Love the food here, definitely my current favorite for a great Indian curry in Atlanta.

Always a solid delivery on the food. Stripped down atmosphere for sure---but the food and service are good and the menu is on point.

I went here on the recommendation of an Indian person who assured me it was the most authentic Indian cuisine in Atlanta. I ordered samosas, Gobi Manchurian, and Naan. The samosas were warm, but not hot. The Gobi Manchurian was pretty much just sweet and sour cauliflower. The Naan was okay. The best thing about the meal was the onion chutney. So, maybe I ordered the wrong things. Not sure. But it was disappointing. Or maybe I just caught them on an off day. Or maybe their lunch is better? My favorite Indian is still Masti. Himalayas Indian Restaurant has been in Atlanta for almost 20 years. I finally got to try out this establishment for myself recently and came away pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is tucked away inside a giant strip mall on Peachtree Industrial Blvd, just south of I-285. It's in the same shopping plaza that China Inn used to be in. The restaurant space is one giant rectangle with booths running down both sides and tables in the middle. Decor is simple, yet elegant. Small chandeliers hang from above, tablecloth dining with real flowers at each table. The booths on the north wall have extra furnishings and decorations including artwork and individual lamps. At dinnertime, most parties are seated in one of the booths. During the evening hours, these guys bring candlelit ambiance to a whole 'nother level. You're almost literally dining in nothing but candlelight. It was so hard for us to see when we first entered the restaurant. When I took pictures of the food (as I normally do), I felt like the flash on my camera was lighting up the entire place. After our meal was over and our eyes had adjusted, I still thought it was too dark. I'd actually like to be able to see the food I'm about to eat! They just need to turn up the interior lighting a tad. The restaurant serves about 70 or so different selections of Indian cuisine including biryani (meats cooked with aromatic basmati rice and flavored with saffron) and tandoori (meats roasted in an open-top clay oven). Most of the entrees are priced around $9 to $15 each. At lunchtime on weekends (12:00-2:30pm), they offer an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for only $8.50. The buffet features about 10 selections and is the best value when dining here. I tried the following: Lentil soup Papadam (crispy spicy tortilla) with condiment stand consisting of: - onion chutney, brown tamarind sauce, and green mint sauce Nan - puffy bread Raita - yogurt Pilaw rice - rice cooked in a seasoned broth Chicken Tikka Masala - boneless chicken tandoori (white meat) sauteed in masala gravy with fresh tomatoes Chicken Kurma - cooked with very mild spices in creamy sauce Mango lassi The lentil soup was mild, light, and refreshing. It had little bits of green vegetables in it. The papadam was great. One order comes with 3 delicate, extra crispy "tortillas." The papadam was infused with spices so it had a small bite to it. The condiments had strong flavors and we liked them so much we asked our server to leave the condiments on our table after we were finished with the papadam so we could eat them with our rice and nan bread. The nan was fantastic. It had been freshly baked and was huge and puffy. It was overflowing from the plate it was served on. Soft and pleasant texture. The raita yogurt proved perfect for cooling off our tastebuds in between bites. It went well with everything (carbs and proteins). I loved the pilaw rice as it was fluffy and aromatic. Almost addictive. Both the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Kurma were made from white meat chicken. The best thing about these dishes were the gravy sauces the meats were cooked in. Full of spices and seasonings, so a lot of flavor. The Chicken Tikka Masala can be prepared as spicy as you'd like it. The sauce was a deep burnt orange and a little tangy thanks to the fresh chunks of tomatoes. It's one of the restaurant's most popular dishes. I preferred the Chicken Kurma, one of my favorite Indian dishes, because of it's rich, slightly sweet, creamy sauce (light brown in color). Some cuts of chicken were more tender than others, but as a whole, these dishes were very good and I recommend both of them. If you're looking for a good drink to try, definitely order a lassi. Lassi is a yogurt-based drink that is also mixed with Indian spices. Himalayas has 3 flavors: plain, mango, and cherry. I tried the mango lassi and it was superb. Ice cold and nice and thick. Once you start gulping it down, you can't stop. Seriously. Service was interesting. One of the servers saw us headed towards the restaurant from the parking lot, so he grabbed some menus and opened the door for us to welcome us in. Most, if not all, of the servers here are big time upsellers. After I ordered the entrees, the server asked us if we wanted any bread. Before we could even answer, he mumbled, "Papadam would be good. OK?" Then he briskly walked away. They were also hard sellers on the mango lassi and dessert. I overheard one server taking away an empty wine glass from the table behind us and then trying to convince those customers to have more wine. One of the customers replied, "What are you trying to do? Turn us into alcoholics?!" That was funny. So, the upselling was annoying, but the rest of the service was good. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the servers were attentive to our needs. read more

Can't believe I spent about $20 for dinner, esp. considering I could've gotten more variety and unlimited amounts of food at an Indian lunch buffet (like Cafe Bombay - my favorite). It didn't help either that the food here was just so-so. As Todd P mentioned in his review, we had a party of 9, and ordered the assorted apps platter, 9 different entrees, and a few orders of naan. One thing we should've done was order the entrees "a la carte" instead of the "dinner" portion. The "dinner" portion is a few dollars more, and includes rice, raita, soup, and hot tea - but I think only some folks ate their soup (which by the way was probably my favorite) and only a couple people drank the hot tea. We probably didn't order a good variety either b/c like Todd said, a lot of the dishes looked alike and some tasted very similar to each other. Portions were disappointingly small, too. In my opinion, I think Indian buffets are the way to go. I'm all about getting good value :) read more

I was a bit worried that the change in location also meant a change in the food as I really loved the food at the original location off Hwy 141 (or Peachtree Road). However, I definitely like the newer location for the following reasons: PROS: - better deco: about the same but perhaps slightly smaller establishment - atmosphere is more quaint, versus their previous location in a large shopping mall - easier to find because it's one of a few in a row CONS: - parking is a lot harder - off the main road, definitely have to GPS unless you know the area Food quality and flavors are still consistent. My BFF and I again split the following: Butter Lamb (similar to Butter Chicken) PROS: - fantastic flavors: still the same as before. - lamb was very tender: not overcooked - great amount of sauce, enough to coat the meat just perfectly. CONS: -none Saag Paneer: spinach and goat cheese PROS: - same great quality - good flavors: not overpowering yet not bland but definitely lighter compared to the butter chicken CONS: - none Naan: PROS: - great quantity, definitely worthy of sharing - not burnt, not dry and fluffy CONS: - certain bits were a bit flatter than others, but not necessarily a con. They may have just deflated faster than we got to eat them. Service was on point as usual. The rice came as part of our orders, and it was wonderfully done - soft, fluffy, not hard or undercooked, came out piping hot. There were plenty left for us to take home. A local, dependable restaurant for authentic Indian cuisine. Moiz and his brother always produce delicious, savory, and depending on how much "fire" you like, spicy food! The bar is small but comfortable, and can handle diners as well, but my wife and I always prefer their outside seating. Large umbrellas provide shade at each table. The drink list is not very large but we'll-appointed and reasonably priced. We started with the shrimp puri (sorry, we ate it so fast we couldn't get a photo!), then had the lamb buryani and the chicken jafrezzi, with garlic naan. Everything was delivered hot and plentiful. I told Moiz next time, we'll ask for half the amount of rice that we received - very generous amount. Food is good but DON'T Order online. When I went to check out they tried to charge me a 20% tip (for takeout) and $6 fee of some sort. On their website. I backed out of the fees, paid when I got there and gave a reasonable tip. The food took much longer than they had said it would. After waiting, as I was leaving with food, they told me they had switched part of my order because it was an up charge, even though it didn't show it on my receipt ( from their website). Great resturaunts, the ones that truly stand out are run by people that have great stories to tell and personalities that are welcoming.. I felt like I was in the family dining room here. The owner took care of my bill and we talked about our kids.. perfect! The food was awesome! I'm used to amazing Indian restaurants in London and this one was right up there. Garlic Naan!! Order it!! The Papadums were super crispy, not too salty which was key. Great. Accompanying sauces were spot on, the raita sauce was my fave. We ordered takeout here and it was very flavorful. The veggie samosas were delicious and traveled well. The paneer, the lentil makhani, and the chicken makhani all had a very nice flavor and were well packaged for travel. We also had garlic naan, cheese naan, coconut raisin naan, and plain naan. It was a lot of food and most people would probably get more than one meal from each dish. read more

Food was good but nothing special. They brought some bread and sauces to our plate before the meal. We asked to sit outside but we had to wait a while before we got menus. We ordered chicken tikka masala and spinach sag. The chicken only had a small amount of chicken it it, mostly the bowl was filled with sauce. Both were good but expensive for what they were. For 12$ for a veggie dish and 14$ for a chicken dish, we would have expected more meat in the dish. We also ordered garlic naan. While five dollars for an order, it at least came with four large pieces of naan each. Rice came with the meal without an additional cost. I have dined at Himalayas a number of times over the years but have not had the chance to dine-in at their new location. I have however ordered takeout many times, especially this year. Often with takeout Indian food I find they don't provide a lot of the protein in their dishes and you end up mainly with sauce (ex. lamb, beef, chicken). That is not the case with Himalayas, as they provide enough protein to last you several meals. My husband and I typically order three dishes for takeout lunch which lasts for 2-3 lunches as leftovers. Our typical order is: * Garlic Naan * Chicken Tikka Masala (medium spice) * Saag Panir (medium) * Vegetable Korma (medium) I really enjoy all these dishes and would recommend them all. The delivery seems to be faster than the app estimates which makes me believe they are quick to prepare the food. I highly recommend trying Himalayas for either dine in or takeout! read more

My whole family loves this place (both before Covid for dining out and now for delivery). I'm picky about Indian food as I've spent a lot of time in London, and Himalayas checks all the boxes for me. They have a large menu of options and one day maybe I'll try them all. They are great about respecting your comfort level with spice. I'm a mild-medium person but my spouse loves everything Indian hot-- with a side of bullet naan! I Favorite items: Veg samosas (crispy pastry, yummy dipping sauces), chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, baingan bharta (roasted and mashed eggplant with tomato and peas), lamb biryani. The food is beyond excellent. Seriously, I haven't had Indian this good in -years.- The standard tikka was great, but the lamb saag ghost and the chicken dhansak were utterly amazing. Generous sizes meant we had to take leftovers or eat until we exploded. Garlic Naan was so. Darned. GOOD, I could've just had that and been happy. My favorite neighborhood spot! Typically order pick-up at least once every two weeks. The staff always very considerately brings my food out to me with a smile, since I typically walk my dog to pick it up. Food is hot, flavorful, and overall delicious. The few times I have eaten at the restaurant, the waitstaff has been friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is lovely, especially the patio area. Highly recommend! read more

Well. I've loved on this place and brought friend after friend here and raved about it. Though the food was still delish, the service last week was horrific. Terrible. They forgot to place our order. We waited over an hour for our food as other diners came and left. When we asked what was going on, we were told that we had never finished ordering--which was absolutely and unequivocally untrue. The food is excellent, and the owner, and his team, could not be nicer. We have eaten at many Indian restaurants in Atlanta, and Himalayas has always been our favorite. If you are in the Brookhaven / Chamblee area, you should make Himalayas a regular stop when dining out. It might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but you will be happy you gave it a shot. read more

Delicious Indian food for an extremely reasonable price! I came for lunch and got the shrimp curry with jasmine rice, naan, with raita, rice pudding, and a soft drink for $11! Everything wad super flavorful and the staff was really nice. I ordered my food medium spicy and it came out more mild which was a bit disappointing but I will get spicy next time. This is my go to restaurant to order on UberEats! Their food is excellent and everything we have had has always been fresh, flavorful, hot and very very yummy. Typically we order the following for two people - we probably order more than necessary but the leftovers prove very useful and keep for quite awhile - Chicken Balti, Chicken Tikka Masala, Dal Makhni and an order of Naan. This was the first time we ordered the Chicken Balti and it was a very pleasant surprise, we will be ordering again! The Dal Makhni is my absolute favorite and this is the best version I have had in Atlanta thus far. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala in a HOT spice and it was too spicy for me but my boyfriend loved it. Long-time Indian restaurant over 30 years in Georgia, recently moved to their current location. Himalayas has a decently nice outdoor patio for Indian restaurant standards, whereas the inside is on the simpler side with limited seating but huge garage doors that open into their patio. The menu is standard, with a few unique items like spinach naan. Service seemed unstructured, but they didn't mess anything up so I suppose it works. Bathroom is bare but was clean. There are plenty of Indian food options in this city, and among them this one is more on the average side. read more

My husband and I have wanted to try Himalayas for awhile since we moved to the Chamblee neighborhood. Tonight, we ordered delivery through Uber eats from Himalayas. We ordered Aloo gobi, chicken 65, gobi Manchurian and chicken vindaloo. Besides the chicken vindaloo, all other dishes were not flavorful the way Indian food should be. The garlic naan was also very dry We were really disappointed. We likely will not be eating here again, and would not recommend if you're interested in eating truly flavorful Indian food. Go to Viceroy or Bawarchi Biryani instead. read more

(Also published on my food blog in a much longer version) It's been nearly 20 years since I've eaten at this venerable institution - as I recall from long ago, I thought the food was "OK" and have since dismissed it from my mind - funny, as I'm frequently in the area and it's not a bad drive from my office near Perimeter Mall. From the parking lot, Himalayas doesn't look like much - there's also a sister store "Himalayas Grocery" to the left. The restaurant was once in a bustling shopping center that has since seen a decline - I've heard that it's due for a sprucing up and will be the location of a new anchor store. Right now, besides Himalayas there's a Chik-fil-a, an IHOP and a Duncan Donuts/Baskin-Robbins facing Peachtree Industrial, so it's a bit of a fast-food alley. We were enticed to once again visit due to a Groupon - two buffets including a samosa and mango lassi, for the price of one. It seemed like a good deal and I'm glad it once again brought us to this good Indian restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is more high-end than you would expect from such an innocuous storefront - tables line the walls and middle, covered with real cloth table covers and cloth napkins. The service here is quite good, although at first brush you may be taken aback by the droll attitude of the servers - they're actually quite funny in a cynical way and know they're way around food. Himalayas focuses more on the cuisine of Northern India (some call it Delhi style) featuring many tandoori-cooked items and kabobs. We arrived around 11:30 and were seated immediately, heading for the buffet. The buffet is towards the back of the restaurant and consists of two lines - a non-veg line on the left and a vegetarian line on the right. I liked that they kept these distinctly separate as some of my vegan friends get pretty weird about the food "accidentally touching" when it's all in the same place. Towards the back is a cold line with many chutney and pickle options - also some great looking fresh fruit, salad and desserts. The first two hotel-pans you see on the meat-line were of a nice long-grain basmati rice and something you rarely see - dosas! The dosa is a thin crepe (traditionally they're bigger than these and in India served on a banana leaf but I think this is a much more manageable style for individual servings on a buffet) - these are time consuming to make and I was surprised to see them on a buffet. These are Madras style served with a delicious mint chutney. Next were two chicken dishes, first something called "Chicken 65" which appeared to be white meat chicken marinated in tandoori marinade (spiced curd) heated and tossed with jalepeno peppers - loved this stuff. Next door were traditional tandoori chicken wings that were very good - first time I've seen a whole pan of chicken wings done this way and I must say it's a winner. Next we get into the ubiquitous chicken tikka masala - most of my friends call this "butter chicken" and after eating three different variations of "butter chicken" while in India, I guess that's as good as any other name. This is a rich, tomato-y curry dish that even people that don't like Indian usually enjoy. This version was a bit milder than I like but still delicious and creamy. Next to it was something I haven't had before, sag chicken - pieces of chicken cooked with spinach, very tasty. The final pan held the goat curry which was appropriately spicy and tender. Across the aisle, the vegetarian options started with curried vegetables that had a nice combination of green beans, peas, potato, carrot, zucchini squash and eggplant. It had much more variety than what you usually see at your typical buffet and a decent amount of spice. To the right a very nice sag paneer with fresh sliced tomatoes - this was one of my favorites on the line - being saucy enough that it didn't get that "hammered" over-cooked flavor. There was then a tofu masala that was also very tasty next to curried eggplant that was delicious and finally a very nice pan of spiced broccoli and very fresh pakora (this latter also had eggplant in it - something I don't usually see). I filled up a plate and headed back to the table - all was delicious and I especially liked the dosa. I went back for about half a second plate, picking up some items I hadn't on the first pass, then hit the cold line for some dessert. I especially liked the kheer - at first I was a bit suspicious as it had more of a yellowish tint than I've seen and this usually means it's had some spice like cinnamon added to it (hate that), but this kheer was right on. I asked one of the servers and he indicated that the color was from the slow cooking of the milk and the almonds/pistachios added - the kheer was awesome!
