The drive between Chicago and Danville can be a long one...and there is no direct route. You find…read moreyourself driving through VERY flat farmland and VERY small towns like St. Anne, Watseka, Hoopston, et al. But if you want to take a break, grab a beer and get some good homemade bar grill food, turn off the main drag (in this case, Highway 1) and go a block or two into the business district of Milford, where there is an awesome little bar with an upfront grill (the cleanest I've ever seen) dishing up homemade soup, awesome burgers and pub food, great deep fry, and some kind of daily special -- including a home made desert (we had awesome pumpkin bars but they usually have pie). On weekends they have crazy cheap steak, fish fry, and prime rib specials. You have to put up with the country music channel on the tv...(but on the flip side they have free wifi, so don't bitch). All in all it's clean, cheap, good, and friendly -- so why waste your change on fast food when you can get food fast, homemade good, and with a water back? It's the most pit-stop worthy place on a long empty haul where the only other attraction is an old corn silo with a tree growing inside it -- we call it the "Hannibal Lecter tree" and a big funny billboard for the "Hoopston corn jerkers." If you grew up a corn jerker, you NEED a friendly place like the Hangout. And it was even open on Easter! Hallelujah, brother, pass the fried pickles and corn nuggets!

Dont really know why this is listed under "Dive bars" because it is pretty classy. And there are 3…read moret.v.'s in there which are usually on 3 different sports channels. Yes all the food is homemade and every friday there is a fresh dessert made. This is a great place to eat and even bring the kids.

Hangout - Save us from the Country Music Channel, but I bet they would have changed it if we asked.

I ordered the Smashburger because the server told me it was the best burger in town. It may have been the best burger in town because I have nothing to compare it to, but it was not good. It was the special for the day. It was $15 for the burger and fries. I ordered it without onions. It came with a lot of shredded lettuce and sauce between the bottom bun and the burger. I was not a fan of the amount of sauce that came with this burger. The burger itself did not have any flavor. It looked like there was some pepper in the meat, but I could not taste anything. The brioche bun disintegrated in my mouth after each bite. My experience with a bun like this is it was either frozen or it is stale. Not sure why the bun was bad since it was their special that day. I chose poorly with a burger. Every other time I went, I got the Yakisoba noodles with short rib ribs. The noodles with the short ribs are the best in town and probably the best in Northwest Indiana.

They even have brunch.. bummer that I'm not gonna be able to go there that day. But another trip will stop in for brunch. They have legit biscuits and gravy. Large and spacious, and great big bar. When driving up look for the parking lot to the left of the building. But if you drive by it just pull into the small driveway on the other side of the building to get back around to it. You can enter both sides. Check out my pictures for brunch.

We stopped at Burnham Brewing after a very long drive as we were starting our cross-country road…read moretrip, so we were absolutely starving! The ambience is really cute, with plenty of seating and some fun artwork on the walls that gives the place a nice atmosphere. We ordered a beer flight, and I really enjoyed one of their sours, which was definitely a highlight for me. Unfortunately, the food was a different story. We ordered a few things and honestly weren't big fans of any of it. Even though the food wasn't really for us, we still enjoyed the atmosphere and the beer, so I'm giving Burnham Brewing . I'd definitely come back for the drinks and atmosphere, but I'd probably try something different food-wise next time!
