Came here for the first time with my best friend. This is the rooftop bar on the Marriott which has a special elevator near the entrance of the hotel. It had a chill vibe. There were a good amount of seating but I easily see this spot getting filled up quickly. It was cold outside so the only outdoor seating was under the heated domes (there were 2). The waitstaff were great and the drinks were reasonable (on par with most places). Would love to come back when it's warmer to sit outside. read more

This place is definitely hyped up quite a bit. The view is cute for the Silver Spring area but overall, this is not a place I would recommend. Their food menu is extremely limited and the few items you can get are not very good. We got the cheese plate and something else and neither was wonderful. Service is also a little bit slow if you sit anywhere other than the bar. They do not have sangria, which I do find interesting. However, they have Barbancourt, which is not super common for this area. I can appreciate that. They played a nice little mix of music on a Saturday night, so that was cute. Parking in the garage is nearby. Can be a little pricey, but it's relatively accessible. Just remember where you parked. I ordered a drink that the server said was as close to sangria as they have. It tasted like syrup and medicine. Then, I just ordered vodka cranberries after that. I think the prices are average for this type of establishment, but I would not go out of my way to go here again. This is a fun spot to enjoy a pre-dinner drink/app or hang on a rooftop on a warm afternoon. The bar service is incredible, the menu is unique and rotating, and there's never been a line or trouble finding a seat or getting served. I look forward to coming here with our of towers when they stay at the hotel, and it's perfect walking distance to so many other dinner restaurants. The food/apps are also pretty good. Located in the Marriott on the top floor you exit the elevator and typically you'll see a doorman. Sometimes there are waits but I've never actually had to wait, larger parties seem to have to hang out before they will let you in. Drink prices are your normal standard prices. As much as I love this place, I can't overlook the behavior of one of their employees. I have been a regular customer since they first opened, and overall, I've had great experiences. However, my opinion changed when they hired an employee with a poor attitude (and I'm not the only one who has noticed this). I didn't want to mention a previous bad experience, thinking it was a one-time issue. A few months ago, I invited some friends, many of whom had never been there before, because I genuinely enjoyed the place. Unfortunately, they had a negative experience, as one of the bartenders was very rude to them for no reason. I asked another bartender to address it, but let it go without escalating to management. A few weeks ago, some of my friends, who also go there, encountered the same employee, and he asked them - Where's your f****ng Russian b**ch friend? Well, I'm not Russian, but thank you for pointing out my accent, and it's completely inappropriate to refer to any customer in that manner. Located on top of the newish Bethesda Marriott, it's the perfect place to hang out at after dining at Woodmont Grill or even Black's which are just a few steps away! If you're not starving, Hip Flask offers a nice appetizer menu that will fill your belly when a full meal isn't needed. Of course you want to do a rooftop for the outside vide but if it's a litrle too warm or maybe too cold, Hip offers ample inside seating as well. This was my first time visiting HIL and I will say I love the parking garage directly across the street. The ambience once you get off of the elevator is amazing. I will say, the view on the rooftop is best as the sun is setting and or at night time as a surrounding areas are mainly parking garages and or apartment complexes. The food was delicious. Very cute rooftop in the mix of the new Marriott headquarters in downtown Bethesda. It's winter so the outside area is a little off limits. There were 2 igloos outside though --perhaps you can't tent them out or it's first come, first serve. Drinks were absolutely delicious! Pricier end at $15-20 per drink. We were looking for a rooftop bar to hang out at and decided to venture to Bethesda. The weather had other plans as it started raining on our route out that way, but honestly rainy weather doesn't ruin the experience at Hip Flask. The windows are wide so you can still see the view on a cloudy day and there are more than enough chairs to get a good seat. It is first come first serve so I imagine later in the evening might be more of a challenge. They do not have entrees, more small plate appetizers, so don't go too hungry or have plans for after some drinks. Their cocktails were so fun and definitely strong. I went on a Thursday evening with a group of 8 for an igloo reservation, and the host who grants entry to the rooftop was very dismissive. He immediately told me there's a wait, and I can scan a QR code because of capacity. I asked for further clarification, and he persisted to tell me I won't be able to go up. Eric, one of the managers, saw us waiting and offered for us to sit in their igloo outside. The igloo felt very cozy with the small heater, blankets, and multiple places to sit. The actual bar was also beautiful and the ambiance here was perfect We got around 2 drinks each and honestly every single drink was impressive. I went on a Tuesday night and was shocked at the service (or rather, lack thereof) in an establishment with cocktails in the $20 range and automatic 20% gratuity. I waited at the bar for 10 minutes while the solo bartender made drinks for another group, but he never acknowledged me or told me that a server would take my order if I sat at a table. Once we were seated, our server barely spoke to us or made eye contact. My group agreed it was the worst service we've experienced in a long time. Service: I have been wanting to visit hip flask for months now and I finally got to visit to celebrate my birthday! We visited on a Friday night around 10pm (I was worried there would be no seats because the rooftop bar doesn't take any reservations). They allowed us to bring in a cake and the service was phenomenal. Alfredo, the manager was super kind enough to check on us and bring us champagne on the house. In all my experience with managers I've never had a manager who went above and beyond like Alfredo! He went above and beyond to even provide us plates and take our pictures after his shift was over. Ambiance: The ambiance of the bar is absolutely gorgeous, the outdoor area is spacious and they actually provided us blankets! It would be nice if they provided fire pits (similar to how urban roast in DC has theirs). I'm not sure if as it gets closer to winter if they provide outdoor heaters, but that would be very much needed! The indoor bar area was pretty dark and provided a intimate aesthetic. The bathroom was beautiful as well! Parking was readily available, there are several garages in the area within walking distance and street parking also available. Parking was free when we arrived at 10pm on a Friday night. Food/drinks: I got a few shots and the Nikiwi, the nikiwi was delicious! My friends got other cocktails on the menu (i forgot which ones they got) but we all pretty much stayed the same thing that the cocktails were not as strong and pretty sweet! We got the crab cakes and wings. Most of my friends didn't like the wings (4/10) and everyone said the crab cakes were pretty good (7/10). Been here twice now and good experiences both times. Lovely vibe on a brisk fall evening and the winter igloos are very cosy. They are booked out pretty far out for the igloos as there is limited space in the rooftop so there is only 2 available at 2 hour intervals. Ok, first the good: Ambience is great! Decent views from the rooftop - on a clear day. If it rains - no cover outside, you have the bar area inside but no real views of the city. Service is good, not great. Sometimes you have to search for your server. The "not-so-good": The drinks are WEAK. I was there for a birthday HH on a a Sat, had about 8 drinks and I was still pretty sober. Drinks are like water - but prices like gold - about $25 each!!! So 2 drinks I could have bought a bottle and e nice & mellow with a quarter of it - just sayin'. Food was good, but small portions (is it meant to be tapas?) I don't remember (nothing to do with those weak drinks) , but went there twice, and same opinion. Go for the view, after U had a few, maybe to cap the night off, but bring your wallet! read more
