3 adults / 2 kids stopped in 12:30 for lunch. Got a table quickly - seat your self. Service was quick & friendly. 4 cheeseburgers/ 2pc chicken/fries/onion rings. Wish we would have known we could have got lettuce and tomato on the burger. We were told just onion & pickle. Decent price for the quality & quantity of food. 3 milk shakes to go. Hinkle's is a dandy little diner/cafe we found recently in Madison Indiana. It's been in business since 1933 and they sell all of the diner favourites such as burgers, grilled cheese, tenderloins, and a lot more. I kept it basic as I got a couple of their double cheeseburgers, cottage cheese, and breadsticks served with nacho cheese. The burgers are White Castle size but really high quality and delicious. It even comes with the grilled onions. The cottage cheese was fine and I really liked the breadstick with nacho cheese combination as it was unique and different. The restaurant was really busy but everything was streamlined and we didn't have to wait long. Also unique is that the restaurant is kind of split into 2 halves with half being focused on carryout although there is some bar seating over there and the other half regular tables. Everything was clean and in good shape despite the age of the restaurant which I give them credit for and as I said the service was excellent. You have to go to this place if you're in town. They have an assortment of the best milkshakes around and AMAZING hamburgers. We absolutely loved the the service as well. We were a large group on a bachelor party so we're pretty rowdy but they were very nice to us and fun. Made a trip to Madison IN yesterday just to get a burger at Hinkle's. I'd had one years ago and wondered if they really were as good as I remembered. Service is immediate, and the little one counter diner feels familiar with all the cooking done in sight. Prices are good ($2.25 I think for the slider style burger.). I almost gave four stars instead of five due to my memory. It was good, just not as my hankering remembered. No fault of theirs. I'd like to try their breakfast menu sometime - looked good. Basic but if they do it as well as I think they would - yum! I had a cheeseburger and water. My companion had a burger, fries and a Coke. I don't know where this magic place came from, but their slider sized burgers are amazing! They offer home fries as a tasty side dish and it's a great alternative to fries. There is cute counter style seating in one side of the restaurant and the other side has regular table seating. There are two separate entrances and you can't move between the two sides from inside. The restroom is on the side with dining tables and if you're seated at the counter, you have to go outside and in through the other door. You can't hop the counter. We asked. Service was great. The visible kitchen was clean and fun to watch. Loved everything about this place. read more

The burgers were a little bigger than sliders, but didn't taste like them. By that I mean they were much better! We will likely return in the future. This is the cutest little diner! A real hole in the wall, if you will. There's bar seating for about ten. We placed an order for pickup because we were preparing for an event down the block. Service was good, it was lunch time, and a little crowded, but the wait to pickup out order wasn't terribly long. We weren't the only ones there to pickup an order, and they're was only one seat at the bar that was open. The food itself was very good, everyone in our party that ordered was happy with their choices; some people had burgers, one had the grilled cheese - they have a fairly diverse menu. I had the Chicken tenders and curly fries. The fries were well seasoned, the tenders were perfectly cooked and had great flavor. Love the river town vibe and local tradition here. Wait staff were very friendly and relatively fast. The slider burgers are large white castle-ish in every way but with more pungent beefy smell and overpowering taste. I added some mustard to the second slider and it was made instantly more palatable. We had our "When in Rome" moment and can say we've been here. The fries were the best food item, hot-n-crispy. However, we enjoyed sitting at the counter, watching everything happening at the grill. We had cheeseburgers, a grilled cheese, chili, curly fries, and tater tots. Everything was great. My least favorite was the chili. It was fine, but a bit bland. I probably should have asked for hot sauce. The burgers were absolutely perfect - the right ratio of meat to bun, just enough grilled onions, and enough pickles to get one in every bite. Do yourself a favor and get a shake, too. I can't handle too much sweet stuff and I've literally never finished a full shake before until this one. I ordered the Almond Joy and it was the best shake I've ever had. The shake options are endless so I'll have to take it upon myself to come back and try them all so I can adequately report back to Yelp. Oh darn! Lol! Visited Hinkle's for their famous hamburgers, which are slightly larger than a slider. Service was awesome, and we each got a cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato, and a side of potato salad. But for such a small burger they pack a big punch in the flavor department. I highly suggest ordering them as they come with onions and pickles, and also getting two if you're really hungry. Curly fries were just okay in my opinion. There's an extensive shake menu, all syrup based. Was really hoping for a real strawberry shake. Breakfast menu is your basic eggs and meat kinda deal. The eggs come as ordered, perfectly cooked. Everything was good, the bacon, the eggs, hash browns and toast. Price = super cheap There's VERY limited seating! Hinkle burger is the best of the best. They are open 24/7 except on Sundays they are closed. They make these burgers that are just like white castle but better tasting and they don't destroy your gut. They also offer soups, salads, sandwiches, shakes, fries and hashbrowns. Their burgers and hash browns go straight on the griddle top. Their burgers are a little over a buck a piece but totally worth. Everytime were in town my husband makes us stop and order a dozen or so to bring back to the house because even cold these guys are good little burgers to snack on. I've been here before in the past but I decided to finally review it. As usual, this place hit the spot. People who are new to Hinkle's should know that this is not your typical burger place. The burgers are served slider style (just like White Castle or kyrstal) with a thin patty, onions, and pickles. The burgers are fleshly made and always taste great. On this occasion, I went for lunch and got only single burgers (usually I will get double cheese sliders) and a side a fries. I recommend getting a couple double cheese burgers instead of the singles if you are a bit more hungry. For a lunch portion, the singles were enough for me. This place never disappoints and it's always consistent. Additionally, the service is always exceptional and efficient. On this particular trip, it was Labor Day weekend, so it was pretty crowded. Regardless of that (and even having to wait a little) it probably took no longer than 30 ish minutes to be in and out. This place is a staple of the madison community. If you have not been, make sure to try it out this unique dining experience. I look forward to coming back soon! read more
