    Emerald Bay Conference room. 2/2/2026
    Sandra L.

I have been to this Hilton hotel numerous times for conferences. They provide breakfast and lunch and the food is okay. The conference rooms are clean and well stocked with water. The parking can be a nightmare and they often run out and you'll need to park in the adjacent parking structure, which sucks because you never know if your conference will cover the cost. Other than the parking being an issue, I'd say this is a pretty nice venue if you are attending a conference.

Our whole lives taken because of the lack of security by Hilton and the bad place in front of the hotel where they instructed us to park.

I stayed at the Hilton Costa Mesa with my one-year-old son during a move. We trusted the hotel's valet service with a U-Haul carrying everything we owned after being told it would be safe. By morning, it was gone--along with everything inside. What's even harder to process is that the hotel noticed the U-Haul was missing around 1 AM during a shift change while we were still asleep in our room, and no one told us. They simply assumed we had left, without verifying. We woke up to shattered glass and our entire life stolen. Our belongings were later located at an encampment under a freeway overpass, destroyed and unsanitary. We were warned about serious health risks just trying to recover anything. The experience was deeply traumatic, especially with a one-year-old, and the lack of accountability or even basic communication from the hotel made it far worse. No one should go through something like this--especially when they trusted a hotel to keep their belongings safe.

This review is specifically for the hotel bar for happy hour. We successfully hosted a conference at this hotel and we wanted to celebrate afterwards. Our server was very helpful and friendly. They had your classic happy hour menu items, and we opted for the potstickers, sweet chili sauce chicken wings, and large pretzel. Our group had the white and red house wine and beers. Everything was pretty good and we had a wonderful time celebrating the completion of the Conference.

I stayed here for my birthday weekend and was really looking forward to it. The first night started off great--comfortable bed and delicious short ribs with mashed potatoes and chocolate mousse. But shortly after dinner, I got extremely sick with what seemed like food poisoning and was bedridden for two days. I let the staff know I was ill and couldn't eat the breakfast I ordered. I was told a manager would follow up, but no one ever did. I'm now on my last night, still in pain, and I'm extremely upset and disappointed. What was supposed to be a special weekend turned into a miserable experience, and the lack of care or follow-through from the hotel made it even worse. I couldn't even enjoy my stay.

Incredibly dark. Saving money keeping the lights off

Wow I got completely fooled by the photos. I don't know where to start as I am currently still staying here. There was no valet attendant and they are charging $45 to self park and $60 to valet overnight. The lobby is so dark you can barely see. They had one person working the front desk so the line was long and slow. Once I got in the room I was greeted to hair all over the shower curtain, a light that turns itself on and off, and incredibly thin sheets. I decided to check out the jacuzzi on floor two which is actually freezing. I learned the hard way. There are no towels near the jacuzzi, you have to go to the pool to grab them. Lastly I came to the bar for a bite and a beer and to do some work. The bartender has no personality, forgot my salad, brought the wrong dressing, forgot to give me silverware. Once the pizza came it has old chewy overcooked mushrooms basically inedible. The hotel is incredibly outdated and empty as can be. Such a waste of money super disappointed I will say the bartender/server was kind just poorly trained. There is no sense of passion it's lifeless here

    CTA conference

Attended a CTA training here this weekend and we stayed here. The hotel is very beautiful on the inside. Our room was nice the bed was comfortable and the pillows were gel memory material which was nice. They use Crabtree shower products which was a nice touch it smelled so good. The ONLY downsides were that upon arrival we couldn't find a bell service person to help us, they did not offer free handicap valet like other hotels AND... one of our lamps did not work. That is why I took one Star away. Honestly it should be 2 but the delicious food made up for it.

Is the digital key working recently? I stayed here a few times but the digital key has been down.

Mine did not work during my stay (August 2024).

How come digital room key doesn't work with elevator? There's no point. Still need to check in at the front desk

My digital key worked fine in the elevator. Did not have any problems.

Attending a conference there this Friday & Saturday. I'll be needing parking on both days. What is cost? I'm not staying over night. Just need Daley parking?

    Do you have air conditioners?

Yes they have AC / Heater you can adjust

Do they have a breakfast buffet here and warm chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon?

We got a queen bed room, and there was enough room for a chair however the chair was missing so there's a giant empty space. In that sense, the room could've been more properly furnished, but it was a little bit lacking. Regarding the bed, it was very comfortable, but as I was moving my elbow or my arm around, I was getting skin burns on the sheets. Maybe the sheets could've been finer threads or I don't know maybe I was moving my arms too much. Haha The shower and bathroom was very nice very clean and they had wheelchair accessible seating. The waifu really appreciated the showerhead pressure as the water came out like a jet and it was very nice and refreshing. Overall this was a solid place a solid hotel come check it out.

Honestly, I had no idea this hotel existed until a few months ago when a friend took me nearby to Hanuman for Thai - and I noticed the Ayres Hotel close-by. This is the flagship property of the Ayres hotel chain. It's nice, but not pretentious - a great location close to John Wayne Airport, UCI, Newport Beach/South Orange County. It's also close to the 55 and 405 if you're planning to visit Disneyland. I had a King Bedroom - room 359. Rachel checked me in and was prompt and efficient. Would've been nice to get a floorplan/map - I had no clue the room was right above the reception desk - I ended up moving my car out of the 10-min registration only spot, and drove further into the hotel lot to find an open spot. Then, made my way through the back entrance, taking awhile to find a elevator to the 3rd floor... only to walk all the way back towards the front entrance where my room was. There are two buildings - the main building houses the non-suite rooms, the lobby, business center, mini-store, and the hotel's restaurant - Le Chateau Garden Bistro - which I'll review in the near future. The side building houses all the suites. Both buildings have a pool. While other reviews mention that the hotel is dated - I thought it was tastefully maintained. I've stayed at old hotels - such as the Mark Hopkins up in San Francisco - that hotel had wear and tear being nearly 100 years old https://www.yelp.com/biz/intercontinental-mark-hopkins-san-francisco-san-francisco-4?hrid=aSfI8viZXBAW48GEjn4mVQ . This Ayres spot was kept in great shape. I appreciate all the space that even their non-suite bedroom had. You'll find a lot of things that more modern hotels lack these days - such as a full size tub instead of just a shower. Separate bar area with mini fridge. In-room safe. A bathroom door that closes and locks (looking at you Springhill Suites - with your non-locking, sliding bathroom doors!). The wall AC was noisy, but after awhile, I got used to it - and it actually helped drown out the noise at night since my room was facing busy Bristol Street. It probably would help if the hotel added soundproofing to the rooms facing the main road running alongside the hotel. Other than road noise - I didn't hear many airplanes despite being practically next to John Wayne Airport. It also helps that OC has a air curfew of 11pm. Room wifi was horrible. I couldn't stay on my work's zoom call because the internet kept dropping out. I did a speedtest, and the results were abysmal. Thankfully, I always pack a personal mobile hotspot modem for these reasons when traveling. The lobby is spacious, with plenty of seating. There is a business center with a printer if you need to print your plane tickets, etc. An ATM and brochures rack is near the lobby. There is also a mini-store on-site with self-checkout - good selection of snacks/drinks/ice cream - but just know that you're walking distance to a Shell gas station with food store, and 7-11 is a few steps further down - all walkable from the hotel. The on-site restaurant is Le Chateau Garden Bistro - and makes a great Monte Cristo, which I'll write about in a future review. Parking is $24/night unless its part of your package/promo rate. That can add up quickly. It doesn't make sense to charge so much when you're not nearby to any amusement parks. Overall, a decent hotel stay with some hiccups along the way. Again -more of a 3.5 stars visit instead of 4 stars, but I rounded up since it was closer to 4 stars than 3.

It was a 7 mile walk to, from and around the island. I don't know if the hotel has been renovated recently but it was the nicest Holiday Inn Express we have ever stayed at over the years. You can't tell from the outside as it does look older. We arrived at 4:00pm and our room was ready. The front desk staff we felt with over the two days we were here were very friendly. The lobby and dining area were bright and spacious. Although they serve breakfast, we didn't have a chance to take advantage of this amenity. There is a beverage cooler and a small market for snacks. There is also a small outdoor pool where several people were enjoying the water. Our room was located on the 2nd floor next to the elevator but we never heard the elevator, only people getting on/off as there is a tile floor. The room was clean and nice. Coffee, refrigerator, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand lotion, etc. A lighted mirror which was very nice. The shower was bright and looked new. Sitting area, desk and a bench in the room. We thought it was great. A little lower priced than most hotels in the area and was nicer than some of the more expensive hotels.

However, if you're a light sleeper like me, there is a specific way to play your stay here to get the best of both worlds: luxury and silence. The Room Strategy (3rd Floor Corner): We requested the quietest spot possible and were placed in a corner room on the 3rd floor, right across from the executive boardroom, which is a small meeting space. While the view was not anything to write home about because it was partially obscured by the "tent" structure near the pool, the tradeoff was perfect. Being at the far end of the hallway meant almost zero foot traffic. You can occasionally hear a faint toilet flush from a neighbor, but otherwise, it was impressively still. The room itself was surprisingly spacious for two queen beds. It honestly felt like a wheelchair-accessible layout in terms of floor real estate, even though the bathroom was standard. It was cozy, impeccably clean, and lived up to the Westin reputation for comfort. The Amenities and Vibe: The Pool: It is rare to find a hotel pool that goes down to 9 feet deep! It was kept at a perfect, cool lukewarm temperature. As a pro tip, grab a seat by the top part of the waterfall as it creates a great atmosphere. Service: I have to echo what others have said about the staff. The concierge was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to be accommodating, which is impressive considering how busy they were for the holiday. Location: You really are just a block away from South Coast Plaza. It is a very short and pleasant walk to some of the best shopping and dining in Orange County. Verdict: If you want the convenience of being near the mall but are worried about the noise of a busy hotel, ask for a corner room near the meeting spaces. It is the ultimate quiet sanctuary hack. I will definitely be staying here again!
