gal at another table had four bags, reminded me of a street person, but in these woods of Wilton? Weird, but no problem, until she decided to leave, at which time, I think it was each and every bag bumped into me as she passed. There was plenty of room to get by, but not room she chose to use. Finally, a couple of women at the next table had an interesting conversation. They were trying to organize some event, but it seemed the woman more intent on the event being well organized and running smoothly just wasn't cool enough to keep up with the hip, gibberish speaking other. I couldn't understand what the heck she was saying. I had to try not to laugh out loud when the sane woman finally said to the other woman that she had no idea what was just said. They worked together to translate the cool gibberish into English. In a nutshell, too many people working much much too hard to try to be cool. Didn't they know they were on a working farm with the smell of pig shit in the air and a mud parking lot in Wilton, NH. There was great food, on a great working farm with a great staff, but there was no being cool, no matter how hard one tried. read more

A gem of a place connected to a farm and co-op, a few turns off 101 and a bit off the beaten track but worth the trip. We love breakfast at Hilltop, especially in summer when you can enjoy your meal in community outside on the grounds. Our favorites: the fresh herb omelet topped with pecans and poached eggs in spicy tomato broth. Friendly service, great value, unique experience. Shop for organic meat, eggs, milk and cheese on the way out. read more

Excellent find! Local, organic, farm fresh ingredients. Homemade croissants. Historic farmhouse. Hubby had "the best Huevos rancheros I've ever had." I had the croissant breakfast sandwich. Inspired and delicious was how we'd describe the evening meal we enjoyed last night with friends in the delightfully cozy and comfortable Hilltop Café. The fixed menu, online reservation and payment system and BYOB all combine to make the evening relaxed from the first moment, saving that awkward time spent perusing menus and wine lists. i don't often take time to write these reviews, but Hilltop Cafe is my FAVORITE place in southern NH. If you love farms, and healthy delicious top quality food/coffee/tea, this place is incredible. The cozy rooms (three) with wooden furniture and artwork by NH artists, lovely fenced in yard with tables, cows grazing nearby, flowers and wide skyview, make this a place not only to savor great coffee, but to appreciate the gifts from the earth and those who harvest them. I love this place. Absolutely love it. First of all, everything is organic. It's so hard (so very, very hard) to find places that serve organic stuff, and Hilltop serves nothing but. Second, everything is delicious. Fresh, well-prepared, and often from their own fields. Third, they're always super polite and friendly. Fourth, their prices are reasonable. So really, what's not to like? I try to get there once a week if I can - if I go too long without having one of their homemade sweet cheese croissants I start to go into convulsive rages. As others have noted, they're not open for dinner, so if you're in the area at breakfast/lunchtime, I highly recommend stopping in. read more

Fantastic cafe that primarily uses the produce from the farm where the cafe is located. The small scale means that occasionally something slightly misses, but generally the food is absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. I particularly advise the "green eggs and ham", the polenta breakfast bowl, the amazing homemade croissants, the grilled turkey sandwich and any coffee drinks that use the farm's own milk.
