Fantastic food, but slow service. We have eaten here both in-restaurant, and by ordering takeout over the phone. The food is great, and we really enjoy their mutter paneer, Nepali thali, and momos. Their chicken curries are really, really good, and they sometimes grill the chicken to order. The main drawback is that they are absurdly slow to process orders. In-store, we received 2 dishes and then waited about 30 minutes for the last one. When we get takeout, we get the impression that the only start cooking once you show up to claim the order. On busy nights, there is a sizeable line of to-go couriers waiting outside to pick up orders. read more

TLDR: This isn't a date restaurant, more of a no-frills place with awesome food. Tiny restaurant, HUGE menu. I'd recommend this place more for take-out or delivery, simply because the small space can get full very quickly. Also, it can get pretty uncomfortably hot inside with the heaters during the winter - the one time I ate in, a heater was directly adjacent to our table and I felt like I was getting a sunburn. Himalayan Kitchen has a ton of vegetarian options, all of which that I've tried are delicious! I would definitely recommend trying their Palak Paneer pizza. The large is only 13.95, and you're getting plenty of bang for your buck (definitely enough for 2-3 people). Food is served fast, piping hot, and soooo darn good. My friends and I came here for lunch. There are a lot of options in somverville for good food but we never been here and decided to give a try. The menu had so many interesting choices from Indian to Himalayan and Nepali food. What we ordered was indian and the food was tremendous. We ordered goat biryani, I dont recall ever eating goat I usually have had lamb biryani but the goat was phenomenal and the rice that came with it was unbelievable. This dish also came with homemade plain yogurt. The steamed chicken Momo were so good with the hot sauce. Chicken Wings on the grill is a must. These wings were meaty and tasty. The naan bread was some of the best I have had in a long time. Garlic, plain and cheese all baked fresh on the spot.. Chicken tiki masala was a little different than the usual indian places I eat at. This was more creamier, thicker and it was my favorite dish. The service was great everyone here is really nice. The food is served on plastic plates and to go containers. After double-checking the Yelp reviews I was confident in my order. Ordered two orders of samosas and one garlic naan. Carbs be calling LOL. I was disgusted with what arrived. 3 out of 4 of the samosas were fried to a crisp and inedible. They look like they were scorched by a fire-breathing dragon. The naan was okay but after losing my appetite from the samosas I couldn't eat it. I was surprised to see the packaging was all styrofoam. That was also a disappointment. It's not difficult for restaurants to transition to environmentally friendly Packaging. I hope they get on the ball with this. Sooooo excited to find Himalayan Kitchen and to learn that there's free delivery!! My friends and I came in person and gorged on Chicken Momos, Chicken Chili, Chicken Do, and Garlic Naan. The chicken chili was soooo yummy! The chicken pieces were lightly fried and tossed in a bomb sauce! The Chicken Do and naan paired perfectly to make a delicious, hearty combination of flavors! You seriously can't go wrong with any of the dishes and the naan really seals the deal. I straight up devoured the chilli sauce using my fork, well after my eight spicy chicken momos (pan fried? WHAT?) disappeared. Mint and heat and sticky, fiery, crispy skin and spice and steam and... oh man, I need to go take a cold shower. What a take on the bar staple. It was my first time here but the food and people here were fantastic? The first thing we got were the spicy pork momo. They are covered in a tasty sauce but come out quick enough that the dumplings are still crispy, I highly highly recommend them. For our main meal I had the chicken makhani which was a very rich curry. By itself it was a little too rich but with the garlic Naan or rice it was just right. My friend got the goat curry which was seasoned well with spices but I liked the chicken curry better personally. For a drink we had the mango lassi which was a fruity yogurt drink that was thick and delicious definitely recommend. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the chyoila. To me it tasted over charred or burnt. I'm not sure if it was the dish or my palate but it wasn't for me. End of the day when you come get a mango lassi, the momo, and a curry and you won't go wrong. When I go in to pick up my order, the 4 tables are always full of college aged kids eating delicious spicy dishes. I order thru GrubHub, and both times ordered "C Momo." Not realizing that stood for "chilli." Luckily I love spice! The c momo come in this great bright red sauce with onions and peppers. The sauce is what's hot, and it's flavorful, with a slow burn. Not for the faint of heart. I did pork momo the first time and chicken the second. Both were really good! The man behind the counter said the chicken chilli momo is his favorite dish, however. I got the chow mein, which was also quite good. Chow mein is a bit boring in principle, but I enjoyed the fresh, big cuts of vegetables and chewy noodles. The Chicken Tikka Pizza. Dear God this is a genius dish. The pizza here is good (it's not New York style, but it's not shitty Boston Pizza either). We got a small, and the crust was still an appropriate size (not too much crust around the ends). The star was of course the toppings. Delicious masala sauce under cheese, topped with big but tender slices of chicken and veggies. My roommate ordered this the next day after I had him try a bite. Also tried the samosa. Flaky, savory, crumbly. I truly think that was the best samosa I'd ever had. How are they doing this! Overall, I love this place and can't wait to try more of the food! Chicken Curry spiced hot,Tawa Bread spiced hot, Chicken Madris spiced hot, Lamb Curry spiced hot, Spicy Momos, This was actually our thirdtime ordering from here since moving to the Somerville area last month, but sadly, we don't think we'll be coming back for more after our experience tonight... We placed our order online via Himalayan's website and asked that our Chicken Curry and Tawa Bread both be spicy hot... The exact same as we had previously gotten orders two times before. Much to our surprise, the bread was pretty darn spicy, but the entree had absolutely no kick whatsoever... Interestingly, a customer who came in just in front of us had specifically requested no spice... We understand that mistakes are made and that customers should give places a bit of slack, but we just don't get why such places like Himalayan Kitchen then don't offer a small compensation for their own mistakes. Once we tasted the first bite of the Chicken Curry and immediately recognized it was lacking any spice, we called to explain the situation and said we would be returning for a replacement meal. Mind you, meanwhile, our Tawa Bread continued getting colder by the minute. After almost a 15 minute drive to get there again, we simply got an apology and was told that should a problem ever happen like this in the future, they would "make it right".WHAT??? Obviously, any reputable establishment would correct their error, but how about giving your customer a free appetizer or something else on the next order? I mean, all we got was what we actually paid for, minus some dried out Tawa Bread from having to reheat it and 25 minutes of lost time. Also, unlike with our previous orders, they managed to go overboard on the spiciness, to the point that the flavor itself was lost... All heat and no depth! The multicultural inclusivity is apparent from the owners all the way to the menu, and the people are just as warm and amazing as the food! My girlfriend and I ordered the spicy chicken momos, samosas, lamb korma, chili chicken, multiple pita breads, mango lassi, and the rice pudding for dessert. I would recommend each and every one of them to everyone. My only regret is that I didn't get to try more of the menu.
