I stopped here on my way to Chicago from Indianapolis. This place has a decent amount of free parking on the street on the side of it and in the restaurant's private lot. The restaurant is huge. There is a full bar with seating. There are a couple of televisions above the bar to watch. There is also a decent-sized dining are in the bar area and a larger, separate dining area just off of the dining area. The staff there were friendly. This pub has a country, downhome feel. They serve pub style food, including steaks, burgers, salads, soups, fish, tenderloins, wings, pasta, fish and chips and meatloaf. Additionally, they have a full-service bar with signature cocktails. Be on the lookout for their daily specials. I got me a Popper Burger with a side of fries. It took about 15 minutes for me to get my food, and it was very delicious. It was fresh, hot and flavorful. We first heard of this place because they were recently named one of the USA Today Restaurants of the Year for 2025. My family was making a trip from Indianapolis to Michigan so we added this restaurant as a stop on the way back since it's conveniently located just a few minutes off of l-65. It looked small at first but there's actually two dining rooms in addition to the really long bar area. My mom of course got the obligatory breaded tenderloin since we are in Indiana. The size was perfect (the size of two sandwiches and not the size of a whole dinner plate) and thought it was delicious. My brother enjoyed and promptly wolfed down his loaded Mac and cheese. I opted for the loaded fries since they were smothered in pulled pork, beer cheese, and fresh jalapeños. The accompanying cole slaw was delicious, but very sweet. The pulled pork was super tender and delicious. It was good, but honestly the best bite I had was the tomato I stole off my mom's tenderloin. It was the freshest tomato I've had in probably years. All of the food is grown on the owner's family farm in the nearby town of Reynolds which I'm assuming is a big part of their recent recognition. It was fairly busy on a Friday around noon. This was our first visit to Roots. We were meeting friends and I was so excited to see them that I forgot to take pictures. The wings were good, the crab dip was great too. Everyone's sandwiches looked fantastic! My stuffed meatloaf was grey and a bit disappointing. I had never had meatloaf with ham and cheese in it. It was ok but I am a bit of a meatloaf snob. It should be juicy, crispy on the outside and flavorful. This lacked in all three areas. The garlic mash was ok but slightly dry and needed a delicious gravy. The side salad was excellent with great blue cheese dressing. The service was friendly and the restaurant itself was really nice. They have a family dining area bar seating area and a beautiful bar. We will definitely go back but I think we will stick to sandwiches next time. read more

So I'm in Wolcott and have a little time on my hands. It's a little after lunchtime so I look on Yelp for restaurants. This was the 1st one in town to pop up (the actual 1st few were in other towns, which I did not intent to go). It also just happens to be catty corner across a parking lot from where I'm waiting to go to. I go in & I think every lady in the town is there! The one other male was a toddler! I was tempted to get their special, any of a few different taco items, but go with the tenderloin sandwich, as I am a born & bread Hoosier (state, not university, but nothing against them). It was OUTSTANDING!! One of the best I've had & I've had a LOT of them. It comes w/ a side & was not expensive. The ambiace was nice, too. Several tables in bar area & another room with several tables, as well. The bartender & waitress were friendly, too. My water never got empty. Ordered the prime rib, loaded baked potato, side salad, fried pickles, and pretzel bites. The prime rib was very tender but not the medium rare I prefer. For me, there was a sweet taste with the prime rib that I didn't care for. The Auj us was very good, though. The appetizers were good. I thought the salad and ranch were portioned correctly and good dressing. My baked potato was undercooked. Waitress did well but felt like they were understaffed (who isn't!) Roots is an outstanding upscale small town restaurant. They even raise their own beef and pork on the family farm! The crab dip appetizer was outstanding, with enough to share. We had the seafood special which was a seafood ravioli with a cream vodka sauce which was, again, outstanding. We also tried their pork tenderloin medallions, which came with garlic mashed potatoes and some nicely prepared fresh green beans with bacon. The on-tap beer options was limited but credible, featuring a couple of very nice IPAs. And as good as the food was, the service was just as good, if not better. This restaurant would hold its own in any big market. Great place for a quiet, high quality meal at a decent price. read more

Excellent!! Found this place on the IN Tenderloin Trail and were not disappointed! Roots is a surprisingly cool restaurant in the little town of Walcott, IN. Service was great. We arrived shortly after opening on a rainy Saturday. Not many people in originally, but it picked up by the time we were done. It is bigger than it looks and so bet it is really hoppin' weekend evenings. We both ordered the Breaded Pork Tenderloin. I might have to say it was the best "T" I've ever had, and being an Indiana gal, that's saying a lot! The meat was very white and tender and nicely moist. Not the least bit greasy. The size was perfect. Big enough to enjoy extra bites of crunchy goodness outside the bun before biting into the delicious meat and brioche bun sandwich, itself. The coating was DELICIOUS! It tasted just like my grandma's fried chicken, which is a high compliment, because my grandma made the best fried chicken, EVER! I usually eat my "T's" with lettuce, onion and dip in mustard, but this time I had to do just lettuce, so as not to diminish the deliciousness of the "T." Hubby had fries as his side and I had a cup of potato soup. The soup was SO good! If you like a really thick base to your soup, this isn't it. The case of their potato soup is light, silky and creamy with perfect seasoning and pieces of carrot and chunks of skin-on red potatoes. If I didn't love the tenderloin so much I would come back here for just that soup! This place is definitely a winner, and we will be back! read more

Get the Cookie Skillet! Holy cow. I ate it by myself. I had to fight the kids haha. Atmosphere is wonderful. It's simple and you can tell immediately that's its a farm to table. We ordered the creamed spinach as an app. It was mostly good. It came with 6 pieces of bread, I think. It was not enough. And it was more like soup than a dip and it was whole prices of spinach instead of diced up. But the flavors were top notch. They also have coloring pages and crayons for the kids. The kids meal comes with carrots and fruit snacks which is always nice to keep the kiddos busy. For our entrees we had: the kids grilled cheese, kids cheeseburger, fish and chips, and The Stack. The cheeseburger was excellent. Grilled Cheese was delicious. The Stack was on point. Fish and Chips were a 6/10. What I did it was good. But half of the meat was brown and all of the crust was soggy. I was definitely not a fan of that. The staff was so nice! And the chef was wonderful. This is a hidden gem. Fried Pickles were sliced perfectly thin and complimented the ranch and sweet chili sauces nicely. I ordered the Jalapeño popper burger and some fried pickles. Locally sourced, farm to table beef. Thick, delicious bacon with fresh, green jalapeño peppers. The layers of cheddar and cream cheese turn this burger into one smooth and tasty burger. The atmosphere is a little plain, but nice and clean. Not cheap feeling. Nanette was a wonderful server and took great care of us. I'm all about the changing lunch specials and enjoyed the three times I've been here a lot! With any new restaurant, there's going to be a lot to learn but they really care about their customers and take each order straight from the farm. The spicy fried pickles appetizers are super tasty. My loaded potato was stuffed (can't rival the McAllister's Deli loaded massive potato but nothing can) and didn't last long. It's a well designed and clean atmosphere with accommodating seating and large bar area that's in another half of the place. In town visiting some of the local wineries and decided to stop in for dinner. Super glad we did!! The food was AMAZING, the service is OUTSTANDING. Started off with some of the best stuffed mushrooms on the planet!! We both had steaks (16oz ribeye and NY strip) and they were cooked to perfection. Got a carry out bottle of wine from the local winery we didn't have time to visit. The pub was very clean and the menu had so many great things it was hard to decide. The service here is so friendly and fantastic. Everyone is super nice. The food was excellent. They gave us some fresh French bread with honey butter and it was love at first bite. That honey butter was so delicious. We had burgers with tots and fries and the chicken breast with green beans and bacon and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly, fresh and full of flavor. We decided to split a dessert and ordered the blueberry cheesecake.
