First visit for me, accompanied by two locals who had never been to the new location. Located next to the Suisan Fish Market, overlooking Hilo Bay. Decor was simple with clean lines, lots of light from all the windows. Two of us had the burger special of the day . Cooked the way we ordered - med well and were mighty tasty. Other entree was the Ahi Fish'n Chips - two big pieces cooked to perfection (wished I had ordered it). This restaurant has one of the best views of Hilo. We sat on the balcony facing the bay and downtown. We watched the sunset drinking beer and Moscow mules. Our waiter, Free, was fabulous. It was like eating at a five star restaurant. The decor was modern and clean. The bartender was a people person. We had the roasted cauliflower, carpaccio, mushroom poke, scallops, ribeye, crab cake salad, sushi (couple), chicken, ahi salad, lava cake, combo dessert, vanilla panna with coconut and banana split sundae. Everything was excellent. My favorite dishes were the cauliflower, potato cake that came with the ribeye and the panna cotta (tasted like haupia). I'm definitely coming back! Delicious!! I got the medium rare scallop that came with the wild rice and green beans. It was soooo good. If you're more of a quantity kind of person then this may not be for you. It's served on the a big plate so you may get the idea that you have little food. It was perfect for me. It came with about 6-7 large scallops that were salted just right. I even got to try their ribeye, French onion soup, bread, and sushi and man were they all good. I even think their popcorn was good. It's a little pricier, but I think it's worth it. Probably the most modern place to dine in Hilo. The ambiance is trendy and hip, which is probably why this is a popular place for me to have my girls night out dates. Not to mention their cocktail menu is awesome. Favorite dish is their Hamakua mushroom curry potpie with chicken, I even dream about it. Sushi is okay, and pricey for portion. Great place for lunch! Wife is not a fan of onions but loves Bakes French onion soup. She asked to go easy on the onions and as we all know restaurants keep a pretty good size pot of this soup ready to go for lunch and dinners but they did exactly what she asked. This place is legit. Service was awesome; staff are very nice, courteous, and professional. Staff are very good at what they do from knowing the menu to servicing the tables and most importantly accommodating. Food was delicious. There were four of us; we ordered two ribeye steaks, half rack of spareribs, and the bay burger. Everything we ordered was on point and cooked to our preferences. The place is classy, breezy, spacious, and romantic. Restaurant is elevated and is close by the ocean; it has a nice view of the bay at night. They have inside seating, area for big groups, and seating in the lanai area outside and also bar seatings. They take reservations and/or walk-ins. They have an elevator for disabled customers with handicap parking right underneath the building. Loved their choices of teas. I picked the almond mint tea which I strongly recommend. I would definitely recommend this place and will come back whenever I'm in Hilo. What I love most about Hilo are the people and how warm and kind they are. With that being said, because of the rave reviews for this restaurant I really wanted to try it out. Upon entering, It felt like we stepped into a boutique cafe in Honolulu with snobby reception people and all. But I ignored it hopeful that the food would outshine the help, unfortunately it did not! The food was "meh" at best with pricey tags like they should've been five star restaurant dishes. Our waitress was sweet but food was slow to arrive leaving us with a table full of appetizers and main dishes arriving at the same time! While this restaurant was much cleaner and trendier than most establishments in Hilo, they need stop hiring mainland wannabes and stick with hiring locals who can bring some warmth into this cold establishment! read more

This place was a fun little stop in Hilo! The building was very nice, even on a hot day the inside was Comfy enough. The meal starts with a delicious toasted coconut with a little spice seasoned popcorn in a bowl. We had the ahi poke which was very flavorful, the spicy lava roll which was small but very tasty, and the burger with fries which was delicious and the fries were salty but perfect. The cheesecake was phenomenonal and was like a deconstructed version with passion fruit for acidity which was our favorite. Would recommend even if price is a little higher than normal! read more

I had the spicy tuna nachos and the rainbow roll for dinner. The fish was very fresh with no after taste at all. It was fantastic. To drink I had an Arnold Palmer with was ok, perhaps too much lemonade for my taste. My friend had the short rib which was tasty and cooked so tender you could cut it with your fork. Really great place once you get past the sketch intro. The service was a little touch and go when the server didn't know what to do when we wanted a custom drink, and then the menu didn't look too great (no one saw anything they liked), but we stayed none the less. Glad we stayed! Food was great!! I got the seared scallops dish. It had great flavor! I devoured it. My mother got the pork belly roll and she loved it (and she's a tough critic). HBC is on the bay in Hilo with ample parking and a lovely view of the bay from most tables. The patio was too hot in late afternoon but the inside tables were comfortable. Cocktails were fun but pricey. We had the special Fish and Chips with Tuna as the fish. The batter was very light and the chips were excellent. Restaurant was clean and bright including the washrooms. Recommended for lunch to late lunch as we have not tried the dinner menu. read more

We loved this place before it moved. Now not so much. It was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant...the ceiling fans are not enough. We ordered the crab cake salad and a roll with hamachi and jalapeño. The crab cake salad came with three nondescript cakes. They were just salty. The salad part had huge leaves of lettuce that weren't properly dressed. The dressing was pooled on the bottom of the plate, an indication that the leaves weren't dried after washing. The jalapeño in the sushi roll was a piece with veins and seeds. The jalapeño overpowered the roll so that burning hot was all you could taste. The only reason for two stars is that our server was very nice. Totally want to like this place so we give it a try every few months. Hopefully I'll be able to give this place a favorable review someday. read more
