Very bare-bones, basic motel. The main selling point is the location--location, location. The room amenities are minimal: TV, mini fridge, and a Keurig. No blow dryer or other standard hotel extras, so come prepared. The sliding glass door opens directly to the beach walkway, meaning anyone staying at the motel can walk right past your room. This got annoying, especially since my dog barks at every little sound. People would regularly walk by and even look into the room. While it's not the motel's fault that some guests lack basic etiquette, a divider or barrier would go a long way in giving guests a bit more privacy. Top notch hospitality! Apologies for the delay--this review's long overdue. We stopped here during the Jimmy Carter holiday weekend this year, completely unplanned and super stressed. We weren't even planning to stay in Crescent City, but this place ended up being a total surprise in the best way. We were originally going to book online for $100, but walked in and got a room for under $60. The room was clean, warm, and exactly what we needed. We weren't expecting anything fancy--just something comfortable--and it delivered. We felt totally safe and relaxed there. Yeah, the walls are thin, but our neighbors were pleasant and respectful, and the owners/staff were super chill and kind. They even gave us the option of an ocean view or a "garden" view (which is just the parking lot). We assumed the ocean view would be way more expensive, but it was only a $5 difference. When we stepped outside, the woman at the desk came out and asked, "Do you want the ocean view?" And we were like, "Hell yes." She set it up without hesitation. Just incredibly nice people--professional, warm, and no BS. We ended up with this beautiful view of the ocean. We didn't even bother turning on the TV--why would we, when we could sit there and watch the sunset? It was stunning. This place turned what was a rough, unplanned detour into something magical. If we're ever back in Crescent City, this is where we'll stay. No question. Yes, it's a motel, but don't let that fool you. We've stayed at places like the Hilton that didn't leave half the impression this one did. This place is a gem--affordable, no-frills, but genuinely great. In short, it is a dump-by-the-sea; a real train wreck. Giving it 2 stars instead of one due to it's location on the beach which is a good, but the ONLY benefit of staying here. If it were located anywhere else besides on the beach this place would not still be in business. So many things to advise you of, but here are few of the highlights (lowlights): 1) The bathroom mirror is desilvering and has been for years. See the attached 2 photographs. So bad, it gives a creepy, haunted feel. 2) The toilet is the tiny, kiddie size. About 11" in height, adults sit with their knees up in their chest and the toilet bowl opening itself is so small it's like you're doing your business in a bucket. 3) Carpeting is matted and odorous. 4) The water pressure on a scale of 1 to 10 is a minus 5. You never really get the shampoo out of your hair or soap off your body. Bring a plastic cup to fill with water and pour it over your head for better results. 5) Too many warning signs thumbtacked / glued to the walls. See the attached photographs. Is it really necessary still to be warned about flushing tampons and trash in a toilet . . . by posting them on the walls? 6) The entire room's decor is dated, worn and just needs a complete gutting and updating. But if you're the only game in town (place on the beach), I guess why bother. We stayed in a room facing the ocean. If you decide to stay here, maximize your time on the beach (outside of your room) to get the best value. Learn from me and just stay out of it as much as you can. read more

Yes you are on the beach here which is the only reason it is getting 2 stars. If this place had been $40-50 cheaper a night I would have added a star or so. But for almost $200, this run down no amenity motel is way overpriced. There are other hotels that are close enough to the beach to warrant your business. First, when you book you choose a room. I chose one that I could see would be quieter so I wouldn't hear Hwy101 noise. Well they moved me to #2 instead of the one I chose and I heard highway noise all night. Your room opens on the ocean side to a long walk way so you have people walking by your room and hanging outside your room at all hours so you have to keep your curtains drawn often. I can get over that but at times it was annoying. Just now as I was writing this the guy from next door peered right into my room as he went into his from the beach. The hotel itself is beyond worn down. Streaks from age on the sliding door mar the view, rust on the windows, can't figure out why they bother with carpeting in the rooms when it is all one floor and there is sand and dirt outside. The furniture is chipped as are the doors Absolutely no amenities, not even a hair dryer. I was expecting funky and dated but this feels one or two steps beyond that esp for the price. If you use more then 3 keurig cups in your room they charge you $1 apiece. continental breakfast offered is a package of oatmeal, a apple or banana and coffee or tea. The shower took 2 of us to figure out. The TV didn't work well so had to call front desk. The personnel have no personality. Not even really a greeting when I arrived. I travel a lot. I am not a stranger to odd hotels and such. I expected this to be a bit rundown. We are on a road trip so have stayed at roadside hotels but for the price this one really irritated me. read more

Did not have the best experience here. The front ladies were nice and checked us in easily. The room was where we had the problems. The walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors literally just walking. Bathrooms were very small. I didn't realize that the patio was connected with all the other rooms so there was no privacy. We were on the far side so we had to pass by everyone's rooms to get to the beach and I tried not to make eye contact because people had their curtains wide open. The surrounding area was also not what I expected. Everything closed at 7pm so when trying to get dinner after a long drive the options were non existent. For the price I thought it would be a lot different but it was not worth it. We ended up leaving early and finding a new place after feeling too uncomfortable to stay. read more

For years I have driven by this motel right on the beach in Crescent City. Finally I booked a night on a trip I was taking. I have mobility issues, but Connie (on duty) was SO helpful the entire time. My room was right on the beach, with porch chairs to just sit and breathe the air. My room was spotlessly clean and I felt most comfortable. The lovely people next door noticed I was traveling solo and invited me to play cards with them! How kind is that? Very! I can see coming here for a longer stay to enjoy the ocean and look for sand dollars. read more

This is a very basic motel room, with very basic amenities. Clean. I could have really used a fridge to store food/drink we had been carrying around on our trip. Towels looked fresh and new. This place was perfect...Extra large and long clean ( very clean ) room with 2 comfy queen beds and extra fluffy pillows..5 on each bed!!! Slept like a dream! Sliding glass door that opens up on a lovely deck with a panoramic view of the ocean. And easy beach access. Plush bath towels and ample supplies for the bathroom. Clean carpet and not a cobweb or speck of dust to be found-excellent housekeeping! Front desk help-very nice and accomidating. Coffee and bottled water provided in the room. Breakfast consisted of hot oatmeal and fresh fruit. Very nice for the price-$129.00 per night for 2 adults. Free wi-fi as well. Lots of parking. And we were able to get into our room prior to the quoted check-in time. Will definately stay again!! read more

My Favorite Motel on the Beach near Redwoods!!! Not too cheap but clean and the location near water is not to be beaten. This is now my third return to this wonderful place on the South end of Crescent city. I wish I could share the feeling I have when I'm sitting on the porch and enjoying the wide expanse of the Pacific ocean horizon in front of me. For some infathomable reason, and perhaps exactly because this place is away from Cresecent City itself and has no neighbors, it gives me the peace of mind that I so need when I'm on vacation or going for a short trip. Another great thing about staying in this place: you can travel to the redwoods and see them for free. These trees are not quite as large as the ones a little further into California, but for an Oregonian they are wonderful and within a one day driving distance of the big city. It took me about six hours to get here from Portland. Jedidiah Smith Park is literally 5 minutes' driving from the motel and gives a good impression of what redwood trees can begin to do. The motel has a historical charm that cannot be beat. Great showers, a small but nourishing breakfast (free porridge, coffee, fruit) and the view with crashing waves of a lifetime. The motel was built in 1959 and has been 'in the family' since then. And yes, the rooms have that teensie smell that disappears the moment you open the windows for a couple of seconds to air it. The manager shared with me that even the coverbedding is washed regularly. Sheets are immaculate and towels, too, nice and fat white ones. Do remember that when you go to a PNW beach, the weather is always cooler so dress appropriately. Totally and highly recommend this place. read more

We had a wonderful stay here in March! It was right. On. The. Beach! Loved the easy access to walk the beach with my morning cup of coffee while hubby and kiddos were still asleep. They provide Keurig coffee machine and K-cups for your stay. They had a microwave in the office area available until 9:00 or 9:30. It's not the ritz, very basic and simple furnishings, but it was warm and dry and we slept just fine. They do have a no sand in the drains policy which is understandable, so we just frappes the ice bucket and poured water on our hands and feet outside in the yard area to rinse of the majority of the sand when we were done at the beach. Tv was basic, and they had wifi, but chances are, your not going to stay here for these silly luxuries. You came for the beach and they have it! Would gladly stay here with my family again if given the opportunity. read more

Outside: It doesn't look like much from the road but the view is to die for. Very beautiful and easy access to the beach. Not a place to swim but nice beach walks. We seen people clamming. Not very crowded, maybe because of the weather but totally enjoyed it for 2 days. We had a room on the beach and never heard traffic because of the waves. Inside: Nothing much to look at but it was clean. No fridge and microwave. If I knew that I would have rented elsewhere because I have a habit of leftovers and warming it for the next day. Windows need to be closed at night because of the sea breeze entering. Our bathroom was always wet after a hot shower, counters, toilet seat, floors! There are no vents in the bathroom and my makeup, travel bottles, jewelry, anything you leave out got wet. Heater was great. read more

Five star view: ask for ocean view. Looking at about $150 for the night. Positives: Beautiful view, deck to sit and watch ocean. Walkway straight down to the beach. Clean bed, bath, strong water pressure. Heater built into the wall. Coffee in room. Cold breakfast in the am. An $80 room with a $70 view. Not so positive: The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything. The carpet is stained, anyone walking around on the deck can be heard forever. It was great to be able to lay in bed and watch the ocean, but just not really what I expected for the price. The staff was all great, just not if you need to watch your pennies. read more

WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Third stay over the years while hiking in Redwoods. You have to know it's a small old hotel BUT I would stay here every visit!!!Great location to Redwoods but it's great location period! Literally beach front on a really cool beach so if you run, walk or just like to watch or listen to waves this is your place! There's a deck with chairs outside your room and you can make beach bonfires away from each side of motel. I was disappointed we only stayed two nights! Can't wait to come again. We stayed two nights at this quaint little Motel off the 101 in Crescent City. I think if the rooms reflected the price tag a bit more, I'd 'be tempted to up my rating, but $150 a night for what these rooms are, is just too much. The room featured two queen size beds, a small bathroom and a TV. That was about it. No family style amenities like a fridge, microwave or coffee maker. Not a complete deal breaker, but the dated feel and lack of common items made the stay a bit less than it could have been. Breakfast is offered in the mornings and consisted of instant oatmeal and some fruit offerings. Most of the fruit was a bit sketchy looking so we didn't go that route and chose to eat out instead. Adding $5 to the room and adding some bagels to the breakfast would go a long way to making that experience a bit better in my mind. Now that I am done complaining about the room decor and the lack of breakfast options, can I get to the GREAT part... You are literally 25 feet off the beach. Yes, it is an amazing place to be if you are headed to the Trees of Mystery or another northern California Redwoods destination. It's far enough north that you probably don't want to push too far south into the redwoods, but for the north end stuff, it is great. The sandy beach offers beachcombers a chance to find sand dollars, shells, rocks and even some sea life on the beach at low tide. Again, your patio door opens up on a walkway that takes you steps from the beach itself. Bring your chairs and enjoy the mornings on the sand with a cup of coffee from the lobby. It really can't be beat. I'm giving the Crescent Beach Motel a 3 star rating instead of 4 because of the aged feel of the rooms and the lack of amenities. I would consider giving it back if the rooms were more in the $100 a night range instead of the $150 a night range, but they have to make some money somewhere. I'd recommend a stay here for single nighters if you are doing a family trip, or a short stay for beach lovers that want to experience Crescent City's night life and restaurants. This motel is right on the outskirts of crescent city. Prices aren't super expensive but not super cheap. Our stay was 91$ a night. The rooms are small but comfortable. Ours came with a queen, desk, and a small table with two chairs. Also included is a coffee maker, blow dryer, tv, and small closet. Breakfast is free, however it's only coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and fresh fruit. The snack room is open from 6:30am until 9:45pm with free drinks and newspapers. In the lobby you can purchase sodas, snacks, and small souvenirs to take home. The staff was wonderful, and you can't beat the view here! You go out the sliding glass back door and you're right on the beach! We had no problems thus visit:) thank you for another beautiful visit. See you soon!! read more

LOVED this spot.. it was quite a nice surprise as the beach was right behind the building. When you pull in off the highway there is no way you would think that the ocean was right there near the hotel but it was.
