So happy to find an Indian place in the South Loop! The food here is amazing and not spicy like other places. I called ahead of time and placed an order for pickup. Food was ready in about 25 minutes. The portions were good and I had enough for a few leftovers. I ordered chicken tikka, garlic naan, and the white rice (came with chicken tikka). This Himalayan is really wonderful. It has a decent interior decor and visual appeal for the food but, the taste is super good. The spices are on point and you cannot be disappointed. This is a great place for vegetarians and vegans to taste a whole new world because it was just a flavor bomb every bite I took. We are so happy to have this restaurant in the Loop/ Printer's Row area. It's not a chain, it's very reasonably priced for the area and the food is delicious!! Our favorite is the lamb samosas; which is not common on menus and a must to try. The samosa is flour patties stuffed with lamb that is juicy & flavourful. Also try the Tandoori whole chicken, it's marinated in yogurt with ginger, garlic & herbs & grilled in a clay oven. Although I've only mentioned two dishes, everything we've had has been delicious. We first stopped-in a week after the restaurant opened and we haven't stopped going back & trying different dishes, which never disappoint. The food is not the only reason to go back, the staff is great. We met Mannisha one of the servers, the first time we visited. She was so welcoming, helpful, friendly and professional. Chicken tikka masala's sauce was nice and thick. We had gotten medium spicy but that turned out to not be very spicy. Can use a little more yogurt flavor. Vegetable samosa was very good, the crust being light and flaky. As grubhub delivered the food 35 minutes early, the naan was cold by the time I ate it. So I can't tell for sure. Rice came in two small Styrofoam containers and they included two Styrofoam plates. Wish they and other restaurants would be more environmental. Came here on a cold fall evening. Very cozy and inviting. The lentil soup was great and so was the naan. My wife had curry chicken with coconut and it was prepared very well. Will definitely return in the future and probably hit them up for carry out quite a bit. Service was excellent. read more

Officially in love with Himalayan Restaurant's momos. The last time I had momo was in Northern India and resulted in food poisoning, so the fact that I've given them another shot AND crave them on a daily basis is really saying a lot. The first time I came I started off easy with the steamed chicken momo. Something about the chicken inside is soooo delicious and flavorful. Paired with a bit of sauce, it's fantastic. The next time, I decided to step up my game and opted for chicken chili momo. WOW. The red sauce scared me a little bit at first but now I'm hooked. Extremely flavorful, perfect amount of spice, and oh so good. If I lived closer, I would get these every day. Some day, if I can ever pull myself away from the momo, I'll try one of their Indian dishes. read more

I worked in the area for a couple of years when this place first opened, I had no idea what a "Himalayan Restaurant" meant but I'm always on the lookout for cleaner food options so I wandered in. I'm sure you know but turns out it's pretty much Indian but with some tweaks and menu items I've never heard of, which brings me to the best vegetarian entre I've come across, veg momo soup, as they would call it. It is a sort of dumpling filled with vegetable chunks, steamed and served in a very spicy tomato based sauce. The vegetarian options are all delicious. My other favorites are dal makani and navratan korma. They have an affordable lunch special in which you can pick one two or three entree dishes served with rice and a small piece of naan. Two entrees are plenty but it's so good you'll have to resist getting three. Lunch is walk up and order and dinner is sit down with a server. If you like delicious food and spice, go here now. Its mostly casual so dates would be fine but don't expect romantic. The only con is sometimes the wait on the momo is excessively long. read more

Superb. I've ordered delivery numerous times because I'm always so impressed by the food. I get the chicken tikka masala (mild is NO spiciness, medium is a little spicy which I prefer) the garlic naan which is perfect and never leaves me feeling garlic-ee, and the mango lassi which is thick and delicious. Momos are the best no doubt. As a native of Nepal, I have had Momos in plenty of other places but these guys know what they are doing. Make sure to order jhol Momos which are basically chicken dumplings in piping hot, savory tomato sauce. Lunch combos are good serving sizes and easy on the pocket too. Veg food is quite unremarkable. We ordered paneer tikka and Dal makhani with garlic naan. Quite bland... the hotness was ok but the flavor was lacking, especially in paneer tikka. Wow! Wow! Wow! I am so impressed! We stumbled upon this great place through Yelp when we were staying at the Swissotel for a conference. We have tried lots of different places while visiting and this was the best one we found! We ordered the chicken korma and lamb curry both spicy hot and the spice was perfect! Definitely a nose clearer level but oh so worth it. We also got the garlic naan and they were fluffy and perfectly cooked. The only con we could find is this place is in Chicago and not San Antonio where we live! When back in Chicago we will definitely return! read more
