Daal soup, vegetable salad, butter chicken (comes with rice)
    Linda T.

Everything was so good!! The butter chicken and naan though!! Easily the best I've had on island! The garlic naan was crispy and fresh and combined with the butter chicken sauce was phenomenal. The vegetable salad we got was not the freshest so would not get again. The cucumbers had tough skin and we had to spit out some seeds. We also got the daal soup, it wasn't the most flavorful but was hearty. Would def come again for the other curries.

We were so happy when this place opened. It's a small charming spot and most of the orders when we went were to go. A very long line of to go orders. But the team worked it efficiently and with a smile. The food was outstanding and such generous portions of chicken in the tikka. The sauces were so flavorful. Great location. Excellent food and lovely staff. What more could one hope for.

So excited they opened in Kailua. Definitely the best Indian food on the island. I usually get the shrimp biryani and garlic naan but this time we tried new things and you can't go wrong. Butter chicken, coconut curry shrimp, shrimp vandooli & chicken tikka masala with chicken breast. We love the chicken breast please keep using it.

Since it's located along Kapahulu street, the location is a bit inconvenient. However, there is parking on the side of the building or street parking. I went in the afternoon and was lucky enough to get street parking across the street. When I went in, there was only one other party. The restaurant was also a bit hot. I'm not sure if it's because the aircon wasn't working or what but they did have fans. The server was kind enough to give us the table in front of the fan because he knew it was hot. The service was very quick and the food came out fast. The server was very nice and attentive. The food was as delicious as I remember. Everything was flavorful. And the one thing I appreciate is that the basmati rice comes with the curry, other Indian restaurants make you pay extra.

It's sized for two having a single dish. So keep that in mind. There are only three tables inside, two slightly larger and a tiny one Take out is a better choice but we wanted to est there. We ordered chicken korma, butter chicken, butter naan, sweet lassi and mango lassi. Basmati rice comes with the entrees. Include 2 glasses of water and two dinner plates. So the naan and the rice had to go on a chair. There are only two chairs so we had to scramble to find a spare. Overall, the food is good. We enjoyed the butter chicken which was sweet, the chicken korma was ok, loved the naan, was puffy and slightly crisp. Fluffy basmati rice. The lassi's were delicious, both flavors. It was a wonderful lunch. Prices were reasonable , service was lovely. and we'll be back. Weird encounter which was quite Inappropriate. We were solicited by two young Mormon girls right in the middle of our meal. They just wouldn't leave, at least 10 minutes of random nothing. Kids need to learn manners. That was really irritating.

It's a small restaurant that has the maximum capacity of 15-20 people guests. Each appetizer's portion can be shared with about 2 people (if you don't want to eat too little of each serving). Price was reasonable for average level of dining in a small restaurant. Each curry order is for a guest, which comes with a bowl of rice. I believe you can have them to serve additional rice if you feel your curries need more rice. For 2 people, maybe it's better to order at least 2-3 naans (Indian bread that can be eaten with curry as well) We ordered Rogan Josh, Saag Paneer, Tadka Biryani, Tadka Tandoori, and other different types of curries and naans. I feel the curries with the lamb, I couldn't taste much of the lambs like some other Indian cuisine places I tried before. I personally prefer to have a bit more lamp smell and taste instead of curries cover most of its taste. The curry I like the most there were Saag Paneer (color looks different from the rest of curries we ordered, feeling it was more unique, and I enjoyed the cheese inside as well) My friends and family really enjoyed their naans. Staff are all nice, friendly, and courteous. Pleasant experience to dine there with friends or family. Will definitely go again in future time.

We got 2 garlic naan, 2 samosas, biriyani, and 3 curries for four people. It was good portions and very tasty. The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were so good. We got them medium and they weren't too spicy. My husband got the lamb Rogan Josh extra spicy and he loved it. The garlic naan and samosas were also delicious. Everything was so good. So I decided to order a couple of items and keep my cost down and get a treat. I waited patiently for the restaurant was full and there were patrons, people waiting for take out and uber drivers in and out. I took a seat and waited and waited. The staff was cordial and polite. My issue was when I went home. I ordered the lamb rogan dish which had literally 2 one inch pieces of meat and the rest was sauce. I mean, I loved the flavor and loved the sauce but 2 pieces of meat? You charge a hefty price for this. I feel at least 5 pieces of meat and sauce would be ok for the price we pay. Anyhow, the rest of the meal was absolutely delicious.

We requested that our dishes be prepared with a milder spice level, which turned out to be a great choice because we were able to fully appreciate all the wonderful spices and flavors. We ordered the special mixed kebab biryani platter, which included shrimp, chicken, and lamb served over a bed of biryani rice. The presentation was impressive! We also ordered the fish tandoori, which came in a flavorful curry sauce that my family absolutely loved. As a special treat, the chef prepared another fish dish for us in a coconut curry style. The taste was immaculate--rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We couldn't stop dipping our stuffed cheesy naan into the curry sauce. None of us wanted that dish to end--we wished we had ordered more! A nice bonus is that many of these special dishes can be made upon request. Just contact the restaurant ahead of time, and they will gladly prepare them for your visit. Our servers were fantastic as well. They constantly made sure we were taken care of, refilling water, bringing extra napkins, and providing boxes when needed. With the new décor in place, the restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and inviting. It is a smaller space, so tables are fairly close together, but that only adds to the cozy atmosphere--you might even make friends with fellow diners. Overall, Cafe Maharani continues to be my go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine!
