The drive between Chicago and Danville can be a long one...and there is no direct route. You find…read moreyourself driving through VERY flat farmland and VERY small towns like St. Anne, Watseka, Hoopston, et al. But if you want to take a break, grab a beer and get some good homemade bar grill food, turn off the main drag (in this case, Highway 1) and go a block or two into the business district of Milford, where there is an awesome little bar with an upfront grill (the cleanest I've ever seen) dishing up homemade soup, awesome burgers and pub food, great deep fry, and some kind of daily special -- including a home made desert (we had awesome pumpkin bars but they usually have pie). On weekends they have crazy cheap steak, fish fry, and prime rib specials. You have to put up with the country music channel on the tv...(but on the flip side they have free wifi, so don't bitch). All in all it's clean, cheap, good, and friendly -- so why waste your change on fast food when you can get food fast, homemade good, and with a water back? It's the most pit-stop worthy place on a long empty haul where the only other attraction is an old corn silo with a tree growing inside it -- we call it the "Hannibal Lecter tree" and a big funny billboard for the "Hoopston corn jerkers." If you grew up a corn jerker, you NEED a friendly place like the Hangout. And it was even open on Easter! Hallelujah, brother, pass the fried pickles and corn nuggets!

Dont really know why this is listed under "Dive bars" because it is pretty classy. And there are 3…read moret.v.'s in there which are usually on 3 different sports channels. Yes all the food is homemade and every friday there is a fresh dessert made. This is a great place to eat and even bring the kids.

Hangout - Save us from the Country Music Channel, but I bet they would have changed it if we asked.

We will have to come back again with empty stomachs. The bartender was really good to talk to and had lots of great suggestions. My favorite was their sour. It was fruity and smooth - not at all too sour or overwhelming. They also had a really tasty jalapeño cream ale. Nice and roasted jalapeño flavor without all the spice up front. There was a lot of regulars there and we were all watching sports and hanging out. It looks like they have lots of events throughout each month if you need something to do this winter! Also dogs are allowed on the patio when it's nicer out.

Mike was our beer tender and he was knowledgeable and friendly. I had the Harold's Red and my wife had the Knock Out White Stout. The Knock Out uses a different type of bean so it is not dark. It looks like a lager beer but has just enough of that coffee flavor to it. We took home a growler of each of our beers. The pizza starts out frozen. I believe it is made at the main store for Pizza Uncommon and kept in the freezer there in the brewery. It did not take very long for the pizza to come out. It was really really good and welcome on a Sunday afternoon. I had the plain pepperoni and my wife had the crab Rangoon and both were excellent. We always enjoy Crasian and this was another 5 Star experience!!

I ordered the Smashburger because the server told me it was the best burger in town. It may have been the best burger in town because I have nothing to compare it to, but it was not good. It was the special for the day. It was $15 for the burger and fries. I ordered it without onions. It came with a lot of shredded lettuce and sauce between the bottom bun and the burger. I was not a fan of the amount of sauce that came with this burger. The burger itself did not have any flavor. It looked like there was some pepper in the meat, but I could not taste anything. The brioche bun disintegrated in my mouth after each bite. My experience with a bun like this is it was either frozen or it is stale. Not sure why the bun was bad since it was their special that day. I chose poorly with a burger. Every other time I went, I got the Yakisoba noodles with short rib ribs. The noodles with the short ribs are the best in town and probably the best in Northwest Indiana.

We started with cocktails; which were delightful and strong. We split a sushi roll which was made with crab and shrimp, forgot the name- something with a cowboy. Pretty tasty and fresh. My yakisoba was perfect. Noodles were on point and super saucy. In fact, they could've easily cut the sauce in half and I would've been happy. The short ribs were so fall apart tender. Highly recommend. This place is loud and music was perfection. Love the art and ambience.
