I'm a bit surprised by all the poor reviews, but I did notice they are all from several years ago. I got the Dinner for 5 and that fed 6 adults and 2 kids with minimal leftovers. The Dinner for 5 was $87.95 and it consisted of 10 egg rolls, Chicken Fried Rice, Garlic Spareribs, Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls, General Tao's Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Cantonese Chow Mein and 5 fortune cookies. We got a bonus large portion of Chicken Fried Rice for free since we spent over $80. I phoned my order in and asked for it to be ready in an hour. When I arrived at the specified time, it was ready. The drive back to my parents' house was about 10 minutes and it was still piping hot. I was impressed with the egg rolls. It was mostly ground meat in the filling, and not mostly vegetables like at other places. They were crunchy and tasty. The plum sauce was much runnier than I'm used to, but was still good. The Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls were great too. Crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Lots of lean chicken breast meat inside. Good meat to batter ratio. The red sauce was also a bit on the runny side, but it was still ok. The Garlic Spareribs were meaty and not drenched in sauce. I like them on the drier side so I liked these. The General Tao's Chicken was a bit sweeter than my preference, and had no spicy kick, to my chagrin. It was also a bit soggy. However, it wasn't bad and I still enjoyed it. I liked that it didn't have fatty or gristly pieces. It's just battered meat, no vegetables. The Beef with Broccoli was more broccoli than beef, but that's how it often is with most restaurants. The beef was tender and the broccoli was soft but not mushy. It also had onions and carrots. The flavour was just right and not too salty. The Chicken Fried Rice had very little chicken, but I liked that it wasn't greasy. The rice was soft and fluffy and not too salty. It did not have any vegetables in it other than green onions. It was a bit on the boring side, but not greasy/oily wins out in my books. The Cantonese Chow Mein had chicken, BBQ pork, shrimp, mushrooms, broccoli, celery, carrots and onions on top of soft noodles. It was my favourite dish, but had way too much onions in it, lol. I liked that I didn't feel super thirsty after eating the food. And usually after gorging on Chinese food, I'm usually a few pounds heavier the next day, lol, but that didn't happen with the food here. Relatively speaking, I feel like they use less fat and less salt here than at other places. I am a fan. Service was friendly and efficient. It's strictly a takeout joint, no dine in. It's part of a strip mall so lots of free parking in strip mall parking lot.

It's about a hundred bucks and all the dishes are great. The grandkids love the chicken balls and noodles and the adults love the General Tao's Chicken. I like it because it's not spicy, haha. The rice doesn't have too much soy sauce in it and it's not too greasy like some places. They give you 2 egg rolls per person which is more generous than other restaurants. The egg rolls are also full of meat, not just bean sprouts. My husband always craves the Chinese food from here (and Famous Wok in Place d'Orleans). We've had Chinese food from lots of places in Orleans and we like this place the best.

Parking is a bit tight and limited since it's shared with the other businesses, so be patient because this place is definitely worth the wait. Even walking by, you can smell the aromas coming out of this gem and they can make anyone drool! I ordered the Pad Thai with Shrimp ($16.95) at a medium spiciness level. It was really tasty but a little too hot for my liking. It was my first time trying medium instead of mild though with this dish, so now I know to go with mild like I usually do. I also got an order of Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp and Peanut Sauce ($9.95). The order comes with two rolls. They were also delicious and I absolutely love their peanut sauce. Chili Thai is on the pricier side for Thai take out, but to me it's worth it because you can tell that everything is high quality and the dishes are of good size. After a bit of craving from driving by Federicks's while in the GTA, I decided to give this place a try one night. I drove by and walked in to place an order at the counter. They mentioned it should be 15 minutes. The place was about half full and much more open and spacious if it's the place I'm thinking that it took over. About 15 minutes later I walked in and sat on the chairs. The person who took my order acknowledged me. After some significant time after I came in, I got my order and headed home as we wanted some take out. When I got home I checked on the order and it looked pretty decent. I will say, the portion sizes are much smaller than I recall from my favorite places in the GTA, however that was before the massive shrinkflation that has happened the last few years. I tried the chili chicken and honestly it wasn't to bad! Much better than anything else I've had in town. The noodles, I think there was some confusion about this order but I have to say that it tasted pretty decent and I did like that they put a ton of sauce on the side for us. All in all, if you have a craving, give this place a shot. I'll probably come by to try some other things in the future.

Service was good, our server memorized the whole order without writing anything down which was impressive. It honestly felt like a one man show since he seemed to be cooking and serving too. It wasn't busy when we went so we didn't have to wait. We ordered a good amount of food and it came to around $150 plus tax and tip for five people, which is pretty reasonable. At the end of the day it just comes down to personal taste.

The three-item combos are $14.99 and you get rice or noodles in addition to 3 items of your choice. They had 2 different types of noodles (skinny chow mein noodles and thick Shanghai noodles) and only 1 type of rice (vegetables fried rice). We chose the skinny noodles for one of the combos and the rice for the other combo. The BBQ chicken looked really good, so we got an order of that for each combo, then we got pepper beef and their "Famous Chicken" which is essentially Lemon Chicken on one combo, and Fried Shrimps and Spicy Chicken on the other combo. Other choices were Chicken Balls, Crispy Beef, General Tao's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork and Stir-fried Vegetables. The Spicy Chicken was by far my favourite. The meat was not gristley despite being dark meat, it had some carrots and bell peppers in it and true to its name had a spicy kick. The BBQ Chicken was also very good. Not fatty nor gristley and pretty tasty. It reminded me of a slightly saucier Bourbon Chicken from Bourbon Street Grill. The Famous Chicken was battered dark meat chicken covered in a lemon sauce. I also liked this. I was surprised that the meat to batter ratio was good. It was not excessively battered. The pepper beef was tender and not tough nor chewy and came with carrots and green peppers. I did not try the shrimps because you only get 5 per serving and my dad loves these, so I left them all for him. They are also still shelled, so you have to peel them yourself, and I'm not a fan of this, lol. My dad said they were good, but too salty. The rice had peas and carrots in it. The grains of rice were all separated and not all stuck together like at some places. I liked that it wasn't too salty. The noodles had white onions, green onions and bean sprouts in them. They were ok. Also not too salty. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall, very good for food court Chinese food. Much better than Manchu Wok, in my opinion.

The General Tao chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. The sauce was a bit sweet and a tad tangy. The potato silk was al dente julienned potatoes. It was good in the wrap. The iceberg lettuce was fresh and crisp. The raw onions gave the wrap some bite, but I'll likely ask them to omit those as well next time. My only complaint is that the wrap was incredibly messy to eat. It was very saucy and fell apart easily. This may be why they gave me a pair of disposable gloves with my order, haha. Oh and the pair of disposable gloves came in a package that looks like a condom package, lolz. I didn't use the gloves, but I think I should have. Service was courteous and efficient. They also sell Bento box meals and traditional Chinese stews. However, I think their wraps are what make them unique. I will definitely be back to try more wraps. They have this special where if you spend $30 or more you get some spring rolls or egg rolls for free (about a month ago you only had to spend $20 for the freebie, but as of June 2023, it's now $30). The Long Version: Noodlebox is a Canadian company that started in Victoria, BC in 2001 as a food cart. This location in Vanier was the first one in Ottawa. At the time of the writing of this review there is another location in Stittsville, but those are the only 2 in Ottawa. They make your food to order and there are a lot of customizations, like you can choose the noodles, the amount of spice, and you can add or remove items. I got the Crispy Shanghai Chicken Box. In the store it sells for $15.95 but UberEats was having a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal so it was $18.95 for 2. I got my order through UberEats. I chose Hokkien noodles, which are thick noodles popular in Malaysian dishes. I also requested no bean sprouts, no canola oil, and no sesame seeds and my order came as requested. I feel the dish was still a bit greasy/oily, but I guess less so than it would have been (?). The flavour was pretty good. And despite choosing the least spicy option available on the app (mild/medium) it was pretty spicy, lol. Not sure if they made a mistake, but i feel it was a true medium, not mild at all. I got this to share with my parents and my mom could only eat a tiny bit due to the spice. My dad loved it though. So he and I ate most of it. Lol. The noodles were a nice springy and chewy texture. The vegetables included were carrots, cabbage a tiny bit of broccoli. There were also green onions and crushed peanuts. The chicken tasted like cut up chicken nuggets. There was more breading than meat and it was processed meat, not like real chicken breast. This is the only thing I didn't like. I will need to try a different stir-fry and get their grilled chicken and see how that is. Service was courteous and efficient. My food was ready in less than 10 minutes. There was only one staff member there. He was mopping the floors when I arrived. He stopped mopping the floors, washed his hands and then helped me. I liked this. Bonus points for good hand hygiene. There are 2 tables for 2 to dine in. It's mostly a takeout joint. Ambiance is fast food restaurant. For the price that I paid and the fact that it's fast food made to order with the option for lots of customizations, I think it was not bad. The last time I ate at Zaky's was many years ago when it was called Zaki's with an "i" and had 3 locations throughout the city. It was fantastic, but then all the locations closed. Then one location reopened and was renamed Zaky's with a "y." I believe that there was a change in ownership (the other 2 locations became other businesses). I'm happy to say that the food is still as good as I remember. The only thing is prices have gone up, and it's not just inflation. I got the Family Feast ($45.49) and the 15 piece Broasted Chicken Family Meal ($40.99) because no one is going to leave hungry on my watch! The Family Feast consisted of 2 ground beef shami, 2 ground chicken shami, 1 beef tikka kebab, 1 chicken breast kebab, naan, rice and salad. The 15 piece Family Meal consisted of 15 pieces of broasted chicken, fries, naan, dipping sauces and pop. We were 6 adults and 2 kids. There were leftovers, lol. The meats in the Family Feast were very flavourful and well marinaded. They were tender and juicy and not dry at all. My mom felt that the beef tikka was a little tough, but I thought it was fine. Maybe it was just the piece she had. The rice was long grain basmati and very fragrant (it had lots of warm spices in it, tasted like nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.). I liked that the rice was not oily. The salad had cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and romaine lettuce with spices on top. Dressing was on the side, which I appreciated so the salad didn't get soggy. I didn't have any of the naan, but everyone else liked it. The biggest hit though was the broasted chicken (chicken fried in a pressure cooker). So crispy, yet not greasy or oily. My dad said "this is better than Popeye's and KFC" and then asked "is there a location near my house?" Lol. The fries were seasoned but not battered and the kids loved them. They were a little soggy by the time I got home with them, but I think that is unavoidable. I'll need to eat in sometime to see how their fries are fresh. Their BBQ and Sweet and Sour dipping sauces are store-bought, but their garlic sauce and yogurt dressing are made in house. Cilantro-hating husband tasted cilantro in the dressing, so be warned if you also dislike cilantro. The person who took my order on the phone and who served me in the store (I'm pretty sure it was the same person) was quick and efficient. They said the food would take 20-25 minutes. I said I would be there in 30 minutes, and when I arrived it was already packed and ready to go. The place looked clean. It's in the same complex as the big Walmart, Bai Du, Mucho Burrito, and Sally Beauty Supply. Lots of free parking. If you like fried chicken, give their broasted chicken a try!
