We came here as a mini staycation getaway for the MLK weekend. Got a great pool view room for a very reasonable rate. Freeway close and right across from the racetrack, next to a golf and mini golf range. Our room and bathroom were nice and clean. I was pleasantly surprised to see Splenda offered with the in room coffee and coffee pot. The bathroom is a shower/tub combo. We also got the room next door for daughter and hers was a shower only, so they do have a mix of different bathroom types at this hotel. Her room was also clean and neat. Breakfast buffet is overpriced for what they offered. I've stayed at many many other Hilton's where a breakfast buffet included an omelet bar was included. I would return. read more

Look, if you want a quiet place this is not for you. Five negatives here...Back entry to the hotel is cheesy....has the feel of back door of out of my room. Fortunately I had a balcony. So I extend my stay, right (less hassle to grin and bear the clown show than pack up and move to another hotel). Young clown at the desk tells me he doesn't need to reprogram the card keys. Wrong. Did the up-to-the-room to find they didn't work, and had to traipse 3 floors back to the desk. THEN the black woman acted like my white privilege was an annoyance to her. Then the music blares in the courtyard from 7 to 10. and the noise and ruckus continues to 12 in spite of a 10 "quiet time." Ya could have told me the courtyard turns in to a zoo on Friday and Saturday nights!! And I'm paying 350 a night for this clown show? NEVER will I stay in another hotel. NEVER will I give another dime to Hilton. I know Air BNB was best even though 3x the cost, but I did it for convenience. Well, you get what you pay for. This was by far the WORST Hilton experience!! Sex stains on the bed my children were supposed to sleep on & then they just gave us bedding at the door for US to change our own sheets. The club was HORRIBLE!!! Out of Coffee, Food, no attendant in sight. (BOTH DAYS) We requested our room to be serviced and even left the request on our door & our towels were never replenished nor was our room cleaned. Room was muggy and had a weird smell from the vents. The pool furniture was dirty & gross. The staff was not friendly and instead were very stand offish. Especially the manager at check in. Do not stay at this place under any circumstances. I had 4 room changes in 2 days due to Rooms that did not function properly to include hair to include air conditioning TV coffee maker barking dogs. When I confronted the manager after the 4th room change and attempted to record the conversation he went ballistic and said you couldn't record a conversation where he would call the cups which he proceeded to do. The cops came and they could not believe what an idiot this guy is. His name is Nicholas he is a short little guy With an extremely bad attitude. Not once did he apologize for all the inconveniences and acted like he was going out of his way to do a room change. Hilton Del Mar was such a disappointment. Honestly this location is a disgrace to the Hilton name. The hotel is too old. There's not enough elevators and you could just round and round without finding a way out. The layout inside of the units is outdated. Stay at Holiday Inn or Courtyard Marriott which is at least much closer to food/drinks downtown. read more

I would have given this stay a 1 if it wasn't for the super nice lady who checked me in and out of the hotel. So if her manager reads this, give her a raise! It was her first week there and was more helpful than all the staff I came across. The room smelt terrible, the shower took several minutes to get warm...not hot, just warm, I called the front desk Friday night trying to figure out when the restaurant closes and I was put on hold for over 15 minutes and eventually hung up waiting too long and the coastal kitchen had some of the worst food and selection I've had at a Hilton and the price. This is all ignoring how terrible the hotel grounds were kept, the pond out front had broken pieces of fake rock in it, the Tesla chargers were beat up and I'm shocked they charged the car. There is a homeless encampment right outside the parking lot and rummaging through the cigarette ash trays around. read more

Hotel is clean and centrally located. Pool and fire pits are awesome, rooms are updated but the real star of the show was BRUCE at the front desk! This is a pet friendly hotel and Bruce is not only handsome and well behaved but he also wears a gold chain and is refined and sophisticated! I would come back if only to see him! Stay here you won't regret it and make sure to stop by and give Bruce a pet. He's the smoothest guy around. read more

We came here on accident when we actually booked a different hotel in the area. Michelle was so nice and welcoming, the place looked so great, we actually ended up canceling our other hotel to stay here. She remembered our names and made us feel so welcome going as far to even upgrade our room! Later we enjoyed dinner by the fire pit with friendly service from the bar. Still suffering from Covid effects? Stayed here August 24 through the 27. Like this property but ... was told there is no daily maid service? When I asked the front desk to have my room freshened I was told they would "try to get to it." I didn't get fresh towels or the room tieded up. This hotel was nice! The location is great - it's close to the beach and right next to the Del Mar fairgrounds. I'm sure when the fair is happening, this place gets packed! I visited during a non-busy season, there was not many other guests staying here during the weekend I was here. When we checked in, we were informed our room was upgraded to a Junior Suite. I'm not sure if this was a up-sell tactic or not but hey, no complaints, I really enjoyed my room! The room had a "living room" with a couch and kitchen table and a "bedroom" with an armchair and desk. There were two mini fridges but no microwaves - I did see another review saying you could request a microwave on a first come, first serve basis but no thanks - it would have been nice for the rooms to include the microwave and not require me to ask for one. A coffee maker (not Keurig compatible) was also included. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean. The remote for the TV in the living room area did not work though. There was free WIFI, a nice pool and two hot tubs (one near the pool, another one located in a separate location that is more private and secluded). The lobby and courtyard were both large with plenty of sitting room. There was plenty of parking - however as said above, try to park as close to the lobby as possible to avoid the long walks through the hotel hallways to get to the hotel. There is a staircase at the back of the hotel for those who don't mind using the stairs. There was an onsite bar and restaurant. There were a few shortcomings - 1. One elevator located near the lobby. If you needed the elevator but your room was not near the lobby, you were going to be walking through the long corridors. It was not easy finding the elevators when we first entered from the back of the hotel. Try your best to park as close to the lobby as possible in order to cut down your walk through the hotel. 2. No breakfast. Not even complimentary coffee and muffins. 3. It is stated online that the pool is heated - the pool is NOT heated. Overall, I did enjoy my stay and will be returning to this property when I am in Del Mar. Would recommend! read more

1) When we arrived we were greeted by a young woman at the front desk proclaiming how ill she was. She proceeded to cough and sneeze all over the place. She looked and sounded really sick and I'm baffled why this hotel would want her to be working much less greeting customers. She complained to us that she was too sick to even answer the phone and we just slowly backed up to hopefully be outside of her spray zone. She put the card key on the counter and we wiped it off before touching it. 2) We called ahead to inquire if our room would be ready for an early arrival at 12:30 and were told that "it should be ready - no problem". When we arrived at 1:00 the staff let us know that the room wasn't ready and wouldn't be for a few more hours. No big deal in the scheme of things but all they had to do was be accurate so we wouldn't have driven to check in early. 3) We were informed that self parking would be $22 and valet parking was $28. But then the young man said, "I can give you self parking for $10 if you like". We asked if he could give us a better rate on valet parking and he asked, "how about $15? Would that be okay?" Point bing, parking prices seem to be fluid. And at least the valets were really nice and efficient. 4) We asked about the restaurant and the staff said, "you should definitely check out the menu before you order". Not sure the implication but they seemed to not want to recommend eating there. So we didn't. 5) At 2:00 am we had to call the front desk because of excess noise in the adjacent rooms and halls - they booked us (and family with two young children) in a group together for a high school reunion. We honestly would have had a better night's sleep if we had just stayed in the car. It was so loins that the walls were shaking. And the front desk said they couldn't do anything since it was the middle of the night. 6) Warning! If you have kids be really careful with the water temperature. They don't seem to have temperature governers on the faucets and the water can come out scalding!!!!! You can easily cause a third degree burn if you aren't careful. 7) The room smelled like a cheap car air freshener when we arrived but we aired it our. The pros are that the room was large and clean. Not opulent by any means but if you have a work trip and have no where else to stay then it's probably fine. 8) We aren't staying a second night here now and definitely won't ever come again. The price doesn't commensurate with the quality and there are better values in the area. 9) In closing, I know this is just a Hilton but I think everyone can agree that you should be able to reasonably expect to not get the flu from a sick staff and getting a night's sleep when you book a hotel room. read more

I stayed at the Hilton San Diego Del Mar for a week in early May. What a great hotel perfectly located close to the beach, Fairgrounds, I-5 freeway, shops and restaurants. My room was not available when I checked in, but the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating and searched me out on the property and brought me my room key when it was ready. The reception staff also ensured I was given a room with a huge bathroom since there were three women sharing the room. The hotel is dog friendly, which is a huge plus! There are lots of grassy areas on the property to potty your dog and yet the grounds are clean and odor free. The same goes for the rooms which were dog friendly, large, clean and odor free. Plus, you rarely ever heard dogs barking. The bathroom was large, bright and clean and featured Peter Thomas Roth toiletries which were a hit. The pool area is lovely and a nice place to eat outside or relax with a cocktail. The bar was always busy and featured a TV. Prices were on the high side, except for coffee in the morning, which was actually cheaper than Starbucks and equally as good. The Del Mar dog beach is less than five minutes away by car and the perfect place to romp or relax with your four-legged friend. The Cedros Avenue Design District is close by and features a wide variety of shops, restaurants. There are also a number of trails for hiking within a short drive. For those who don't have a car, the hotel runs a complimentary shuttle anywhere you want to go within 5 miles of the hotel. The Flower Hill Promenade is up the road and features a Whole Foods, several restaurants and shops. Overall, I had a great stay at the hotel and would not hesitate to return or recommend it. read more

I stayed at the Hilton del mar for business this past week. The facilities is fine, nothing special. Why the 2 star rating: potential fraud. Upon reviewing my invoice I caught a mis-charge: the restaurant entered an amount higher than what I signed off on. Hopefully this was an honest mistake and not fraud, however, I have not heard back from hotel management regarding this. The lack of communication regarding potential fraud is alarming. My advice to you as a patron of this establishment is to carefully review your hotel invoice and cross reference with any other credit slips you signed off of while staying at the Hilton. read more

I really had great expectations but was let down. Understandably its Covid and of course there were going to be some limitations on amenities like no in door fining (even though SD county was allowing it) BUT they are overkill. No room service. No house keeping (unless you request prior day). Restaraunt closing (take out only) at 7 pm on labor day weekend. The room i booked not available so they downgrade. Mist importantly the staff. Seemed like no one except for bartenders wanted to be there. No customer service. Props to the bartenders though. Working their butts off with a smile. LOVE this hotel! Upon arrival, the front desk staff is welcoming and the hotel lobby is bright, clean and a great environment. Self parking is easy as can be as well as Valet. The room I had was comfortable and clean! The Bed was like a big marshmallow that had support and I slept my 2 nights like a baby! I loved that the window in the room opened a tiny bit, allowing fresh air in the room. The bathroom was clean and the only negative, was the design of the showerhead. lol. I never have seen a showerhead that was installed facing the shower door. So once it is turned on, the water goes shooting out all over the floor. It was pretty funny and made me laugh. I used more towels than needed, to put on the floor, but again, not a big deal. The outside area is really comfortable to hang out in and the food at both restaurants was delicious and affordable. The meeting rooms we were in over the weekend, were also great I absolutely will stay here again when visiting Del Mar/Encinitas area. read more

I really regret not reading the yelp review before booking this hotel. The staff is absolutely horrible, rude and just out right liars! Called them multiple times before checking in to confirm the room rate, and several days after wards I get my credit card bill and they charged me a rate that was unauthorized. If I could give a 0 star I would. Photos online are deceiving (serious shock when you drive up) Front desk staff gave us our room key then the other staff (who was also checking a guest in) started bickering about who gets what room after they already gave us our room key. Get to our room and the ac doesn't work. We try calling the front desk multiple times after it ringing for 5+ min each still no answer. Finally my boyfriend leaves and has to grab a staff member. I'm in the bathroom getting ready and my boyfriend tells the worker not to go in there but he continues to try and open the door. He says he will be back in 15 min. Doesn't come back, we finally leave, and go to the front desk to let them know our ac isn't working. We leave to go grab lunch and hang at the beach, we finally get back a couple hours later and they are still in our room! We go to the front desk and ask how much longer, they instead give us a different room. We walk over to the other room and guess what!? ITS DIRTY!!! We then go back to the front desk to let the manager know it's dirty, she then just says oh sorry let me get you a different room. The lack of concern is beyond outrageous. She then goes to tell us she can't comp. anything but she can refund us and we can find somewhere else. (We never asked for a comp.) But assigning us to 3 different rooms within hours is not OK!!! We are paying a pretty penny and for you to not give a crap doesn't make us ever want to come back! This has been a horrible experience and after reading the other reviews I really hope they get it together because it seems like it's going downhill real quick! read more

Like many things Hilton, it looks nice on the outside but lacks substance. I forget how far down Hilton has fallen. This is the fifth hour I am trying to sleep on this rock they call bed. And we booked two nights. Groan. Not to mention place is in bad need to repairs, in particular the bathroom. Literally the bed is a rock. Front desk is confusing and lacks the ability to articulate basic necessities of a hotel stay. I hope my fiancé took note of the final agreed on price because they were all over the map with their info, one lady said if he saw a better price they would match it- he did - then got a whole run around. I don't even want to stay another night, beds are rocks! Boo. Bad start to a trip! I miss the Kimpton or Marriott - used to prefer Hilton but that was the 80's. At this price point I will stick with Kimpton/ Marriotts in the future. On the flip side - location is great, they have a nice restaurant up front, and a decent pool area. Everything is audible from the room however.just the worst bed - I think I have only stayed on one other hotel bed so miserable - it was memorable and out of the country. I want to sleep soooo badly. I may be delirious from lack of sleep- but you know, a hotel stay can either feel luxurious and special - or- a little gross like a bunch of strangers have slept there and there is lack of thought to details - unfortunately, this is the latter. As comfy as a hospital in the rooms. Might feel differently if I was not attempting to sleep on a rock at the moment. They are in sore need of total renovation. read more

I was shocked and disappointed that Hilton would put their name on this location. A basic and simple lobby with a small bar/lounge area and friendly staff greet you as you come in...that and the central location if you need to be in the immediate area are the only positive things to staying here. Night 1 of a 10 night stay I wake up at 4:30am to the bedstand, tv cabinet, and mirror on the wall vibrating. Thought it was an earthquake, but lasted longer than 15 sec. Thought it was a couple nextdoor getting frisky but it lasted longer than 10 minutes. Oh, they gave me a room next to the gym! Around 7:30 am the thumping of the treadmills is complimented by the cursing work crew assembling outside my window, bragging about last nights conquests. I check-in with the front desk for an immediate room change and the workers don't skip a beat or get up off the ramp and steps as I make my way through their foul cloud of profanities. Night 2 I return to a new room. I wake around 7:30am to the sound of hammers and construction. I've been nicely removed from the cursing crew, but now I'm stuck listening to slamming doors, hammers and tools. Its too noisy to even work in my room, so I'm heading to the local coffeeshop. Now, based on the above, you might think I'm being overly critical, however I always try to post unbiased and fair reviews. The condition of the bedroom itself was as pictured online. Slightly modern yet conservative decor, comfortable mattress, mp3/clock radio...then you open the bathroom door. Both room 1 & 2 had dirty and run down bathrooms. From empty toiletpaper rolls to worn out towels well past their lifespan to cracked and chipped floor tiles that you could cut your bare foot-on, the conditions are unacceptable to any hotel that you aren't paying by the hour. The cherry on top isnthe wet and moldy floor around the toilet with dark brown water stains in the grout. I've seen NYbTransit public bathrooms that were cleaner. Add to the corroded and stained shower drain and shower faucet handle falling apart and you'll understand why I checked out early and would rather deal with an extra 30 minutes of LA like traffic than spend anymore time here. Will never come back. Management has no backbone. Lack of security makes it very unsafe. We are staying for 5 nights and paying full price and experienced something you would at a public pool. All of a sudden 20 teenagers showed up under supervision of 1 old guy and started screaming, yelling, splashing, playing music on their speaker, etc. The manager came out to tell them to lower their voices and they screamed "this is our house" and then he went back inside. I couldn't believe the male manager wearing blue and black was so insecure and let them tell him how it is going to be. The entire pool is surrounded by families, some with small children, just waiting for them to leave. They took over the whole pool and the staff let them. There are tooo many other choices of hotels in the summer in San Diego. read more

Made a trip out to del mar to celebrate one year anniversary. Love the location, in a nice area with lots of healthy eats and close to the beach. Also close to San Diego. My review is basically for the conference rooms and the bar. I haven't stayed here but it's a great place to have a meeting. Once a year I come here for a meeting regarding a condo that I own with multiple people. It sometimes gets heated and drawn out but they provide coffee and water for us to throw at each other. OK not really but we can drink them when we act civilized. Hilton is an easy find and they provide validation for people attending conferences which is nice. After the meeting we head to the bar for a quick refreshment and the bartender is a doll. Drinks are decently priced. Especially for a big hotel chain. I always expect to pay a fortune and always am pleasantly surprised. They also serve a nice ahi at the bar. read more

This is an update to my review....After I checked out, paid my bill, received my receipt,I get home and 2 days later a charge shows up on my account for $5. I call the hotel and normally this charge is for a bottle of water in the room which sometimes housekeeping will do whether you use the water or not. In this case, this charge which shows up on my account is not showing anywhere at the front desk. So the question is what is this charge for? It is still unknown, but the question is what gives the hotel the right to charge more money to your account without notification? Proper business practices would be to call you, send you an email or communicate in some manner that would explain the purpose of the charge. On my bank account there is no reason given for this charge which now you have to take the time to call the hotel, try to get in touch with someone in accounting, put a claim in with your banking institution, all of which could be avoided with a courtesy call or email to you. This is the ONLY reason for the 1 Star on this update, everything else during our stay was pretty good which I detailed in my previous review. The only concerns I had which I shared with the front desk on check out was the TV signal kept cutting out in the room and the refrigerator was not plugged in and when I moved it to plug it in, there was so much dust back there, it looked like the inside of the cabinet and behind the dresser had not been cleaned in a very long time. read more

My room was loud, dingy and worn. Could not sleep from the traffic on the freeway. Could not see out of the screens they were so dirty. The front desk had no solution other than to allow me to cancel my reservation which left me stranded and scrambling to find a place for the next eight days. Because I booked through a third-party they would not help me improve my room. I was still a guest and I still was paying a significant amount. Very disappointing for a Hilton property. Overall an okay experience at this hotel. I paid ~150 a night and parking was an additional $20 a day. My room was newly remodeled, and service was friendly. I didn't have to ask for help other than checking in and out of the hotel. My room seemed clean in general other than a stain in the carpet. The TV had issues too, it wouldn't show a picture but only produce sound. Something I didn't understand about my room was that the room was very nicely remodeled except for the doors in the room. Every single cheap door and cheap door handle looked like it came from a porta potty. My biggest gripes with this hotel are the following: 1) The room's walls were pretty thin. I could hear the people above me running across their room in the morning. And the worst thing, on a Friday night at about 3 am I awoke to the sound of a man vomiting and yelling into a toilet. Pretty sure it was the room next door that I share a wall with. It was so loud I thought it was in my room. It was disgusting. 2) The parking sucks. The lot is behind the entrance and there's no way to get into the building if you have big bags in your car other than several stairs. Here I was lugging three giant suitcases up a flight of stairs just to get into the hotel building from the back parking lot. Nobody offered to take my bags to my room. 3) On Sunday morning I had to walk over a giant pile of vomit in the parking lot on the way to my car. It was nasty. It made me realize that this hotel might be for more party people than the type of crowd I like to be around. 4) The continental breakfast was way overpriced. The food didn't look that good either. In summary, the room did its job and it was pretty clean. But did not wow me in terms of going above and beyond in the quality of the rooms, the clientele, or even the hotel amenities in general. This is a nice place to stay. The room was simple, but had a hint of elegance to it. The king room we had, also had a couch. It was very spacious including a large bathroom and mega screen TV. The restaurant on site serves up a very nice buffet. The hotel also has a fitness center, spa and pool on site and is located close to the I-5. read more

The possums and raccoons and wild cat populations outside weren't anything I'd complain about, but being woken up by a mouse in the room? Staying here for the first time 7/3/22. This review is more about the management of the Hilton they run this place like it's a daycare for children and NOT a HILTON HOTEL . They put me in a room on the first floor close to the courtyard/pool area (worst location ever) kids yelling and screaming in the pool at 10:20pm and at 10:45 they are yelling and screaming playing tag in the courtyard area I wish I could post a video I have 2 video of 90 seconds plus kids just yelling running screaming pretty much like a jungle gym/ playground I went and told the assistant manager Connor Ramirez and showed him the 2 videos and his response was "well the bar area/ courtyard is open until 11pm" as to say I was complaining about the guest eating/drinking, No I'm complaining about kids running by my window at 10:45pm screaming. For the price they are charging to stay here take your money somewhere they do the job your paying them to do and care about the guest experience. I'm a Hilton member and I can say this is the worst Hilton hotel I've stayed at. I stayed last month while they were renovating the hotel. But that's not why I'm complaining. I was very disappointed with the room I was given. Initially, I thought the room was great until I took my shoes off. The carpet was wet! The area from from the front door to the entertainment center was wet as if somebody had steam cleaned the carpet and didn't let it dry. But I can tell you that they didn't steam clean it because the carpet was stained. I had to get towels from the bathroom and lay them over the wet area of the carpet. The phone in my room did not work for wake up calls. I tried to call front desk to notify them but the call never connected. I also noticed that the phone had the wrong room number on it. Plus, the room did not have a fridge or microwave. The staff is very friendly so no complaints there but I would look for another Hilton to stay at. read more

Across the street from the race track and less than a mile from the 5 fwy! Very good location! This hotel just recently went through a multi million dollar renovation and it looks modern and fantastic! My hubby and I stayed here on 9/27/13 to attend my Uncle's birthday party in San Diego. The lobby had this cool lounge type of atmosphere with the white couches and purple, gray and green pillows. Did I mention they had these cool purple and pink neon lights in there too? The outside patio by the pool also had really nice fire pits and couches around them. It is a perfect place to have a drink and chit chat with friends! Our room was clean, comfortable, modern and quiet. The bathroom was okay, but from what I understood, they were to be renovated next. There was an outside patio with chairs and a table that faced the pool. The pool was amazing as it was heated! It was relaxing to take a nice, late afternoon dip in it. Would I stay here again? Add $50 to 75 dollars per night to whatever price you agree too and request a room by the elevator. A-la-Carte everything - (was afraid to ask for extra towels) I was shocked by the 25 dollar park yourself fee (I'm from L.A. valet is one thing, but charging guests to park their own car?)- , even more by a 5 dollar coke. Only to wake up to no continental breakfast - and a breakfast bar with vouchers (was told they were not available for my room) 20 dollars. I was under the impression that Hilton was a luxury brand- don't get that feel here - all around, staff snippy with up-charges (It would be a lot easier to swallow if before you've even finished your question you weren't barked at with the equally shocking fees). Shower leaked- drip drop ALL NIGHT and the hot/ cold are reversed - looks like a 90's bungalow apartment building with 1 elevator (kudos to the photographer who took the photos on the web site). If you're assigned a room in the back - it's stairs, OR walking all the way to the front to the elevator and then walking all the way back to your room. Bottom line - only reason to stay here is if you are going to the fairgrounds and add $50 to 75 dollars per night to whatever price you agree to and request a room by the elevator. read more

I got into town exhausted and decided to try their room service . The food was pretty good the drink I ordered "sangria" was not even close to a typical sangria .. All it was was wine with blueberries and one strawberry . Very disappointed giving the price. Next time in town I will go out and skip the room service for sure. Oh btw if your a guest for the night be prepared to pay 18 for parking as it is not included . Go figure read more
