WHY I WENT HERE: - business trip THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located on Monterey Hwy next door to Motel 6 - plenty of parking in the front, middle, back, and sides of the hotel THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - the main lobby is elevated casual - although my room is a bit dated, it was very cozy - loved the introduction of the full-size mounted toiletries; I tried all of them and loved that they're clean (no sulfates, parabens, etc.) CUSTOMER SERVICE: - minimal contact with customer service as I was able to check in and out via the Hilton app

Front desk hands out water for each room!

Rising Caltrain down to Gilroy, I signed up for their Hilton Honor Program. a bit scary without all the stores close by such as in San Mateo, but once I got to the Hilton their service is quite good warm friendly and quite a change of the rural Gilroy. Thank you for making Hilton the icon it is. CalTrain and VTA remain outstanding.

Soooo.....between the time I fell asleep last night at 10:45pm and the time I woke up this morning at 5:45am, this happened. Ants EVERYWHERE, all over the wall, all over the nightstand, even a few in bed with me (awesome). I decided the best thing to do was not touch anything and let the front desk know. I reported this to the front desk at 6:30am and let them know I would be back around 2:00-3:00pm. I did a lovely hike at Pinnacles National Park and returned to my room around 1:30pm. The ants were still there, it was obvious no one had been in the room. I went back to the front desk and reported it again (to I believe the same person) and was told, "Really? I think he's been up there." Uh no, he hasn't. Maintenance person was in the room almost immediately after that, can of Raid in hand. I pointed out that it was pretty easy to see where they were coming in and out and asked if he could caulk up the hole where they were entering and exiting. He said no. I not-so-jokingly asked for a piece of Scotch tape. I was told, "Once I spray the line, they usually don't come back." Um ok. Now I have a nightstand covered in Raid and dead ants. I started wiping the nightstand with a wet washcloth hesitantly when I got another knock on the door. Housekeeping! Yay! Maintenance must have asked her to come by to clean up the Raid residue and dead ants. I opened the door and let her in, started telling her about the bugs, and all I got was "No ingles." Now she's puttering around my room making the bed and cleaning the bathroom. I just need someone to clean the dead ants. This is unreal

I enjoyed my stay here. I always like the Hilton Garden brands. The hotels aren't too badly priced, good amenities, free breakfast, and pretty big rooms. We stayed in Gilroy not for tourism but for family obligations. There's no really good newer hotels in the area. This is pretty far from main area and a little on the bad side of town but it's slowly improving. There's a park across the street and you can walk the levee. The hotel also comes with free bottles water at the front and green boxes breakfast! Which is a great amenity, just the little things matter and we value it. The room was decent. The AC worked. There's a refrigerator and a microwave. The shower had a good flushing toilet and a shower with doors. I hate that they didn't give you an extra roll of toilet paper. So we had to ask. The bed was comfortable and there's a desk to work. One major con was how dirty the room floors were. On the floors We found Cocoa Puffs, pennies, Bobby pins, orange peels and tissue paper that they didn't pick up or vacuum. We did check the bed to make sure it's clean and it was. Just the floors, seems they don't vacuum. Bar was opened one night. Free parking and convenient next to the freeway. For Gilroy, you'll need to lower expectations. And we did but surprised this was pretty good.

Warning: Hotel does not strictly enforce mask-wearing for their customers/visitors. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn (Gilroy) this past weekend for a weekend getaway to visit the general area and Pinnacles National Park. I really wanted to like this HGI property, but sadly I must leave a negative review on my recent experience here. Pros: Hotel is clean, they provide breakfast boxes during COVID, lots of water bottles to keep guests hydrated, staff wear masks. I've stayed at plenty of HGIs in the past (as I am a Hilton Elite member), so their offerings are pretty standard here. Cons: The biggest problem of this HGI is that the staff do not enforce mask wearing for guests or visitors in the common areas (e.g. lobby). I saw a few folks in the lobby without facemasks, despite signs posted all over the building staying that masks are required. For example, I saw an older gentleman construction worker who was rummaging in the breakfast food area sans mask. The construction worker was even talking with the front desk guy. The front desk guy didn't even tell the construction worker to put on his mask, even as they were conversing. Not COVID-safe at all! I understand that things are easing up with CDC recommendations and with vaccinations; however, the staff being lax with social distancing requirements/mask wearing is unacceptable for a hotel given the unprecedented times and is contradictory with their own posted signs and policy. Given that the staff are not strictly enforcing mask wearing for customers in public areas at the hotel, I do not recommend this HGI. Not safe during COVID.

The dryer doesn't work. Been broken for months. Cheap fix, not sure why this hasn't been repaired or replaced yet.

We started the trip with what I can say was a can't be beat resort stay here. We each had our own king rooms that honestly almost made me hate my own home. From the start of the stay pulling up to the security gate and getting greeted with so much energy and friendliness then being handed a rosemary bag to bring you into the mood. Immediately I knew I would love this place. The valets were great. The lobby staff were great. I was at the resort for two days and I swear I never touched a door to open. My room was ready early which was a bonus and the room. Again just great. Spacious. Ultra clean. All the amenities you could want. Fridge bar area. Fireplace. Sliding double doors to a private patio overlooking a fantastic golf course. Giant bathroom with separate soaking tub that was divine. I could review the golf all by itself. Super nice caddy Jack who it was a pleasure to spend the day working alongside and perfect weather because it can certainly get hot out there. We had a catered private lunch and then we had dinner in the bar area and everything was, you guess it, perfect. I will be back it's just a matter of when.

There are also pickleball, tennis and bocce ball courts and a nice gym! We were a little concerned based on reviews we read but money was tight and we really had no choice but to stay here. There were no bugs. However, there was also no coffee pot, hair dryer, dresser, table, disposable plastic cups, ice bucket, ice machine, telephone, or anything resembling a decent lock on our door. Don't get me wrong, there WAS a lock on the door but it was the same kind of lock my older brother had on his bedroom door in the 1970s that anyone over the age of 10 could open with a playing card. I'm serious. It kind of sucked to have no table or dresser to put our clothes in/on. It would have been nice if there were a handful of hangers in the room so we could've at least hung some clothes up. Instead we had everything all over the floor. There were numerous homeless people in the immediate vicinity who were CLEARLY mentally ill including one woman who had the room next to us and came out one night accusing us of stalking her and threatening to call the police on us. We literally had never seen or spoken with her before this encounter. Now the upside. The toilet flushed with a TON of water which we loved and the shower was clean with great pressure and temperature and it had soap and shampoo dispensers in it. The manager (owner?), Bobby, is a nice man who runs the hotel with his father. He was very attentive when we told him about the crazy lady claiming we were stalking her however I wasn't very happy when he suggested he was going to keep $20 of my $50 deposit as a "cleaning fee" for the hair left in the room from our service animal. He quickly relented when I protested and reminded him that I had seen the messes some of his guests had left in their rooms and was certain our room wasn't anything close to the mess we had seen others make. All in all if money is an issue and you need a really cheap place where you can sleep and shower, The Oaks Motel is okay but don't expect anything fancy at all and understand that it is the cheapest hotel within 50 miles of Gilroy so you kinda get what you pay for.

When I called the front desk, instead of trying to fix their mistake, I was told I was wrong. There was no apology, no attempt to verify my reservation, and no effort to make things right. I was traveling with my wife and our two toddlers. Because the room didn't have the sleeping arrangements I reserved, my wife and children had to share the king bed while I slept on the floor. When I asked if they could provide a rollaway bed or any reasonable accommodation, I was told they would charge me even more for something that should never have been necessary. The night staff was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. When I asked for the manager's information, the employee refused to provide it and wouldn't even tell me his own name. That's not customer service--it's avoiding accountability. The only employee who treated us with respect was James the next morning. He listened, apologized, and provided the manager's contact information. Unfortunately, despite leaving my information, the manager has never bothered to return my call. To make matters even worse, I was charged more than the price I originally booked the room for, with no clear explanation. This hotel failed at the basics: honoring a reservation, treating guests with respect, resolving a problem they created, and following up afterward. Families should think twice before staying here because if something goes wrong, don't expect anyone to take responsibility. I will never stay at this Hampton by Hilton again, and I strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you expect professionalism, honesty, or even basic customer service.

The house if filled with lots of knickknacks that were fun to look at, Trish's little box of essential oils that you may smell, a variety of books you can thumb through while enjoying some time on the outdoor patio, and a television in the living room in case you want to just veg out. My friends room, the Kuschel Suite, featured a spacious full bath with a lovely claw foot tub with a great water pressure rain shower. Since I didn't have a shower in my room, the Kuschel Suite and the Captains Quarters shared the use of the shower/tub. One of my favorite parts of our stay was their sweet dog, SUGAR BEAR!
