We were looking for Indian food near Kailua Beach and found this place. We were skeptical at first to order for pick up from here thinking it might not be good. We took a chance and so glad we did. The food was above and beyond our expectations for a group of 10. We had ordered chicken and lamb biryanis, shrimp, fish curries, veg biryani, dal and samosas. All the dishes were really good, didn't have too much oil, had good flavor and was neither hot nor bland. The lamb and the chicken in the biryani were very juicy and tender. Everyone from toddlers to seniors enjoyed the food and didn't have any digestion issues afterwards. read more

I have never been to India or Nepal - but if I were to go I would hope that the food there is as good as this hidden gem. Everything I have tried there is delicious, and they really can spice it up nicely. My kids love the lentils and butter chicken, and the bread basket is fantastic. The food is good but the service is dreadful. You can't place a phone order because they refuse to pick up the phone even at non-busy times of the day. It will ring and ring and sometimes you can tell they pick it up and hang up on you. Other times it will just time out. Even when you go in person you often have to wait for a very long time for them to acknowledge you. Very frustrating because I do like their food quite a bit - just wish I could have it more often. read more

We really enjoyed our takeout from Himalayan Kitchen. The chicken Tikka Masala was great and the Madras curry was even better! Quite spicy for "medium", which I was very happy with. Entrees come with rice included. We also got an order of jalapeno garlic naan - a yummy and unique naan iteration. Parking was easy and pickup was quick. AAAmazing!!! This place is soooo good. In the old India Cafe location, we were actually going for India Cafe but saw they had a new name. The smell of the food was making our mouths water before we even set foot inside. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, naan, Shrimp Madras curry & chicken tikka wrap. Seriously life changing. My friend even ordered a to go order so she could have the curry & naan again for dinner. Cooks & cashier were very nice & prompt to help. Food took about 15 min & they let us know it's cooked to order just how we request it. Welp, it will be hard to start my diet knowing this amazing place is just 5 minutes from my job. Popped in for a quick lunch today, and it was a win! The place is small, but there are also a few outside tables. The staff is very kind and accommodating, also knowledgeable about their ingredients. I started with the meat samosas, very tender ground beef spiced well. The pastry was perfectly fried and flaky, and the accompanying yogurt sauce was nice for dipping. For my main I had the beef sesh kabob, I can't complain. The rice it came with was fluffy, there was a cooling salad, and also a small sampling of that days curry. Most notable about this place is how well everything was spiced. Nothing lacked flavor or was overpowering. Tasted like real, home cooked Indian food. read more

I have to start by saying the gentleman was a very kind and attentive representative. The food was good but not great. Three of us had chicken based curries and the chicken was the problem. A little unclear on if this business is actually Himalayan Kitchen or India Cafe (it says India Cafe on the outside) but the service was quick, the guy at the counter was fun, and the food was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered his food at an 8/10 spice and I got a 5/10 and they were actually spicy. Two meals with rice and 2 naan plus top was about $42. My wife called asking if they had a website to view the menu, a man said to look at the menu on bite squad. We then ordered via bite squad to pick up in person. The website said pickup would be ready in 45 min. Upon arrival, there was a few people in line ordering in person and picking up. We waited our turn(took 10 min). When we have our name, she said she did not have an order for us, I explained we placed and paid for our order online, 1 hr ago. She then came back and said they just got the bite squad order 5 minutes ago(obvious lie) and we would have to wait 45 min! I begrudgingly decided I'd wait. No apology from the lady, in fact we got a lot of excuse with attitude from her. She made no attempt to even offer that they would expedite our order that was already paid for 1 hr ago. The whole time my attitude was patient and understanding, I could tell they were busy, but the lack of apology or even acknowledgement of their error by this lady employee was frustrating. The party behind me had the same thing happen, their online order was not started, again she gave some excuse...and it would take 30 min. We all waited...she would call out people's order as it was ready. 40 min later she puts 2 big bags on the table, but doesn't call out any name. We wait patiently. Then she in turn calls out 3 more orders for customers to pickup , including the couple who ordered much after us. When I ask if my food was ready, it turns out it was the 2 bags that she did not call out that sat for 10 min. I wanted to scream...she gave no apology, I just took the bags and walked away. The food was good, but NOT worth the really sour taste this lady left in my mouth. No amount of Raita can sweeten this lady's poor attitude. She was emotionless and unfriendly to many of the guest as we watched and waited. Good help should be easier to find in these trying times. AVOID THIS PLACE!! The place has two people working only, a chef and a server/ prep guy / host. I saw that the server was preparing chicken tandoori with his bare hands (no gloves) knowing he was serving people and answering phone calls without washing them. My husband and I are visiting from California. We make it a point to get Indian food every time we travel. Himalayan Kitchen is perfect. The spice was spot on. Garlic naan was cooked perfectly. The Himalayan Kitchen in Kailua has the best Indian food I've had. I've tried more than half of their menu and everything was perfectly balanced with flavors and spices. I'm especially a fan of their curries and naan breads, since it's hard to find authentic Himalayan cuisine in Hawaii. They have a wide variety of choices which is perfect when you have different cravings for meat (beef, chicken, lamb, seafood, and more), savory flavors, or something more creamy. There's even a large selection of fresh naan bread you can choose from. You really can't go wrong when choosing because they're all that good. Spice level can be adjusted to your liking and the person taking your order usually asks lots of questions so they can prepare your food exactly to your preference. read more

Our order was taken at the front door and wasn't a negative experience per se, but we certainly weren't made to feel welcome by any means, more like an inconvenience? The food was promptly prepared within the 20 minute window and was piping hot when we got home. We ordered shrimp tandoori, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The garlic naan and shrimp Tandori were good but maybe a 6.5/10 compared to really good versions we've enjoyed. We love butter chicken and chicken tikka but these were a miss for us. Chicken was quite dry so while it was coated in the sauce, wasn't flavorful or enjoyable in the mouth if that makes sense. read more

We stopped to try the food as it has just opened. Having had great food in the homes of friends from India and Nepal, we had high expectations. We were not disappointed. The food was outstanding. We ordered butter chicken and lamb in the Himalayan style. Nice flavor just the right amount of spice. Be aware it can get very busy and there can be a wait. Pretty unique spot. The employees were uber friendly and appreciative we were there. The place wasn't necessarily flashy by any means, but their was something small and raw about the experience that made it feel like an awesome hole in the wall. Def recoomend.
