    I hired Hines Pool and Spa in Austin, to repair a pool plumbing leak inside the cement wall in my pool. They sent Esteban, who did an excellent professional job. The pools was built into a slight hill with 3' limestone wall on the downhill side. He had to remove several limestone blocks and jackhammer and chip into center of 10" concrete pool wall ultimately having to expose 4' of 1 1/2" PVC pipe with a leak. This took 10 hours. He took no shortcuts, and even removed his first PVC repair attempt, to avoid leaving PVC in tension that required bending slightly to fit. He explained even tbough he could make it connect it would leave the PVC joint in tension which could lead to a future failure at this spot. He explained that is what lead to a failure in the 90 degree fitting that caused the leak 20 years after original pool installation. Excellent work , which showed he was very experience and knowledgeable. All was done within the originally quoted price.

    My pool was all ready for coping and a complete renovation!  Lots of damage from ice storm necessitated removal of coping. MATT couldn't be!

    I'm sure that there are some people who work here that are excellent...I encountered a couple on the initial intake of the job, sharing information and giving an initial bid on a total remodel. (Sans coping as my coping was damaged by the ice storm and was going to be already demo'd and ready for install of new coping already fabricated and delivered on site!) But my HORRIBLE experience was with Matt, who is one of their salesmen. who was very angry, disrespectful, and ill tempered -not just to me (when I requested to have the price on coping installation included in the quote and contract as an option), but also with his wife Dallis who had met with me initially on site-(also as a Hines sales rep) and she was working on following up! He then called and was extremely rude in general in spite of my patience and seemingly incapable of following up himself as he'd promised "later that day." When he didn't follow up as promised, I called the next day to inquire if I could we could do a Docusign and they could take payment for 50% down per the contract sent to me for signing, as my salesperson Dallis -his wife -had suggested we could do: "without the coping price and add that later" because my printer wasn't working. Then he called me back actually YELLING AT ME that "he was declining to take the job because I was too impatient!" Ha! NVM that I was responding in accordance to the information that 'd been given by the company! (Not just my sales rep who was perfectly capable of handling the sale on her own, but MATT who apparently took it over from her, (for no reason), disrespected her abilities, and then lied to me about his own lack of responsibility, and blew up blaming me for no reason! Dallis had requested that I call back or text to remind if I didn't hear back!!!! Matt is a bully and a disrespectful jerk! i feel sorry for his wife and his 3 young daughters, who when I mentioned them to him, he acted like he didn't care for his family at all! Responding with "I guess" in a very negative way when I said his wife "was lovely!" it was strange and unsettling. I certainly hope that the owners of Hines are made aware of his inappropriate behavior because if Matt is any example of how Hines ultimately does business, they don't live up to their promises in terms of timelines and quality of communication with customers who are just trying to follow up on what they've been told to do or what they've been told Hines would be responsible for doing on the timeline THEY indicated! I'm sorry I can't recommend Hines based on Matt who doesn't seem to know how to treat customers OR his own wife without resorting to bullying and refusing to take responsibility for his own words! I got the distinct impression that Dallis was afraid of him! I didn't let him bully me and expected follow up from him as promised! Clearly that doesn't work for him. Maybe Hines just needs to fire Matt and hire Dallis! (or at least not make her subject to his disrespect and abusive behavior). I hope this helps! Hines used to be a better company!

The weekly pool service is generally fine, but if anything goes even remotely wrong (which it will because they're scaling rapidly and training new folks), Patriot is nowhere to be found. In the time we've been using them, they've incorrectly cleaned our filter twice, stained our white pool tiles, and caused our skimmer to operate incorrectly. It has been pulling teeth to get them to return to fix it - many calls over many weeks, and at present, our skimmer and pool tile are still not resolved. In the case of the skimmer, our pool has an in-ground cleaning system and generally stays crystal clear throughout the spring months. Twice now, Patriot has come to clean the filter, and the skimmer has stopped operating immediately after. The first time, a tech returned a week or so later and told us their filter crew had forgotten to switch something to do with the skimmer back on (it was immediately fixed once he corrected it). This time, it stopped operating correctly immediately after the filter-cleaning again (same timing, same issue) and Patriot (after failing to return our calls, then sending people who weren't trained to investigate or resolve the issue three separate times) is telling us there's nothing wrong. This has been going on for well over a month at this point, and apparently we're going to need to pay someone else to come out and fix it. In the case of the pool tile (see pics below) Patriot acknowledged fault for the issue, and tried a number of tactics to resolve it, none of which worked. So it seems we're stuck with the stains. There are lots of pool companies in Austin. I'd recommend you go with a company that stands behind their work and fixes their mistakes.

Their people are unreliable and inexperienced, they have caused several thousands of dollars or damage to our pool through their negligence and our pool has been mostly unusable this summer because of the issues caused by their team. For context the pool was a couple of years old when we hired them and In perfect condition and working order. We have been waiting on a resolution from them on fixing the damage for several months now.

    Freedom Pools - Pool Cleaning Review (1/5)…read more I had my pool fully renovated in April 2024, investing over $23,000 in repairs. Following the renovation, I continued using the new brand "Freedom Pools," as Sandy was a part owner involved in my renovation project. I trusted the continuity would ensure quality -- I was wrong. Over the past two years, I've had to spend an additional $2,400+ in repairs from outside pool service representatives just to correct issues that Freedom Pools should have handled. There were stretches where my pool received no service for weeks at a time, leaving me to deal with problems that only compounded. I had surfaced the issues showing employees not coming for weeks at at time, while I still paid for service. To Sandy's credit, when I raised concerns and he finally responded, he acted to get service restored. I'll admit, I wrongfully held on, hoping he would make things right long-term. I continued making the wrong decision by maintaining my loyalty to Sandy and his team, giving them chance after chance. But here's the core problem: his team shows up for 8-10 minutes per visit - verified by cameras. That is simply not enough time to properly service and maintain a large and deep pool, especially one with a $23,000 renovation investment behind it. The work being done in those brief visits is surface-level at best. Getting leaves out and adding chemicals. Occasionally back-washing but not vacuuming or determining root cause issues. Today was the final straw after the fourth need to externally source and pay an external pool provider -- yet another event requiring an ad hoc service call, and yet another exorbitant charge ($800) from a repair service to fix what should have been caught and handled during routine maintenance. Looking back, I could have paid the right person a higher rate from the start and avoided all of this -- the headaches, the repeat repairs, and the thousands of dollars wasted trying to save a few bucks. Lesson learned. Bottom line: If you have a pool, don't cut corners on maintenance. Freedom Pools may seem affordable, but the lack of thorough service will cost you far more in the long run.

What went wrong for us was a series of increasingly expensive repairs. First the lights. Then the pump. But the pump wasn't properly connected with our old control system. So the heater fried and needed a new manifold. Thousands of dollars ($9,548 over the last 12 months). At least 1,200 was seemingly caused by poor integration between our new pump, heater, and analog control system. The nail in the coffin was that we reached out over the weekend... Sunday. Yeah I know it was a long weekend. So we waited patiently. It's midday Wednesday. Got no response. Zero. From the Poolie website: "Upon receipt of a response from a Poolie representative concerning your reported issue, you are obligated to reply within twenty-four (24) hours. This prompt communication is intended to facilitate resolution efforts and avoid delays." If only they made the same commitment to the customer. Cancelled our service today. I hope they level up. Because, as it stands right now, I can't recommend anything but cleaning services from them -- we love you Ja'von!

Out of the 5 companies I submitted a request to, they were the 2nd ones I reached out to but the last ones to reach out back to me (excluding the auto-generated "thank you" text which the other pool companies sent as well). Lisa from the office called me Wednesday at 5:38 PM and said she could have a tech come out the next day to give me a quote. Jose came out Thursday around noon. He was super nice and professional. He said he would get me 3 different quotes for the 3 type of packages they offer by the end of the day or the next day (Friday) in the morning at the latest. By Friday at 4:25 PM, I had yet to receive anything so I called and spoke to Lisa and she said they'll send it over shortly. They sent 2 quotes (not 3) at 4:40 PM. Monday morning at 10 AM, I called to discuss the quotes for further clarification, especially since the links weren't working. Lisa said she's going to call Jose and call me right back. She never did. Tuesday morning at 8:28 AM, almost a week after I had initially reached out, I called saying they never called me back and asked to speak to a manager. She put me on the phone with Jose and he was a totally different person than the guy that came out to the house. He kept interrupting me and talking over me. He was rude saying I didn't know anything about pools (that might be true but this is not my first house with a pool and that's not something you'd say to a prospective client), and making excuses for their lack of responsiveness. If they're this bad when they're trying to earn my business, I can't imagine how bad they are once they do earn it. Reading some of their other reviews, I should've just never reached out to begin with. TLDR: Unresponsive, unprofessional/rude, overpromise/underdeliver. Ended up going with a different pool company that responded right away and was able to get me on the schedule immediately.
