This is THE cutest place to stay!! It feels like taking a step back in time. The staff were so nice and we felt safe. The place was clean and just the cutest! This is a place we would come back to!

Stayed here, November 8th for one night with my sister and we both found It was clean, spacious, comfortable beds, fun retro rooms with what one needs, basic amenities. Plus front desk was helpful when making a reservation on the phone as well as check-in. Local to all. Also a great history to it. Thanks front desk.

I've been staying at the Curly Redwood lodge for about 10 years. Every time I visit Crescent City, this is where I stay, and I tell all my friends about it. It has exactly what I look for in a place, lots of character, while being clean and comfortable. Therefore, it saddens me to have to share this. The last time we stayed here, it started out well enough. The person at the desk was kind and courteous. I really liked him. We settled in and had an enjoyable evening. At some point, my partner noticed that the sheets had come untucked from the mattress. She proceeded to tuck them in, and accidentally spilled her red wine. She tried to clean it up as best she could. The next morning, we left the room cleaning sign out and went about our day. When we got back that evening, there was a fan blowing air on the carpet to dry it. The carpet had been cleaned and the sheets and matress protector on the bed had been replaced. The bathroom had been shodilly cleaned and nothing replaced though. About an hour later, there was a knock on the door. My partner answered it and the same man who had checked me in the night before proceeded to harangue her for a solid 10 minutes about how horrible she was for spilling wine and ruining his day. She apologized multiple times and took full responsibility, but that did not assuage his anger. He just kept going on and on. He treated her like she had thrown some kind of raucous party, rather than someone who had made a simple mistake. My partner has been staying in hotels for over 30 years, and this was the first time she had spilled anything besides water. We were charged an extra $200 cleaning fee, which I understand. We have no problem paying for our mistakes. We do however, have a major problem being treated like we intentionally trashed a room when a cup of wine was innocently spilled. I spent the better part of a decade in the service industry. I never once was rude to a customer, no matter how rude they were to me. I simply cannot conceive of someone in the hospitality industry being rude over a simple mistake, much less delivering a 10 minute diatribe about it, to a customer. What I would have expected from someone who is a professional, would have been a a simple statement of what he had had to do, and that we would be charged for it. That statement should have been delivered with courtesy and an understanding that everyone makes mistakes.

My mom and I stayed in an accessible two bed room. The room was quiet and the beds were comfortable. The only downside is no breakfast offered but there plenty of choices in town. The lodge is centrally located to anywhere you would want to see in Crescent city.

I'm 5'7 and the shower was almost too short for me. The tub is only about 3 feet long or so.

If your looking for a five star hotel with all the amenities, this isn't it. I understand why it has 5 stars and it isn't for any of the reasons you may think. I'd like to give it 5 stars but it was lacking in some key areas. Pros: super fast check in and check out, very clean and well kept rooms, close to downtown and the beach. The whole hotel and furnishings were made out of 1 Redwood tree. Cons: no amenities in the room (fridge, microwave, etc) no hotel amenities (pool, etc) old school 90s tv, very short shower and super small tub, squeaky bed, the clock was set to the wrong time. Now don't get me wrong, I would stay here again. This is where you stay when you want to remember what it was like to live in simpler times.

Chose to stay here for the price. Should've paid a little more and stayed elsewhere nearby. The hotel was clean, but room layout was totally dysfunctional. No towel hooks or rods to hang damp towels after shower. Vessel sink is pretty, but consumes most of the vanity top. No blower, coffee pot (a tiny single cup thing), TV was way to the left of the beds, chairs ands table blocked access to one side of the bed. Beds were doubles not queens so husband and I slept separate the second night, a single, super tiny "night stand" table between the beds could barely accommodate a single CPAP machine (we both have one). The rooms are spacious, but are not laid out functionally. Mini fridge and microwave should be where the TV is, a regular auto-shut off coffee pot should be provided on that "desk area." TV should be mounted in the wall across from the beds. A regular bathroom vanity/sink would provide more counter space. A shower head with detachable head & hose would be more efficient than the unmovable shower head located almost 7' from the floor, which makes rinsing difficult at best! Would not stay here again. Pillows were also awful! The employees were great and helpful, but the hotel itself needs some help.

This room also had a VERY big nice TV - much larger TV than in the other rooms! This was our first time to Crescent City and of course we wondered if the fog horn would be a problem (especially given the "warning" on the hotel website). It wasn't an issue for us - but we didn't sleep with the door to the balcony open or anything. You can definitely hear it... but it's not super loud and/or overbearing... when I think "foghorn" I usually think about the super loud blaster that they use at 49er games or something, but this wasn't that at all - not even close! The TV was a little bit of a challenge to figure out, but we figured it out eventually. I can't say that I was crazy about the bathroom layout... with the sink part being in the main room, but the upside to that is there was a LOT of counter space, much more than would have been available otherwise. After a little reflection, I realized there really wasn't a better way to lay things out. I just had to get used to it... and now, I wouldn't hesitate to get the same room again.

Ryan at the front desk indicated that while he technically could modify our reservation, we'd have to go through Expedia since we booked with them - sure, not a problem. I talk to an Expedia agent who says yep, we should be able to modify the reservation. They call the Oceanview Inn, speak with Ryan, who says nope, no can do. When I went back to the lobby (still on the night of check-in) to ask Ryan what happened, he became confrontational. The staff here are unwilling to help their guests or make even minor modifications to reservations, even for services that have not and will not be rendered. Location: Convenient location close to the beach, highway, and Redwood National Park. Other than the national park there is very little to do in Crescent City. Not many good restaurant options. Room: Antiquated. Hasn't been updated in 25 years, uncomfortable bed. The upgraded room we reserved was quite large, however, the walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors all night. Also, the fog horn blows every 8 seconds. Walking to & from the room we noticed the hallways smell like strongly of urine.

Our room was clean when we arrived, and the breakfast area was spacious with a great view, which made the morning experience enjoyable. However, there were several downsides. The biggest issue was a leaking faucet in the room, which suggests that maintenance could be improved. The room itself was also quite small--just enough space to move around comfortably, with very limited extra room for luggage or other belongings. Overall, the hotel was adequate for a short stay, mainly because of the cleanliness and pleasant breakfast area, but the maintenance issues and cramped room size kept the experience from being more enjoyable.

No communication was made to us prior to arriving at the hotel about our room not being ready. No concessions were made at that time because our booking was done through "www.hotels.com". During our stay our room developed a significant water leak from a ceiling light/fan fixture. This happened very late at night; I called down to the front desk and after waiting for several minutes I received a call back. By this time the water leak from the ceiling had mostly stopped, however we used all our hotel towels mitigating the water leak. The staff offered an adjacent room for us to stay in. However, it was very late at night and we had sleeping children and being that the water leak seemed to have stopped on its own we opted to stay in our room.  When we came back to our room the next day, the water leak was still active.  The hotel had not sent anyone to fix the leak and they had not sent anyone from housekeeping to clean up the huge water mess.  I went and spoke with the front desk staff personally and asked for assistance, however we never received any for the remainder of our stay. We spent the majority of our time out of the room because of this issue. We then had to leave the property several hours earlier than our scheduled check out time due to the bathroom being unusable. It was unusable because of an active water leak and a standing water all over the floor. Again, I called down to the front desk early on the morning of our check out to ask for assistance and they didn't provide any. After telling them that morning what the issues were that we were having, the response from staff was "Ok". The onsite manager was never available, and I was never able to speak to them.  This was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had and I will not be staying a best western ever again.

Stayed here on a Tuesday night during the middle of a long road trip. Place was quiet and eerie. With your window open, you are only accompanied by the lapping of distant waves. That is genuinely it. All of the workers were nice, the mattresses were extremely comfy, and the views were beautiful. All components of a great stay. Truthfully maybe this place doesn't deserve five stars. The only upside to renting the most expensive room for a night, was how absolutely comedically awful the room itself was. We got a good laugh from it.
