It was raining outside and with little kids with us - we decided to do Indian take out food. I usually don't prefer to have Indian food when I am on the road but when I do get it, it satisfies me a lot :) The mater paneer, daal makhni and naan's really hit the spot! The quality was quite a bit for the price we paid. We ordered rice and they gave a huge quantity! Would love to come back for an in person meal - to check out their service and ambiance / vibe.

Place is kind of grungy but usually places like that have the best food lol. There's absolutely no parking because it's downtown. So you gotta find a parking structure or street park and walk over. The walk will help you with hunger and help with digesting after. We've tried most of the Indian places on the island and hands down they have the BEST butter chicken and baigan baharta (egg plant dish). Every time the hubs ask me where to eat on our lunch dates, it's this place like half the time.

Amazing Indian food! We were celebrating a couple of our friends birthdays and did family style and everyone enjoyed all the selections. Our waiter was the best in service and even brought out rice pudding for our birthday gals!

Update on the missed Mango Lassi - they were out of it at the time of my order on my first visit so it did not register on my order. The owner recognized me from my original review and explained what happened. (Thank you). I returned to eat a few more times and they had the mango lassi available a couple of times (delicious and thick like it should be!) I also tried the Chicken Tandoori and Lamb Biryani and for my last day in Honolulu - Lamb Vindalu once again. All the dishes were excellent, flavorful and plentiful! With all the food choices in Honolulu - the taste and quality of Kamana's dishes kept me coming back for more. Kamana Indian Cuisine is definitely on my go to list whenever I am in Honolulu! PS - it gets busy but well worth the wait.

Located downtown on Bishop Street, near Fort Street mall area. Excellent service, friendly workers. They seem to have Regulars that go to the restaurant and make everyone feel welcomed. Food was great! So tasty. Not overpowering. The lunch portion was still a lot for me and I'm so glad I had left overs because I enjoyed it the next day. They are able to split the bill if you have a big party.

Good indian food restaurant. Never thought I'd like indian food, but after trying their Naan bread with buttered chicken, I fell in love! Both tasted so good together, that I want more in the future haha. I am now open to trying other food items they have on thier menu and will be returning. The wait time seems a while, but I believe that everything comes out Hot and fresh. Definitely worth the wait.

Kamana Kitchen is living proof that you don't need chic décor to sling seriously good Indian food. The inside is definitely on the dingy side and vibes that say "we care more about flavor than feng shui." But once the food lands, you stop caring and start plotting your return. The Thali is the star. Fluffy rice, naan warm and perfectly chewy, and papadum so crispy it might file for crunch rights. The curries? The butter chicken was creamy and rich, the daal tasted like comfort in a ladle, and the lamb curry had the kind of depth that only happens when spices marinate for hours. Full honesty: the chicken itself leaned a little rubbery but that sauce? Enough to make you forgive and forget. You'll end up chasing every last drop with naan anyway, so who's really mad? Kamana is the kind of joint where you look around, think "did I just walk into a cafeteria?" and then get absolutely blown away by the food. Would eat here again even if they served it in a basement with no lights.

Finally checking this spot off my Yelp bookmarked list! Cozy little Indian restaurant located in the heart of downtown. I work in the area so it's a nice 10 minute walk from my workplace. I didn't know this spot offers online ordering, will definitely place an order in advance next time. I ordered the palak paneer and garlic naan. The palak paneer was bursting with flavors and spices. It was a huge portion too, was only able to eat half of the meal and brought my leftovers home for my husband to try.

Met some friends here for lunch- a hole in the wall downtown, with pretty good food. Saag could have had a little more flavor, but everything was still delicious and reasonable in price. Quick service too.

Check in: We arrived on a rainy afternoon and ordered naan, lamb korma, butter chicken and saag paneer. Rice also came with the order. Female staff was so thoughtful and caring. We brought our own alcoholic drinks and they gave us extra glasses for them. Food was excellent and service was wonderful! Always a go to in downtown Honolulu!

Hi! I don't eat onion and garlic (and vegetarian). Any chance you can accommodate my restrictions? Thank you!

Can you get the lunch specials menu to go or is it dine in only? Thanks!

You can order the thali (lunch combo) to go HOWEVER I noticed the quantity is smaller on the takeout.

Where can you get parking if you wanna eat here please help?

We parked at Ali'i Place. It is close and relatively cheap for downtown.

Do we need to reserve a table or can we walk in?

How many people are in your group? We've walked in, just as a couple but if you have a larger group or need special seating arrangements, it'll be a good idea to call for a reservation.

Is Kamana now open for takeout by myself? Meaning don't have to use bitesquad, etc.

Yes it is and you don't have to use bite-squad if you are able to pick up the food.

    Does Kamana do delievery?

Yes. Please, contact through Bite Squad or Doordash...Thank you...

Does anyone know if they're still taking takeout orders?

They temporarily closed and are not taking takeout orders :(

    Is it BYOB?

Thanks. We have alcoholic beverage too if you wanna bring yourself it will charge for corkage fee.

    Do they cook with MSG?

According to two employees at the restaurant whom I spoke with today, they do not use MSG in their food.

What are the times for lunch special? Thanks

    10 am to 3 pm.

Where's the best place to park?

Thanks. There is a street parking in front of the restaurant, if it is full nearest & cheaper one is Alii Place (1099 Alakea St. Honolulu, HI 96813). Per hour 75 cents.

It's a small restaurant that has the maximum capacity of 15-20 people guests. Each appetizer's portion can be shared with about 2 people (if you don't want to eat too little of each serving). Price was reasonable for average level of dining in a small restaurant. Each curry order is for a guest, which comes with a bowl of rice. I believe you can have them to serve additional rice if you feel your curries need more rice. For 2 people, maybe it's better to order at least 2-3 naans (Indian bread that can be eaten with curry as well) We ordered Rogan Josh, Saag Paneer, Tadka Biryani, Tadka Tandoori, and other different types of curries and naans. I feel the curries with the lamb, I couldn't taste much of the lambs like some other Indian cuisine places I tried before. I personally prefer to have a bit more lamp smell and taste instead of curries cover most of its taste. The curry I like the most there were Saag Paneer (color looks different from the rest of curries we ordered, feeling it was more unique, and I enjoyed the cheese inside as well) My friends and family really enjoyed their naans. Staff are all nice, friendly, and courteous. Pleasant experience to dine there with friends or family. Will definitely go again in future time.

We requested that our dishes be prepared with a milder spice level, which turned out to be a great choice because we were able to fully appreciate all the wonderful spices and flavors. We ordered the special mixed kebab biryani platter, which included shrimp, chicken, and lamb served over a bed of biryani rice. The presentation was impressive! We also ordered the fish tandoori, which came in a flavorful curry sauce that my family absolutely loved. As a special treat, the chef prepared another fish dish for us in a coconut curry style. The taste was immaculate--rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We couldn't stop dipping our stuffed cheesy naan into the curry sauce. None of us wanted that dish to end--we wished we had ordered more! A nice bonus is that many of these special dishes can be made upon request. Just contact the restaurant ahead of time, and they will gladly prepare them for your visit. Our servers were fantastic as well. They constantly made sure we were taken care of, refilling water, bringing extra napkins, and providing boxes when needed. With the new décor in place, the restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and inviting. It is a smaller space, so tables are fairly close together, but that only adds to the cozy atmosphere--you might even make friends with fellow diners. Overall, Cafe Maharani continues to be my go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine!
