This seafood is a winner when you are looking for ambience and a good view. The restaurant is overlooking the ocean. We went on a really cool and windy day so we were not able to enjoy the beach. Sitting in the restaurant was great. Food was good but did not really stand out . I would have given them a 3 but gave them a 4 because of the great view, awesome staff and fast service. Seafood bowl - good and tasty, the risotto was a little overcooked, good portion of fish, mussels and lobster Ahi tostada- taste great and a good appetizer to start Calamari - crispy but with too much breading

Location next to beach. Amazing! I don't know if I just keep ordering the wrong dishes or the food is really just average....but it seems like it used to be better years ago. The daily fish plate was fine but it came out lukewarm. I also got email from OpenTable saying that I didn't show up to the reservation which was odd. I guess they didn't check us in on Open Table? Our service today was great, though!

Great service & location is amazing! Tiny parking lot that you have to valet in. Valet is $8 for lunch & $10 for dinner. The guys out there are hustling! Tip them extra. Mai Tai was good but they're better at Duke's. My husband got the mango slushie with rum but it wasn't really a slushy. It was much too liquidy to be a slushy. Had a great flavor though. The fish tacos were good but also better at Duke's. The poke bowl I didn't enjoy. Flavor just wasn't there. I'm not sure I'd return as I enjoy the food much better at Duke's but you can't beat the ambience here.

Jake's Del Mar was our family's favorite meal while visiting the San Diego area! The ambience was stunning, especially around sunset with the beach right in front of us. We started with the ceviche and calamari, and both were really fresh and yummy. For my main meal, I went with the lemon garlic roasted fish, and it was delicious! For dessert, we had the famous Hula Pie, and our table of 3 could barely finish it. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Service was also friendly and fast. Overall, an amazing place for a sunset dinner!

We went to Jake's since it's a sister restaurant to Dukes which we love! When we stepped inside the ambience is a little different (to Dukes) wasn't a huge fan of it but I loved the windows that opened straight to the outside! We ordered the fish tacos which pretty good just had them substitute the chips & salsa that come with it with some fries. We also ordered the poke bowl which we also like just needed a little Sriracha sauce to spice things up a little. My wife ordered a Mai Tai which she thought wasn't all that great & ordered a blended spicy mango slushy which had potential but I felt like it was blended with very little ice (sometimes it just depends on who makes your drinks I guess). The service was good & our waitress was very friendly & attentive. Would I make a special trip to eat here again probably not but hey that's just me.

Went to Jake's twice in one week -- once to celebrate our daughter earning straight A's in college, and again for a business meeting. Both visits were wonderful experiences! Jake's is such a beautiful place to enjoy a meal. While the serving sizes aren't huge, the food is absolutely delicious and thoughtfully prepared. I discovered my new favorite lunch item: the steak wedge. I'm not a fan of blue cheese, so I ordered it with a side of ranch and vinaigrette instead, and wow -- it was amazing! I also ordered a virgin piña colada, even though it wasn't on the menu, and it was fantastic. The staff was accommodating, the atmosphere was great, and everything about our visits made us want to come back again. We'll definitely be back. Cheers!

I chose this place for lunch because of its location. It's so hard to find restaurants that are truly right on the sand, so that's definitely a huge bonus here. And if you can get a table in the dining room along the beach, even better. Definitely worth the wait. We started lunch with two mai tais, and they were absolutely fabulous -- classic all the way. The food, however, is where the restaurant didn't really shine. They seemed to play it safe. If you prefer lighter, more understated flavors, this may be the perfect place for you. We started with the ceviche. The guacamole had turned color and didn't seem very fresh, but overall it was still a light and decent starter. For my entrée, I ordered what was essentially a cioppino, even though they call it something else on the menu. The mussels tasted slightly off, though the two pieces of fish were tender and nicely cooked. Unfortunately, the dish really lacked flavor, and I ended up having to salt it heavily. Our waitress was wonderful -- very sweet, attentive, and diligent throughout the meal. Overall, this is a great spot for the atmosphere, drinks, and staff. While the food didn't particularly impress me flavor-wise, the beachfront setting alone makes it worth visiting.

Ceviche- fresh and tasty, I would order again!

Pretty damn nice view of the Pacific Beach here and decided to take myself out after a pretty grueling couple of weeks of work, which included weekends. I like my work immensely, but also need to recharge too. My motto in life is, "work hard, play harder, you only got this one life, make it count." I asked chatGPT to find me a place in Del Mar that has sick ocean views and no matter how I asked chatGPT this question, Jake's kept popping up as number one. I needed some lunch so came in here after 3pm, and it was closer to happy hour. As soon as you walk in, you just see the ocean and it just calms you. I sat down at the bar and it wasnt too busy but with a few people. This place is for grown ups, so act like one. It had a laid back, ocean vibe so very relaxed for sure. Bartender very professional, and very courteous. Poured me a blonde to get started and gave me time to chose my food. There is happy hour here but not too many selections. Today, it was choices of some of flatbreads and a salad and I wasnt interested. Happy hour only Mon - Wed anyways. I wasnt terribly hungry so ordered the ceviche. I love fish, doesn't matter how you make it, as long as its good, I will like it. Ceviche was spot on fresh and yummy and appreciate a bit of avocado added. It was the perfect snack, while watching the ocean view and washing it all down with an ice cold blonde. A perfect gown up way to spend the afternoon celebrating life and how gorgeous Mother Nature is. There is valet parking here which is $8 and peak times $10. I was able to find free 2 hour parking on the street though. Bathroom was clean and everything about this place would bring me back in again. I cant wait to show off this place to friends and family when they come visit me!

I had been here years ago and really enjoyed it but this experience was just "meh." Let's start with the positives: the food was visually beautiful and the views were stunning. Now for the negatives: The restaurant was dark and dingy inside and smelled of alcohol--not what you would expect for a pricy establishment. Basically it was an overpriced dive bar. My tuna was beautiful but flavorless so that was disappointing. It was so loud inside it was hard to hear even the person sitting right next to you. Service was relatively good, however the parking attendants were rude. I was with someone who is disabled and required extra time to enter the vehicle and they literally said we were holding up the works and needed to exit immediately. I feel like I should probably only give them one star or no stars if possible for that.

Valet parking or paid public parking across the street.

Although this has been a Del Mar cornerstone; this was my first time. We arrived just before opening and there was already a line, on a weekday! It's old world charm inside and we were sat at the huge, gorgeous windows that provided epic views and ocean breezes. The service is impeccable! We were four women who hadn't seen each other in 48 years (!) and Chase L understood his mission - we weren't in a hurry. He provided the perfect mix of attentive, accurate, and not ever rushing us; definitely reflecting the level of service provided here. We appreciated the cocktail/wine menu. By far, the Sancerre Domaine du Carrou Sav Blanc was our favorite. Then the food! The fish specials were divine, as were the fish Caesar and chicken strawberry and candied walnut salads. Overall, it was absolute perfection and a cherished memory for all of us!

Had a great experience at Jake's. Sat at the bar and had the best time with the best vibes. Every single staff member was inviting and extremely nice. Jorge makes the best drinks and was so polite - best bartender in California. All around 5 stars.

Amazing!!!:D this espresso martini is by far the BEST! IVE EVER HAD! The coconut purée was house made! The burger was perfectly cooked! And nothing beats their Brussels sprouts Come here during sunset! The views are incredible! The interior design of this place really ties in the perfect beach vibes! The bartenders make incredible drinks and are very attentive!!

    Ask the Community - Jake's

Do they have a private room to rent for 20-25 diners?

Jake's doesnt currently book large parties or events, but it has information on discussing a future event https://jakesdelmar.com/plan-an-event/

    Do they have happy hour?

No but they have a brunch menu on the weekends

    Valet or self parking?

Yes, it has valet for 7 dollars at jakes, public parking across the street in a lot more.... Go with valet......

What is the corkage fee at Jake's? Thank you!

    I believe it is $15.00/bottle

    Do you have a patio?

Yes they have a patio that overlooks the water

Do you have breakfast during the week?

    Only on Sundays.

    Kid-friendly? Can accommodate a big group (~20)?

You would need to make advance plans for a large group. It is a very popular place, and even with a reservation, you can expect to wait. I do believe they have a kids menu but I did not see any children there when we dined there.

    Do they have happy hour?

I believe they do, I just have been there for lunch YUM and WONDERFUL in every way.

What time is The happy hour specials?

I am not sure since COVID but it was at 5, go at 5:30 and you will not be disappointed.

What their specialty/ what dish you recommend to eat for dinner?

Three things to recommend: Achiote Roasted Fish; Crusted Ahi; Seared Scallops. A personal favorite is the Fresh Fish Caesar Salad when they have the grilled Norwegian salmon. I order my fish grilled medium rare, which they do nicely.

How is the indoor dining environment when it comes to ventilation, i.e. are the windows as well as doors opened for natural ventilation?

Yes, especially if you are seated by the beach front windows or on the patio

    Can our dog comej?

I'm not sure but usually on the patio it's ok.

Do you have to make reservations?

Yes I wouldn't go without one. They might take a few walk ins but this is a reservation spot! Just use OpenTable and it's pretty easy.

    Is it dog friendly?

Unless you have a service dog than definitely not. This is a place that is indoors and most people get dressed up to go. There isn't a large patio area and it's upscale. You may want to try a more casual location! Service dogs are accommodated…

Date gets some brownie points for chosing this spot, maybe this could go somewhere haha. Parking is a situation here. But if you go past the restaurant, there is some parking on the road and in small lot meant for those enjoying nature. I felt bad taking one of these spots. There is paid public parking on the corner before the restaurant and valet is available at this brewery. I need to figure out another way to get here... On a Sunday afternoon, place had people but it wasnt mobbed. Baseball game and Del Mar horse races were showing on the TVs. But, don't come here to watch TV, look outside! I saw some very good bird action, including an egret doing some weird strutting in the lush greenery. I am bummed I forgot to bring my binoculars but I will be back here again soon with binocs ready! I started off with a hefeweisen and that was good, date had a Mexican lager x 2. I had the ceviche (pretty good) and had the aioli on the side. Date had a sandwich of some kind and copious amounts of fries. It took a lot of will power for me to not have any of those fries, they looked so yummy! I also had a watermelon beer, this had hints of watermelon flavor and I enjoyed it. Great spot for large groups too as there were a few large parties sitting in the "outside" space. Hostess initially asked if we wanted to sit "inside" or "outside," and I was confused as it all looked like outside to me haha. I guess this is SoCal, everything is open air. This is a nice spot to have convo, very spacious, lots of nice tables, we sat at a high top. I love perching higher up, kinda of like a bird haha! Waitresses here were all very good, some very cute too (eye candy is always appreciated). Overall, a really fun way to spend a Sunday summer afternoon! I'll be back!

Most of the people in our group ordered beers, but I ordered a nonalcoholic prickly pear hibiscus ginger beer which was ok--pretty subtle, but it quenches the thirst all the same. I ordered the Farmer's burger (black bean) with added avocado and a side salad which comes with a lemon vinaigrette. I had to eat it with a knife and fork after removing the top bun. Very tasty. My daughter ordered crispy shrimp tacos which she really enjoyed. Most people ordered the backyard burger which looked pretty good--choice of fries or side salad. The aesthetics are lovely here and the huge outdoor, open seating is what drew my sister and I here and we did enjoy a lot. Maybe would come back to have food if in the area for a show.

Our server was fine and friendly. The food came out quickly. We had the chips and salsa (excellent). I asked for a non spicy salsa and my friends wanted spicy so they brought some of each. We split the the Heart of Palm Ceviche! So amazing and it was big with a beautiful presentation. Just delicious. I could have eaten that alone with no other items. It was a vegan Ceviche and the fish was not missed. My friends ordered really cool cocktails and raved about them. My one friend said that this is the only place she can get this particular cocktail and that she comes here just for it. I ordered 2 tacos (Mr. Asparagus and the Baja fish taco). Both delicious and they came with housemade potato chips (which I thought was weird until I tasted them). I was so full but I couldn't not eat the chips because they were so good. One friend ordered the Quesabirria and she didn't love it. It was very strange as it was wrapped in fried cheese. They also ordered the other tacos and loved them. The only one that didn't get a thumbs up was the Quesabirria. I am looking forward to introducing this restaurant to other friends. So good!

I sat there patiently, and the female employee came to the register to take my order after a while. I ordered my burrito... we had a choice of bacon or chorizo at the included price. Carne assda was three dollars extra or if I wanted all three meats it was five dollars extra. I probably should've not done this, but I paid for all three. I walked around while I waited. After seeing everything in the entire place, I took a seat near the Pick-up counter. While I was waiting there, the guy who was cooking was complaining about so many things. The one thing that really was upsetting is he said something along the lines of "people have to wait for their food anyways." this guy is angry and bitter, and does not like his job. The wait was oddly long I was tempted to ask them to cancel my order but I waited. The Third employee handing me my food with a smile in a box no bag no napkins no nothing. I guess those were self served, but would've been nice if he had said something because I got home and didn't have napkins or anything. The icing on the cake is paid for three meat definitely there's no bacon in here and I think I found one piece of Carne Asada so I paid five dollars extra basically for a chorizo burrito . There's hardly anything inside of it. I taste more tortilla than the inside. This was the most disappointing burrito. I think I've ever had in my life. I should've gone to the taco shop and gotten a much better burrito. Shame on you, Ranch 45. I don't have the energy to call you or go back and why waste my time and money coming back to complain. Our last visit also took a ridiculous amount of time for one pastrami sandwich. I was waiting in the car while my husband went in. Sad to say I doubt I'll be back here ever again. Step up your Customer Service step up the execution of your beef. Stellar quality meat is not enough. You need to execute and have staff that isn't complaining with an earshot of the customers.
