had take out so can't comment on service or ambiance the food was quite good but I'm not sure if it was that outstanding. I wish the bean curd was a lot spicier, though it still tasted good. and while the meat dishes were good I wish the tastes were stronger. The Cantonese chow mein was quite good, the variety of proteins was appreciated and the pork in this dish was really tasty. the sauce on the sweet and sour pork was also quite nice. Hing Lung has been around for over 30 years, and it hasn't changed a bit. When I first moved to Ottawa in 1990, Hing Lung was just up the street from where we lived. While we didn't eat here often (dining out was a luxury), when we ordered take-out, this was the place we ordered from. On a recent trip home, my family and I decided to take a trip down memory lane and order some Hing Lung! Between the 9 of us we managed to order just about everything! When I say the food here hasn't changed a bit, I'm not kidding. As a child I was a chicken balls and fried rice kinda gal, so I went with one of their combo plates. The generous portions were of great value, enough to share if you have a smaller appetite, or great for leftovers. This is a true Chinese Take-Out joint so no opportunity to dine in. Almost missed it while walking around the Market but tried it and loved it. Decent variety of take out food and very reasonable prices. So good it's now in my rotation of Ottawa restaurants to visit when I'm in town. This hidden gem is just outside the Market off Rideau, maybe 15 minutes walking from the o train. First time at the take-out restaurant today and spoke with counter server about a meal which was not on the menu. The meal was: Beef, Mixed-Vegetables, and Black Been Sauce, along with a side of steamed rice. The server understood what I was asking for, and she was happy to have the cook create the dish for me. When I arrived back at the hotel I uncovered Beef, Mini-Corn cobs, Carrots, Broccoli, Onions, Sliced Mushrooms, and a sliced round vegetable (which I forget the name of), along with steamed rice. .. Anyway, the meal was tasty and this means I will try another dish from the restaurant in the future. .. Saying Thank You for that meal. read more

I used to live just a half-block from this little Chinese takeout place. Their Cantonese sweet and sour chicken is quite tasty. Unlike many Chinese takeout places, you actually get fresh veggies (snow peas, carrots, water chestnuts, and so forth) along with delicious bites of chicken topped with a sauce that actually has a bit of heat to balance the sweetness. I still stop by whenever I'm in Ottawa, and I'm happy to see they're still around and still serving yummy takeout. The nicest part? Food tasted good and the delivery was fast(35mins). It's also perfect for a student budget. The portions are small, they come in a 16oz container. Unless you order off the combo menu(my fav is combo H) you won't be full. read more

I don't mind Hing Lung, but the good qualities about this little Chinese shop are based heavily off of convenience, not so much the quality of the food. I like Hing Lung because it is usually open decently late, and its location, just on the outside of the Byward Market on Dalhousie Street is pretty accessible in the downtown area. They also deliver, and the wait time is never too long. I usually just order for pick-up, and the staff is always so nice and friendly. They have a lot of combination plates that are reasonably priced (under $10) which are usually more than enough food for one person. They also have combinations for family's of 2,3,4 etc. They also have a variety of standard (Canadian) Chinese dishes dishes that are available to order, such as chow mein, fried rice and lo mein. Not very much to say with regards to the food, as it is what you would expect of a little, family run, Chinese delivery restaurant. read more

Order was ice cold a few weeks ago. We ordered again this evening and it was ice cold again AND mushy, small portion, wet.. disgusting honestly. Called to let them know that it was cold, employee on phone rudely and abruptly said "sorry bout that." (offering no solution.) I proceeded to let her know that this was not okay and asked what could be done "sorry bout that, no manager here until Wednesday." I then told her, "listen we aren't trying to get anything for free, but would like our food delivered hot" and she hung up the phone. This is horrible customer service. Before these last 2 orders, we had ordered from Hing Lung many times and so did many of our friends and family. We will not be ordering from them again and will be letting others know that the quality of food, delivery and their customer service is not what it once was. read more

I'm not a HUGE fan of Hing-Lung, but find myself going back as they are quick and reliable. They have small portions, but the food is quite tasty. Be sure to try the Egg-rolls! read more

Hing lung has been the go to Chinese take out for my partner and I for the last few months. The food is decent and will quench a greasy Chinese food hankering, however what prompted me to write this review is that last night we ordered a side of sweet and source sauce to our unpleasant surprise it turned out to be a mixture of ketchup and plum sauce with a possible hint of bbq sauce. The food taste great, it is always served hot and it is reasonably priced. I usually do not order delivery because I live relatively close but their walk-in service is exceptional and often fairly quick (5-10 mins). The staff is great, they are always friendly and serve you with a big smile. I would definitely recommend this place, I have had a great experience every single time. read more

Best chicken balls ever. More chicken than batter which is not the norm. The wonton soup was flavourful and different with the Napa cabbage vs mushrooms which is a nice change. Ordered the spicy vegetables in garlic which had a good assortment of veg cooked just right.Their 'mild' spicy is pretty hot and beyond mild so beware. And the chicken fried rice had a good subtle smokey flavour and tasted fresh. A pleasant surprise that everything ordered was so great! read more

We've been ordering from here for a while because it was convenient. However, tonight we decided to try the general tao chicken. For $10, you get SIX bite-size pieces of chicken and 10 pieces of cabbage--which is absolutely ridiculous. When we called asking why the portion was so unreasonably tiny, they said this is how their business runs and promptly hung up on us. We'd recommend ordering from Yang Sheng or some other place -- they don't charge you for delivery (here they charge you $3), the food comes faster, and their business ethic is far superior. read more
